The Best Places to Eat and Drink on Haight Street in the Lower Haight Neighborhood | Eater SF

"This quintessential Irish pub opens early for those who want to watch international soccer games, hosts weekly trivia nights, and is also home base for Seattle Seahawks fans during football season. There are plenty of HDTVs, a full bar, and though food isn’t served, you can bring in anything you’d like from outside. Plus, if it’s not too crowded, you can bring in your pup to keep you company." - Paolo Bicchieri

I’m pretty sure we stumbled into this place due to a wrong turn but it ended up being a great find! There were TVs in each direction with different football (soccer) games playing. We were just there for a drink before continuing our sightseeing but the bartender was happy to have a good chat. Overall it was a great atmosphere.

Google
I was travelling and needed somewhere to catch the United game. Danny Coyles was a great little pub. It had about 5 or 6 TVs showing the United, Spurs and Rangers Europa league games (1pm kick off in San Francisco). Locals were probably 60/40 in favour of Spurs to United fans but it didn't make a difference. They don't serve food, but the barman said you're welcome to bring in food from other places (there's a great little Persian place next door).

Google
Amber is up there in the top 5 best female bartenders in SF. I've been going to the pub since, I was underage, shhh!!! I honestly never paid attention to the name of the pub, it might have changed names & owners a few x since I was 13. Lol... In any case, great service, class Irish pub atmosphere & in the heart of the Haight District. I've followed Amber throughout the years because, she's a class A bartender.

Google
Danny Coyles is an EPIC pub and has fantastic atmosphere for sports. We have an awesome community of Manchester United fans and matches are a blast! Highly recommend coming here to play pool, darts, trivia, watch a match or just enjoy a pint with your pals!

Google
My soccer team (SF Hibernian F.C.) and I come to Danny’s every Sunday after our match. Great beers, great bartenders, and great vibes.

Google
Great pub. Welcomed with open arms each and every time we’re here

Google
Great place to watch football. Multiple games shown throughout. If you’re a Seahawks fan, this is the place to be, Go Hawks!! Friendly and fun atmosphere. Food can be ordered from nearby businesses and brought in to watch the game.

Yelp
Absolute Class Joint!!! The Wife- "Cleanest bathrooms" Game sucked because Man Utd is trash... but the environment was so fun!
google avatar

Yelp
Came in for the UFC fight and the place was packed. $10 cover - no biggie. But ONE BARTENDER and he is awesome but overwhelmed by the crowd and the fact that he is serving AND cleaning up glasses while dozens wait for drinks. Whoever owns this place needs to give the bartender a huge raise and hire at least another person or two for nights like this. Again - great bartender - but the owners need to spend more to serve better
google avatar

Yelp
Great ambiance for watching sports! Beer selection was good. At the time of me being there, chips were the only snack option. But it was a wide variety!

Yelp
Great place to get a few scoops. Great crowd, pool table. Very friendly staff especially young Evan took great care of us.

Yelp
It's not easy finding a sports bar that will play tennis, but Danny Coyle's fits the bill! A friend called ahead to see if they would play the Indian Wells men's final one Sunday (as he had had trouble watching the semifinals at other bars the day before on Saturday) and Danny Coyle's accommodated us, even letting us put it on the big TV! This was a big deal because it was March Madness season, and there were quite a few college basketball fans trickling in (especially Creighton at the time.) Service was perfect, very friendly and helpful and jokey. I like how they have three bathrooms. The decor is fun--I'll be back to watch soccer with my brother. Looks like it's the spot to watch Man U and Premier League. The pool table is also fun--be careful so you don't get hit by a cue. Would recommend the Bloody Mary as well--I forgot to say don't put in too much vodka (hey, it was a Sunday afternoon and I had to bike home!) and the amount of alcohol was perfect. There's parklets outside and a nice bike rack so you can drink and ride and watch your bike. I'll be back and will tell friends and relatives about it as well :) I'll also try to make it back for Wednesday night trivia one week!

Yelp
GREAT SF BAR!! First off, there are still a large contingent of Seahawks fans gathering here for every game. A fun friendly bunch - lots of high fives when the going is good. Irish Bar with lots of TVs and lots of NFL fans. They also tune in lots of US & Intl soccer/football. Friendly & efficient. Super clean. Great neighborhood. No food but they let you order in - Otra next door is great.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
Good spot to get a tasty pint of beer and watch a game! Wish they had a food menu, but they let you bring in food.
google avatar

Brando M.

Yelp
This is an awesome sports pub and the owner is a great guy and super friendly. On a sunny day the front windows are open and the ambiance is perfect. There's also a parklet with plenty of seating if you'd prefer to be outside. The best part is, this is an Official Manchester United bar and match days are a blast! Welcoming to all fans, but especially Man Utd fans! Come sing a few chants, have a pint and meet some new friends while we cheer on our Reds to victory! GGMU!!
google avatar

Anand V.

Yelp
This is now an official Manchester United Supporters Pub. Had so much fun here the other weekend. A bunch of fans gather here for every game and the atmosphere is electric! They chant, they sing, they drink. This is the best place to watch live games if you're a soccer fan. Loads of HDTVs, pool tables, darts and Guinness on draught. Brian, the owner, is a great guy and is also a United supporter. If you're a United supporter too, join them: http://linktr.ee/redarmysf

Yelp
The best soccer bar in San Francisco, and therefore the best soccer bar in the universe. COYS!

Yelp
Hell yes. Danny Coyle's is the absolute spot if you want to watch early morning Premier League games. Me and a few folks went early on a Sunday morning around 8 am to grab a seat for the United vs. Arsenal game a few weeks back. The game had an 8:30 am kickoff time and we grabbed a bar table right next to the largest projector screen. It was relatively light inside the bar around 8 but come a few minutes before kickoff time, the bar was absolutely jam packed - shoulder-to-shoulder stuff. We grabbed a few beers and shouted our lungs out when United scored each time, there were proper supporters there too singing United songs and adding to the atmosphere. The crowd was just great to be in and I would come back any time to catch a game or just to grab a beer or drink and hang out with friends. If you haven't been to Danny Coyle's, please drop by! You won't regret it!

Yelp
Danny Coyle's is a very fun and young bar to go to. I often try to go on Wednesday nights to participate in their Trivia Night. Trivia Night usually gets pretty crowded, so it's wise to get there at least half an hour before trivia starts at 8:00PM. Trivia Night also usually gets pretty loud, so if that's not your scene it might not be the activity for you. I sometimes have trouble even hearing the questions. The Trivia is also pretty slow, so you should definitely carve out at least 2 and a half hours to participate for the whole thing. This is however, ideal if you want to drink and talk between questions. The prizes, however, are definitely worth it, usually ranging from drinks to entire pitchers for your team! The drinks are solid, and the staff is kind. It's the perfect place to have a little but of a rowdier Wednesday night competing with your friends.

Yelp
My first day-drinking sojourn in 15 months and it was fantastic. The sun was shining and there was no wind. If this was a sign of better days ahead, I am optimistic. A few buddies and I knocked back several pints of Stella while catching. I hadn't seen one friend in years so it was great to drink some cold beer and a warm, SF day. Our server was on pointe with making sure our beers kept coming. This is a great spot to remember that life is better spent outdoors.

Yelp
90% of a bar is the Bar not the drinks, but this place has the Drinks and the bartenders to boot. The staff is incredibly friendly and good craic!!! They are all friendly, plenty of TVs to watch what ever match, fight, game or contest that is televised, a Pool table and many beers on taps, every bartender knows how to serve a pint of Guinness properly. And if you can ask Brian to make you something different like a Greyhound.... This place is so amazing my wife and I had our Wedding Reception there and it was the best night ever!!!!
google avatar

Alana B.

Yelp
I love this place my local neighbor bar. Hayden is the best bartender looking out for me and my cousin the moment we stepped in. The best service and making sure we were safe. Hayden also makes the best Irish coffees and I would trust him with my life!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're a Manchester United fan looking for a great spot to catch a game, look no further than this sports pub! As an official Manchester United bar, this place is the ultimate destination for fans looking to enjoy a match with like-minded supporters. From the moment you walk in the door, you can feel the energy and excitement in the air. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. There's plenty of beer on tap, including some great local brews as well as some international favorites. But what really sets this pub apart is the sense of community you'll find here. Whether you're a lifelong United supporter or just getting into the game, you'll be welcomed with open arms and a pint of your favorite brew. And when the game is on, there's nothing quite like cheering on your team with a room full of fellow fans - it's an experience you won't forget. Overall, I highly recommend this sports pub for anyone looking for a great spot to catch a game. Whether you're a die-hard United fan or just looking for a fun place to hang out with friends, you'll find everything you need here. So come on down, grab a pint, and let's cheer on the Red Devils together!

Yelp
It is RED again! Since now and forever Come there for Manchester United matches and find new friends

Yelp
Great little dive bar in lower haight. We live close by and usually come here or Nick's for a drink or games. Great spot!

Yelp
Here's to coming back strong, your amazing trivia nights on Wednesday, a bartender who refused to make a red headed slut (respect lol) and to putting up with all the Gen-Z trivia teams that didn't buy any drinks (I weep for your generation, i really do). Been coming for years, great for EPL and Dubs games, and a solid pool table.

Alex O.

Yelp
Cover charge for the UFC event was only ten bucks. TVs were everywhere. Drinks were cold and fairly priced. Irish dude watching the door offered my fiance his chair so she could sit comfortably. I have no shortage of good things to say about this place. Really want to watch the next PPV here. Thank you to all the staff here, great service, I will be back ASAP.

Kayla R.

Yelp
I'm not one to leave bad reviews, especially for local businesses- but my group had a horrible, horrible experience at this bar. The bartender got into a fight with someone and our group helped de-escalate the situation by sending that person home. Then the bartender retaliated by selecting random people in our group and very rudely kicking them out. One member was forced to leave without his credit card and when he returned the following morning to retrieve it, found the bartender had charged the card exorbitant amounts and refused to return the card. Very, very unprofessional and a huge bummer as we all live in the neighborhood and will never go back to this bar.

Dominic W.

Yelp
Great spot to watch Manchester United games - official pub of the San Francisco Red Army! Brian is a great bartender!

Dominic W.

Yelp
great spot to watch the Manchester United games with the SF Red Army supporters group! Bryan, the owner, is a great guy. good beer, good vibes. worth checking out.

Yelp
Amazing place to hang and build community! The owners are awesome and it's one of our favorite places to go.
google avatar

Brody R.

Yelp
It's always a green flag when the person outside checking IDs is cracking jokes with you before going inside! Saturday night was packed and everyone there turned out to be super friendly. The best part, the men's bathrooms are clean and spacious.
google avatar

Grant B.

Yelp
Everything you need to watch a game. Gets a hit crowded if you're looking to catch a fight or a big match, just get there early if you do so. Great beer selection, cocktails are mid and priced that way. But a bar like Danny Coyle's is about the people you're there with, which luckily for me are always fantastic.
google avatar

Dan S.

Yelp
I was in town for hardly strictly bluegrass and wanted to catch an NFL game first thing on Sunday before we headed out again for music. Danny Coyle's was conveniently located near the Metro Hotel where we were staying. The bartender who I am assuming was also the owner was friendly and graciously put my game on the TV that was directly in front of me even though nobody else was there to watch my team. He served us up a couple of tasty bloody Mary's to get us fired up for the game. It was a nice mix of locals and out-of-towners in for some Sunday sports. The bar was clean, the drinks were great and everybody had a great time. Nice establishment, I will be back.
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
The best bar in SF. Unbelievable staff, drinks, and locals. It is a great spot to watch any sporting event. A must go to
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
Good neighborhood pub. Brian Coyle, son of Danny, may be your bartender. Great service. Lots of regulars. It's far enough from the upper Haight that you don't have many tourists. A pool table. More than a dozen beers on tap.
google avatar

Ahana D.

Yelp
Watched a Manchester United Game here (United City Derby) and man it was something else!!! So many fans and the atmosphere was electric! Bar Service was good too and it was PACKED! Would love to be back to come watch other games here :)
google avatar

Yelp
Danny Coyle's is a great spot for catching a game or hanging out with a group of friends. The bar is pretty spacious with ample seating, good drinks, and 3 restrooms. The bartenders are really nice so that's always a plus. I ordered an Irish coffee and the bartender offered to make a fresh pot of coffee since it was 10pm and they didn't have any coffee at the time. I love the smell of fresh brewed coffee (they use Peet's) so gladly obliged to wait 10 mins for my Irish coffee which was delicious! Saturday night was a good crowd.. there's a jukebox so different types of music was playing all night. Our group of 10 had a great time hanging out at Danny Coyle's. Definitely a low-key, laid bar to head back to in the near future. Cash is king but if you prefer plastic then it's minimum of $20 for credit card.

Yelp
Who knew there was a Chargers bar in SF... well, not me. We came up to the city to visit some friends who were in town for SD. I told my bf we should get there early bc it would probably be busy...he scoffed and said there aren't "that" many chargers fans in SF... WRONG This place was PACKED with Chargers fans, it was unreal. The bartenders were AMAZING, dealing with huge crowds, drunk fans, and just the madness of a packed bar. The prices were typical for a bar in SF. If you're a Chargers fan place is for YOU!
google avatar

Aditya C.

Yelp
Love going to Irish bars. Gavin is a great bar tender, made retry awesome drinks. They have a juke box, pay for the songs you wanna hear.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
I'd like to say that I know the history of this place and that I may have even had a hand in some of it, a very small one (Tecate tower... *cough, cough*), but a hand none the less. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a Charger bar. Sure Seahawks fans now also call it home with their recent successes, but years before a #12 jersey ever walked through the front door of Danny Coyle's it was all blue and gold. No, it hasn't always been an American football bar and before pigskin ruled supreme the bills were paid by early morning football... the European kind (soccer to us). I've never been here to watch a soccer match but the staff remains the same and will kindly serve you up a stiff cocktail, a sharp shot or if you're a Charger fan, a Tecate of course. Food? Nope. Bring your own. They're happy to let you post up with some grub from any of the local haunts and they've even been known to pass you a tray of Oreo cookies if you're sitting empty handed. Nice, nice folks with nothing but love for all... even if you root for a silly team.
google avatar

Ron V.

Yelp
Danny Coyle's was a cool spot. The atmosphere was fun. The service was fast and friendly and the bartenders were on top of service. They have many TVs so that you will never miss a game. This is a great local spot with a friendly crowd. They have a full bar with beers on tap and bottles.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome bar. Friendly staff. Fun. Great music and ambiance! It's so close to us and we'll be back!
google avatar

Josh Giosue D.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! We actually came in due to the fact that we had 30 mins to kill. Once we were in, I felt as if I was in Ireland, sooo many Irish people and so friendly. We ended up getting 2 hot toddies (which we never had), pure delicousness, Irish whiskey, lemon, hot water and voila. We also got an Irish whiskey shot and a tecate for $6, how could anyone pass up on that deal? I highly recommend this place if you're in the area, great people, great vibe and if you're lucky enough you'll get to see the bar tender leave the bar and go smoke with the regulars or just whoever is smoking outside :) Ps: they stream lots of soccer :), and I also found out that they but boxing ppv at times. Can't wait to come here and have a proper Irish coffee next time. Cheers!!!

Nicholas G.

Yelp
I'm normally a fan of divey bars with friendly staff, cheap drinks and good eats. This spot misses a few of those features. Walking in, it felt like my partner and I were interrupting a conversation that never quite recovered (there were only a couple people in the bar). I enjoy chatting with regulars, but no love that night. I was also a bit annoyed by how long it took to receive our drinks. The bartender even stopped making them to tell a lengthy story to a person nearby. I was sitting right in front of him the whole time. Come on, fella. If you're looking for a spot to watch the game, this is the spot for you. Late night dwellers looking for ambiance and mellow conversation, seek additional options.

Yelp
OMG! BEST BAR EVER! Always a great time at Danny Coyle's . we always come here whenever we have friends in town.
google avatar

Lillian B.

Yelp
Fun and clean sports bar with tons of TVs and a projector screen. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. There's a $20 minimum for card purchases. They don't serve food here but you're welcome to bring your own, which is nice! My boyfriend is a huge Seahawks fan and we were happy to find a sports bar that plays their games and where he isn't the only Seahawks fan for once.
google avatar

Alyssa G.

Yelp
Great spot for pub trivia that's close to my house. Tables set up throughout the place, as well as a ton of chairs along the bar. There are about 7(?) TVs so you can take your pick in terms of sports/politics channels. Huge plus: free chips and salsa throughout the night for pub trivia! You can even pick between red, green or guacamole. Although the bartender is pretty hot, our team was a little disappointed for different reasons: he never asked if we'd like a second round of drinks (we were sitting at the bar), and he kept people waiting for drinks for a relatively long time. I kept glancing over at him not only because he was cute, but because I was parched dammit! 1 Newcastle + 1 coke = $7.50
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
SAN DIEGO SUPER CHARGERS!!!!! This is the place to go for your Chargers football games!!! PACKED in this place and everyone was having such a GREAT time!!! Sorry for all the CAPS but I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Can't wait to go back!! What I wouldn't give to watch a Chargers vs. Oakland game here!!! haha
google avatar

Meg W.

Yelp
It's a brightly lit, very clean Irish pub. You read that right.
google avatar

Jerome Z.

Yelp
Recently moved to the neighborhood, but have been coming to Danny Coyle's for years now. This is definitely my favorite bar in the city, given the great atmosphere, friendly bartenders/owners, and game day environment. My friend and I are die hard Seahawk fans, and while this is primarily a Chargers bar, we've quickly grown a strong stable of Hawk fans for every Sunday. Typically, the Chargers fans get the back room (w/ projector), while we occupy the front. If you're a Seahawks fan in SF, then this is your bar!!! Oh, and who can beat the $2.50 Tecate specials on Sunday? Danny Coyle's = Best bar in the city!
google avatar

Yelp
I recently moved out of San Francisco, but this bar will always hold a place in my heart. Friendly bartenders and awesome owner Brian Coyle. It has a great atmosphere, tons of TV's and amazing bartenders. Gavin makes amazing drinks and is super attentive even when its crazy busy! Its hard to have just 1 drink when you go in there, the patrons are super friendly and warm. Great place for groups in the back of the bar. Thanks for all the great nights. xoxo Farah

Yelp
Continuing my crawl down Haight in pursuit of the "Soused" badge, we ended up here. Decent little bar, had the pub vibe, but it was a total sausage fest on a Tuesday night. Good beer selection, sports on the tellys, soccer and the Giants playing. Kind of a small joint, and relatively crowded early, so we didn't stay for very long. Would check it out again, but hoping the male:female ratio is a bit better for the next visit.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Great Spot! Must go to when in SF. The bartenders are top notch, great atmosphere. Best selection of suds. Great crowd! Good for watching PL Football also. Check it Out. Pull up a seat. COYS!!
google avatar

Yelp
Served the purpose for me to watch the NY Giants game.Good set up with a lot of TV's and they maximize their space in not the biggest location. Like my Yelp homey Rachael S said, it seems to bring some fratatellos d-bags but you'll pretty much get that at every sports bar in some way or another. In between drinking my cold $5 Stellas I had to overhear some insecure ex state school bros talk about their "stories" from last night about "sniping bj's" and "bagging but titty babes." I would have thought this is normal had they not been 35. Still a cool spot in a cool neighborhood to watch a game. Cons: don't serve food which really sucked but they let you bring in stuff. There is Katz's bagels and pizza right across the way. Also-not sure if this is a pro or a con but I saw at least 4 dogs in there. Is this an SF thing? Kinda cool.

Yelp
Ryan is the greatest dude that I've ever met not saying that because he's my neighbor I'm saying that because he's the greatest bartender in hospitality man right now
