The 14 Best Hoagies In Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"The Italian hoagie at Dan’s Food Market is a meat lover's dream. The bread is crispy on the outside, squishable on the inside, and topped with a salty, hefty blend of salami, prosciutto, and provolone. Every sandwich at this Kensington shop is a hearty one, packed with generous amounts of everything you decide to throw in. This means there’s plenty for lunch, and lunch 2.0." - alison kessler, candis mclean

The Best Hoagies in Philly | Eater Philly

"Owner Daniel Tocci Jr. has been building hoagies in this Frankford Avenue corner store since 1949, and it’s a local favorite for a reason. The menu includes all the hits but those in the know go straight for the Italian with everything on it." - Dayna Evans

Google
Great place to pickup delicious hot meat-filled sandwiches and a $5 northwest day pass. Perfect one-stop shop for a hike to Colchuck Lake! Everyone working at this food market is super friendly, welcoming, and proactively helpful.

Google
Amazing local store. It has everything you need and more! Don’t shop elsewhere. You can also save money by eating from their deli, which has a ton of options for breakfast and lunch. Delightful employees as well!

Google
One must stop and go back to the deli and order a custom made deli sandwich. They have order forms and pencils by the counter. What a treat! The sandwich was amazing! All of this and chips for $6.99. We also picked up some deviled egg potatoes salad which was amazing. Such a treat and a great market to shop. Make this place famous by just spending some time and your money. Very worth the time and effort.

We love Dan's! We come to Leavenworth a couple times a year to visit and now we always stop here instead of going to Safeway. We like shopping local and this place has everything we need and more. We especially like to visit the bakery in the morning and we've been interested in trying out their deli sandwiches too.

Timothy Zetterwall

Google
Dan's is the only place we shop while camping in Leavenworth. We stay away from Safeway and support all local businesses. Dan also carries Home fries bakery products and they are fantastic! Everything we have tried is excellent! Also check out Dan's weekly ads and compare with Safeway Dan's is better or close to their best prices, so shop Dan's and be a part of the community in Leavenworth!

Google
Friendly, hometown feel, where customers are valued and treated as an individual, not a number. The employees seem happy as though they are treated well which says a lot. Much rather support a local business.

Google
My experience at the deli was delightful. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. This was my first time making my sandwich so I obviously had many questions. All of them got answered & I left satisfied. To make things better the sandwich was so good and tasty.

Google
Prices are higher than Safeway. Both cashier and manager were rude after making a $220 purchase. Cashier said payment was not processed when payment had clearly been charged to account. Dont waste your time. Just go to Safeway.

Neve C.

Yelp
They had everything we needed! The workers were lovely as well, can't leave town without stopping at dans

Yelp
We LOVE Dan's! It is not only one of the prettiest and friendliest grocery stores, it is also local and has local area fresh foods. Try their deli sandwiches made to order. So delicious! We love to go pick up fresh greens, local salsa, fresh made breads and pies, beautiful produce. The meat section has local Angus beef perfect for a BBQ. They have their own large selection of spice blends that we enjoy perusing and trying out. The employees always welcome you in and have a smile on their face. They seem genuinely interested in what you are planning on making or what you are doing in town that day. It's refreshing and inviting. I hope Dan's stays around a long time. It is one of my favorite parts of what makes Leavenworth such a special town.

Yelp
Alright, so overall grocery store is probably like 3 stars. I was hoping to find more local foods but it's a pretty cramped and small store and some of the meats were turning brown. The deli section also looked limited but I saw a few peeps getting $6.99 custom sandwiches. It's nothing special but if you just want a cheap lunch and a regular sandwich there you go. I didn't try the fried chicken but it looked okay. The real star winner is the bakery section. That's why I give it 4 stars. The molasses walnut oatmeal cookie is SOOO good and it's less than $3!!! So much better than the other bakeries around Leavenworth which is more like a tourist trap. They also sell fresh baked bread. We bought a rosemary loaf and they sliced it for us too with the machine slicer. They also have strawberry rhubarb pies and diff fruit pies, chocolate croissants, almond claws, maple bars etc!!!!

Yelp
Love this place. It saved one of our family meals when everyone had different opinions for food (tell me which parent will be happy to eat in McDonald when you have so many options to eat the food you usually not gonna find in your local areas?) anyways, we ended up eating in the little food area in the back of the supermarket. The hot sub was delicious, and kids were satisfied with their corn dogs and potato wedges. It is super easy, just go to the counter to talk to one of the ladies about today's special(s). They will make awesome sandwiches for you. Of course you can find local beers if you miss the chance to visit the popular beer houses; and ordinary snacks if kids are getting stubborn for their "kid's foods". Highly recommended during the family trips.

Yelp
I enjoyed Dan's market. While our short stay in Levanstone we came here almost every day for coffee and dinner. They have warm food, soups, cols sandwiches and you can also do some grocery shopping. The bakery is also good. Lots of variety on pastries and bread.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in town! Really nice people, and made to order sandwiches here are my fave!

Margaret O.

Yelp
Best market! Has great produce meat fruit and has a deli! Only thing I would say is cashiers aren't very friendly.
google avatar

Kevin D.

Yelp
Hands-down, the best place to get your food and groceries in Leavenworth. Don't even mess around with going up to Safeway unless you want the cheap gas. This place has everything you could find there and so much more including a formidable deli section with fried goods, salads, prepared food, food for floats and much much more. Not to mention the store is always super clean and front faced and the staff is always really sweet. Parking is easy here as well.

Yelp
Dan's is a convenient local market right in Leavenworth. Sure, there is a Safeway right down the street, but when you want local, friendly service in a more condensed space - Dan's is here. This is the top thing about Dan's - the convenience. If you happen to just be in town or staying nearby you can likely walk in and get what you need. In my case visits here are beer and some other essential. I don't want to be tempted by the supermarket displays to buy more so Dan's is good for that, Just about everything you need into a nice convenience store. If you did have to do a full shop here, and I'm sure some do - it's all here - meat, produce, bakery, household needs, alcohol and more. The staff are all very friendly at Dan's. Each time I've come here the cashiers are nice and anyone walking around the store are helpful. If you're need of something and want an alternative to the Safeway, Dan's Market is just down the road.

Yelp
This place has everything and more! You can walk here from the downtown action to get groceries, fresh fruit/produce, drinks, snow gear, medicine and toiletries. They have you covered.
google avatar

Joe W.

Yelp
Amazing customer service! Great prices. People are so friendly. Wish they were where I live.

Marcel B.

Yelp
The nicest people ever! They have the best bakery and deli, I wish I would have taken pictures of our sandwiches. We went back twice. They were so good. Big selection of everything you could want, they also have homemade kombacha made with honey, The lavender honey was so good.
google avatar

Arlene C.

Yelp
I absolutely love Dan. For a small as a community we are, they have a great selection of everything. If you haven't done so, you have to go to the back of the store and see the bakery. During the holidays, I order several pies ahead of time to deliver to my clients. They absolutely love it!

Taylor C.

Yelp
The BEST place we've eaten at in Leavenworth. We've paid for the overpriced food at local restaurants our whole trip, only to find out the best gem was hidden in the back of dans deli. Not only was the food great, it was cheap, fresh, and fast! Got a huge sandwich for 6.99 and because it was Wednesday we got free chips and a drink with it too. But the best part was how kind the deli staff was. I it was like being at home and mom was taking care of you for lunch. One of the ladies saw us eyeballing the food items for a while, and insisted we try a sample of some of the fresh pickles and the onion rings too. I can't say enough great things about this experience, I just wish we didn't live 2,500 miles away!
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
We love this place! The deli (all the way in the back) is a hidden gem. Hot food, including fried chicken, fries, corn dogs etc. are an easy and affordable family lunch. We spent $28 (including a small delicious fresh pie) for a family of four and had leftovers. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Marisa H.

Yelp
Surprised by all the good reviews? Maybe it's just because I'm from New York, but this place seriously doesn't have much! It seemed like it held fresh produce from the reviews but it was more like a convenient store with all of its frozen food. Not saying this place is necessarily bad, but there isn't anything special or good about this place. They didn't even have instant ramen!
google avatar

Yelp
There are two big grocery plays in town, and since we were staying near the Icicle Road end of Leavenworth, Dan's was our go-to for items we had either forgotten, or found ourselves needing, or wanted to grab for some reason during our multi-day stay here. It's bigger than you think in there, though definitely not as big as the big chain at the other end. But it still has all the things you need--deli, bakery, produce, you get the picture. We needed a few things on our trip--ibuprofen, limes, water--the essentials. So we came here and I wanted to give an extra shoutout to the dude running the register. He was super friendly and was giving us a hard time (in the friendly way) but still helped us find the stuff we needed and get us on our way. Feels good to shop with the littler guy.
google avatar

Terry H.

Yelp
Delicious alternatives to brats & beer all over the rest of this town which has sadly become sort of "touristy, cheesey". Clean & clearly organized market, abundant fresh veggies, with a wonderful bakery and deli in the back of the store.
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
What a cool market! Several older buildings meshed into one, which means every time you turn a corner, there is more to see. Very well stocked, neat and people are friendly.
google avatar

Arleen E.

Yelp
We go to Leavenworth at least twice a year and do our grocery shopping at Safeway. On this trip, we learned about Dan's. This local grocery store has everything you need from fresh produce to meats to toiletries to deli items to baked goods and so on. We were surprised to see their huge selection of wines and liquor, too. The food market is small so try not to knock over their goods! During the busy season, a trip to Dan's should be a quick in and out. Oh, they don't allow shopping carts to be taken out of the store so if you're going alone but shopping for a family, bring someone with you to help carry your groceries to your car. They have ample parking and the store is clean and staff are friendly.
google avatar

Jamieleigh W.

Yelp
Really happy with this store for our quick weekend trip here. We were able to grab everything we needed to make a great meal at our air bnb. Lovely selection!

Yelp
As a family that comes to Leavenworth 3-4 times a year, we know the town pretty well at this point. Maybe as not as well as a local, but pretty darn close. :) A couple years ago we were talking to a local about how over we were of the town's Safeway because it gets SO BUSY during tourist season (aka real bad in the winter) and they suggested that we go to Dan's instead. So we did! Ditch Safeway, SUPPORT DAN'S. Sure, it's much smaller, but they've got a HUGE selection for all grocery needs and then some! Prices are comparable to other grocery stores. My husband is actually an ASD FOR SAFEWAY.... And we still come here despite getting his discounts at Safeway. Ha! Everytime we're in here he comments on how well the store is put together and how he wants to hire their entire staff and take them back to his store. This last time, we tried some things from their deli (the baked beans and potato salad) and they were both delicious! My husband really loved the baked beans - they had a really nice smoky flavor to them. We'll continue to support Dan's during our stays in Leavenworth. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Warning: Not COVID-Safe! I stopped in here to buy some supplies before a camping trip. Although a statewide mask mandate is in effect, multiple customers were walking around un-masked, in defiance of the store policy, which was posted on the front door. When I asked the cashier whether they enforce the store's mask policy, she replied that "We don't harass our customers, or kick anybody out for being un-masked. Our boss wouldn't like that one bit." When I mentioned that this lack of enforcement makes other customers uncomfortable, she demanded to know whether I was a local. Anyone who isn't, it seems, just doesn't matter in this store. If you're looking for a business that follows Washington public health law, or want to avoid COVID in general, DO NOT shop here.

Osiris M.

Yelp
Love this place and their custom sandwiches. Prices are great, selection is huge and great produce!! The bakery and deli staff is superb and create a pleasant experience. Would give this place a 10/10 if i had better customer service at the checkout. Many times while visiting I have had a similar experience with a older gal at the front, she is unpleasant to checkout with due to her demeanor. Would appear as if I am inconveniencing her by coming through her line or asking a question. I've noticed myself avoiding her line when doing my grocery runs and the only negative thing I can say about Dan's market
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
Dan's food market makes the best homemade sandwiches! Great price and friendly service.
google avatar

Val C.

Yelp
We went in to grab a toothbrush and were thoroughly surprised by the size and variety available at this store. Every time we turned there was another well stocked section with a great variety. We were so pleasantly surprised!
google avatar

Crystal D.

Yelp
I was really surprised upon entering Dan's to see how many products they have! We perused the aisles for a long time finding some real treasures. Check out the picture of the largest mango I've ever seen! I also purchased some sourdough bread and olive bread which are amazingly delicious. I was very pleased to see some fair trade chocolate which I also purchased. Their produce looked so fresh! The only reason I didn't give five stars is because one of the cashiers consistently wore her mask under her nose. She also didn't seem very welcoming in her demeanor. It seemed customers who wore their masks under their nose, went to her line, and everyone else went to the other gal, who was very warm and welcoming. Also, I had wanted to buy a pie as I'd heard wonderful things, but they didn't have any at the time. Definitely on my list for the next time we travel through though!
google avatar

Daniel V.

Yelp
Great market for a small town. Had everything we needed including some organic items.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
I am on both sides of the mountains conducting real estate as usual and doing my thing this is always one of my go to grocery stores fully stocked with fresh produce and one of the best bakeries and chicken strips in town And there's always a place to park it is a person that actually grew up here even though I'm in Bellevue most of the time it still feels very local
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
Dan's Food Market was a last minute, last resort for us during the late night when we had the munchies. There's not much healthy snacks, but there were tons of wine and beer. We didn't have a kitchen so we couldn't buy any of the frozen meats or vegetables. The prices aren't the best in the area so if you can, drive a little further to Safeway instead. Still not a bad grocery store overall though.
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
I want to Dans in early May and I got a trail cookie that was amazing. I told several people how good it was. But after going 2 weeks later it was terrible I don't know if they changed the baker or what but it is not the same cookie very disappointed as were a few of the people that went and got the cookie after I told them how good it was. Hopefully they bring back the original recipe because the new one is not good at all. The cookie was Bland and had way too many sesame seeds in it
google avatar

Donald G.

Yelp
FantastIc store, this rivals any upscale market in Seattle. Might be a little more expensive than Safeway up the street but lots of local offerings, bakery and deli attached.
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
So this is a tiny grocery store which had some amazing offerings. We didn't get to sample much here which was a shame but we did try their scone. I don't think I've ever had a scone with this texture before but it was delightful. That was the highlight of the trip to Leavenworth and totally unexpected. I enjoyed every bite of it and the family did too. If we had more belly real estate, we would have tried one of everything in the bakery. I cannot say much about the grocery part of the market though. I would say the bakery in the back was a must try.
google avatar

Larry L.

Yelp
Super friendly people here. Fresh veggies and fruit look delicious. We bought a Peach Blueberry pie to take home and it was one of the best pies ever. Really surprising gem of a grocery store here in town.
google avatar

Margaret S.

Yelp
Best local grocery store! Check out the bakery in the back. A great selection and great customer service.
google avatar

Susan C.

Yelp
This market looks small/medium from the outside but it's a full size grocery with everything from fresh produce to deli foods in front. Very nice staff as well. 4 instead of 5 Stars because it lacks a bakery though it does have boxed donuts and cookies. Great ice cream selection, too!
google avatar

Crista B.

Yelp
Huge selection, clean and so quaint and unique. The staff was super nice to us and our kids.

Kyle L.

Yelp
Great local market, you definitely get the small town vibe. Very friendly staff. The deli in the back is great. Fresh vegetables and the cold cuts selection is really good. You can make a custom sandwich for $6 or less.
google avatar

Alan R.

Yelp
This market is located at the end of town and has its own parking lot. At the back of the store near the bakery department, there is a deli counter that creates made to order sandwiches to go. The sandwiches are huge and only $4.99 which includes a small bag of chips and a cookie.

Halo B.

Yelp
Dabs is a great little grocery store for the community, a store people see people they know and catch up there. It's sad when every day I go to the deli the big guy with the beard is snappy with people, and making the uncomfortable. And it seems he doesn't care either.
google avatar

Yolaunda P.

Yelp
Wonderful fresh produce, the coffee shop had LOTS of sugar free options which was not something easy to find. The prices were very good
google avatar

Crystal G.

Yelp
It's little and over priced. Only go here if you absolutely have to.
google avatar

Gates B.

Yelp
Great little grocery store with friendly staff... small produce dept but decent prices and some organic stuff. The deli in the back makes good sandwiches - had a grilled Rueben today for $6.99 that was enough for two people. Friday is fried chicken day that people line up for- they gave me a chicken wing to sample and indeed was tasty, crispy, and the meat moist enough. We also found cheap frozen beef bones in the meat dept for our dog.

Christi B.

Yelp
Really cool little food market! We walked all the way to the back and got some coffee and pastries. Highly recommend the trail cookie! We hiked icicle ridge afterwards and had the trial cookie when we reached the top. It was delicious!!
google avatar

Sabrina S.

Yelp
Stopped at Dan's and I only purchased a 12-pack of soda but I was really impressed by their selection of produce and other goods. They have an amazing selection of ethnic foods/spices! Their prices seemed comparable to national grocery chains, which surprised me that a local store would be competitive that way. I guess they have to be competitive. Anyways, service was normal, prices reasonable. Would definitely go back!
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
This is a great little place. I was staying near here for my Sister-in-law's wedding and decided to stop in and check it out while wandering the town seeing the sights. I ended up having a chat with the ladies in the back where the cakes and deli are located. They were super-friendly and during our conversation mentioned the fried chicken being good. So, I ended up returning the next day and picking some up along with some sides. The sides were good and seemed very fresh and the chicken was excellent. Honestly, if I ever have occasion to be back in this area, I will make it a point to get back here for the fried chicken. Overall, a small market that, while being a bit oddly constructed, is staffed with really friendly people and houses surprisingly good food in their deli.
google avatar

Cathy R.

Yelp
Small grocery store. Great, friendly customer service, best produce in town, lots of local products, yummy fried chicken!
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
Very nice little grocery store. Prices may be a little higher but I like being able go walk there and it's closer then Safeway.

Lorna L.

Yelp
Stopped by here for some groceries while we were staying at a cabin in the area. The prices weren't bad, and the guy at the checkout was friendly and nice. He actually carried out my groceries to the car without being asked - you don't typically get service like that these days!
