Here's the skinny on their UES location: I, and my entire extended family have been patrons for 20+ years. Not that it was ever the best ribs in town, but it was convenient to all of us, and it can be a nice, fun and relaxed casual meal. Plus, the prices are appealing and many enjoy their early bird special. All good.
But none of that matters much when the service becomes so atrocious that you can't have a simple relaxed meal. Which has now happened to us for the third and last time. The first 2 were before the pandemic, which I won't go into. But the last was just last week, indicating the problem continues.
Three of us came to dine on an early Sunday evening. The place was moderately crowded, but far from packed. The server came over wearing a mask, however he refused to speak up for anyone to hear him. We could not. Nor was he particularly ingratiating or at all friendly, but...."whatever" on that.
No silverware was on the table, and when the soups came, no soup spoons were delivered. I had to ask other servers for silverware, as our server could not be found. None of them brought any. In fact one waitress, wearing a wait-staff uniform, who was going around with a camera taking photos, actually refused to bring us silverware!!! So I had to get up and find my waiter, and ask him for silverware. When he finally brought them, he only brought TWO settings for a table with THREE people. And then he quickly ran off without even asking if anything else is needed.
Once again, I had to get up, go searching for this loser, and I said: "Common man, what's going on? You only brought us 2 settings of silverware for 3 people? Can I get another setting?" He turns and says "No, you can't, and I refuse to serve you after you speak to me like that." I go to find the manager, who this waiter is already complaining to. The manager took over our table and brought us the third set of utensils, apologized for the waiter, and tried to explain away his issues, further delaying us from enjoying a quiet family meal. I told him, "Look, he refused to bring everyone at this table silverware. What more needs to be said?" He agreed and left.
Upon him bringing the check, I asked if that waiter still gets the tip, and was told that he does. So I told the manager I would not be adding any gratuity as none was earned. He got upset and said the waiter makes his money via tips. I replied that no, he makes his money by accommodating patrons needs. Which he didn't even attempt to do.
Until Dallas BBQ cares enough to filter out their truly horrible wait-staffers (no shade against the good ones!), my extended family will not be spending our money here. It is no longer any fun, or relaxing.
