Where to Eat Lunch in Rittenhouse, Philadelphia | Eater Philly

"For a quick dose of Sichuan or Taiwanese fare, turn to Dandan for scallion pancakes, dry-pepper french fries, hand-wrapped cumin lamb noodles, and three-cup chicken. Naturally, the eponymous dan dan noodles are a fan favorite." - Eater Staff

DanDan Review - Rittenhouse - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"DanDan is a good weekday lunch or post-work spot if you happen to work nearby in Rittenhouse, and they also have a reasonably priced Happy Hour (which unfortunately ends at 6pm). But if you’re able to get a seat at the bar before then and don’t mind rubbing elbows - literally - with other Center City diners, we’d advise ordering one of each of the baby DanDan noodles, the dry-seasoned chicken wings, and the spicy crispy cucumbers. Considering it’s located in the middle of Rittenhouse, it’s not surprising that DanDan is on the smaller side, and seating options are tight. Call ahead if you’re with a group (or consider getting your noodle fix at one of the larger Chinatown establishments). If you go in expecting an entire menu of familiar Taiwanese and Szechuan cuisine, you might be disappointed. But if you walk through the doors hungry and open to dishes like the pork belly burgers, you’ll leave satisfied and full." - Jordan Price

Where to Order Chinese Takeout and Delivery in Philadelphia - Eater Philly

"Han Dynasty alums Catherina and Kevin Huang opened DanDan in Rittenhouse in 2015 with a menu of southwestern Chinese dishes, and expanded to Wayne a few years later. Any of the pork belly dishes are a good place to start, in addition to the restaurant’s eponymous dan dan noodles. Takeout and delivery are available at both locations, along with dine-in options." - Jillian Wilson

Will be coming back, I really liked this place! It was worth coming to on an off/day time (good luck getting in on a Saturday night with no reservations). The cumin lab noodles were so good and so spicy with great flavor. Next I want to try the spicy beef noodles it was that good. Wontons in chili oil were great, definitely save the oil and put it on your rice. The eggplant and garlic sauce was good and a good balance to the spice of the lamb. Cute spot for a date night, highly recommend!

I was solo dining and sat at the bar. The bartender was very sweet and put in my order. Not sure if the order wasn’t placed in but tables that came in after me got their multiple plates of entrees brought to them, and my plate was no where to be seen. It took 30 minutes for the food to come out but the bartender did apologize for the wait… The spicy hand pulled noodles that I ordered with pork was average as well. Anyway overall mid experience.

I was craving spicy Sichuan cuisine and decided to stop by here after running some errands. I was not disappointed. I ordered the fresh hand-ripped flat noodles with spicy beef and the scallion pancakes. My beverage was the homemade ginger ale with lime juice. The noodle dish had the right amount of hot chili oil and minced garlic. These flavors did not overwhelm the noodles or beef. The cilantro and scallion garnish was just the right amount. I would have liked more baby bok choi, but that's okay. The noodles were cooked to the right softness, just beyond al dente. The beef was a bit tough though. The scallion pancakes were crispy and not to oily, but need more scallions. The ginger ale was very sour from the lime and I couldn't taste any ginger ale. Basically it was a glass of lime-onade. I had to request sugar to make it drinkable. The ambiance was okay, a bit crowded on the 1st floor. They could dial back the music volume. I did not visit the main dining room on the 2nd floor. The bill total was $31 +tip, the value was balanced for Center City. All in all, it was a good dining experience and will come back & recommend to others.

The place is okay. Small in front, assuming there’s a back room with tables or upstairs. We sat at the bar. The staff are all very young. They stood next to each other talking versus being attentive to guests. We ordered a “cocktail” but it came in pint glasses and was overly sweet. We had the Dan Dan noodles which were delicious and the ginger scallion chicken which was terrible. For a ginger dish, there was ZERO ginger flavor and the chicken looked so sad and was tasteless (see picture). Wouldn’t go back for dine in, but wouldn’t be opposed to get the noodles to go.

Google
Dan Dan is great! I'm chinese myself and I'd have to say the food here is amazing. My favorite appetizer is the spicy cucumber. The flavor of the chili oil paired with the cold crispy cucumbers is so good! Got green beans, stir fry long hot peppers with beef, rice cakes, and three cup chicken. Everything was delicious. Green beans were nice and cruncy (I don't like them soft). The long hot peppers aren't really that spicy. I have a low spice tolerance and they're mostly just a kick in your throat, but tongue on fire spice. Love rice cakes for their chewy texture in general. Three cup chicken was slightly sweet, savory, and very tender. My two friends also loved everything. Occasionally I get the rice with pork belly for lunch if I'm in the area. It's minced pork belly with fresh hot rice for only $5, can't beat the price!!

Google
GOOOOOOD GAWD I absolutely LOVE this place. I dont live in the state but whenever I make a chance to come to Philly I make sure to stop here. Came here on a whim a couple years ago and this place has placed its claws into my foodie soul for life. The Dan Dan Noodles are an absolute must! The scallion pancakes are a classic crunchy yummy dish and I tried the wonton chili oil today and it's a perfect amount of spice. This place has the best flavors and I truly dont understand any negative reviews here, it's always been consistent for me. Will of course be back and excited to try new dishes. Learned today that they have a happy hour from 4-6 with smaller bites, hopefully can do that next time so I can try more things!

Google
The atmosphere were really nice. The food was good the dumplings were delicious but being in the sauce made it fall apart a bit I rather had the sauce in the side. The beef was really good and overall liked the place a lot. I would recommend this place would visit it again to try their other foods.

Google
I went to Dan Dan with my son and his fiance from Laos. Jessica is a foodie that likes to find new places for us to eat. We got the pork belly for an appetizer which was delicious. I got the Udon noodles with chicken as my main entrée and really enjoyed it. I would definitely come back for another visit.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with coworkers and had such a great time! I definitely plan on returning and checking out their happy hour menu! Food, service, prices and ambiance were all great! We sat upstairs and ordered scallion pancakes, vegetarian string beans, Dan Dan noodles, farmers style dish and one more from the entrees. The Dan Dan noodles was the star of the show! I could eat that daily. The two entrees were just okay in my opinion. A few of my coworkers ordered the lychee martini and raved about it. They said it wasn't too sweet and delicious! I can't wait to return here!

Yelp
Assuming that the person that was by the host podium was the manager since after she shooed me away to sit at the bar she went behind a laptop. The service is pretty med. If the manager is practicing this way then it's acceptable for the staff to treat their guest with the lowest quality of service. Another guy was asking to be seated at a table since he didn't want to be part of the bar are. Honestly the bar was getting packed. I didn't want to be seated by the counter because I don't like to be elbow to elbow with strangers. But if you want to eat there get sardines packed on their counter as a party of 1. Honestly, if the guest is requesting to be sat on a table I believe they should allow it. How long can a person take to eat if the kitchen is giving out the food quick? The reason why I give three stars is the food. Dan Dan noodles was always fast and good. I've tried the duck, the spicy cucumbers, the pork belly(appetizer), and dumplings. They were all pretty good except the pork belly it was a pile of thin pieces of fats with sauce. I will say, the food comes very quick. The ambiance is pretty loud since I was sitting to people who just want to drink. If service is something you don't really care about, but you're hungry then this is a must since they will bring the food quick.

Yelp
I stopped by for a quick weekday lunch - it was a little busy when I got there around 1.30pm, but I was able to get seated immediately. However, they did tell me I had to sit at the bar, which was a little bit uncomfortable for a meal tbh, but I get that (since I was eating by myself), they probably preferred that I not take up a whole table. I ordered the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. I always check if the beef noodle soup includes cilantro (I am a big cilantro-hater), and in this case the server told me there wasn't. But, when it arrived - gasp! - I saw minced cilantro in the broth (and a quick taste test confirmed it wasn't something like Thai basil or parsley or something). I let the server know and, absolutely to her credit, she apologised profusely, brought me another bowl quickly, and also comped me a drink, a gesture that I really appreciated. That being said, the beef noodle soup was not great. The broth was very salty and not savoury/fragrant with the aroma of the stewed beef. The noodles were chewy, which I liked. The biggest flaw, though, was with the beef chunks, which were consistently overcooked / hard to chew. Beef noodle soup usually has tender cuts of stewed beef that easily fall apart when chewing, but almost every piece of beef here was quite tough and difficult to bite into :(. All in all, a pretty meh experience overall. My interactions with the staff were quite lovely, but the food in particular left quite a bit to be desired. Perhaps I'd order something different if I were to return, but I don't imagine that to be anytime soon.

Yelp
This is our go to place to bring out of town friends because of how consistently good the food is and it has always been a hit. Usually we end up getting their famous DanDan noodles, Cumin chicken/lamb (prefer the chicken over the lamb) and a couple of lychee martinis. This time we wanted to try something else on the menu - got the Beef and Tripe in Chili Oil and Green Peppercorn Hot Sauce Dish. The beef and tripe in chili oil is a cold appetizer with thinly sliced pieces of beef intestine. Even though there is not much heat to it and is only mildly flavored, there is a nice aroma and tenderness to it. I think it is a great summer app and a perfect starter to a spicier main dish. The hot sauce dish is one of their spicier dishes and while it is heavy on sichuan flavors that can easily overshadow other ingredients, it was remarkably balanced and hot enough to let the flavors coming through. The large dishes always come with a ton of rice and they never skimp on the meat either.

Yelp
Dan Dan suggests a focus on Sichuan cuisine, renowned for its bold spices and intricate flavors. My standout favorite was the shredded potato, which provided a delightful contrast to the spice with its salty, garlicky crunch.

Yelp
Hadn't been to this Dan Dan location before and only to the one in Ardmore but I really enjoyed the food here more but the ambiance in Ardmore I prefer more. Food quality was exactly the same which is a big plus. I kept it late seasonal with the Pumpkin Rice Noodles with shredded pork. VERY GOOD. Nothing else to add to it. Didn't get a single picture because I spilled water on my phone and it wouldn't act right. Shoutout to the server who offered to dry my phone off for me. You're the GOAT.

Yelp
I'd actually been to Dan Dan years ago, the last time I was in Philly, and decided to come back. Even years later, the noodles were still memorable, but this time I decided to try something else. They had a bunch of options for entrées, but I decided to go with Hot Dry Pot Dish (Chicken), since it came with a bunch of vegetables. I was very pleased with the portion size and the dish was delicious! I actually sat at the bar, since it was just me, but they had plenty of regular tables as well. The vibes were pretty relaxed, but I could see it being more lively on a Friday or Saturday night. I really enjoyed my meal here!

Yelp
I and my partner were fans of Han Dynasty back in college and heard that the dan dan noodles at Dan Dan were quite similar, so we decided to give them a try for old-times sake. Right when we walked in, I could tell that Dan Dan was designed with maybe a younger and more "modern" vibe than even Han Dynasty, with a lot of bar seating and a second floor of dining that reminded me of a trendy Manhattan restaurant. The two of us went without a reservation and only the bar seats were available; the tight space makes me think this spot would be less suited for a family meal than most other Chinese restaurants and better for a young-adult hangout. We ordered the dan dan noodles (of course) and the cumin lamb hand-ripped noodles, with cumin lamb being a Sichuan dish I love and I wanted to see how theirs measured up. Service was quick and the food was enough for us to share and feel full. The dan dan noodles, like Han Dynasty's, had a nice nutty flavor with ample spice, though there was only a small sprinkle of ground pork and scallion and I wish there was more to add to the texture. The cumin lamb noodles were tasty but also not as good as I've had them; the noodles were so wide they were a little impractical to eat, and while it had plenty of heat, I feel like the fragrance of cumin and mala was not as much as other Sichuan places. All told, the meal was quite reasonably priced and I left pretty satisfied. I think this is a good spot for people trying Sichuan food for the first time or who don't eat much of it and want to try Chinese food that's a little different in a hip bar-like setting. But for Sichuan aficionados or those looking for a calmer ambience or a slower-paced meal, there are other restaurants that may fit the bill better.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place after having a failed experience with a happy hour place in downtown. But luckily this place still had happy hour! When we walked in, the restaurant was fairly empty; however, it took a bit of time before being able to get seated. The restaurant is smaller in size, but it didn't get overly noisy! We ordered our food and the best dish was the French fries with cumin seasoning! The seasoning paired with a mayo dipping sauce complemented eachother very well and it was on happy hour!! My friend and I shared the beef noodle soup and it was pretty good even tho it wasn't authentic in taste and ingredient. Perfect for a winter day! The other dish was the dry noodle and that had good flavors as well. Overall, the portion, price, and taste were really good here. I would only be weary of the seating in the restaurant.

Yelp
Dined in and was able to try a few different entrees. Bumping it up as everything was nice. Ginger shredded duck was okay, mild in flavor. Lychee fish was very good, I would order this again. Fried tofu dish good as well. A bit on the higher side cost wise for some things comparatively, but all around good. It's a bit cramped inside so smaller groups are better.

Yelp
Service was friendly and the waiter had a sense of humor. Food was absolutely delicious. I was able to get the chili oil on the side and heat to my taste which was perfect. Cute atmosphere but a bit tight. We dined upstairs but there were some tables and bar seating on the ground floor. Restrooms were on the ground floor in the back and kind of tight. For parking, we parked in a garage under some building after driving around for about 10 mins or so. All in all, a really great lunch and cute restaurant. Happy we ate here, would totally recommend, and would dine here again.

Yelp
Found raving reviews online in addition to the amazing photos that fans posted. I found myself in my hotel room ordering food from this amazing place. Ordered through DoorDash which my experience was pleasant. The house fried rice was sooooo good. Full of flavor and the portion was big enough to feed two. I would've loved to order more of the other entrees perhaps next visit. Thank you DANDAN . I love Asian food and this was definitely one of the BEST Chinese fried rice I have had !

Yelp
Food: Liked the dan dan noodles, the twice cooked stir fry fish was nice too. Food was a bit oily, but not over the top. Good value for money Service: didnt eat on the spot, took out the food Ambiance: A small cozy place

Yelp
I had an exchange student from China seek out this place and put it on the map for me. Since then, I've been here a few times. Here's my takeaway: Food - lots of options to choose from, tasty, right amount of spice, and flavor Service - op point, even when busy Ambiance - dimly lit at night for a swanky vibe and bright and airy during the day. My only recommendation is that the prices seemed a bit high, even for Rittenhouse. Just getting takeout was a bit more than I would had expected to pay.

Yelp
Dan Dan was a wonderful experience. Jacob, Alex, and our bartender were absolutely excellent. The food was so delicious and spicy. Will definitely stop by whenever I am in Philly.
google avatar

Anusha S.

Yelp
Food: simply put, incredible. We got the spicy cucumbers and lamb cumin noodles. Both were unlike anything I've ever had before in the best way possible. The cucumbers were light and crisp tossed in a delicious, cooling sauce. The portion for the cumin noodles was perfect and there is a good potion of flavorful lamb. If you don't like cumin, this dish is not for you as it's pretty strong. Fair warning, their food is spicy. Service: excellent, restaurant was packed when we were there but staff was still really nice and accommodating Ambiance: very lively, relatively small space with 2 floors. Recommend getting reservations Would I go back? 110%, already planning my next visit

Yelp
We came here our first night in town, and wow this place was amazing. We ordered the smoke braised pork belly, scallion pancakes, and spicy cumin lamb noodles. Everything was amazing. My personal favorite was the cumin lamb noodles. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the lamb had just the rice amount of spice. Really affordable too!

Yelp
Went to Dan Dan schezuan restaurant for lunch and had the cold sesame noodles and wonton soup. The wonton soup was fresh with a tasty broth and the wontons had a nice pork flavor to them. Very nicely done. I am a big fan of sesame noodle and not everyone know how to do them right. Dan Dan does! They were very tasty as well. The service was excellent! I would definitely recommend them and will be back to try more of their delicious dishes.

Yelp
This is a great Chinese restaurant in Rittenhouse! Our group of 4 was seated within ten minutes for weekend lunch. The dumplings in oil were a perfect balance of spice and sweetness (not too spicy, so you can eat them quickly). The cumin lamb noodles were flavorful and not gamey at all for lamb, with full and chewy noodles. The lychee fish had a nice crispy texture in a sweet glaze. The service was prompt and friendly, refilling our waters constantly. The ambiance was modern and clean, with plenty of seating on the ground level and upstairs. I highly recommend this restaurant!
google avatar

Alexander P.

Yelp
Tons of gluten free options! The entire menu has items that cannot be ordered GF marked as such. The dry pepper chicken had a crispity-crunchity rice breading coating and a nice heat. On the other hand, it was a bit dry like it had been over cooked / set out. My one gripe is that most of the dishes *look* like they have gluten (i.e "breaded" (rice), (rice) noodles) -- so would be nice to have verbal confirmation that the dishes was prepared GF.

Yelp
Came here with a large group for dinner (made reservations about an hour before) and the restaurant was super accommodating and seated our 12 person group promptly. Service was good, we shared a few plates in small groups, and our server kept track of everything (including substitutions etc.) quite well. We shared the Dan Dan Noodles (vegetarian without a protein), Scallion Pancakes, and Mapo Tofu. All three items were delicious! I really like the Dan Dan noodles - a bit peanutty, pretty spicy, saucy and very flavorful, these were slurpable and delicious. The scallion pancakes were thin and very flaky and much better than I've had at other locally-owned Chinese restaurants in the area. Mapo Tofu was also spicy, garlicky, and packed with flavor. Overall would definitely recommend Dan Dan - call ahead if you'd like to make reservations or are coming with a bigger group. Will be back as a reliable place for good food that suits a variety of tastes and needs.

Yelp
i went here on two occasions, and both times were fantastic. the first time we came was at about 12pm. my sister and i ordered the wontons & dumplings in chili oil. they came out piping hot. all of the food is made to order, so things may not come out of the kitchen at the exact same time. however, it'll be fresh when you do get it so don't fret. when they mention something has a certain spice level, believe them. for my entree i ordered the hot and sour glass noodles and they were spicy! the sour part sort of balanced out the spice, but they had a true kick to them. the bowl that the noodles came in were also huge. the second time we went, i ordered the same appetizer and this time i opted for the dan dan noodles. they were more nutty in flavor than others i've had, but they were still tasty. not nearly as spicy as the first dish i tried from here. the space has 2 levels and it's quite small but i've never had to wait to be sat, i guess we came at the perfect time (12pm on saturday) and (3pm on saturday). take this with a grain of salt because saturdays are often busy, we just lucked out. the second upstairs level is really cute, a little tight but they're working with what they have. definitely recommend this spot in center city!
google avatar

Yelp
A very pretty hole-in-the-wall for a quick lunch of the signature dish. The place was deserted yet we were asked if we had a reservation. WIthin the hour the upstairs filled in nicely. Service is fast and efficient, and we couldn't resist the pork sauce on the dan dan noodles with a side of crunchy cuke salad. While the sauces were tasty and spicy, the noodles lacked integrity -- a bit limp for my palate. When we couldn't finish, the polite server provided plastic containers and a shopping bag. Would definitely like to return!
google avatar

Carmella G.

Yelp
It was a date and both of our first time being there. We ordered four different dishes, the Dan Dan noodles being a definite one that we had to order. I liked them, wasn't expecting them to be so spicy but I still liked them.
google avatar

Yelp
ADDICTING. I'd highly recommend booking a reservation in advance because it gets packed even on a weekday night or you might end up in a bar seat. The space is tight as it's located in downtown and expect to be loud and bustling. Dan Dan noodles - The namesake and highlight of the meal. Chewy, saucy, not as peanut-y noodles. The default spice was spicier than I thought it was going to be. But that sauce I could use for anything. Great price as well! Wontons in chili oil - Bottom of the list of things I've tried, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good. Nice spice and a hefty wonton. Dry pepper French fries - This also comes with a aioli on the side that was refreshing and it helped to help balance the saltiness of the fries. Cumin lamb hand ripped noodles - Lamb didn't taste super game-y and pleasant to eat. Packed with a lot of flavor and felt the noodles soaked in the sauce nicely. This is a place I can see myself going back to next time I'm in downtown Philly!

Yelp
I love this place! It's nice to get amazing authentic Sichuan at a place that has a great vibe, ambiance, etc. at a spot right in Rittenhouse. Happy hour is great, but you must have it at the bar. I absolutely love the Dan Dan noodles, and I order it without pork. The food comes our pretty quick! The entrees are all pretty big so please don't order your own entree and keep it to yourself. Eat it family style!

Yelp
We came here on a weekday for lunch. It's been a while since we've been here and I'm disappointed they've discontinued their lunch menu. The place wasn't busy, so we got seated immediately. My wife and I ordered the spicy aromatic pot with ribeye, which was quite an expensive splurge compared to other meat and vegetable options but was a good portion for two. Thr ribeye was finely sliced and consisted of a fair amount of the dry pot's ingredients, and was pretty tasty. The dish came with white rice on the side, which paired well. Having been here a few times, we'll be back again but this isn't a must try place anymore.

Yelp
With sister: - Dan Dan (spice level 4) - baby bok choy with garlic - cumin tofu -- requested less bell peppers and onions (spice level 5) - garlic tofu (spice level 3) Highest spice level 5 was fine; not unbearable.
google avatar

Tansy W.

Yelp
The seating isn't particularly spacious but the food is decent. Specifically: - The best dish was the wontons in chili oil. - The Dan Dan noodles were good but not really Dan Dan noodles (more like Chinese peanut butter noodles). - The Taiwanese beef noodle soup was alright - the beef was tender but I thought the dish overall lacked a bit of flavor. - The Chinese cabbage with dried peppers was good but also pretty much what you would expect. I'd come back again if in the area to try some of the other dishes but not sure I would come out of my way for it.

Yelp
Dan dan noodles are life! They make the noods fresh. I would recommend asking for less spicy if you aren't used to heat.

Yelp
Big fan of this place!! Portions were big and pricing was great. We love the flavors of Sichuan food and I think they did a great job of maintaining authenticity. If you're looking for a place to grab a good casual bite, this is a good option.

Yelp
First time having food in Philadelphia and my friend for a res here. Great selection of Chinese food and the spice was the perfect amount for someone who prefers food to be mild spice. The sauces on the dishes were also really great. Def recommend the dry hot pot dish
google avatar

Yelp
Spicy beef noodle soup and dry pepper french fries were my comfort options on a Sunday night. I sat at the counter. Service was friendly and professional, and the food was incredible. To the best of my knowledge, the flavors and textures are authentic, but even if they're not they're delicious. The broth is rich and spicy. The noodles are springy and chewy with lots of texture to hold onto the broth. The noodles tend to be VERY LONG, so lift with caution so you don't wind up splashing broth all over yourself.

Yelp
Stopped here for takeout and we enjoyed our selections. We ordered salt n pepper crispy wings, a noodle dish and some spring rolls. Food was flavorful and tasty. Service was fast. Street parking was available.

Yelp
We got take out from here and immediately thought maybe this would be better as dine in once we ate. We put in the comments to make 2 of the dishes a spice level 2 instead of 4 but when we received them it was evident they didn't change it. For other restaurants we've ordered take out from, if they can't accommodate the request, they would contact you to let you know. We were bummed because it wasn't a cheap meal. The taste of the pork dan dan was good with the exception of the noodle being more mushy than Al dente. We also had much higher hopes for the dry pepper chicken but again, pretty mushy than anything. Maybe it was our fault for having our first experience with this restaurant as take out but my rating still stands because of the lack of communication from the restaurant to us about the special order details.

Yelp
Came in around 9 on Friday night & was very pleasantly surprised -- all servers were friendly and very accommodating despite it being later in the evening and pretty busy. However service was understandably slower and our food came out at different times in a weird order (entree before our appetizers/sharables). The homestyle fish had solid sweet & sour flavors, but was not as spicy as I was hoping. The dan dan noodles were pretty good and were very creamy and rich. The highlight was definitely the spicy crispy cucumbers which helped cleanse our palette throughout the meal and offered some really great spice, while being a little sweet. Overall, I really enjoyed it -- it was great for a date night but can definitely get backed up and crowded, especially near the front tables by the bar. Food was good, but I think could have been better with more spice on the fish & a little more balance on the dan dan noodles for my personal preference.

Yelp
Dan Dan noodles (4 chili spice level) - There was spice but I would rate it as a level 2; it was pleasant but only present. Not a strong spicy at all. Delicious peanut sauce and chewy noodles! 4/5 Eggplants (2 spice level) - Not spicy at all and was appetizing to eat but the amount of serving was bit overportioned. Would prefer smaller portion for a cheaper price. 3/5 Dry pepper chicken (2 spice level) - Not spicy at all. Wasn't as cripsy crunchy as I hoped from the friedness. Tasted lukewarm temperature rather than hot and didn't provide as much protein as I hoped for. 2/5 Food left us full for sure and staff was pleasant! I wouldn't mind eating here again overall

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here for awhile as there aren't that many Taiwanese places in Philly. We got the dry pepper chicken and five spice tofu to go and they were both amazing dishes. They were packaged nicely for takeout. I wasn't able to try their more authentic Taiwanese dishes this time but now that I'm impressed with their takeouts I definitely need to visit and dine in next time. If you want authentic Asian food but you're not in Chinatown, definitely hit up this spot!

Yelp
This is not a typical traditional Asian food joint (you'll likely have to venture to Chinatown in order to find that). The dan dan noodles are indeed spicy, but it had too much of a peanut butter taste. The minced pork wasn't bad, but also not a stand out for me. Overall, I felt the meal was very heavy and the food was almost over flavored. The place can get crowded and still seems really popular so I'd recommend making a reservation if you want to eat there. I also felt that the seats at the bar were not tall enough.

Yelp
First time here and completely blown away by the decor and design -- very nice place for lunch or dinner (especially lunch as the sun lights up the entire room). Food came out pretty quickly, service was great in the beginning, but it seemed like we got less attention as it became busier. Dan Dan Noodles - Some great Dan Dan Noodles. Not a lot of heat -- just right to be able to stuff your face without having to take water breaks. These are pretty light and fun to eat. The flavor isn't intense -- makes a good shareable appetizer or side. Scallion Pancake - This is a pretty sizable appetizer; you get a pretty large pancake cut into 8 slices with dipping sauce. It's flaky and not overly oily, which of course makes for a great scallion pancake. Soup Dumplings - Can't go wrong with these. Solid soup dumplings. Ginger Shredded Duck - Pretty good, but seemed like it was missing something. Duck was flavorful and juicy, but maybe a sauce would have worked well with it and the green peppers. Value: 4/5 Quality: 4/5 Quantity: 5/5 Service: 3/5 Atmosphere: 5/5

Yelp
We were in the area and so we had to stop in and get the beef tendon for takeout. Hubby said he can't find any place that makes beef tendons anymore, let alone one that is tasty. As I waited for the takeout beef tendon, I noticed the restaurant was full and the takeout counter was filled with takeout bags ready for pickup. It's amazing how this place is entirely staffed with non-Asians (as far as I can see).....yet the food is SO authentically Sichuan. Its even more authentic than the slew of Sichuan restaurants in Edison, NJ. Flavor of the food is very tasty and legit spicy. The only gripes I have are 1) prices are high 2) the place is dark and danky, like a hole in the wall 3) when we came in the summer, it was very hot and stuffy inside.

Wow! Fresh noodles and large portions. I highly recommend the classic Dan Dan noodles.

Yelp
The food is always amazing but the service is shitty. The male assistant manager that works at 3:30 pm on 19JUL will be the reason this company loses business. I placed an order online called to double check my allergy adjustment and he says my food has already been made and the dasher has picked it up. This is a boldface lie as I was on hold for 3 minutes and called immediately after placing the order. The dasher had not even been assigned. His customer service is terrible and will lose your company much business. I am a regular that dines here almost weekly and will not be returning.

Yelp
Dan Dan is such a solid spot. It's such a great option for delicious food in the city. The garlic sauce with chicken is my go-to, but everything I've had here has been really good. Service is usually quick. There's bar and table seating inside. They also have some outdoor / street side seating as well. I've always gone for lunch but their happy hour looks pretty good too!

Yelp
I love the Dan Dan noodles, the Taiwanese fried chicken, and the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. I have done both takeout and dine in and both have been good. I think dining in is better for the fried food since it gets a little soggy otherwise. It's very close quarters in this restaurant but that is typical of Philly. I do think it was a little chilly at the entrance as well but we definitely have gotten seated at the overflow table since we didn't make reservations. Anyway the service is friendly and I would recommend this to anyone who wants a little more upscale/expensive Asian cuisine.

Yelp
Yummy knife cut noodles!! Came here for dinner on a week night and there was no wait. We sat outside but honestly should've probably sat inside for the vibes

Yelp
Mapo tofu was on point. Great amount of spice level and cooked well. The cumin fried tofu was enjoyable; it's crispy with peppers and onions. I was much happier with my mapo tofu but that's a personal preference in all honesty. The only reason why this place gets 4/5 stars is because the rice was average or below average. It seemed old, maybe it was just average to begin with, not sure. Also, not being able to split a check for 6 at a very popular spot in Philly is inconvenient, just saying!
