Dallas Comedy House Will Reopen With a New Name and Look | Eater Dallas

"An influential alternative-comedy fixture in Deep Ellum for about 11 years, founded in 2009 on Commerce Street, relocated to Main Street in 2015, and moved to the Elm Street location in 2019 following a landlord dispute. Under founder Amanda Austin it helped put alternative comedy on the Dallas map and served as a home stage for many local performers. The venue struggled with reduced capacity, curfews, and intermittent events during the COVID-19 pandemic and ultimately closed on July 2, 2020." - Brittanie Shey

Beloved Austin Barbecue Joint Terry Black’s Will Open in Deep Ellum Soon | Eater Dallas

"I noted that the planned arrival of Terry Black’s prompted backlash over claims that it was ousting the comedy venue from its Deep Ellum home in the 3025 Main Street building; the Terry Black’s team denied those claims, and Dallas Comedy House has since moved to a different locale not too far away." - Tierney Plumb

Terry Black’s Barbecue Bites Back at Bullying Allegations | Eater Dallas

"The Deep Ellum comedy venue's owner, Amanda Austin, says lawyers for the landlord’s parent company sent multiple notices to terminate tenancy by April 16 alleging lease default — claims she calls bogus — and that she was still able to access the building on that date. Her current lease reportedly runs for two more years, and she hopes to negotiate a solution that lets her stay through the lease or at least remain until she can find a new space (a difficult task given the venue's specific usage and location needs after taking a year to secure the current spot); she had not received a lawsuit at the time of reporting." - Alaena Hostetter

Austin Barbecue Restaurant Tries to ‘Bully’ Its Way Into Deep Ellum | Eater Dallas

"A beloved live-comedy venue in Deep Ellum, I've seen Dallas Comedy House build a strong following over three years in its current space (and five years before that where Dot's Hop House is now), staging events such as its 9th annual Dallas Comedy Festival. Owner Amanda Austin says the new landlord introduced themselves not with a call but with a default letter and a termination-of-tenancy notice, despite her having two more years on the lease plus an option to renew; she alleges the buyer has embarked on a four-month campaign to try to create or 'find' some alleged default. During the festival the fire marshal paid an unexpected visit after a complaint, and a subsequent inspection found no violations, yet the buyer wanted Austin out by April 16; their lawyer, Boyd Mouse, reportedly warned that if it wasn’t a 'peaceful and orderly turnover' things could get ugly. I note strong neighborhood support for the venue and Austin’s declaration—“I’m a good tenant. I run a good business... And I will not be bullied.”—which captures why residents are rallying behind it." - Alaena Hostetter

Saw Eric Striffler and Scott Cramer on their first DCOM Tour show. Nice venue, great food. The missing star is for the lack of security. There were security personnel, but nobody checked pockets or used a metal detector. Anyone could have brought a gun in. It was concerning on behalf of the performers. Had a good time, though. Terrible part of town. Got cursed out by a homeless guy in a wheelchair by the hospital.

Google
This is a great comedy club. You can come by yourself or with others. If you come by yourself, they seat you where you don't look like a complete weirdo. The food is good. The people who work there are especially friendly and helpful and the entertainment is great! Although there is no specialized parking and you have to find your own, you can find it if you arrive early enough.

Gladys Martinez

Google
Best comedy place ever! The shows are HILARIOUS, the staff is great and the place Is clean! Really nice patio to hang out, great vibes and the food is really good.

Google
I'll give this place 3 stars. I was at a show the other day and the reason I say 3 is because of what one of the employees was saying about the people performing, the people attending and the merchandise being sold. NOT COOL. However I heard the situation was taken care of but I don't know for sure. Also I did notice one of the posters in the bathroom had a little target drawn on the performers face and then scribbled out. Also not cool. I definitely know the kind of crowd that place generally attracts now. I did run into a lady who said she's the owner also and she did let me have one of the posters on the wall I wanted and I got it signed so that was cool and able to save from a completely negative review. I love the owners response now too... maybe take some accountability for how your staff acted towards the people performing and people there instead of getting mad about a review 🤔. That's cute you say be sober enough to drive too considering I ordered no alcoholic beverages there and I don't drink. So due to your response I'll make it one star now.

Google
This place was literally the best. We went there for our anniversary and it was completely saved due to the improv show 10/10 we laughed so hard my husband really enjoyed the carne fries and the doughnut cheesecake! We will be back. special shoutout to Jackson and the manger for saved our special night.

Google
The local talent they bring in sometimes are on an Elite level of humor. Overall great acts they put on. Love this place. First come first served seating

Google
The show itself was just okay, not bad but nothing memorable. The two-item minimum per ticket was fine and I appreciated that they let me do a double for my drink so I didn’t have to order food on top of it. What really bothered me though, was seeing a $100 hold placed on my card the next day without any heads-up when my actual tab was only $27. It would’ve been nice if they had communicated that upfront because surprises like that leave a bad impression.

Google
We had a good time at the Dallas Comedy Club. We attended the comedy improve show and stayed for the dark comedy show. The improve show definitely shows comedic talent and ability to think on their feet. The dark comedy was entertaining but may not be for everyone. Although, I felt more connected to the comedians in the dark comedy show. Overall, good comedians, service was very good and a decent venue.

Yelp
This place is fun! I try regularly attending the brownout shows which highlight south Asians and other people of color. Comedy is an art form in its own right and the DCC does a great job fostering comedy of ALL type. Kudos to them for bringing us together LIVE instead of behind screens in our beds. There's something to be said about connecting with folks at shows like this. The food itself is decent and the drinks are good too. Their patio is a GREAT spot to get a pre show drink or 4 ;).

Yelp
I am such a sucker for good improv and this place was worth the trip. There are several rooms in the place, I was in the back room for the improv. The cast was pretty entertaining, even if they had next to nothing to work with (absolutely dead crowd). The show was pretty good and I managed to impregnate one of the performers with Charles Xavier's baby (don't ask) So why only three stars? Because the place isn't very dinosaur friendly (I'm getting old) . I don't want to scan anything, I have prescription grade trust issues, I just want to pay cash and buy a ticket (this was a major issue). Also as a non-drinker, I'd rather have a few options other than having to buy two drinks (even when you buy food) Option 1: Buy a round for the performers. I've seen a few places do this and it's always a hit Option 2: Offer a ticket for a higher price that doesn't require the drink minimum All in all though, was a good hour of entertainment

Yelp
Great venue. Dallas Comedy Club has a sleek vibe. Take caution with parking. Dallas comedy club does not have its own parking lot. The service is good, and the club has a wide variety of acts. From beginners to high profile professionals, Dallas Comedy Club enriches the comedy/improv community. I did not get the food here, the main draw are the acts.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
It was my first time at this venue, and I really liked the comedian! The room was small, so get there early if you want a good seat up front. The drinks were a bit pricey but good, and the spinach dip was tasty. I just wish the food and drinks came out a little faster. The staff was friendly and easy to find. They also had a patio where the comedians came out to chat.

Yelp
As the son-in-law, planning the perfect birthday surprise for my mother-in-law, I couldn't have asked for a better experience than we had at the Dallas Comedy Club's improv night. The performers were hilarious, each bringing a unique flair of creativity and wit that kept us laughing throughout the evening. The club's atmosphere was perfectly tuned to the night's vibe, making everyone feel involved and excited. It was my mother-in-law's first comedy show, and she was thrilled beyond words. The staff went above and beyond, giving her a special shout-out at the end of the show that truly made her feel honored on her special day. A huge thank you to Rosie and all the staff at the club, as well as the incredibly talented comedians, for making this birthday one for the history books. It was a night full of laughter that undoubtedly solidified my cherished place in the family. Here's to many more!!

Yelp
Yes, yes, yes! So much fun here. The drinks are excellent, strong but still flavorful. We saw Johnathan Ramos and he was very good. The food was meh but it's not really a restaurant so it makes sense. The mozzarella sticks are egos but the nachos were super plain and just okay. There is a 2 item minimum for each attendee, so be prepared. We will come back to see others. Great experience.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Nice venue. We saw Nick Griffin. His style of comedy was entertaining regardless if you were gen X or a boomer. Drink prices were average for the area. You are seated by the person collecting tickets, so early arrival may put you in the front row.

Yelp
Whether you're out in Deep Ellum for entertainment and/or to BE the entertainment, this theater knows what is up. I've been a proud supporter and performer here in an arrays of ways- stand up, variety show talent, improviser, sketch team member, and even a sketch competition participant (2nd year strong). What a blast! Start to finish, the owners and staff are warm and make you feel welcome and amplified. They offer classes of all kinds and host dope workshops, too. Solid patio outdoors for a group hang and karaoke. They will be celebrating their 3rd year anniversary soon. That's hard to believe as they fit right into the vibrant entertainment scene that is Deep Ellum. I just had the sweet potato fries and they were a banger! Eggrolls, nachos, and mozz sticks are all solid as well. They have Energy drinks and seltzers, as options. Do not sleep on the Jell-o shots. Such a fun after show treat after job well done! Parking can be hit or miss pending availability. There are streets up a block that have meters, lots for base fees and/or free spots closer to residential lofts. Brace yourself for parking time. Walking distance from Cbc and Double Wide. Peep their site for upcoming shows. Hope you've an awesome time!

Yelp
I went on st. Patrick's Day with my best friend, on kind of a last-minute whim. We had dinner at the restaurant Local which is located down the street, and then headed over for the 10 PM showing. On the night that we went, they appeared to have two different showings. One was at 7 PM and the other was at 10 PM. When you walk in, it looks like a regular bar, but the employees will direct you to walk down the hallway to the left to the theater. They have a full bar and bar food but we didn't get any food as we had just eaten before. We were seated in the front row for the show and then our waitress came over to inform us that it was a two drink minimum per person. This is a little frustrating as we had already paid $70 for tickets and didn't know about the minimum. Our waitress also didn't come back to grab our order until the show was halfway over, so I only had time to drink one of my drinks (we could have stayed and finished the drink in the bar area but we wanted to go back home after the show was over) The show consisted of a variety of comics performing for 15 minutes at a time, and the entire entirety of the show was about an hour long. We happened to come on "dark humor" night and it was great. This is a great Dallas date night idea. I recommend it!

Yelp
We had a good overall experience at Dallas Comedy Club. It's not very clear where you should go when you walk in. A few groups of people, including my group, were not sure where the line for our show was. The show room was small. Waitstaff were friendly enough. We ordered beef nachos. We were surprised that the beef was brisket (menu didn't specify and we expected ground beef). There was an error on our oder, but nothing major. There isn't any parking specifically for the venue. You have to find street parking nearby.

Yelp
Amazing hosts, great food. Comedy was top notch. Ample parking is available too. Hosts were friendly enough to show us the room and seats before buying tickets too.

Yelp
Great community of incredibly funny people! I was introduced to DCC by a friend of mine. Since then, I have taken 2 comedy courses and been to a number of shows. Whether you are looking for a supportive means to get into comedy or are just looking for a night of laughs, this is the place to do it. The open mic is also a great forum to test out new jokes and meet other aspiring comedians. If you decide to take their classes, I highly recommend Magen King. She takes so much care in teaching you the in and outs of stand-up & is always there to help guide you through the joke writing process up to your final performance. My class enjoyed her so much that we all moved on to do her Level 2 class.

Yelp
Went to catch a show with mi amor in Sunday night. There was a standup competition with about 10 up and coming comics. Nice little spot with a good selection of drinks. Tickets were cheap too. It does get crowded and it can take a while to get a drink or pay your tab at the bar. That night, I only noticed one guy behind the bar. Definitely needs to have more for that big of a crowd. Other than that a pretty chill location close to deep Ellum.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Looking for some Friday night fun, googled comedy shows near me and here we are! Ticket prices were very reasonable. There was parking nearby for $6, we didn't have to walk too far. The building setup (had to enter through the bar area) and huge outdoor seating area was nice. My husband and I ordered the queso and chips, lemon pepper wings (really good) to eat along with a Bloody Mary (really good) and apple crown. The staff was welcoming, friendly and very laidback. Definitely a casual atmosphere. The comedy show was as advertised, an interactive impromptu skit comedy show. It may cater to a certain demographic which is probably why we only laughed a few times. May need a little more staff diversity. All in all I'd recommend as a spot to hangout, not sure about that comedy show though. Very lively venue!

Yelp
Dallas Comedy has become a home away from home! The service is always so friendly and the shows are always a blast to watch, whether it's sketch, standup, or improv. They have yummy food and drink selections, and the patio is a great place to hang before or after the shows. Also, they have a great selection of classes if you are interested in doing more than just watching comedy. Great establishment - two thumbs up - highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Great and exciting things are happening at DCC. It's already building a reputation for cultivating and fostering impressively funny talent in Dallas like Ralph Barbosa. In it you'll find a main room for stand up as well as a smaller stage for improv. You can order food and drinks during performances or order them at their stylish bar where you can usually meet some of the performers. What sets this place apart is their mission to not only deliver the laughs but also to provide high quality training , entertainment, and extraordinary shared human experiences. Owners Ian & Rosie Caruth have built a inclusive and creative community at DCC. Oh, and try the butter toffee cake!
google avatar

Wilson L.

Yelp
I had a great time checking out the Dallas Comedy Club. The staff were super friendly and the comedians were all so funny. Definitely would come back again for more comedy.

Megan L.

Yelp
Was expecting way more to be honest. Was definitely not 20 dollars worth of comedy, more like 50 cents. I didn't even enjoy my beer especially after a lady was drunk falling on my table. The 2 dollar minimum drinks or food was terrible and was overpriced for the show. Do not recommend.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Went to my first ever comedy show here and it was amazing. The staff was extremely helpful before the show providing info about the show and seating arrangements. Before the show, the bar staff was great and had speedy service. Good drinks and good laughs. Perfect date night spot
google avatar

Cynthia P.

Yelp
Loved this amazing time! All of the comedians were fantastic and my husband and I enjoyed ourselves

Vinny B.

Yelp
This is my favorite spot in Dallas. Cheap tickets to great shows, an awesome staff , and good drinks!! I love the interactive improv!
google avatar

Gisselle L.

Yelp
It was my first time checking this spot out and honestly I should have visited sooner. A friend and I came here for the comedy show. I arrived early and starving and luckily they had food. I got the wings and fries which was enough food for me and definitely shareable. I got the only rum drink listed on their menu and it was tasty. I also had a few of their Jell-O shots during the show and they didn't disappoint. Overall the cost of a ticket is reasonable and so are the costs of food/drinks. The comedians were funny. The seating is intimate so there isn't really a bad seat- maybe the first row (VIP seats) for those that don't like to get picked on by the comedians could be considered uncomfortable seats. I plan to visit again

Yelp
Haven't been out to Deep Ellum in a very long time and came for my bestie birthday to the show. This place is so awesome, the bartenders and managers and so nice. Everyone was nice can't say anything negative or bad about this place. Service was fast for drinks with smiles!! Patio was awesome too. So beautiful and they came no questions and did the heaters for us, since it was cold. Corn hole and other games outside balcony. Will be back one day again!!
google avatar

Jordan J.

Yelp
Highly recommend taking a sketch class or at the very least stopping by to catch any of the many shows they have going on all the time. Fun place with a great staff. Good eats and drinks too!
google avatar

Brendan R.

Yelp
Awesome date night spot!!! Great drinks and beautiful patio :) I couldn't stop laughing!
google avatar

Ariana M.

Yelp
Loved the theater and the comedian was amazing! First time here. Unfortunately the food was terrible...nachos w/ chicken that was overcooked to the max, eggrolls were burnt and chicken wings seemed microwaved. Should have just gotten 8 drinks to cover the minimum.

Jared J.

Yelp
This is the BEST place in DFW to see a show, take a class, and have a beer. The new items on the food menu are a must also. The bartenders and servers are super friendly.

Hannah H.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The staff are so helpful and welcoming, and there are so many different shows to see! I come here all the time and love the classes too. Wow!!

Kristina D.

Yelp
LISTEN, definitely my favorite place to be for comedy, a nice bar, and welcoming people. You literally always have a good time here! THEY JUST REDID THEIR MAIN STAGE and it looks amazing, I can't believe they have somewhere this nice in Deep Ellum. Their bar is clean and nice, and people are kind (and funny, duh).

Kevin R.

Yelp
This place has potential, but needs to get organized on some things. The timing for the show was significantly delayed, but it's comedy, so punctuality isn't always expected. Got a few drinks at the bar, then waited in line to sit. When they opened the doors (40 minutes late), we were seated at a table. The room looks like it could be really good, they just need to finish the construction. Once at the table, servers came to ask if we wanted food or drinks. We already had drinks from the bar. The server pointed out a table ad stating that there was a 2 item per person minimum during the show. We had already paid $25/person for tickets to the show, and there was nothing stating when purchasing the tickets that a minimum service would be required. This was also shared from the stage when the show started. It wasn't enforced at the end, but they need to be cleared on this policy when booking. As for the comedy, there was good and bad. MC was nervous, but alright. I think he was a student at one of their comedy classes. Second act was really good and worth the price of admission. The headliner had potential, but could never get traction. He was so aware of the misses and kept pointing it out making it even more awkward. Several of the tables were talking a lot and were never approached to stop table talk during the acts, leaving patrons to hush other tables. Eventually the most disruptive tables left during the headliner, which was probably the highlight moment of his act. Comedy doesn't always hit, that's part of it. We would come back to try it again, but we hope they take some time to get more professional and organized on service, policies and creating a good vibe.

Logan H.

Yelp
This place is great. I have seen an improv and stand up show. Lots of seats and space.

Amanda S.

Yelp
I started taking classes when they first opened and haven't stopped since. Everyone is so supportive and helpful and I've made tons of new friends...which is difficult as an adult. I am an introvert who had never performed onstage or taken theater classes, etc., so I've been pushing my comfort zones --growing and learning. The shows are fun and affordable and I recommend supporting your local arts community. They also have food/drinks! And you can rent the space for events and parties as well as hiring instructors for workshops, and much more! Just ask! :) SO FUN!

Zandri B.

Yelp
A must go if you're visiting or need a last minute entertainment idea. Cheap or free events that are 100% worth it! There is a two item minimum for the bar/grill but it is easily met. Came for one show and ended up staying for all three that night I had so much fun!

Jessica H.

Yelp
Dallas' hottest club is DCC! This place has everything! Mini corndogs and frozen cherry limeade. A really nice dude who checks your tickets at the door. Karaoke on Thursdays. Improv teams. What's that? It's when they make up a show based on a word you say. A patio where you can write on the tables with chalk. Funny touring comics. Fully local comics. Funny touring local comics. Servers who serve you during the show. Southwest egg rolls. Clean bathrooms with warm water when you wash your hands. Seriously, this place is so fun! It's at the quieter end of Deep Ellum and is the ultimate hangout spot. When the weather is nice it's the perfect place to sit on the patio with friends--or make new friends! Everyone who works there is so nice and a lot of their regular performers are super cool. They have shows with tickets at different price points so there's always something to see. Most underrated spot in Dallas!
google avatar

Lincoln G.

Yelp
I love love love this place. Great to come wind down and enjoy some live comedy . I personally enjoy the open mics but they have show options for literally everything and everyone. The open mic is free and most tickets are very very affordable! Occasionally they'll require a purchase of 2 items which I don't mind at all since it was already free in the first place. Very nice bar, atmosphere, large patio, free parking area behind back which is awesome considering this is located near one of the busiest parts of Dallas. For all the times I've been, the Crowd is always respectful of the comics. Im so glad that dallas has a place like this. It's literally one of my favorite places to go.
google avatar

Sean D.

Yelp
If you're looking for laughs then definitely go here. Went for our first time and it didn't disappoint. Having said that I guess it's all up to the comic and if you find them funny or not but we enjoyed ourselves. There is a two drink minimum but they are averaged priced so you're not being overcharged. It may include non alcoholic beverages as well but don't take my word on that. Staff was very helpful and if you need to communicate via email (our show was moved due to a winter storm a couple of months back) they respond very quickly. Oh and they have their own bar with outdoor seating area and some food if you want to get there early and just take your time.

Marisa G.

Yelp
Venue is nice but they served me a shot in a cracked glass! I asked for a new glass and they ignored my request. This is a health department violation!

Madison H.

Yelp
It takes a lot for me to leave a bad review but I didn't even crack a smile this place was so unamusing. Apparently the management doesn't let the comedians be themselves and say what they want to in their jokes. Maybe if they'd let them tell their own jokes it would be entertaining... sadly I didn't even let out a giggle. If I could give 0 stars I would. Definitely saw potential but this business does not let comics perform their full potential, so sad. If the management sees this please let the performers be themselves free range, it's 2022 get it together.

Erica G.

Yelp
This place rules. Going to stand-up or interactive improv shows is a great way to set the tone before/after going to concerts in the area, and there's a ton of parking available on Elm/Main that sits outside of the street barricades on weekends, making it easy to get in/out at any time of night. Additionally, they offer improv, standup, and sketch classes, which are applicable to everyone wanting to improve their presentation skills, and not just those interested in performing (although it's great for that, too). Maximum stars!

Carvon C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere the staff are very nice and the improv shows are hilarious. The food was good and I had an amazing time. I would recommend this place if yoh haven't been.

Yelp
Went to the club last night. We had so much fun! The stand up comedian, Ian Bagg, was hilarious! Food was delicious! We ate the southwestern egg rolls and the I&R stir fry. Both were excellent. Going back again tonight. Highly recommend!

Debra H.

Yelp
Great food and great fun! Had a lot of laughs!service was excellent too. I'll go back for sure!

Steven H.

Yelp
For a comedy club, it doesn't seem like this place can take a joke. A lot of negative energy and unhappy workers. Very disappointed with my visit.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
We love the family friendly comedy shows on Sunday. Great ticket prices and my kids loved being apart of the show. The team did a fantastic job working with the younger audience. Also, the venue is great and the food was good. We will be back!
google avatar

Frank J.

Yelp
I attended the date night improv and had my expectations exceeded. The comedians were hilarious and the acting was super smooth. I haven't laughed that hard ever at a local comedy show but I'd for sure recommend this location to anyone looking for a good laugh. The food and drinks are also not super expensive and there was no drink requirement which was very nice and surprising. The jokes were also much more thoughtful and funny rather than simply resorting to racism to get some cheap laughs (I'm looking at you Lol Comedy)
google avatar

Kaylee N.

Yelp
My first time here and our group really enjoyed it! The place is spacious, has decent food and drinks and is similar to Alamo Drafthouse in the way you order. The show was funny, part improv part sketch. There's a parking lot nearby for $10 or parking meter is available as well.
google avatar

Lyn J.

Yelp
I enjoyed my time here. It is actually the first place I've been to in Downtown Dallas since moving to Texas. The building is spacious inside with many different rooms holding different events. Stand up open mic in one (free admission on Tues when I went), improvisation in another, classes, etc. They have a bar and a nice outdoor patio just off of it. Nice fun photos that adorn the halls as you walk down the aisles, and the staff are uber friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to go here again for an evening out.

Will S.

Yelp
If the lady upfront sees you adding to the comedy show, cheering or evening being apart of she will kick you out. I had multiple comedians talking about me( in a good way ) and she kicks me out out for disrupting the show. Like huh its a comedic show ?

Yelp
I couldn't have imagined a better place than DCH to be in my life. If you're looking for a great night out, with delicious food (it's not bar food - it's actually really great food) DCH is your place. If you want to be a part of the comedy community, DCH is your place. If you want a place to sit on a patio and have a beer or a burger or fries, DCH is your place.
