Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings - Austin - The Infatuation

"Taking over the former Chosun Galbi space in Highland, Dam-A is a Korean restaurant that offers all-you-can-eat KBBQ, hot pot, and small plates for $36 at dinner (less for kids and during lunch). It’s also one of the few spots where you can cook your own meats until the wee hours of the morning (it’s open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays)." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

The 6 Best Korean BBQ Restaurants In Austin

"Dam-A is an all-you-can-eat hot pot and Korean BBQ spot in the Highland shopping center where every table comes equipped with a communal grill and individual hot pots. Meats and vegetables are self-serve, and while the selection and quality don’t quite match specialized hot pot or BBQ restaurants, the fun of trying to manage both at once makes it worth a visit. If you’re seeking the best Korean BBQ in town, you can get a better experience at one of the other spots on this list. But if you don’t want to choose between grilling and boiling your meat, Dam-A gets the job done." - nicolai mccrary

Dam-A Korean Hot Pot & BBQ - Review - Highland - Austin - The Infatuation

"Dam-A is a decent all-you-can-eat hot pot and Korean BBQ twofer in the Highland shopping center. It’s conveniently located next to the Galaxy movie theater, making it well-equipped for a meal of endless meats before or after stuffing yourself with a bottomless bucket of popcorn. The biggest draw here is that every table comes with a communal grill and individual hot pots, so you don’t have to choose one or the other—you can sear marinated slabs of bulgogi and dunk slices of pork jowl into spicy Sichuan broth. Meats and vegetables are self-serve, and while the selection and quality don’t quite match specialized hot pot or BBQ spots, the fun of trying to manage both at once makes it worth a visit. If you're craving the best of either format, other places do them better. But for a filling, interactive meal—or a pre-movie bite—Dam-A gets the job done. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary

Google
This is a very neat place. We enjoyed our meal here. They have a lot of meat selections and vegetables too. They offer a lot of foods from hotpot, samgyupsal, and some cooked food. These staff are nice and helpful. I'd say the hotpot can use a little more flavor, but overall, it's really good. The place is clean, which makes it enjoyable to eat. Lastly, they have desserts! That's really great!

Google
Excellent food and service, the best Korean BBQ and hot pot combo restaurant ever. Love the concept of getting your own meat to grill and the meat for hot pot. I like this concept over ordering from the menu as it cuts time and allows you to manage how much you can eat without being wasteful. Another plus is that they have a make yourself spring roll station.

Google
The food was delicious, the setting and spread were great. But that alone doesn’t define our experience at DAM-A and how respectful and helpful their staff really were. During our trip to DAM-A the staff were extremely friendly and attentive, the manager even coming over and encouraging us to try a special sauce they made in house (which was delicious). What we didn’t expect though, was for the power to go out in the restaurant. When the lights go out, sometimes the show stops, yet somehow it didn’t here. If anything the situation made the somehow great service even better. The waiters went into overdrive handling grumpy customers and concerned patrons. Not for a second in all the chaos of the situation did we feel unattended to or as a second thought. The meat was delicious, specifically their bulgogi. The sides were delicious and the spring roll station was a nice touch. We enjoyed how unique and balanced the options were as well as the dual KBBQ and hot pot dynamic there was. If you ever find yourself looking to support a small business that truly, and I mean TRULY, cares about its customers, then please stop by DAM-A. You won’t be disappointed.

Very delicious self-serving BBQ & Hotpot at a reasonable price! The staff was very nice and the restaurant is very cozy and cute. The meats and seafood selections are soooo good!

Really enjoyed our lunch here. Nice twist with Korean BBQ paired with hot pot. Good variety of ingredients, the Tonkatsu was very flavorful. Everything looked clean and well stocked. Waitress was lovely. Excited to have another AYCE hot pot place to visit in Austin!

Google
We enjoyed our experience, it’s nice you can just go get the meats without ordering Other locations you will have to wait and order They also have a lot of selection Definitely recommended will come back

Google
I’ve always loved the coziness of this restaurant. The renovation and reboot to AYCE hot pot and kbbq is fantastic. The food is so nicely laid out in the shelves. The prawns were my favorite for hot pot. The spicy pork was my favorite for kbbq. I love that they have a selection of pre-cooked food as well to snack on when you’re waiting for your broth to arrive or the grill to heat up. Or, if you need a break from cooking, you can nibble on some fried chicken. I would’ve taken more food photos, but I was hungry and happy eating.

A girlfriend and I went to DAM-A for dinner the other evening for a Hot Pot and BBQ experience. It was delightful! Here’s my experience: Walk-in/reservation: we walked-in and the wait time was about 35 minutes. It was very busy so lesson learned: definitely make a reservation! Service: while most AYCE restaurants are self-serve, servers still come around to facilitate the hot pots and bbq, ask if you need anything, how the food is, etc. Our server was wonderful! She came by regularly to check on us so we didn’t feel forgotten! Food: the food was amazing! So how it works: this is a buffet style restaurant. The table has a built-in bbq and element. First you select the broth for your hot pot with your server, then you walk up to the buffet and select the protein/veggies/carbs you want to cook/bbq. They have a variety of meats, poultry and seafood to choose from. They also have cooked rice and pasta if you want to add carbs to your meal. One thing was it wasn’t clear which dumplings and rolls were pork, so my feedback is just better labeling would be nice. We don’t eat pork. Otherwise the raw protein was labeled. Desserts are at the buffet too, but not a wide variety. They also have an ice cream machine (vanilla and chocolate). The coffee was good, although it would be nice if they had to-go cups. Accessibility: there’s plenty of parking! All in all, it was a great experience! I would definitely go back there!

Yelp
The only place in Austin that has Galbi Jim! The flavor of the dish was excellent. The meat fell right off the bones, so tender. Rice cakes were chewy and soft, mixed perfectly with the melted mozzarella cheese. I know they are changing their menu soon and I hope they don't take this off the menu! As for the corn cheese, it was a bit sour...not impressed by that at all. Great service, everyone was so kind. Food came out fairly quick. We were seated right away.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Loved the Spicy Pork Bulgogi and you get a little of sides with entrees. Every one of them was amazing. Great service too!!

Yelp
This definitely has to be my all time favorite Korean bbq spot. I'm a big Korean food lover, so this says a lot! It's not an all you can eat experience so you do have to order at least two items from the bbq menu to get to experience the grill at your table thing. Quality is great, their kimchi soup is to die for. Love this place! Love the plants the have by the entrance too!
google avatar

Yelp
I have been coming to this place consistently for years, and often to get their galbi jim, a generously portioned dish, plenty for 2 and affordable. Service was always very friendly and the place is always clean and welcoming. Too bad however that Chosun will be closing soon, and will reopen as a different Korean grill concept in 2025. Yes, it probably needed an update (I hope they improve security in the parking lot, add more lights and cameras, this is not the best area), but I worry the new experience is going to be fancier and pricier. We will see, but it is often the trend in Austin these days.

Yelp
Chosun was pretty good. I usually get the dolsot bibimbap, and I haven't been in a while, but the restaurant changed the bowl. It's wider and flatter now, and personally, it was a bit harder to mix everything. Also, my friend ordered the yellow croaker, but it didn't come out until 10-15 minutes after most of our food arrived. By that time, my friend ate most of his rice with his stew, so I deducted a star because of service and the platter change. The servers were great though, and the restaurant was clean and spacious, which is always appreciated!

Yelp
This place is so underrated! We ordered Cold Noodle Mul-Naengmyeoun and Dolsot. We got so many complimentary side dishes called banchan! It felt like our own mini appetizer buffet. I have been going around to try different Korean restaurants but this place is still the OG in my book. The service is friendly and prompt! John was our server and he was amazing. The ambiance is nice and clean. I appreciated the warm and cozy decor of this restaurant. We will continue to come back here! I only wish it was closer to my house.

Yelp
I went here with some friends on an early Sunday afternoon. The staff were super friendly and attentive. There were four of us so we split three dishes: Ahgujiim - I've never tried this before and it wasn't terrible. I'm not the biggest fan of bean sprouts so I wouldn't get this again. Flavor wise it was probably the best thing I ate. Dolsot bibimbap - this had so much promise but it didn't deliver. The flavors were not there for this one. The rice was kinda crispy but there wasn't a lot of it and the bulgogi was just okay. Kimchi Jeon - this was really good. I did enjoy it a lot, but I wished they gave us dipping sauce. The side dishes that i tried lacked flavor as well. Cucumber kimchi (which is my go to side dish) was pretty bland.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the food here. We opted to only get one meat selection and I of course had to get the rice noodle soup which was very spicy but delicious and addictive. I don't think you need to get a set course to really feel filled up. We got plenty of food and it was very fun. We didn't get rushed and they had a lot of accompaniments. Everything was really fresh and delicious and we even had to box stuff up to go. I would definitely come back here with the kids and try it a few other things like their egg souffle which looked really good. This is a location that I would never have known about had I not been down the road at easy tiger so I'm glad to see something in the area that is somewhat affordable and really delicious.
google avatar

Tina D.

Yelp
Their sides here are so delicious! They have so many sides and they are more delicious than other Korean restaurants side dishes. I loved their seaweed, potato, and radishes the most. I got their seafood soft tofu soup. There wasn't as much seafood in there as I would had like, but the flavor of it was good. I think their bi bim bop is a better deal and is still good.
google avatar

Steven C.

Yelp
Although the flavor is good, the portion size is a joke based on the high price they charge. 4 slices of seafood pancake costs almost $20...you can get twice the food at Hmart food court for a few bucks less and tastes equally as good. The portion size for their side dish is even worse and they charge $1.5 per dish per refill after 1 free refill. And to get a refill you'll have to be prepared to get a dirty look from the server...it's like they despite their patrons for asking for refills...that's a big NO NO! They are getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food was decent in terms of flavors. Oh and they NEED to get some ventilation installed, that place is smoky when ppl start grilling.

Michelle A.

Yelp
As a lonestar Korean American in Austin, I sometimes long for authentic Korean food- not fusion, not street/bar fried food. I hadn't been to Chosun in a while, but it seems like they changed owners or something bc the quality of the food and banchan was vastly improved from what I remember. They gave numerous banchans that were fresh and delicious, I ate them all up! I got the mul naengmyun, which was refreshing and delicious as well. This will be my go to Korean spot in Austin from now on!
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
The food is always delicious, and last night was no exception. I had a bowl of soup called Yuki Jang. It is a spicy beef soup. I wasn't able to eat all of the soup, but I ate all the ingredients! It was very good and a nice change of food for me. The service has improved since my last visit. The servers were nice. Additionally, the wait time was very minimal. In fact, after ordering, I had my food around 10 minutes. The price is a little expensive, but overall worth it. Stop by Chosen Galbi and try it yourself. I don't think you will be disappointed with the food!

Yelp
One of the few Korean restaurants in Austin, my Korean friends all said it was one of the pricier places to go for KBBQ, one even mentioned he would take his parents there, which I assume they would approve of. I've been to Chosun twice in the last year. The first time, I got the soondubu jjigae (soft tofu soup), this was pretty pricey compared to the ones I've had anywhere else. They also charged extra for a second bowl of rice, which were smaller portioned than other places. Everyone at the table split the galbi jjim, which came off as really sweet and with many fatty pieces. I went to Chosun this past weekend with friends. This time I opted for the yukgaejang. The stew was pretty good, price-wise it's a little less drastic than the difference I noticed for soondubu jjigae. They give an okay amount of banchan for the table. They did offer to refill but I'm not sure if we would've been charged it, since the extra charge was mentioned in the menu. Overall, I felt that the value is not quite there, and the extra charge for rice, and possible banchan, almost feels taboo. Servers are nice though!

Yelp
My dad cooks so 5 stars cause you know he works really hard leaves at 9am comes back at10pm

Yelp
Came here on a Friday for lunch. Looking at the menu, I thought the bento box is pretty pricey. They're in $18-19 range I believe. I ordered the Dwaeji Bulgogi bento box. It came with a good mix of selections. I was wishing that I'd get some banchan, but seems that they don't give it with lunch specials. I think the bento box was just ok, but service is fast and friendly!

Yelp
This place was yummy! My sister was craving some Korean yum Mines's & decided to come here for lunch on a Wednesday evening. It was not busy! We were seated right away. Unfortunately, the servers did not really know their own menu, which was a bummer. One of the main questions was if the plates were "shareable" and they said no, but once we received our food, we realized we had way too much food! It was delicious, but it was just too much for 2 girls. - Price: on the pricey side - Food: delish!! - Parking: easy/not hard

Yelp
One of the best Korean places in Austin. The menu is standard issue here. There is nothing here you can't get at 39 other places in town. What is at issue is the quality of the raw ingredients and the quality of the execution. A recent all-appetizers meal was truly all-star. Seafood pancake - a ho-hum dish in most places - positively sparkled. The trick? All sorts of exotic shellfish - including lots of the strange smaller shellfish that shows up in Korean seafood markets that Anglos almost never buy. And these were fresh and full of taste. But even the stuff we DO buy like the squid was of a higher order. The six or seven nuggets of squid in my pancake was some of the best squid I have had in Austin in years. (Standard practice in a Korean seafood pancake: you never get more than six or seven nuggets of anything - but there are a lot of different nugget types.) Mandoo (Dumplings) were also surprisingly good. Dirty little secret: A lot of the dumplings you get in Asian restaurants in the US come straight out of a freezer bag. There are a million commercial frozen dumpling vendors out there. (I think HMart sells stuff from nearly all of them.) Commercial dumplings vary from really excellent to tasteless lumps of stuff. Well either Chosun Galbi chooses an excellent vendor for their dumplings or the dumplings are homemade. Either way the dumplings were excellent and absolutely packed with flavor - even steamed which is usually a flavor-killing way to get your dumplings. * * * If you read the other reviews you see a lot of bad reviews mixed in with enthusiastic reviews like mine. The larger sampling of reviews tells a consistent story. a) Once upon a time, (like around 2016) service used to be really bad. There were also fights with a manager about prices and bills. Those complaints have evaporated since 2020. Probably a certain manager is no longer there. b) People complain a lot about the meat for barbecuing. I don't particularly like Korean BBQ - either for the work involved or for the prices which tend to be sky high. So I don't get excited about K-BBQ even in the marvelous places that people love. But there seems to be widespread agreement that Chosun Galbi is not where you want to do your barbecuing. There are other places in Austin with better base quality meat. However, my own personal opinion is that what makes Korean restaurants great are the meals the cook cooks for you and not the meals you make yourself. The meals that are prepared for you in the Chosun Galbi Kitchen are outstanding. I am sticking with five stars.

Yelp
Lack luster flavors, bad portion sizes, and overpriced for what you get. I ordered the Yook Gae Jang, the broth seemed very watered down, not much beef, lots of leeks. My buddy ordered the Sul Lung Tang, also watered not, broth was not rich. My buddy's wife ordered the Bi Bim Bop, barely gave her any meat - Literally just vegetables and rice. It would have been an extra $4 for meat when they already skimped her on the meat. Slow service on top of the poor quality of food. Auto 20% tip for a group of 6 as well.

Yelp
Fantastic Korean BBQ and a variety of traditional dishes. We had a great evening with very good service, as well.

Yelp
Party of 6 for a birthday: Pros: The food was excellent. This was my 2nd time at a Korean bbq restaurant. It had been so long since the 1st, it might as well had been my 1st time. We started off with the glass noodles, shrimp tempura and fried dumplings. The fried dumplings were my least favorite but still good. I didn't like the noodles inside the dumplings. The glass noodles were great. And the shrimp tempura ? Amazing. I wish it came with more shrimp but I did like the pieces of vegetables that came fried in the same batter as the shrimp. Our main courses, I was nervous about the sides but they were excellent. I can't name everything unfortunately. My daughter loved the kimchi. We ordered the short ribs boneless, 2 orders of the brisket and the beef bulgogi. I'd not order the brisket again. It was flavorless. The other meats...amazingly seasoned. The restaurants wasn't busy at all. 4pm on a Sunday. CONS: Ok so there were a lot of empty dirty tables! I came in 1st with the rest of our table behind me about 10 minutes. The waitress that sat us seemed really hesitant and nervous about sitting 6 people. We sat comfortably in the booth so I'm not sure what she was concerned about. We were super excited and celebrating a birthday. Our waitress didn't seem the bit interested in helping us navigate the menu so we were on our own. That was a little disappointing. We were served by a lot of different people. They were working as a team. They just seemed preoccupied while bringing out our food. Some time after getting our food cooking on the grill I wanted soy sauce. No one had come by for quite some time. I got up and stood in the front hoping to catch someone and ask. After a few minutes, a gentleman walked out of a room adjacent to the hostess stand. The room was full of staff cooking their own feast , laughing and having a good time. That room must be sound proof because I had no idea they were in there until the door opened. I asked and got the soy sauce I needed. Everyone deserves to eat in peace but they did that at the expense of paying customers. We did use the button at our table for service. It did light up when we pressed it but no one responded to it. We sat eating the ice at the bottom of our empty cups waiting for the check for what seemed like forever. I hate that the service was terrible because the food was really good. We did enjoy ourselves because of the food alone. Overall the food was 4.5/5. Service 2/5
google avatar

Darian C.

Yelp
Their seafood pancake had a variety of seafood in it and green onions, it was crispy but would have preferred it if it was a bit crispier (It was still good). Their tofu soup was great and I ordered it with an egg (which was extra) and it was my favorite from this restaurant. Their Banchan was ok and they did not give much. The service was alright. They had a lot of customers at the time so that was understandable but sometimes when we would ring the bell they would take a long time to come and we would have to get up and try to get someone's attention.

Yelp
It's our go to Korean place in Austin. We always go to chosun in LA and hit up Korea town in NYC. This is in par with those. We always get 2 of the top grade Galbi (Kalbi), the seafood pancake and 2 Japchi's. That's a perfect order for family of 4.

Yelp
Great kbbq option! Solid traditional selections if you want the classic kbbq experience.

Yelp
Awesome service and great food!! Jay was a great guy and thank you for the great amazing service and food! This is a must try!

Gena P.

Yelp
I usually don't like to post bad reviews but I am just BEYOND OFFENDED AND DISAPPOINTED. I have been going here since 2012... The service recently when I went for kbbq was SO RUDE. I ordered multiple servings of galbi, which comes with complimentary banchans, rice, soup, and egg steam... this time, however, they didn't even bring out the egg steam and rice... when I asked if the egg steam and rice were coming out.... The female waitress rudely said to me.. "well, you didn't ask for it." ... I was out of words... I don't understand why she had such a terrible attitude not just that specific instance but overall during that meal. Not to forget, the serving size has decreased over the years. Anyhow, I will NOT BE GOING HERE EVER AGAIN! It is sad that the one of my go-to kbbq places I used to enjoy going to has changed for the WORSE to this extent! SHAMEFUL!
google avatar

Doug T.

Yelp
Chosun is a Korean bbq place where you can bbq your own food but as for us we didn't chose to do that. We chose to have to kitchen prepare our food. I know. It's part of the experience but to each his own. Not much ambiance but it's all about the food here. We really love Korean food. We ordered jab chae which was clear noodle with vegetables. It was really good. We always order jab chae whenever we go to Korean. The jab chae give us the standard of the Korean food. So it's was right on. Also, got the yangnyum galbi which is Korean short ribs. Loved it. It was so good. The Bulgogi was so tender and very tasty. Really enjoyed this too. And lastly, we got the bi bim bob. Another staple for our Korean food. Mix it up, cut up the fried egg and it was so good. Loved all of it. Very good Korean food. So this was a really good Korean food place. Bbq yourself or have the kitchen cook it. Either way it's good. Great food. Great Korean food. Decent service cause they are so busy with a huge waiting line. So if you like Korean food and in Austin, give it a try. It's very good. We enjoyed it.

Yelp
Wow!! I have never had Korean barbecue and it was amazing! I'm so glad I was able to try this type of food! The restaurant is very chill and the staff is friendly. My group and I ordered B15 assorted bbq. The bulgogi was phenomenal and so was the marinated short ribs. I would definitely come back here again and order something different. Loved the kimchi salad too!

Emery G.

Yelp
When I'm craving Korean food, I always end up here! My go to is their Kimchi jjigae, chadol, and spicy pork bulgogi. The side dishes are one of the main reasons I keep coming back. If they'd let me I'd buy their side dishes in bulk I would lol. The service is phenomenal as well, all of the staff are incredibly sweet

Yelp
Fun place. I really enjoyed the food, the kids did as well and had a great time grilling and eating. The drinks are nice, the service is above average, and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Yelp
Came with a big group of 20 so it was a bit chaotic with the staff who had trouble remembering all our orders.. I'm not sure if I'd come again, the food was just okay.

Yelp
You would think for a large space, there would be more help. Instead, you have waiters that serve as hosts and busboys as well. The wait time seems unnecessary, as there are plenty of seats available, but not enough employees to seat you. We ordered the Soon Doo Boo (Soft Tofu Spicy Soup with beef), the B7 Dwaeji Bulgogi (marinated pork slices), and B2 Yangnyum Galbi (marinated beef short ribs) for the night. The Soon Doo Boo was watered down and almost bland! However, the quality of the B7 and B2 were full of flavor and had great taste. Compared to other Korean restaurants in Austin, Chosun is much pricier. We paid $110 for all of the above (including a Veggie Pajeon), compared to the $35 we would normally pay.

Yelp
I've read other negative reviews and they hit it right. I've been to Los Angeles Chosun Korean BBQ numerous of times, they're considered high end best quality Korean bbq and it shows it. I give that place 5 stars. I wanted Chosun in Austin TX to be as good as the one in LA, but it doesn't come close. The taste and presentation doesn't compare. I was disappointed in their lunch version of bulgoggi. It was cooked in a pan instead of flame grilled making the meat less flavorful and tough. Not to mention watery. This restaurant reminds me of hole in the wall cheap style Korean food.. I wouldn't call it Chosun. I didn't want to write negative review, but with the price they're charging, they should up their game.

Yelp
My friend and I have been craving Korean food the past week and so we tried our luck and checked out Chosun. *** Even though there was only one waitress working the lunch hour, the customer service was phenomenal. The restaurant was already pretty busy with different sized parties here and there but we got seated, drinks served, and amicable service throughout by the server, Tori was her name. We ordered the seafood pancake, bossam, and Jaeyook bokkum followed with an array of traditional Korean side dishes. Pleased to say everything was well seasoned, flavorful, and served in great time (hardly any wait). Me and my friend really enjoyed all the dishes and our cravings were most definitely satisfied :) I've never been a fan of having to wait ages just to get the bill or maybe get a to-go box but once again, excellent customer service by Tori who had it ready for us beforehand and given at an appropriate time. If you ever want a good meal, great service, and a fun time - definitely worth checking out! (And also definitely wanting our dining experience with Tori again!)

Yelp
Sub-par KBBQ that would be out of business in 3 months if this were located in LA or NYC. Poor quality meat, inconsistent policies on what you can and can't order, slow service most of the time, etc. Non BBQ dishes are extremely average at best. Most are bland and flavorless.

Yelp
I honestly had no idea this place is as good as it is. I've seen it on Yelp, but the low rating dissuaded me from visiting. However, one of my friends knows good Korean places in Austin, and he recommended us visit here after we found out Korea House was closed. Their service is really good. Food came out quickly even though we ordered 8 things. Their side dishes are just okay, but I really liked their hangover soup (I actually had a hangover and it cured it immediately). I also enjoyed their pork and cold noodles.

Yelp
We went to a wine tasting event around the corner and needed some food PRONTO. this was a new spot so we gave it a go. Doesn't look like much, but the Dduk Bae ki Bulgogi is FIRE. we didn't know you have to press the button for your bill, but the service was good. Prices were reasonable. I'd absolutely go back, 5/5.

Yelp
Awful experience. When we arrived there were about three tables seated and the entire restaurant was empty on a Saturday evening at 5 PM. This should have been our first clue that this would not have been such a pleasant experience. As we were seated at our table for a party of six. No one came to acknowledge us being at the restaurant. After 8 minutes, I rang the bell to request our server. Three minutes go by and a nice server came out to inform us that they needed to move us to a new table as there was a reservation for this table. Let me remind you, at this point there was still only three tables other than ours in the restaurant. We move and its not a big issue. As our food comes we notice that the banchan is pretty small in quantity for the amount of people that we have. We finish what was provided and request more while eating three portions of bbq, one big hot pot and multiple appetizers. A new server comes and states that we cannot have more kimchi as we have already had a refill. I asked if it was possible to even pay for more kimchi and his response was to roll his eye and walk to the back. The amount of kimchi we got was enough for each person to have one piece. It's weird that kimchi, a staple for a Korean meal, was not provided with the amount of food ordered. Overall, food was mediocre at best, overpriced, and the service was atrocious. I will not be going back. I would highly recommend going to Korea House (10 min away) as opposed to this place.

Yelp
I haven't been here in over 10 years and my fiancé and I were craving Korean barbecue so this spot was an option as our usual spot was closed on Sundays. We were seated promptly at arrival. Service was pretty slow and our table didn't have the service bell like all the others. Everything was okay, the sides were a hit or miss. The kimchi tasted bland. We ordered pork belly and marinated galbi and steamed egg. My fiancé commented that the steamed egg needed seasoning. The amount of meat you get for $30 something bucks is very little. Overall I have tried better but for something that was nearby and convenient it was okay.

Yelp
Clean environment, decent service, solid but pricey food. I loved the seafood pancake!! The breading had the perfect crunchy to moist ratio, and there was a fair amount of seafood mixed in (though I'd prefer more). For bbq, we tried the pork belly, plain galbi, and marinated galbi. Meat quality seemed good, and the cuts were clean. Though the marinated galbi was unevenly marinated- some parts tasted entirely plain. I took off a star because side dishes were kind of disappointing, marinated galbi was lacking in flavor, and prices were pretty high relative to comparable kbbq options. There was plentiful parking. We arrived at about 8:30pm on a Friday and had a 30 minute wait time.

Yelp
My mom was wanting to eat here for her early birthday dinner. She was wanting ribs and spicy cold noodles. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in. They have a button on the wall you can press to call, for your bill or cancel if you change your mind. You can hear the bell sound when you press it. Definitely reminds me of Korea since they had the same system back in the day. So be sure if you need a refill on side dishes or drinks and when you need your check that you press the button. My mom ordered the bbq combo of ribs and spicy cold noodles, I ordered the chicken bulgogi and my spouse ordered the spicy pork bulgogi. My mom wanted the meats cooked in the kitchen since she didn't want to be in the smoke. I wish we cooked on the grill as I feel like the meat would have nice a grilled taste to it. The meat they gave us looked like it was pan fried. No BBQ taste at all. The chicken bulgogi was bland. I tried to dip it into the spicy bean paste to give it more flavor or even eat it with the cabbage kimchi to spice it up. The spicy cold noodles weren't bad. The spicy pork bulgogi was ok. The short ribs were ok and fatty. Not sure if we should have just BBQ the meat to give it more flavor or not. The service was good. Just be sure to press the button for service and for the check.

Yelp
I am Korean from Austin and have been coming here for my entire life, pretty much never gone anywhere else for kbbq. I still love this place and appreciate the owners and management, food is still delicious top tier in Austin. However, the prices are becoming, in my opinion, completely unreasonable. We paid $140 with tip (I am not sure if the price is meant to include tip as that is custom in Korea. If so, it is more reasonably priced) for two people. My brother left slightly hungry, although I ate my fill. Great place, just don't understand why it's become so expensive.

Yelp
One of the best Korean BBQ place in town. (Being a Korean myself, not the best in the world but best around the neighborhood) All servers are bilingual and they are all very well-mannered. The restaurant is very spacious but I would recommend making a reservation if you want to go in a group of more than six people. When I go with non-Korean people, I usually order soy marinated galbi because of its sweet and juicy taste. But my absolute favorite is plain (non-marinated) galbi and pork. You can taste the true meat this way. Finish off with either cold noodles or soy bean paste stew. They have pretty good ones!

Yelp
I really hate giving out 1 star reviews and try my best to give the establishment an upgrade. Sometimes doesn't always work out for the best. Not in this case. I workout at a private gym that is located in the same parking lot as Chosun. During this COVID season I decided that this was a good time to see if I could update my review and give them more stars. Anything but a 1. It became very convenient to stop in and grab some food to go or dine in if they weren't that busy. Things have certainly improved since my 1 star review. The customer service is really on par. Especially for Koreans as they can sometimes come across as rude. Not these guys they are friendly as all get out. Especially the girl with the shiny hair clips. She's a gem for sure. Out of all the Korean joints I hit up these guys have better quality of meats. I like their selections of galbi's and bulgogi's better than other joints. My two favorites are the Maiwoon Dwaeji (spicy pork ribs that will get your fingers all yummy messy) and the LA Galbi. These two dishes are heaven on the taste buds. I wish that they would add more grilled onions to the LA Galbi. I swear one day I will remember to ask them. Speaking of asking. If you like sour kimchi(Hell yeah!!) ask for it. They have it. Sometimes not as sour as you'd expect, but better than the fresh in my opinion. As for the bulgogi's they have spicy chicken as well as the soy sauce version. I like the spicy. I'm just a spicy man what can I say. As for my favorite bulgogi it is the spicy pork version. It has been my favorite since I was introduced to it in Taegu So Korea back in 1987. A very long love affair. I'm glad that I have been able to upgrade my original review. I think these guys have definitely earned it. I am now the new duke of Chosun. LOL. I can't wait until this pandemic is behind us and we can be ourselves again. I want to host a UYE here and do the BBQ. Keeping it local.

Yelp
Excellent service and good food. A little on the pricey side but worth it if you're looking for a quality Korean bbq experience. Not AYCE but the quality of the meat was very good. Ordered the yangyang galbi and samgyeobsal

Yelp
Chosun Galbi is a great spot for Korean BBQ in Austin! We have been here more times than I can count. As an appetizer, we usually start with the Seafood Pajeon, which is a "Korean pancake made with assorted seafood and vegetables." It is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and has a very generous amount of seafood & vegetables included. Our favorite meat dishes here are the Bulgogi, "slices of beef marinated in specially made house soy sauce," and the Dwaeji Bulgogi, which is made with pork rather than beef. The flavor of the bulgogi here is amazing! I would for sure recommend trying either the beef or pork. We have a hard time ordering other meats because these 2 are so good. One thing to note about Chosun is the price. It is decently expensive to dine here, especially without an all you can eat option. Even with the high price tag, the delicious Korean BBQ keeps us coming back for more!

Yelp
I've been to Chosun a handful of times now, and it seems to have ranged between 2 - 3.5 stars based on my experience. BBQ tends to lean on the lower end (2 - 3 stars). Their meats are not terribly well marinated and banchan across the board is pretty bland. Pricing is not too bad for KBBQ, but if you've had good KBBQ before, you're like to be dissapointed. The biggest kicker here is having to pay for additional sides even though you probably weren't a big fan of the banchan to begin with. Their other normal dishes are pretty good, 3 - 3.5 stars. Kim Jjigae is a staple dish and one that should hit your K-craving. Service is nice and they can take reservations for large parties. You can opt to do a large party in the main restaurant area (decent-sized booths) or reserve a private room for a $25 room charge.

Yelp
One of the better Korean places to eat in Austin in my opinion. I see other reviews complain on service but whenever I've been hasn't been terribly crowded so I never noticed. Also they have buttons on the wall for you to call for them when you need. I find their food items on the pricier side unless you're able to come for their lunch specials. Otherwise I think most items are good for sharing. My friend and I shared a seafood pancake and bbq and tofu stew combo and that was more than enough to fill us. Of course it also comes with some banchan (side dishes!). The tofu stew combo we got came with galbi and it was quite tender and tasty. I also love the purple rice! I wish I knew what it was officially called so I can buy it or make it myself.

Yelp
Korean restaurant in Austin, Texas. Since I have not had a Korean meal past 6 days, I had to have a Korean dinner. The restaurant was opened until 10pm, Sunday so five of us walked in. There were a lot of empty seats and seated right away. We ordered two orders of not marinated galbi and samgyubsal(pork belly), seafood tofu soup, yookgaejang(spicy beef stew) and dolsot bibimbab. Everything tasted good to our taste including banchan(side dishes). The waitress came with a check and explained that 18% gratitude was included in the bill. We were all full and happy with the dinner. We will be back when we are in Austin next time.
