The 25 Best Restaurants In Montreal 2024

"Wandering around the Old Port is definitely more fun when your walk ends at Dandy for brunch or a little day drinking. The menu transitions seamlessly from brunch to the afternoon, with ricotta pancakes and maple brown butter, tahini yogurt toast with muhammara, and a super-charged buttermilk fried chicken on brioche.  The high ceilings and huge windows flood the space with light, making it an ideal spot for a casual meetup—add on an espresso (or espresso martini) or a Canadian Bloody Caesar and settle in. You’ll probably have to wait for a table on the weekends, so we suggest stopping by on a weekday if you can." - ivy lerner frank, team infatuation

I had a great experience at Dandy. The service was excellent and very efficient. The brunch menu is creative and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Despite the long line outside, it moved quickly and we were seated sooner than expected. The restaurant has a smart system where the menu is already available outside, so you can decide what you want before going in. Once we were seated, our food arrived very fast, which made the whole experience even better. The ambiance is modern and lively, and both the indoor and outdoor spaces are beautifully designed. Definitely a spot I’d return to and recommend for anyone looking for a high-quality brunch in the city.

Google
This place doesn't take reservations. I came here on a Wednesday around noon and it was pretty packed but we didn't have to wait more than maybe 20 minutes for a table. Parking in the area is not great, but it's expected. So plan ahead. The menu is the perfect size and had trouble choosing as everything sounded amazing. We went with multiple plates, and enjoyed all of them. I really enjoyed the potatoes. The service was great, and the atmosphere was nice. It definitely emptied out around 1pm. So if you don't want to wait in line, just go outside peak hours. I would definitely recommend and am looking forward to coming back one day.

Google
beautiful ambiance. beautiful light. beautiful service. our food took a while to come and our waiter (basil? apologies if I spelled that wrong) sent over pastries/cookies for the kids that he overheard them talking about when we walked in. attention to detail and attention to your customers are always a plus for me. thank you for the amazing food and beautiful service. will visit again!

Google
I brought my parents to have a Mother’s Day celebration. The wait time was super quick, like 5-10 minutes and we were served to a nice table. The server was very courteous, and the food was quick to come even if it was packed. The food were all really good and a very good portion. We ate only savoury food. 😋😋My dad and mom really enjoyed their time there and thought it was super tasty. The patates and chicken are super yum!!!!

Google
There’s a line here for good reason. The food is excellent as is the service for a spot so busy. We had Caesars to start followed by the Chicken Sandwich, Ricotta Pancakes & fingerling potatoes. Everything was fabulous. You know a place is great when you’re planning your next choice from the menu before you leave. Thank you ! ❤️

Google
Dandy is one of those places where everything just feels right. The chai latte was smooth and full of flavor cozy in the best way. The pancakes were light, fluffy, and honestly hard to forget. The space is beautiful without trying too hard, and the staff made the whole experience feel even warmer. Thank you!

Google
Endless Summer: 4/5 I enjoyed the large portion and the seasoned avocado was great. The bread and egg was good but didn’t wow me. The rest of the ensemble with the veggies and sauce was really good. Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwhich 5/5: the best for me it had a crunch with the fried egg. It was heavenly a must try.

Google
Great spot, second time eating here. The food, this time around, was good, but missing something. Last year it blew me away, this time, not so much!! New chef? The menu changes every season or so, so what you see online may not be what they are serving when you get there. Overall, still a great place, get there 30 minutes before opening to get a spot, otherwise, be prepared to wait 1 hour before seating.

Yelp
Awesome brunch spot in Montreal... would definitely come here again, whenever back in town. Food: Mushroom Toast - 5/5 I ordered the mushroom toast, and everyone at my table looked at it with admiration as it arrived at the table. Did I share a few bites? Yes... but did I want to? No. Just kidding, but it really is that good if you like mushrooms.. don't think twice! Pancakes - 4/5 - I really liked these, but I did think these were a little overhyped, wouldn't necessarily get it again with the mushroom toast as a different option on the menu.. the party I was with did all really like them though. Service - 5/5 - The waiter we had, I believe an Indian man, was so patient and helpful. Our table was quite rowdy in the restaurant, ordering shots during brunch and being loud, but he was so patient, kind, and helpful... hats off to this guy for dealing with all of us, haha. Ambiance - 4/5 - Nice atmosphere, and we got a round table, which was nice because we were all able to face each other and chat... it actually made a big difference, because I was meeting some people for the first time here, and I noticed that key difference with ease of socializing. Overall, great place!

Yelp
Look for the red lower case text on the window only. The glass entrance is just inside of the doors. The lemon ricotta pancakes look good. It's a narrow dining area. Seats to the booth are narrow, especially with winter down coats on. Or maybe we gained some weight this trip from all of the pastries and carbs? Some pastry at the cafe counter. Long dining area, small menu. Ordered oat milk latte, ricotta pancakes with added garnish, apples, mascarpone and pecans, granola, buttermilk fried chix sandwich and zesty salad. C$95.40 The ricotta pancake isn't bad, sweetness overload, but expected with all that's going on. The zesty salad is okay, quite a bit of textures and flavors, not sure it's what I was hoping for as far as zesty goes. Wasn't super excited to eat it after a bite or two, not so much. The plate had a chip on it. :/ The Chix sandwich was good, the chicken was crunchy, had to take one layer of chicken off of it to actually be able to bite into the sandwich though. I liked the apple remoulade and the chimichurri sauce. The chicken was nice and tender. The fried egg was a nice addition to the sandwich. Service was good during our visit.

Yelp
I recently enjoyed a delightful brunch and it exceeded all my expectations. The menu offered a fantastic range of options, and the food was both visually appealing and delicious. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which was generously portioned with crispy, flavorful chicken topped with a perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg. The combination of the crunchy chicken, fresh slaw, and soft brioche bun created a harmony of textures and tastes that was truly satisfying. The side of roasted potatoes was equally impressive, with a crispy exterior and fluffy interior, complemented by a rich dipping sauce. The avocado toast was another highlight, featuring ripe, creamy avocado slices on a toasted slice of sourdough, adorned with a sprinkle of everything seasoning. The fresh, vibrant salad on the side added a refreshing burst of flavor, balancing the richness of the dish. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, with attentive service that made the experience even more enjoyable. Whether you're looking for a hearty meal or something light and fresh, this has something for everyone. I will definitely be returning for another taste of their delicious offerings!

Yelp
Visited Dandy based on all the reviews we saw prior to coming to Montreal, I have to say it was definitely worth braving the icy winter streets! The food tastes fresh and delicious. I wish I tried the lemon ricotta pancakes but I was feeling more savory than sweet the day we came. The restaurant was also very instagram aesthetic, which is great if you like that sort of vibe.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for breakfast last weekend. We showed up about 5 minutes after it opened. We were seated and served quickly which was nice. The place was busy but the servers were attentive. Our food was good and reasonably priced. Only thing I would say is that there was quite a long line outside when we were leaving, and while the food was good I wouldn't say it is worth waiting more than 20 minutes for.
google avatar

Melody C.

Yelp
Who knew that this brunch spot was so popular? My party of 7 got here bright and early, but there was already a line around the block! The wait took a while, but the food was really good. Several people in my group decided on the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich and really liked it. Though I didn't taste it, I was drooling at how good it looked with the fried egg and runny yolk. I enjoyed my pasta; the shape of the noodles is pretty uncommon, and it was so saucy. The amount of greens in the dish made me feel healthy. The table got the ricotta pancakes and fingerling potatoes to share. The potatoes were just ok but the pancakes were yum. The interior is also really beautiful.

Yelp
Loved everything on the menu. We tried one of everything. The coffee was also very good. It's a tight space but the service was good and it's very cute inside.
google avatar

PJ D.

Yelp
Such a cute brunch spot! Expect long waits, especially on weekends! The Ricotta Pancakes with Seasonal Strawberries is a must. One of the best pancake dishes i've ever had! I wish I could buy bottles of their brown butter maple syrup. Service is very slow though, my friend and I went in very hungry so maybe that skewed our perception of time but we waited a LONG time for a server to come to us, take our order, get our food, and take our check so just plan for a long morning.
google avatar

Yelp
Dandy has been on my list for a while, it is a nice spot for brunch and coffee. I ordered a cold brew and a cookie for a quick pick me up. The cold brew was somewhat small in comparison to other coffee places but the taste was great, so no complaints. The cookie on the other hand was a bit big for just one person but I guess it was made for sharing. The place is beautiful and could be a nice date spot, the lamps had a really good ambiance and the mirrors make the place look really big. If you are in the Old Port, give it a look!

Liam K.

Yelp
Great service, great food, all around great restaurant. Only had to wait a few minutes for a table which was a nice surprise. Servers were attentive and friendly with all of them pitching in at each other's tables, which is nice to see. Food was incredible, had the pasta with squash and sausage and the ricotta pancakes. Both were hits. The side of potatoes were perfectly cooked and crispy. Definitely recommend for brunch if you're in Montreal.
google avatar

Yelp
A lively vibe inside and out. We wanted to grab lunch and were quickly seated inside, where the noise level was fairly high. The menu is limited but there is enough choice -- I had the lovely shrimp coquette in the photo. The service was swift and friendly.

Yelp
My second time coming back and definitely many more . The food was delicious, service was immaculate and efficient and the place is super cute and cozy.
google avatar

Yelp
The staff was absolutely amazing and pastries/pie was to die for... but the breakfast food honestly was a bit of a letdown. We ordered the endless summer breakfast.. and our group felt it should've been a bit heartier for the price.. it didn't come with any meat and only one egg... the saving grace was the staff, the pancakes and the presentation
google avatar

Sugunthan S.

Yelp
Amazing ! Customer service was amazing. The ambiance was amazing as well as the layout. I tried the Ricotta Pancakes. The combination of maple brown butter sauce and lemon cream was unique and delicious. The endless summer breakfast was delicious and fresh. The customer service was great, I will be revisiting Dandy.
google avatar

Yelp
We've come back time and time again here. The pancakes are tasteful and filling. The menu is limited so not many options so I recommend taking a look before coming here. The potato wedges are really good and the drinks are delicious. Parking is street parking it's not too bad but the link does get long right before they open but they are efficient with getting people in and out. Service is great and food comes out quick.
google avatar

Andell R.

Yelp
Cool spot for brunch. Visiting from America and easily noticed the difference in overall service. For my first time trying this spot my expectations were high. While I didn't fully enjoy the experience but I didn't hate it either. One wait staff seemed quite impatient especially at a time where it wasn't busy. One less star for their attitude. Other than that great prices and delicious food.
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
This adorable little cafe/diner was a perfect spot for brunch. My husband got the buttermilk chicken sandwich and he said it was the best one he's ever had. I had the ricotta pancakes which were scrumptious - the brown butter maple syrup was heavenly. Our server was friendly and attentive as were all the staff. Make sure you get there before they open as the line gets quite long!
google avatar

Yelp
The perfect breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot in the heart of Montreal We Tried: Ricotta Pancakes $18.99 Endless Summer Breakfast $22.99 Crispy Smashed Fingerling Potatoes $7.99 Iced Latte Iced Tea The service and food were both great. The endless summer breakfast has avocado on sourdough toast, fried egg, house tzatziki, heirloom tomato, cucumber and charred pepper salad, currents and dukkah. The flavours were 10/10 . Make sure to also order the smashed potatoes as it comes with a delicious aioli sauce We went on a weekday and the restaurant was packed but there was no wait time. But when we passed by the restaurant on Saturday at 11:30am it was packed and there was a line going around the block!
google avatar

Matt A.

Yelp
We finally got around to trying @dandy.mtl to see if it lived up to the hype. They don't take reservations but we only waited about 15 minutes at 10:45am, not too bad. We were served extremely quickly and ordered delicious, satisfying, Ricotta Pancakes covered in luscious syrup and the buttermik fried chicken sandwich featuring some of the best crispy, delectable fried chicken we've ever had. We washed this down with a delightful maple latté. We finished and were driving home by 11:30am. We don't eat slow but, while everything was excellent (service included), we did feel the overall atmosphere is fast paced and a little rushed. Personally, the opposite of the feeling we want on a Sunday morning but food-wise, yes, it does live up to the hype.
google avatar

Jesika H.

Yelp
I came for the chicken sandwich and it did NOT disappoint! My only issue, lets make sure it's cooked throughly, i had a feeling very pink parts that I just pulled off! The crispy ness was legit the best part besides the flavor! It came with no side and was happy once I seen the side of potatoes at another table, way too much for one person! Had their chai latte, just average. The wait time, abysmal! It took so long several people left. I had nothing but time so I waited. Now customer service was fantastic! The place was packed but I was in and out in no time!
google avatar

Brad S.

Yelp
Friendly service and a patio that sits on the street. The menu is limited but a good selection of dishes. The portions are pretty big. I had the chicken sandwich and eating it was a bit of a challenge.
google avatar

Terrance G.

Yelp
Came here for brunch in Montreal on our last full day in town. We were greeted immediately and seated. It's not an overly large place but we walked in and got that table quickly. They don't have an overly large menu but all of the options we had were delicious. I has the chicken sandwich and it was cooked very well. The place isn't overly loud and was easy to converse with our entire table of 4 people.
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
My wife and I loved this place. Right by our hotel and Notre Dame there was always a line. Limited menu but she had Endless Summer with lots of fresh vegetables she ordered it twice. I had ricotta pancakes. They were thicker than I like but great maple syrup, apple bits and candied pecans. Wow. Next visit I had buttermilk fried chicken on brioche bun. Big hit too. Great place. Kinda hip, kinda expensive. Worth it
google avatar

Sasi M.

Yelp
This came up in my searches as a top spot for brunch. And it did not disappoint. The menu is pretty short, but each one is a hit. Friendly waiters, tasty food and an overall great experience. The looks like it might get crowded on weekends, so might be good to plan accordingly.
google avatar

Afshan H.

Yelp
There was a bit of a wait but the food was delicious. This was the best London fog I've ever had. The salmon toast has this amazing creamy cheese and the ricotta pancakes were delicious. A must visit if you're in Montreal - it's right around the corner from notre dame and across the street from the Westin (back entrance) which was really convenient.

Erin A.

Yelp
Be prepared to wait in line. We decided to sit outside and it was just barely warm enough. Service was good. Food outstanding. Ricotta brown butter pancakes and chicken biscuit with fried egg for the win. The chai latte was a bit weak but good nonetheless. Beware: coffee refills are not free. Our coffee, special taxes and tip cost more than our combined entrees.

Alexia W.

Yelp
Spectacular food, service, and ambiance! Don't skip out on the maple latte and the maple butter tart (not pictured). Favorite food of our whole trip.
google avatar

G G.

Yelp
Wait.. was around an hour. We did get there around 10 am. Service was great Food.. we had fried chicken sandwich, endless summer breakfast the Market salad and ricotta pancakes. To drink I had white wine and hubby the St.Germain drink. Everything was great! Would def recommend and will be coming back. Ambiance was excellent
google avatar

Sharon H.

Yelp
Nice spot for a brunch. Service was excellent, food was good! We had the Endless Summer Breakfast which was a nice medley with sourdough, fried egg, avocado, and sauteed tomatoes. Ricotta pancakes were super soft and fluffy. The maple brown butter syrup was a bit too rich for me, so the bottom pancake was a bit too sweet.
google avatar

Risa H.

Yelp
Really cute brunch spot my friend found near her hotel! The vibe inside is cute and hip, servers are all friendly. The food is good here - I tried the Endless Summer dish, and it had a sourdough piece of bread with avocado and a fried egg, along with a tomato-cucumber salad with a dill tzatziki underneath. Such a good simple healthy breakfast!
google avatar

Cassady H.

Yelp
This is one of the best meals I've had on my trip here! Small space but they make it work. Everything came out quickly and it was all phenomenal! I had the ricotta pancakes with seasonal strawberries and a passion fruit lemonade. The strawberries were amazing and so fresh! The pancakes were fluffy and flavorful and the lemonade was amazing. Best lemonade I've ever had hands down, tart but not too tart. Service was friendly and helpful. We got some maple tarts to-go and they were perfect. Absolutely a must eat. This whole experience was well worth every cent, if your near here don't even debate it and just come in!
google avatar

Rashawna L.

Yelp
Delicious and well worth the wait. We waited for about 45 mins for a 4 top. We got the chicken sandwich, pasta and ricotta pancakes. Everything was yummy and tasty!
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Charming cafe for breakfast and lunch. Do yourself a favor and make this place your go-to while in Montreal. Staff are incredibly pleasant and food is up with the best I've had! Do not pass on the maple latte or avocado toast! The mix of heirloom tomatoes and the perfectly cooked egg makes this next level!

Reginald L.

Yelp
Great food and amazing service. Food tasted fresh and was delicious. Recommend the pancakes and chicken sandwich
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Ooooh wow I'd take another international flight for this place alone. Ricotta pancakes in a maple syrup/brown butter sauce with more fresh creamy butter, with a slightly creamy tang between the ricotta and the butter. Also tasted the chicken sandwich, which was crunchy, tender, flavorful, a little tangy sweet from an apple slaw, on a lovely brioche bun. The pasties look spectacular too--got one for later. Service was very pleasant. Will be back.
google avatar

Sana K.

Yelp
Came on Saturday afternoon and there was a line out the door. No reservations taken. Last came out to ask inside or outside. We chose whatever was faster. Glad we did because we were seated right away outside. The weather was perfect for outdoor seating. Sun was coming out there was a slight breeze. Ordered the pasta and the flavor was so good.

Yelp
AWESOME BRUNCH SPOT IN THE HEART OF OLD MONTREAL!!! This place wasn't part of the dining plan for our Québec trip. We walked by Dandy everyday and their long lineup drew our attention. After reading others' review, we decided to give it a try, and it was another pleasant surprise! I started with a glass of Mimosa. It's so refreshing and is such a perfect drink for breakfast/brunch. (Side note - I was on vacation so I suppose it's OK to drink 24/7 ) Overall food quality is excellent. We ordered a few items to share: - Ricotta Pancakes: it has a balanced texture (i.e. not "flooded" by maple syrup) and the amount of strawberries on top is quite generous. - Endless Summer Breakfast: the avocado is the highlight, and the sesame / dried grape on top made a huge pleasant difference! I should have ordered another half avocado on the side!!! - Viva la Pasta: I feel this dish is a bit too heavy for breakfast, although that's just my personal preference. It's definitely an awesome pasta with complex flavors. Since the lineup tends to be quite long, I'd suggest getting there on a weekday morning about 10 min before they open. Then the wait time should be manageable.
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
This spot was highly recommended to me by a friend, and it certainly lived up to the hype. I came by on a Saturday morning, and a decent queue had formed shortly after opening. After about 45 mins, we were seated. The interior is cozy, modern, and with a decent amount of seating. We got the following: - Ricotta pancakes - Mushroom toast - Crispy smashed fingerling potatoes The ricotta pancakes were so fluffy and the butter maple sauce did not feel too heavy or overpowering. We got the additional garnish and the addition of pear and nut crumble to the dish made it that much better. I liked the variety and quantity of mushrooms on the toast and it was certainly well put together. The potatoes were crispy and included a nice aioli sauce. Overall, this was a great brunch and would certainly keep this on the list my next time here! For the best experience try to come early, and on a weekday to minimize the wait.
google avatar

Theresa L.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place because it was near our hotel. Wow. The fried chicken sandwich was BOMB! Food and service were amazing! Wish we were in Montreal longer to try other things on their menu!
google avatar

Alfredo M.

Yelp
Good food and great location. They only open from 10am to 4pm and they do not take reservations.
google avatar

Randy C.

Yelp
Great brunch spot! Definitely a must-do for weekend brunch! Service was excellent and food outstanding!
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
Came here for brunch with a friend and as soon as we got outside there was a line to get in. (Good sign? I think so) We waited for about 30-35 mins on line to get in and it was SOOOO WORTH IT. I'll be thinking about the meal at Dandy forever. The service was super quick and our waitress was extremely attentive and made sure to check on us often. I got a mimosa and a St. Germain spritz and both were *chefs kiss* The champagne to OJ ratio for the mimosa was perfect. While I had my eye on the ricotta pancakes, I opted to go with the fried chicken sandwich. We love a good runny egg so I also added that to my sandwich. This was honestly one of the best chicken sandwiches i've ever had. The meat was so tender and literally melted in my mouth. The chicken was crispy and packed with flavor. It was also v lightly breaded so you don't have to worry about feeling weighed down like most fried foods make you feel.
google avatar

Emma G.

Yelp
The food at Dandy was impeccable. My partner got a chicken sandwich (for breakfast!!?) and I got the ricotta pancakes. Every single item on the menu looked delicious and while surprised at his choice for a chicken sandwich, almost every table around us had one! The service was quick, friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. The location of Dandy is cute and close to the Basilica and never got too crowded when we arrived for an earlier breakfast! When the food arrived, it was plated beautifully. The pancakes were outstanding and I really think the brown butter maple syrup was the reason why! There's nothing quite like it and now I can't have normal syrup without wishing it was Dandy's. The chicken sandwich was insane -- juicy, crispy and packed with flavor. We wanted to go back for every day we were in Montreal.
google avatar

Harper F.

Yelp
Dandy's was SLAMMED on a Sunday morning. We noticed this place because there were so many people waiting in line -- for good reason! The food is delicious. I couldn't decide between the ricotta pancakes and the avocado toast meal so I got both. The ricotta pancakes were fluffy and cooked to perfection. The brown sugar maple sauce is unique and super sweet. I really liked the toppings on the avocado toast meal. You could order anything on the menu at Dandy's and you couldn't go wrong. Now I see what all of the hype was about! Check it out for yourself.
google avatar

Zinabe A.

Yelp
The place is nice and service and ambiance was great. I highly recommend the Greek yogurt.
google avatar

Rhen P.

Yelp
I went into this expecting to wait in a long story, and I was right. However, I was surprised that the wait went by quickly. The reviews and TikTok's all said to try the pancakes, and I can confirm that they are completely right: They're SO good, and are worth the wait. Cozy Space, Good Pancakes? I've got no complaints. If you have the option, I'd maybe wait for a weekday to come in and try them, as the lines may be shorter.
google avatar

Jen F.

Yelp
I stopped in for lunch and it was pretty crowded which I took as a good sign. It's a cute spot with fun vibe. Based on the reviews, I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich with Fried Egg. It was pretty good - What makes this sandwich so delicious is actually the brioche bun and delicious coleslaw The fried chicken itself was just ok - but all together it does make a good sandwich :)
google avatar

Judy T.

Yelp
The restaurant menu is quite small, but good selection. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and side salad. The brioche bun was so soft and tasty. The fried chicken was very flavorful, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The crispness of the chicken was just right, not overly crunchy or soft. The relish inside the sandwich was crisp and fresh, a great combination. I would recommend this sandwich and salad.
google avatar

Deb F.

Yelp
Found this little gem in Yelp and it is close to our hotel, Le Westin. We saw a young couple next to us her their food and it looked really good so we ordered the same with a side salad. The salad was taken back to the hotel because we were too full to eat it. The pancakes were the best my husband has ever had and the same statement was made by the young lady next to us. I got a taste and they were really good with a maple type of sauce that the pancakes sat in. The chicken sandwich was very light. I don't know how to explain it. It was delicious and I would definitely get it again. I ate half and shared with my husband. The combination of the lightly breaded chicken on the bun with a fried over easy egg on top can't be beat. Th salad had ample pecans with mixed green and lightly dressed. It was enjoyed a few hours later. Service was friendly and excellent also. I don't give out 4 stars easily but this restaurant deserves it, hands down!
