Daniel et Denise Créqui

"Joseph Viola, Best Craftsman of France, reigns over this dyed-in-the-wool, patina-aged bolthole, oozing in authenticity. Patriotic line-up of Gallic recipes, high-flying technique (calf’s head, quenelle of pike) founded on superlative ingredients with an eye on the seasons. His signature dish is a “porkpie” of sweetbread and foie gras – to die for!" - Michelin Inspector

I have absolutely no words for this... We went there a few months ago and waiting for about 30ish minutes even with a reservation. The wait was absolutely worth it! We were 2 people and had been eating our way around Lyon. We opted to just have a main course that already comes with an incredible Mac and Cheese like dish as well as some incredibly crispy roasted potatoes. I saw someone having the lamb and instantly knew that that's what I wanted. It's meant to feed 2 people, but between that and the side dishes, it could honestly have fed 3 people... The lamb fell apart. It was tender, flavourful, succulent and just mind-blowing in my opinion... One the the owners walked in and asked if we were having a good time. I froze, looked her dead in the eyes and said: "I think I could cry right now". She gave me a pat on the shoulder and we laughed about how food can make people feel. I genuinely recommend you give it a try if you're in town.

The Le Pâté en croûte is amazing! In the La Cervelle de veau, I think the flavor is nice but the steel container gives a iron-blood smell, which is not appealing to me. La tête de veau cuite au court bouillon is very nice with different texture of meat and full of meat flavour. I personally think it might be even better with some extra spicy leaves or herbs. Because then, there is some impactful feeling in addition to the long while modest meat flavour.

The service staff is extremely accommodating even though we came late as walk-ins. The food is amazing and they even recommended the wine pairing for our appetizer and mains. The Holstein beef fillet in cognac sauce is particularly spectacular. Definitely a must try if you’re visiting Lyon.

The food was like a feast. For entree we chose pate en croute and lyonnaise salad. Pate en croute was really nice and the oignon sauce was on point. For the main courses, we ate the most tender and balanced meats. And all the dishes come with a crispy potato and gratin with duck fat, they were a nice touch of a side. For the dessert, the creme brule was really light and nicely presented. I tried la Baba, and if you like alcoholic desserts, you should try it. The cream was fresh and the cake was full of cognac, really nice. The waiter was so nice and polite, she helped me with my broken french. And the timing of the dishes was on point also. Full of local people also so you should try this experience in Lyon with superb food.

It was an amazing experience from the beginning! The waitress knew everything about the menu and helped us a lot! We had Quenelle and beef shoulder, they were fantastic. 5 out of 5 to everything! Must visit!

Everything we ate here was amazing! The steak au pouvre was especially delicious. The service was top notch. The free pasta bechamel and duck fat fries were a very nice touch. It exceeded my expectations.

Big expectations, great name, ended up with food poisoning. Went for dinner, very tensed atmosphere from the beginning without many guests around, the sommelier was probably having a bad day but her presence was quite stressful and she kept spilling our wine on the table. We could speak both French and English, chose the wine ourselves and didn’t really bother her or the staff to get this attitude. The rest of the staff was great, although I felt bad for them as they seemed stressed. Food was unfortunately underwhelming, but the worst is that and my dining partner got food poisoning from one of the dishes. Someone next to me said ‘I’m glad I’m hungry’, which sums up the whole experience perfectly. The wine list was great, which is the only good thing about the whole experience. We also chose this place especially because the main chef with the many awards usually cooks at this location. It’s the type of place that will always get customers because of its name, but if you’re reading this, maybe invest your money into smaller businesses and restaurants that will really show you why Lyon is the food capital of France.

In addition to its regular menu, there is a daily menu available with more options to choose from. It’s a very touristy spot but a nice place to experience local Lyon cuisine. Reservations are a must. The food is traditional and well-prepared. However, they don’t ask about the doneness of the duck, so it was quite undercooked. Make sure to mention your preference if you order it. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming.
