Collaborative Dinner to Meld Dishes of Korea and Thailand Together | Eater Atlanta

"A family-owned Lawrenceville restaurant that served as the formative kitchen for Chef Parnass Lim Savang, where he learned traditional Thai cooking practices and developed a lifelong pursuit of authentic dishes and ingredients that now inform his pop-up and collaborations." - Beth McKibben

Parnass Lim Savang Wants Atlanta to Experience Real Thai Food | Eater Atlanta

"At his family’s Lawrenceville restaurant Danthai, I learned that Savang’s earliest memories are of washing dishes as a child and working after school and on weekends—filling in wherever needed—so deeply entwined with the restaurant that he initially resented cooking; despite that, his father remained a supporter and later admitted he wished he could cook Savang’s dishes at Danthai but that they wouldn’t be what the restaurant’s customers wanted." - Beth McKibben

Trying a new Thai Restaurant, food was slightly cold, salty and favor was just okay.Service can definitely use some improvement. I'm literally the only customer in the restaurant dining, no utensils on a table , I had to ask for cup for my water jug,I had to repeat my order which came out wrong and asked for the Thai iced tea three times. The two servers are on the other side of the restaurant eating, chatting with each other and not even once came over to make sure everything was okay or if I needed something else. This is not okay. My personal opinion the music is nice jazz but it's just a bit too loud. With easy improvements this can be a very nice place to dine.

Google
This is probably my favorite Thai restaurant. Nice ambience, peaceful music and spaced seating. Major upgrades were made to the interior which is a lot more welcoming. The food is soooo good. And made with the quickness. The Pad Prik is easily my favorite dish, especially when you add the Thai Hot spice to it. White rice to add to the entree makes it that much more pleasant to enjoy and eat. The Pad Thai is on a whole other level compared to other places I've been to. Such a big portion but a really good price. Staff is quick and attentive and don't hover to rush you out.

Friends, this was not a good experience. I was there on a slow Sunday afternoon, the only patron in the restaurant. 1. The restaurant smells like a hint of sewage being covered with bathroom spray. They have a fan moving this air around. 2. The portions are too small for the amount being charged. We ordered the calamari for $10.95 and received 5 pieces. The calamari was over fried and rubbery. We were 4 people. 3. The tom yum soup was missing the depth of flavors this soup is known for. No lemongrass, 4 shrimp for a full pot serving and the shrimp were also rubbery and had a fishy aftertaste. I did speak with one of the restaurant owners and made my concerns known. The owner replied that other patrons have expressed concerns about the portion issue as well but his business partner doesn't seem to want to take the constructive criticism. The service was not good either, one owner is open to conversing with patrons and the other is curt. I did not order main entrees once I experienced the appetizers and service. As we were preparing to leave, we could hear the partners talking and one partner getting louder and louder expressing anger that they didn't think anything was wrong with the menu. I cannot recommend Dan Thai

Google
Went for lunch. I really enjoyed the green curry, the coconut flavor was very good. Pad thai was standard. Service was okay. The decor could use some dusting. Good location, have their own app for placing take out orders and getting reward points.

Google
Service was great and the food was even BETTER! The papaya salad and beef salad is my favorite.

Google
I order 2 lunch specials. Dan thai fried rice with shrimp and spicy basil fried rice with chicken. The shrimp rice literally had 3 shrimp in it which was $3 extra to add and the chicken rice had 4 pieces of chicken in it. Like really. Im not looking for tons of chicken or shrimp in the rice but charging $3 extra for shrimp them only putting 3 shrimp in the rice is ridiculous. So I guess that was $1 per shrimp. This place hasn't been the same since the new ownership took over. I miss the old guy who was so nice and really cared how the food was prepared. Returning customers and word of mouth is what keeps a business going or slows business down. This is the 3rd time trying the food since new ownership and maybe our last.

Google
I absolutely loved this restaurant! You must try. Everything was fresh and delicious. The remodeling & new owners are AMAZING! ❤️ I recommend the drunken noodles, panang curry and the coconut soup. My absolute top fave.

Google
Absolutely fantastic!!! They have been in business forever for a reason! I had the sesame chicken and my husband had the Pad Thai. The food is so delicious we almost hurt ourselves trying to get it all. This restaurant should be a must in everyone’s rotation.

Yelp
Always a tasty treat to eat at Dan Thai because the food is fresh, cooked to perfection

Lolo O.

Yelp
That food was good and flavorful. I also like that they give fair portion sizes. However, some of the appetizers are over priced.

Donna F.

Yelp
I've been eating here since the 90's. I can't find any other Thai that compares to this place. Beef Salad and Mango Curry Shrimp are my favorites.

Yelp
My son and I tried Danthai tonight for the very first time. We were in the area and wanted some Thai food. I googled Thai restaurants in the area and Dathai came up with very good reviews. They were closing in 15 minutes but still took our order. When I arrived to pick up my food I was skeptical. However, once we got home and tried the food I must say I very pleased. We ordered the spicy basil chicken and the shrimp and chicken dishes. The food was delicious and they give a nice size portion for the price. We will be back!

Yelp
Absolutely what we needed for the rainy fall evening. No frills simply delicious authentic Thai cuisine. Soups and appetizers were delicious and the Basil shrimp were very good. The restaurant ambiance is also very pleasant. Clean, well maintained and the service was attentive. You've earned a new customer!

Yelp
I will drive 30 min to get food from here. It's one of the best Thai restaurants in the area. I always get Curry or Pad Thai.

Gina S.

Yelp
Had the Chiang Mai stir-fry with pork and I did not like it at all. Tasted weirdly raw and like sugar was added to it. Spicy basil stir fry with tofu was spicy indeed but to the point of covering any other flavor. Very disappointing overall.

Yelp
I met a friend for lunch at Danthai. We were greeted promptly and seated right away. I had the Pard Thai. It was very tasty and the portion was generous. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Richard G.

Yelp
Very good Thai food. A little pricey though. You won't be disappointed. It's worthy to try it out.

Yelp
I was a bit skeptical when it seemed like we were the only ones in the strip mall, but I'm so glad we decided to eat here! Danthai is a hole-in-the-wall gem that serves fresh and authentic Thai food. The tofu basil rolls were so fresh, and their sauce was everything I was looking for. I looooved their Panang curry. It had a hint of sweetness from the coconut milk and had a creamy consistency that made the spongy tofu that much better. I wish they would've added more veggies to their entrees, but that's an easy fix. I'm a harsh critic when it comes to shrimp. The pad see ew wasn't my favorite because they happened to overcook the shrimp. I imagine I'd enjoy a tofu version instead. It's traditional flavor was definitely there, though I have had a pad see ew in midtown that calls to me every time I crave Thai food. I'd love to come back and try other menu items!

Yelp
Best thai food around been going for years. Excellent always great size servings. Mis seeing Noy but know he is enjoying retirement

Yelp
Food is always so good here! Great service and Togo is perfect too! Looks a little run down but looks can be deceiving

Yelp
Local is best - been here at least once every two weeks for a decade and they never disappoint! Love Larb, basil rolls, and the spicy eggplant/fried catfish!

Yelp
Originally we'd wanted something else, but that place was closed, so our friends suggested Danthai. We're mostly "Go with the flow" sort of folks so we agreed and I'm REALLY glad we did. WOW this place was SO GOOD. It's a little hole in the wall kind of place in a strip mall. They know their clientele, and greeted my friends by name when we came in. We were seated at the back of the eatery, which was fine by us, quieter and we could talk. The place smelled mouthwatering, and that made everything even better. we started with dumplings and coconut chicken soup, both of which were so so very good. Nothing we ordered was hot, everything was just flavourful. Our mains were even more decadent. The fried rice had everything in it, Beef, chicken and pork (I asked for no shrimp) and my guy's curry, he ordered that Thai hot, was just that. He ate every last bit of it. Our friends also enjoyed their meal as it was absolutely divine. If this place were close to us, we'd be there frequently that they'd know our names.

Yelp
I have been going here o er 30 years. I haven't been in a while and it is bad now. The only thing I got today vaguely worth eating were the basil rolls and they were mediocre at best. The soup didn't have coconut milk in it as expected. The curry was flat with no subtlety. The pad Thai was basic noodles and rice and the fried rice was an abomination. Add into this the prices. Sheesh. I don't recommend anymore. I won't try it again. I don't know how they are still in business if they can't make a curry.

Court M.

Yelp
Love the food here! Pad see ewe, chicken coconut soup, never had a dish I didn't love. They are back open for lunch service as of Aug. 2022!

Stephen L.

Yelp
Best Thai food in Snellville. Randy always provided great service. We did a lot (almost weekly) of take-out from here during Covid. Great place.

Yana J.

Yelp
Danthai has amazing food and a wonderful atmosphere! The food came out super fast and was delicious, and the customer service was fantastic and extremely helpful. This restaurant will definitely be a new regular for us!

Nicole M.

Yelp
We ordered the Pard Thai, Chili Beef Salad (Namtok), and Basil Chicken. The Pard Thai was just gross and there was zero taste of tamarind. I had to throw my food out. The Chili Beef Salad (Namtok) just came with meat with a few bits of mint no rice or cabbage and the meat was leathery tuff. The Basil Chicken was just ok but bland. Overall, save yourself the money and don't eat here.

Yelp
We've been going here for years and always love the food and friendly service. They will adjust spice levels for you if requested. Highly recommend!

Danielle E.

Yelp
Very outdated dining room. The spicy chicken basil rice had very little chicken but plenty of broccoli, cucumber and carrots??? That was a first. And more so like veggie rice. Wings were fried too hard & flavorless. Thai iced tea was great! Wasted money as I hardly ate any of it. Sorry I won't be back.

Yelp
Best food! Friendly service! My kids love it too. Yellow Curry chicken and Panong shrimp and scallops are my go to. Kids love wonton soup. For desert we always get the mango with rice dish. Definitely recommend

Yelp
This place was very good! I had the seafood boil type meal. It was mussels, shrimp, and I cannot remember what else. I asked for Thai hot and it was hot and tasty. A colleague and I split plates. The curry puffs were pretty good as was the sauce. I enjoyed the coconut soup. It was quite flavorful and full of basil. The spring roll was crispy and cooked perfectly. The food came out rather quickly and the service was excellent. I will return. And vow to take a pic next time!

Yelp
Doesn't look like much from the outside, but I doubt you could find better Thai food in Bangkok. Great food and a great family that prepares it. Ying Bang Bao Bao and Pad Thai with chicken are my personal favourites.

Yelp
I'm stuck on this place! I say that in a good way. I ordered by phone. I head over and come home with a feast. Basil rolls are wonderful every time. I tried the red duck curry special. If you are new to duck or squeamish about it, this is the dish that will convert your soul.

Shirley B.

Yelp
Food is delicious! Service is friendly and gracious. The ambiance could be improved upon but we go there mostly for the food. Lots of parking and easy in and out. Great for groups and social occasions.

Yelp
Ohhhh yum!!! This place is so great. I have had pad thai from a lot of places Danthai has the best chicken pad thai I have ever had! Also fresh and wonderful! All the dishes my family get are tasty too. I highly recommend

Yelp
Love, love, love!! Most authentic and best family and Thai restaurant ever!!! The Thai flavors are so delicious and they bring the "Thai heat" upon request. It is our weekly Thai restaurant!

Kent F.

Yelp
Love this place! Great Curry done the way you want it. Caution if you go Thai Spicy be ready and you better like spicy like I do. Not for the faint of heart, but delicious!!!!

Sofia M.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much on the outside but their food is delicious! I enjoyed their Panang Curry!

Rebecca K.

Yelp
The best egg rolls. Love the spicy basil noodle. Have been eating here since it opened. It has always consistently been great. The best Thai food in the Lawrenceville, Snellville and Lilburn area.

Yelp
I was told about how great this place was, so the expectations were quite high for Danthai. This Thai restaurant is located right next to Shahi Bazaar Grocery Store in the River Oak Shopping Plaza right off Oak Rd and Five Fork Trickum Rd. The first time that I came here there was only another couple inside the restaurant. How could a place so fantastic not be busy I thought? The owner came to the door as soon as I entered, welcomed me, provided a menu and brought a craft of ice water. I ordered the Pad Thai and Tom kha kai, man both the Pad Thai and Soup were incredible. The soup here is served smoking hot, so don't burn your lips while eating it. I have now Eaton here a total of four times, twice in one week. Each time was perfect and extremely consistent. Even to-go items come well portioned in size, something that does not happen at most places. The guy who runs this place definitely knows how to provide top quality service, based on this and the quality of the food here, this place should be busy all the time. I heard this place has been in business for 30 years, which I see why. If you want another Thai dish that is not on the menu, they will make it for you here too. That is something. I'll definitely be eating here a lot on days that I do not make my lunch. The second time I visited, the just closed, but the owner had the chef make me something to-go anyhow, which was very nice of him. If you love Thai food and enjoy excellent service, Danthai is the place is to visit. The prices here are very reasonable as well. [Review #328] (Eighty Eighth Review of 2015)

Yelp
Veggie basil fried rice here is great. They include baby corn in the veggie mix which is nice because many Thai restaurants don't. Portion size is large and enough for 2 people. Restaurant is not open for lunch.

Yelp
In the past this has been my go-to for Thai food, but I was slightly disappointed. If I remember correctly from the "inside menu....it did not list beans, carrots, and peas. Even if it did, it was a disappointment. It was a great amount of rice, but still not what "I" was looking for. I asked for mild spicy and it was barely spicey, they did so good in the past with avuiring my desired taste....prices are good and customer service is excellent but not happy with the food this time. I was introduced to something new and it was the Golden Bag, ground chicken, potato, and shrimp wrapped in what looks like a miniature paper bag.....DELICIOUS!!! Will I back...yes....

Amy K.

Yelp
We love Danthai & have been eating there for years. The food is always amazing. I always get spicy drunken noodles thai spicy & it was spot on & so fresh. My husband usually gets pad thai or other noodle dishes. They just opened back up for lunch & it came with spring roll & soup. Support local.

Yelp
Best Thai food in ATL. I have been eating here for years and you can expect the same delicious taste every time! Friendly service and great food!

Yelp
Really good Indian food! The nan could use a little more garlic but the other food was wonderful. Glad to know this place exists, it's in the Indian grocery store to the right

Yelp
This is such a sweet family run restaurant. The food is consistently delicious and the service is personal and lovely.

Yelp
My family has been going to Danthia for at least 20 years and we have always had good food. We have tried the other Thia restaurants around and they do not compare.

Rosa Haruko A.

Yelp
Delicious little hidden gem! We ordered soup as appetizer, I got the coconut chicken soup & it was delectable! I'm a huge soup lover & this one definitely hit the spot! What I loved the most about it was that you could taste each individual flavor in this warm little bowl of yumminess! As entrees we shared the chicken/shrimp pad Thai & yellow curry chicken & a large side of white rice. Both were a absolutely delicious! You can order each dish with different levels of spiciness which is great for people who don't eat spicy food. I love spicy food so I was happy that their food had a bit of a kick. Overall this is a small restaurant with a whole lot of flavor! Also the staff was very nice and attentive. P.s. try their Thai iced tea!

Tom I.

Yelp
Best Thai food in Georgia. I'm a Thai food "snob" and nothing comes close to Danthai. Noi, the owner will take special requests and he never disappoints.

Yelp
Love this place. Basil rolls are my favorite and the pad Thai. Inside is in need of updating. But for takeout you can't go wrong.

Yelp
My first review was 5 stars great but today I went in to order again and I had a horrific (yes, I'm being dramatic) customer service experience. The young man up front who is usually friendly was rude as had his back to me as he attempted to take my order. Maybe it's partly my fault because I was on the phone with work (I'm on call) and I asked if I could sit down to review the menu and continue my call. The young man stated, I could sit and then I placed my call on hold while I attempted to order. The young man's back was to me and he was very snappy while I struggled to say Panang. I then said, self why are we doing this? I advised, "never-mind! And I told him the following: "usually you're friendly but your back is to me." I started walking out and he stated, "I'm friendly!" All I could think is yeah, usually he is but not today....I'll leave. Basically this review wasn't about the food and I know we all are humans and have bad days or not so good days. At the same time, I will refuse to spend money at your establishment when met with unpleasant customer service. Beyond disappointed! ************************************************* First Review: was five stars Customer service with a comedic flare! My husband and I decided to give this place a try after living in the area for about a month. We walked in and found a couple of regulars telling us how awesome the food is and how the establishment has been around for over twenty years. The customers were great and the staff was so funny and welcoming. I took about ten minutes to order and the staff was so very patient with me. The food we ordered was amazingly delicious and we will be back to try everything on the menu. We ordered golden bag, egg rolls, ginger chicken hot and broccoli noodle chicken Thai hot. Keep in mind they are closed on Monday's

Yelp
My first time here and I must say, the appearance of the place is a little run down but their food? It's AMAZING! Authentic Thai food that has your mouth satisfied! I use to go to Thai of Norcross and being that is a little farther away, I think I found my place close to home. The ambiance is a mom and pops hole in the wall type of vibe and I love that is really clean inside. Great customer service and even greater food! Must try if you are in the area!
google avatar

Savannah B.

Yelp
Had the pad Thai and it was amazing. It comes with peanuts in it as an allergy warning. The owner and man at the front are both very nice as well

Jerry S.

Yelp
Good food and fair prices. Needs update on interior especially well worn booths. Service timely and friendly.

Jim D.

Yelp
Prior to the COVID pandemic this was one of our favorites but no longer. The business model has changed so they only offer take out. The last time I ordered take out (spicy basil noodles) the food was delivered very quickly indicating it had been previously prepared and was sitting in waiting. When I arrived home, my suspicions were confirmed. The noodles did not taste fresh. Neither did the veggies. Since then when the wife and I want Thai cuisine we go to Sri Thai on the corner of Scenic Highway and Highway 78.

Fabiola E.

Yelp
Literally the best Thai food in Lilburn. Pad Thai is delicious! I've also had their other noodle dishes and it never disappoints. Broccoli wide noodles are my new go to. A must try!!

Yelp
This review is for a togo order I made once I arrived. Service (during the 15 min I was there): A+. Very pleasant staff. I overheard at least two guests compliment them on their great service within the short time span I was there, they're obviously doing something right. Food: Ordered Pad thai and Panang Curry both on a spice level of "Thai Hot". The spice level is mild at best. Generous portions. Flavor was on point for the panang curry but the pad thai was lacking. The texture of their rice was a bit strange. I cant say I would go out of my way to come back here, but if I was hungry and in the area... it would definitely be an option.

Shay C.

Yelp
The best Thai food, hands down in Georgia. They are so small, but the owner (Noe) is great and he cares about his food. We have been coming here for 16 years, and have absolutely no plans on stopping
