Best Sandwiches in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"This longtime San Fernando Valley favorite slings sandwiches out of a tight dining room on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills. From the outside, it doesn’t look like much, but the constant flow of regulars tells a different story. The sandwich to order is the LA Street Pastrami, which comes piping hot and stuffed with pastrami, provolone, bacon, grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, chopped pickles, jalapeños, and a spicy homemade sauce. This sandwich is meant to be eaten without substitutions, so if looking to make a major swap, it may be best to look at the other pastrami options on the menu first." - Mona Holmes

Daaaammmmm Son! I’ve know about this place for a decade… and finally tried to give it a try last week. Ordered the large version of Mama Mia and Gladiator! When they handed me the bag I was like whoa! At least 4 meals worth of sandwiches. I also don’t think I had a favorite from either of them. I treated people at work, and it was a mistake even to have half a sandwich. Service was friendly, guy called himself Jack behind the counter seemed like the owner, super friendly and very open to suggestions and making friendly conversation. Highly recommend ordering ahead, even at 2pm on a Tuesday it was steady busy business. Parking is feast or famine just be patient and be good at backing up.

BRAVO!! The Gladiator jumbo size is absolute insanity. Come hungry and bring a friend! Trying to eat this sandwich is like trying to bite down on a burger that's stacked too high, full of fresh ingredients. I wish I were local, I'd be coming here all the time!

Dan’s is an institution in the valley. I grew up in Woodland Hills and have been coming here since the 80s. The quality of the food, the family friendly atmosphere, and the awesomeness that is Dan has never changed. Not one bit. Still the best sub sandwich in LA, hands down.

Excellent service! I would definitely get their Pastrami Reuben again and consider a jumbo, but the regular was more than enough for a good meal. 500 was solid. LA Street pastrami was good, but you really have to like spicy. Their bread is definitely a highlight. Looking forward to exploring more of their menu in the future!

Found this business in my recommendations on Yelp. I was nearby and decided to try. The places is popular you can tell, almost non stopping lines. I got Danny Boy Rueben - ingredients mix seemed perfect to me. The service was fast and there is an old-school dines vibes with decoration and music. A lot of celebrities visited this business so it must be good lol. The sandwich was ready in like 10 mins. The presentation was awesome - it looked juicy and tender. The price of 11.45 was just right. It looked better than it tasted. It was good, meat was tender and the size of a regular sandwich was pretty big. But... The bread wasnt crispy at all and the entire flavor mix of thousand island and cole slaw was just ok to me. Not bad but expected more out of the flavor. They definitely need to toast the bread. My second part of the sandwich got soggy and was falling apart. Solid 4 stars. I might come back but not sure 🤷‍♂️

YES! This place is legendary. I had a chance to talk to the owners' nephew/son a bit around lunchtime. Really nice guy, and from a great family. I believe he said they're going to celebrate some 40+ years being open. Cheers to another 40 for sure. This is a family-owned and operated spot. Everyone in the place is friendly with a smile. The Food: Magnificent! You can definitely taste the quality of their meat and cheeses. Also, the care they put into the bread is just beyond belief. It's chewy, it's soft, and it has a nice outer texture. I recommend getting your sandwich toasted for sure to bring out more of the flavors in the cheese and meats. Today I got the turkey and cheese, with all the toppings. Fantastic! You can really tell that the turkey is fresh, has a true old school Deli texture to it, and is definitely A Cut Above any of the other local spots in the area. Honestly, for the amount of meat and cheese they put on their sandwich, they really do put the other places in the area to shame. Especially for the price! Where else can you get a 13 inch classic sub for 13 bucks? All the other delis in the area charge upwards of $16 for something that doesn't even compare to Dan's. 2 pickle wedges on a Large sandwich. Who else does that? Dan's aims to please. Parking: can be tricky around lunch time. They're lot on the side of the building holds maybe four or five cars. It's a little bit tricky backing out. You might be better off parking on the street at one of the meters. Call in your order ahead of time, even better! Atmosphere: If you do decide to sit inside, it's very retro, black and white Checker tables, small little place with a elevated counter to sit at as well closer to the street. But it's definitely a small, packed space. There are a few tables and chairs outside as well. Simplicity is best, and less is more. You'll have to try this place out for yourself and see how wonderful it truly is. A local gem for sure! In short, when it comes to sandwich places in the West San Fernando valley, this place is number one!

The reviews are spot on.... My first time eating from here and not my last. I placed an online order for the Reg size LA Pastrami. Order was ready in 20 mins. Parking may be an issue bc the lot is small, but I didn't experience any issues, even tho it was Friday @11am. I walked in and was greeted with a smile. The place was full but not crowded. I paid and received my bag....I felt the weight and broke my wrist..lol j/k...but it's weighty for sure... I wondered what the jumbo size wld feel like. I cldnt wait to dig in...once I open the foil..the aroma was delightful..it smell soooo yummy ...I took the cut half and first bite impression...mmmmm mmm goodt! The bread was soft and fresh, the pastrami was muahhhhhhhhhhhh chefs kiss...(looked at my receipt to make sure I wasn't charged for extra meat)....lol...nope...it's their way at Dan's ..the toppings were the perfect compliment...and that baja sauce was delicious. I couldn't eat the whole sandwich in one sitting..the half is filling.... Ohhhhh wow you're still reading this.... gooooooooo to Dan's right now, friends.. your soul will be happy.

For years, I have driven by this place, and today, I finally got to stop and try this amazing restaurant. If you get the jumbo sub, it is incredibly huge. I got the Gladiator, and it was one of the biggest Subs they had. I had to take the other half home with me, and I could not finish it. I've never had to take a sandwich home that I couldn't finish. They have a little parking lot on the side of their building. This place gets very busy and I see why! The food will not disappoint you exclamation point
