The Best Bagels in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"Palms’ Daniel’s Bagels is a neighborhood go-to for loose bagels and straightforward sandwiches. Don’t expect an egg-topped sandwich or anything too intricate here. Instead, the shop sells loose bagels and bagels topped with cream cheese — that’s it. Where Daniel’s finds its creativity is in its bagels and spreads, with past versions including chile crispy schmear, white chocolate cranberry bagels, and raspberry cream cheese." - Mona Holmes

LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"Life comes at you fast: Daniel’s started as an at-home bagel delivery service during the pandemic, which grew into a popular farmers market stand, which has now grown into a brick-and-mortar shop in Palms with a short and sweet menu. There are eight hand-rolled bagels to choose from, including classic sesame and everything and less conventional flavors like rosemary and chocolate chip, plus a selection of housemade cream cheeses." - sylvio martins

Picked up some bagels yesterday morning for the clinic. First time here - pretty good experience! Limited parking; establishment space is small-moderate but high-ceilings, modern, clean. The curly dark-haired guy w/ glasses who helped me at the counter was super friendly and courteous - so thank you! Uh the bagels and cream cheese here are bomb diggity, simply said. Will definitely be back for more chocolate chip and rosemary bagels!

Google
Best bagels I’ve ever had! My fav is their Everything Bagel but I love the Rosemary too. Everyone is always super friendly and service is quick. They also have coffee (I have yet to try any drinks here) but it’s nice you can get it all in one place and don’t have to make a second stop at a cafe if you really don’t want to or don’t have the time. I can’t believe they only have one location. I’m so lucky it’s just down the street from me! Maybe Palms’ best kept secret 🤫

Google
I went right when it opened and was able to get my bagel quickly. The employee was friendly and attentive. The bagels are a smaller size than your typical bagel but it still filled me up. If you don't want to get a single bagel with cream cheese, you can get 3 in a pack for a deal. I got the rosemary and lox cream cheese bagel. It was delicious! The Lox cream cheese is only pieces of smoked Salmon with cream cheese. So don't expect it to be like a regular Lox bagel. I would definitely get what I had again. The bagel was crispy on the outside but soft in the inside. The rosemary paired nice with the cream cheese Lox and every bite was delicious. Their coffee isn't too bad, but don't expect it to be like a batista. It's a simple brewed coffee that you can add cream and sugar. They do have sitting so you can eat there, or you can take it to go!

If you haven’t tried Daniel’s Bagels yet, what are you even doing??? But seriously they make the best bagels, hands down. My partner and I always have to remind each other to slow down while eating them because we scarf them down so fast 😂 they’re big, soft, perfectly made, and delicious. The cream cheese is great too! Daniel’s also often mixes up flavors or specialty items, and sometimes has other small businesses do pop-ups in the shop. Daniel and all of his employees are so nice, too! Definitely stop by here if you haven’t yet. You’ll be hooked immediately and not stop thinking about these bagels, lol!

Google
Best bagels in LA, I don't say this lightly. They have rotating specials that are worth coming back for every time. They are always baked fresh, sometimes you don't need it toasted because it's so fresh. They don't have sandwich options like other bagels spots but really I don't care because the bagels stand on their own. As they should! If you love and appreciate the bagel on its own, this is the spot for you. Schmear is also top notch. I run in as soon as the chili crisp cream cheese is back in the rotation.

Google
Lovely bagel eatery truly created out of love for the art, taste and texture of delicious bagels. We learned that he uses three different dough bases for the different types. Rosemary was our favorite. Chocolate was pretty good and everything topped was good. Service is excellent and friendly and the setting is fun with the baking area behind glass so one could watch the magic.

Google
After hearing and seeing a lot about this place, we really wanted to try it out as we are looking for a new good bagel place. The first time we tried to come was an hour before closing and they were sold out. This time we came a bit earlier - there was no line and no wait. We were able to park in the parking in the front. Employees were super nice and very helpful answering all our questions. We took 2 bagels to eat there. They only have cream cheese (plain, scallions and lox). We liked it so much, we got some for the house with their cream cheese. We’ll definitely be back.

Daniel’s bagels recently opened it first location in Palms, literally down the street from me and I couldn’t be more excited. We came in around 10AM on a Saturday and the shop was filled with eager patrons. There was a pop-up barista, serving various lattes, etc. The upbeat music and friendly chatter definitely made it a vibe. We asked for our bagels to be prepared so after maybe 5 or 10 minutes, our fresh bagels were ready. These bagels are everything as advertised, you can tell that they were made freshly in house. The outside is crunchy and buttery in the inside is dense, yet fluffy. The homemade cream cheese is wonderfully lightly salted and add a nice contrast to the richness of the bagel. Overall, the bagels and vibes are a 10 out of 10. Next time we might take a couple to go and just prepare them ourselves but nonetheless, it was still a great first experience. We look forward to walking over again very soon!

Yelp
Picking "the best" bagel shop is very much like picking the best pizza place, or the best BBQ. Everyone has an opinion, and they almost never align from one to the next. However, I am willing to plant the flag and say that Daniel's are the best bagels in LA. They are always the perfect consistency - chewy on the inside and just enough crips on the outside. They also do not skimp on the toppings. Sesame seed bagel? They're ALL over the bagel. Chocolate chip bagel? The best dessert for breakfast you can have. Their house-made cream cheese is also awesome - great lightly whipped texture and no artificial flavors. It's both a blessing and a curse that it's a three-block walk from my apartment. Everyone there is always friendly, and I really appreciate all the smiles.

Yelp
Daniel's Bagels is a cute neighborhood bagel spot located in a tiny plaza in Palms. They also host a 3rd party pop up coffee/matcha business called Cute Mensch Coffee that was here when I came on a Sunday mid-morning. Parking in the plaza is very limited but as it's next to a small side street, you can also find free street parking there. My friend who took me here has mentioned they are famous for their rosemary bagels, but by approximately 10:15 AM on a Sunday, they were already sold out so do come early if that's what you're interested in. Everything bagel w/ lox spread 4/5, this was a soft, fresh, and doughy bagel. The lox spread was plentiful though I would have preferred more lox pieces inside and if the everything topping (seasoning?) adhered better to the bagel top as much of it would come sliding off once a bite was taken A Matcha Made in Heaven 5/5, one of the strongest matchas I've ever tried, though I didn't taste pistachio this wasn't any issue for me, I also loved the strawberry crème top and dried strawberries this came with. Though this is only available through Cute Mensch Coffee, I definitely hope to see them again here. UPDATE: Came back on a Friday mid-morning (approx 11 am) and rosemary bagels were in stock! I got 3 bagels for $8 (2 rosemary + 1 everything). I do think this is a bit pricy for 3 bagels but you're paying for freshly made bakery bagels at a shop so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Rosemary bagel 5/5, ok totally understand why this is popular here. This is soft and doughy like the everything but the rosemary topping just adds an extra oomph.

Yelp
Amazing service- Daniels bagels feels like a "regular's" regular spot. I stopped by on a whim for some bagels and everyone at this shop was so welcoming! I brought back 4 bagels and all their cream cheese flavors- my favorites were the rosemary bagel and scallion cream cheese, but they were all great. They also had a seasonal hot cocoa bar that I loved. Easily the highlight of my morning!

Yelp
I recently discovered a Fabulous new bagel shop, Daniel's that will quickly become my go-to spot for gorgeous bagels! From the moment I walked in, the aroma of freshly baked bagels filled the air in this super fab space!! I decided to try their toasted everything bagel, and it did not disappoint. It was perfectly baked with a crispy exterior and a fluffy, yummy interior, loaded with a generous sprinkle of seasonings that added the perfect balance of flavors. The real star of the show, however, was the lox smear. Creamy and rich, it was infused with just the right amount of deliciousness. The combination was truly gorgeous! Daniel's cousin is a charmer, super friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. The chill, modern and gorgeously decorated vibe of the shop makes it a great place to relax with a cup of coffee alongside your bagel. If you're a bagel lover, try this new spot. Their everything bagels and lox smear are hands down some of the best I've ever tasted!

Yelp
Probably the best bagels I've had in LA! They were still warm when I brought them back home. The inner texture was both chewy and fluffy at the same time, even when I had one a day later. The crust had the perfect bite, and the toppings were plentiful. I wouldn't say they're exactly like NYC bagels (I've tried them all), but they're really great in their own way. My favorite was the rosemary, but the sesame and everything were super yummy as well. Scallion cream cheese was fresh and soft, and paired nicely with all three bagels I got. These aren't cheap at $8 for 3 bagels, but at this quality, I'm not complaining. Service was super friendly, and love that there's ample parking out front. They also serve Groundwork brewed coffee, decaf too!

Yelp
The bagels are delicious and staff is super friendly and welcoming! My daughter loves to get bagels bc they are so sweet!

Yelp
What's not to love about this place? family owned and staffed by the friendliest people. All the bagels and cream cheeses have been delicious. It is unique and unlike other bagel places which really sets it apart.

Maria A.

Yelp
These bagels are truly next level. I find myself driving out of the way multiple times a week to get them. These are the best bagels on the Westside with a special shoutout to the rosemary, blueberry and jalapeño cheddar..: every time I settle on a 'favorite' I try a new one and it takes its place. Five stars all around for a very friendly staff both at this location and the playa farmers market and always a great experience in general. Thank you for raising the bar for LA bagels and adding more flavor to my mornings!
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
I just cannot say enough good things about Daniel's bagels. We used to get them from the playa vista farmers market and were so excited when they opened up the street. Bagels are delicious, always friendly service and we love supporting a local business. Def our go to bagel spot. My husband loves the rosemary, it's so unique! None of the flavors disappoint. Go!!!

Yelp
I'm really glad I got to try Daniel's bagels today because I have a feeling it will be much more crowded next year. I'm always looking for a good local bagel shop where the bagels are fresh and not overly chewy. I thought the everything bagel tasted great with the scallion cream cheese. I also tried a warm chocolate chip bagel and it did not disappoint. I have to say they also did a good job with the ambiance of the shop as it used to be Scoops ice cream, which was much more sterile. Good job, Daniel!
google avatar

Taz G.

Yelp
Dropped by during their soft launch (when they weren't cutting bagels yet), and picked up three onion bagels. I'll cut to the chase... HOLY CRAP, THAT WAS GOOD! Nice solid crust, dense and chewy inside, and a flavor that reminded me of New York -- slightly sour, slightly sweet. On top of that, it toasted up perfectly. I've had my fair share of good bagels (Bagel Broker comes to mind), and truly awful bagels such as the round rolls pretending to be bagels sold at Noah's. I can confidently say that the onion bagels at Daniel's are among of the best I've had in Los Angeles.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
Damn. That's a really good bagel. The dough is just right: the outside is almost crispy and the inside is airy while also filling. Reminds me of deep-dish pizza dough without being greasy. Staff is cheery. Playlist is energetic -- literally had me dancing in line. Cool aesthetic.

Trinie G.

Yelp
This place is down the street from us. Picked up some everything bagels today for homemade avocado toast. Delicious! Fresh! Soft & doughy inside. Will definitely be back!

Caroline Z.

Yelp
I love Daniel's Bagels!! Their bagels are nothing short of perfection--crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Whether you're in the mood for a classic everything bagel or something more adventurous like their seasonal bagels and cream cheeses, every bite is a treat. What truly makes this place special, though, is Daniel, the owner. His passion for baking is evident in every bagel, and his warm, welcoming personality makes every visit feel like you're stopping by a friend's house. Daniel goes above and beyond to make sure every customer feels like family, always ready with a friendly smile and the perfect recommendation. It's clear he takes immense pride in his shop, and his dedication shines through in both the food and the experience.

Yelp
Actually the best bagels in Los Angeles. I just moved from NYC and missed the quality of a good boiled bagel, there is no where else where you can get a bagel with a smile + great conversation like this here. The store is precious and has ample parking - making it the easiest weekend trip. I literally look forward to the weekend exclusively for my morning bagel trips. Yes they sell out, but that is a testament to how incredible these bagels are + extra special that you can grab them from the farmers market. Daniel + team are killing it - can't wait to continue supporting our fav local business.
google avatar

Julia P.

Yelp
Daniel Daniel Daniel... thank you. I began having these bagels at the farmers market and was overjoyed when they opened a shop. The rosemary salt bagel changed my life
google avatar

Sarah N.

Yelp
Daniel's bagels is truly the only place you should get bagels in the area. The staff is always lovely and the bagel quality is unparalleled. I get a three pack of everything or sesame bagels and a plain or scallion cream cheese every Saturday morning and always look forward to it!
google avatar

CeCe G.

Yelp
Okay let me first start by saying I'm not a huge bagel fan probably because I have never had one like this! This was truly the BEST bagel ( everything with cream cheese) that I have ever had. From the first bite of the crunch to the soft center I was sold! Will definitely go back - and for whoever reads this you will not be disappointed. A must try!!
google avatar

Adam W.

Yelp
Friendly new entrant to the buzzing La Bagel scene. These bagels are somewhat smaller in thie style of layla. In other words, they are on the chewier side. This presents a bit of a challenge you like your bagels un toasted like I do. The Rosemary flavor was delicate and very nice. Highly recommend.
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
We were there Sunday an hour before stated closing time. Were greeted by a locked door bearing a sign that said they had closed and "See you tomorrow". As this business is only open 3 days a week, "tomorrow" is next Friday. People have said the bagels are good here and, despite the unbelievably high price for their bagels (2 to 3Xs that of other local shops) we thought we'd give them a shot as they are just up the block. For a business only open 15 hours a week, getting there at the beginning of hour 14 and finding them closed was a real disappointment. Screen shot taken upon arriving at home after the disappointment. They ought to have still been "open" for at least another hal f hour.

Bobby B.

Yelp
If someone told me this was a sesame pretzel, I'd think it was pretty good. As a bagel, it just doesn't cut it. The flavor is too sweet for one thing. Their cream cheese is the highlight. A healthy spread of scallion cream cheese almost makes me believe I'm eating a bagel.
google avatar

Lauren F.

Yelp
This is bad..... How close I live and how good these bagels are are a dangerous combination. I tried the salt, rosemary, and onion and all were *chefs kiss*. I laughed out loud how good they were. They got served literally fresh out the oven and because I live 5 steps away I had to resist the urge to burn my mouth. Everyone there was so kind and helpful and overall great vibes. Guarantee you'll love these bagels and if you don't maybe you just don't like bagels ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
google avatar

Neela H.

Yelp
So happy to have a bagel shop that uses quality ingredients in Palms! I tried these bagels at the Mar Vista market and loved them. Finally visited the brick and mortar and was not disappointed. Friendly staff too! A rosemary bagel (fresh out of oven) + scallion cream cheese = my perfect Saturday. Welcome to the best hood in LA, Daniel's!

Kendra S.

Yelp
Nicest guy working there!!! Really helpful and professional. You could tell he really cared about the customer experience.
google avatar

Jane M.

Yelp
Daniel's Bagels is the best bagel spot in LA! I come here at least once a week after my morning walk with my pug. I usually get my bagel toasted with cream cheese, but these bagels are so phenomenal you can have it plain and just dip them in the cream cheese. 10/10 recommend !! Also the staff is absolutely amazing. They're extremely friendly and gave us an extra bagel bc some seasoning fell off. It's the attention to detail that makes Daniel's so incredible!
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
The correct bagel texture and flavor. They also have vegan cream cheese. Walked in there today and quickly got a few to try out. I'm originally from New York and will be back with the family
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
This is a weird business model. After a pretty steep price for a plain bagel, you have to pick your own cream cheese out of the refrigerator and you have to cut the bagel yourself. They do not cut it for you, but only put it in a bag. As a person that works in a field, my hands may not be the cleanest to cut the bagel and put cream cheese on it. I mean after all why not just go to a big supermarket and pay 3 times less for equal service? One nice thing about this place is the guys that work there are very nice. Who ever designed this business model must be so far away from the real world. Wake up! BTW, giving every customer a plastic container with cream cheese and plastic knife isn't very healthy for this planet.
google avatar

Anthony G.

Yelp
I received a friendly greeting "Welcome In!" and the man behind the counter took the time to talk me through what they had. I ordered a single toasted salt bagel with scallion cream cheese. It cost $6.50 (yes, you read that right). Yes, the bagel was delicious: crispy outside and soft inside, probably one of the better bagels I've had. But at that price, I'll rarely be back.
google avatar

Karen N.

Yelp
Always searching for a new bagel place, and I'm so happy to have come across Daniel's Bagels at the Brentwood Farmer's market! I'm usually an Everything bagel, but trust me when I say, their Chocolate bagel will make you want to eat a second! Will be back to get another 3pack order of chocolate , and try other savory flavors!
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
I was just happy to have a bagel shop in my neighborhood, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the bagels are. I tried the sesame first, but I especially loved the chocolate chip one! I can't stop talking about them. Great cream cheese. The service is so friendly too! I ended up going back twice in one weekend.
google avatar

Lane R.

Yelp
Daniel's rosemary bagel is my favorite bagel in LA. All the staff is super friendly and the bagels are so fresh and warm. 10/10
google avatar

Liam H.

Yelp
We walked in and were told they "do not believe in" slicing, toasting, or shmearing - they believe in the "tear and dip method," which means we were served our mini bagels at room temp in a bag. Like bffr, that's lazy. We thought the bagels were subpar for the price, we ended up warming them in our toaster oven at home. I do love bagels so I'm still happy with any bagels I get, but my partner and I decided we would continue to go to our normal shop, despite Daniel's proximity to us.

Yelp
I was nervous to try their lox cream cheese but OMG I'm in love. Will be coming back!

Yelp
Some of the best bagels in Los Angeles. Service is all extremely friendly, and the ambiance makes you feel more comfortable than anywhere else I've been.

Ryan G.

Yelp
was so excited to see a local bagel place open up! Went early saturday morning, the inside is so cute. I've never had Daniels bagels at a farmers markets so this was my first time trying them. They were great! I love the rip and dip style. Met Daniel, he was very nice. Really hope they do well :)

Doug S.

Yelp
In my quest to find the perfect bagel I spied this boutique store recently opened on Overland Boulevard. Dropped by on a Weekend morning and ordered a half dozen. What you don't offer poppyseed bagels??? Minus 1. I found their bagels to be reasonably good. $15 a half dozen is kind of high. I liked the rosemary, though I got a small piece of stem in mine, which wasn't so pleasant. The salted bagel was interesting. I have to say that my taste buds did perk up when I ate it. Plain was well ...plain tasting. Overall Daniel's Bagels gives bagel lovers another option on the West Side. Will I be back? Maybe when they start to offer poppyseed bagels.
google avatar

Andrew R.

Yelp
Great bagels but really expensive. Hoping prices come down and some crucial features are added (toaster, bagel sandwich preparation, etc.) once they're open full time and not just in their current "soft opening" status.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Amazing bagels!!! Perfect chewiness and texture. You order bagels and spreads - we got the rosemary, everything, and chocolate chip with the plain and scallion spreads. My favorites were the rosemary with scallion spread and chocolate chip with the plain spread. Soooo delicious! And very reasonably priced too! I just had it and I want to go back tomorrow, that's how good it was Everyone working there was super friendly, and there is free and easy parking!

Hannah C.

Yelp
Really impressed with both the bagels and the service! I had the salt bagel with the weekly special cream cheese (scallion chili crisp -- soooo good please keep this on the menu!!) The outside of the bagel was perfectly crunchy and the inside is the fluffy kind of chewy. Flaky sea salt on top is perfection. My boyfriend wanted the everything bagel but they were still baking, so he got sesame instead. It was also delicious and he had zero complaints, but as we were leaving the everything bagels came out fresh from the oven -- and they threw in a free one for us. So nice, really above and beyond! We will come back to try the rosemary bagel for sure.
google avatar

Sheri M.

Yelp
Hands down, the best bagels we've ever had. Slightly smaller than normal (which I loved because it eliminated the feeling of being too full afterwards), full of flavor, and the texture/consistency was SPOT ON. We love a small business that brings excellence to its trade!
google avatar

Tania T.

Yelp
I figured I'd check this spot out and I'm glad I did. It's exactly what a bagel should be, whipped cream cheese is delicious too. I was apprehensive at first.. given that it's just bagels..no sandwich options but the bagel speaks for itself. 10/10

Maya S.

Yelp
Service was fantastic and I know this is not the fault of the employees, but there are no toppings offered for bagels besides cream cheese which I find honestly ridiculous. Bagels looked delicious, but I refrained from ordering because I anticipated having toppings. You would get MANY more customers with a topping selection!

Traci F.

Yelp
What a great addition to the neighborhood! Went to the soft opening today. These bagels are delicious. They are light and airy. We tried several bagels. The everything, rosemary and salt were all excellent. The young man that owns the business was so friendly and those that were working at the store were very helpful. I would definitely go back again. So glad to have such yummy bagels so close by!

Jill F.

Yelp
I went today to the soft opening of this new bagel shop. I met Daniel and his family and they were lovely and welcoming. The bagels were amazing and some were even warm, fresh from the oven! The cream cheese was excellent as well. I am excited to have a new wonderful addition to the neighborhood.

Bosscloss ..

Yelp
Been going here almost weekly for a couple months. The bagels are tremendous. Cooking then fresh and hot all day. The people here are even better. 5 stars.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
Daniel's bagels is 10/10! I am a picky New Yorker and think these are some of the best in LA. I began buying Daniel's bagels at the farmers market about a year ago, and am so glad they've opened a shop. Get the rosemary bagel - it is so unique and outstanding. The rip-and-dip model reminds me of Pop Up Bagels in NYC, which is one of the hottest spots of the year. Go to Daniel's bagels!
google avatar

Adrien H.

Yelp
Perfectly fresh bagels. Clean and spacious I indoor seating. Fast and friendly service

Derick G.

Yelp
Exceptionally tasty smear (cream cheese) as per every shop...too much. Everything seasoning was fire but I needed a lot more. Definitely will be back!
