Fantastic food, service and atmosphere in the beautiful halls of a former monastery.
If you are on a trip through this part of Bavaria, the Asam is well worth a detour for the setting alone. Located in the former monastery of Aldersbach, the dining areas are set out in the beautifully decorated upper floor of the main tract and feature 18th century Rococo ceiling frescoes. A very short-notice booking (same-day) was quickly accepted via email and service during dinner was friendly and extremely attentive, even though it was evidently a busy night with several large parties. The food was exceptional: regional and saisonal ingredients expertly put together and beautifully presented, with clever experimental/gastro takes on traditional Bavarian dishes. A beef tartare with celeriac variations was spectacular, as was slow-cooked venison with dumplings and seasonal greens. Only one option for wine by the glass, but evidently very well chosen to pair with the dishes. Very reasonable prices considering the quality of all the above. Will be absolutely delighted to come again.
