Not bad! The hotdogs were good (I think I may try something else if we're back in NOLA again), but the kiddos loved it. They had chicken tenders, which my daughter got, that looked amazing also! It's worth going at least once, especially if you have people who love hotdogs! 😂

Google
Fantastic atmosphere and the food to go along with it. I got the Irish Channel Dog. I could taste the Guinness flavor in the sausage. The Andouille sauce brought it up to another level. My sausage was perfectly cooked and very tasty. My fancy wife got a plain hot dog with cheddar cheese. We both shared an order of fries. It was great to sit outside and enjoy some great food.

Google
Fin outside seating area with bright colors. There is a dog choice for just about anyone. From the classics, to fish and vegan dogs. You can customize each kind as well. The sides were pretty good as well. Definitely a recommended stop if you are in the mood for dogs.

Google
The Chicago dog was so do, the fries were like cool not hot, they must have been sitting for a while. Over priced for what I got, for sure. Location is good, too bad the food wasn’t up to scratch..

Google
Good atmosphere and hot dogs are special. Worth the wait and worth the drive.

Always have to stop at Dat Dog when visiting New Orleans. My hot dog loving husband opted for the a straight up beef dog with mustard, onion and relish. He gave it a five star approval. I tried the Dat Burger with seasoned fries which I just loved. The little person with us enjoyed a kid's slider with tater tots followed by rainbow Dippin' Dots. When walking to our car, she exclaimed, "Oh my gosh! That was good!" Enjoyed sitting outside on the patio; lots of seating available. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but as soon as we took a bite we forgot all about it.

Google
We stopped by to check out the dogs. I had an Italian, my wife had a duck sausage and my daughter had a grilled chicken sandwich. The service was great, beer was cold and the toppings were many to choose from. I enjoyed my dog. My wife really liked the duck, I thought it was good as well, and my daughter said her chicken was juicy and flavorful. I can say the tots were nice and crispy as well. Try it out if you get over on magazine st and crave a hot dog!

Google
We found this place during a bus tour and knew we had to come check it out. They definitely did not disappoint! We had the Chicago Dog and the Fish Dog and a side of seasoned fries. The service was great and so was the food. The fry basket was more than enough for three of us to share. I definitely recommend this spot, they had lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
Great service and terrific bar! Great for a late lunch. Plus a lot of beers on tap.

Yelp
So I've only ever been to the one on Feret St but was on Magazine St so I though I would stop for a quick Hot Dog. And that quick hot dog ended up waiting for 30 minutes even though the location was not crowded. It seems the excuse was that they were behind. First we sat at the bar thinking we would get a cocktail. After being ignored by the server at the other end of the bar, I decided to order at the window, which went smoothly enough. When I got back to my seat, my friend was finally able to order a drink, however, they said that they could not make an old fashioned which seems odd since they have sugar and bitters. When the food arrived after the long wait, both Hot Dogs were cold. It seems that the food runner didn't want to make multiple trips and had waited for a second order and brought them out together. I ordered the Chicago dog. Being from Illinois, I know what it is supposed to taste like. I get the no poppy seed bun, but the bun on the hot dog was hard/stale on the ends. There was also so much mustard on the hot dog, that was all you could taste. So unbalanced and the sport peppers never made an appearance either. Also had the tater tots which tasted like they were fried in the same oil as a fish product. The bar was filthy and sticky, the ketchup dispenser was empty, and they were out of drink lids. The whole experience was abysmal so this will be my first and only time here.

Yelp
Loveeee me some dat dog! I was in town visiting family and I've been gone for 2yrs. It didn't taste like it did in the beginning and seems like they cut back on the amount of toppings, but it was still good! They were super nice and everyone was helpful! I can't wait to go back home and try the new menu
google avatar

Yelp
This was not as good as the Frenchmen street location. Hot dogs were not warm when they came out and it took an hour for the food to come! Tater tot's were cold. We got two hamburgers, two hot dogs and a salad. Even the soda didn't have bubbles in it from their machine, just flat sugary liquid. We couldn't believe how long it took. The service was friendly at the cashier despite maybe being overwhelmed. The seats and tables outside are also filthy and sticky, everything just felt dirty. Bathrooms and floor gross. It wasn't a great experience. The restaurant was not busy either. I was embarrassed because I hyped up the other location to my parents and it ended up being a disappointing lunch for how expensive it was too.

Yelp
OMG BEST Hotdogs I've tried. Incredibly talented and creative hotdog recipes. I would have to come back a few more times to get to know more the menu. There's a patio and bar inside so there plants of room for bigger groups and families. Fun and friendly staff. Now, the only drawback is the wait. And be ready for it. We waited 20 minutes for two hotdogs in a slow Sunday lunch.

Yelp
Love this place!! The bartender Matt was the best! He was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed during our visit
google avatar

Yelp
Vegan bratwurst!!! The vegan banger was amazing, the texture the taste the bun the toppings all were spot on. The staff were super nice and very laid back so don't expect to rush in and out but do expect a great hotdog experience.
google avatar

Marian Q.

Yelp
The food is delicious! The first time we visited was 5 years ago and it was so good we came back! We had a little bit of everything but don't sleep on the duck! Can't speak to the actual place because we got everything to go but it was quick, convenient, and the food was definitely just as good as we remembered!
google avatar

Yelp
Dat Dog on Market Street is a super convenient spot with a spacious patio and dining area, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. While I enjoyed my Chicago Dog, I was a bit let down by the size--the hot dog itself was smaller than expected, especially considering the price, with the bread overshadowing the beef. That said, all the sides were fresh and delicious! Overall, 4 stars--I'd hoped for a bigger bite for my buck, but I'd definitely come back to soak in the full experience, especially with the bar.
google avatar

Kelli D.

Yelp
I loved everything about this place! It's colorful, has a great oldies soundtrack, and friendly staff. I almost didn't stop in because I knew I was going to order a vegan item and they can be hit-or-miss at restaurants that are all about meat, but my vegan bratwurst was delicious. I don't remember when I've been impressed with a hot dog/brat, but it was the perfect balance of flavors with just enough relish, sauerkraut, onions, tomatoes, and mustard. I also had an order of tater tots. (No pictures of the food because I inhaled everything). I can see hanging out with friends in the outdoor sections, where they have a lot of fun games. Just a great atmosphere!

Yelp
We have been wanting to try Dat Dog for the longest time. Today our fondest wish came true and our expectations were greatly exceeded. Simply put, the food was awesome. Putting it over the top was the outstanding service provided by fry boy Jack R. He personally greeted us at our table and checked on the quality of our food. We highly recommend the fries and tater tots with a side order of brats. Can't wait to come back with all of our friends.

Yelp
DL;DR: Chill staff, good eats, and fun environment makes this a must visit for visitors and residents alike. $10 for a dog + whatever for fries and a drink might make you second guess, but do it at least once. You're welcome. I am a repeat offender at Dat Dog and have found that it is a visitor (tourist) hit when family and friends come in. You might find price tag shock when you arrive, at about 9-10ish dollars for a single dog, but 1 generally fills you up when done right. The topics are all you can get so make a list and check it twice before hitting the POS. Shoot, it might help to have a note pad on the way to the register. The fries are tasty enough to get again (I like crispy on the outside). The people are 95% of the time super chill and willing to work with you (like Hawaiian-shirt wearers would be, and they will likely be wearing one for outfit). The wall-art is semi-adult humor and mostly geeky (think Star Wars Geek). There are always bars and hand-made mocktails available. Expect the bread to be buttery-crisp and relatively sweet (like Hawaiian sweet roll sweet). There is almost always outside seating (on Frenchman, only a balcony), and the aesthetic keeps you looking around (again, expect some meat-related light adult humor).

Yelp
This was the second stop on an amazing food tour (check out New Orleans Secrets for a great tour!), and our tour guide ordered us the alligator sausage with entoufee sauce. Honestly, I was skeptical about even considering anything with gator in it, but this was honestly one of the best sausages I've ever had! The sausage has a nice crisp to it even boring into it, and the flavors of the sausage perfectly complimented each other with a little bit of a kick from some spice. I also loved the funky vibe of the place.
google avatar

Cassie D.

Yelp
Such a fun atmosphere and delicious food! The bar has a wide selection of local drafts, a few cocktails and decent canned wine options. We have come here a few times to watch Florida Gator games as it's the NOLA gator club watch party location. It's always a good vibe, the game is on most of the TV's and sound is on for the games as well. Don't be dissuaded by the "hot dog bar" title. They know their food! All different kinds of sausage and and hot dogs as well as tons of toppings. Fresh hot tater tots and crispy battered fries accompany the selection of dogs. We had the Italian sausage with onions and peppers and it was so good! Piping hot and extremely tasty, even down to the bun. Chili cheese fries were perfectly covered and also piping hot and fresh. We will be back!

Yelp
I like, and have eaten at all three Dat Dog locations (Freret, Frenchmen and Magazine Streets), and they are all great, but Magazine is closest to my heart. It's ... cozier, friendlier, warmer ... and four blocks from where I always stay when visiting NOLA. So add convenient to that list. Seriously, I think the krew there are just the best, couldn't be nicer, more considerate, family-friendly, full-measure kind of people. And the food is as good as it gets. So, as you are tramping up and down on Magazine Street, I Highly Recommend you stop in, take a load off, cool down, and dig in. Oh, there is a full bar. Dat Dog, Magazine - Five Stars.

Yelp
I was visiting my son, who lives nearby. We went over and each of us had a Rougarou, and alligator sausage hotdog. It had pico de gallo salsa, jalapeño slices and a bbq mustard type sauce. One of the best, if not the best hotdogs I've ever had. Sorry I don't have a photo as I inhaled this dog quickly. Can't wait to go back
google avatar

Yelp
Fun decor! Lots of color with countries' flags on the ceiling. It's June, so lots of Pride flags as well. Great outdoor seating area. Dog and kid friendly! Hot dogs were unique and big. AMAZING BUNS! Decently priced
google avatar

Sam I.

Yelp
My hot dog was Burnt to a crisp. Over cooked and hard as brick. They dropped the ball on making a simple hot dog . A huge waste of money. Their response is it's burnt but still edible. Every table I sat was sticky, they do not clean their table, just a nasty place.
google avatar

Sadie E.

Yelp
A delicious dog. I decided to build my own. I got smoked Brotsworth with grilled onions and cheddar cheese. It was pretty decent. The chili cheese tots were also delicious. The chili was very good, next time I am adding it to my dog! The atmosphere and outdoor seating is nice. Bathrooms were dirty and you have to park out on the street, no parking lot.
google avatar

Colette O.

Yelp
This is a cute and colorful restaurant. I have not had a hot dog nor thought about one in a few years. Will try another location but definitely would go back.

Tiffany A.

Yelp
Didn't seem very clean and I didn't like my food. Husband was pleased with his food, however. Friendly staff. Lots of space and nice patio.
google avatar

Jono B.

Yelp
I've frequented Dat Dog many a times and am finally leaving a review. The fact I've frequented it many times should explain why I am giving it 5 stars. The hot dogs are always good. Fries are top of the line by the way. Pricey for a hot dog meal but worth it. Located on the great Magazine St.
google avatar

Oliver B.

Yelp
Meh! The menu is all over the place, service was meh, taste is typical of a hot dog. We just happen to stroll in for a quick bite to eat. The wait time was a little long for an empty restaurant for an early lunch on a weekday. You hear about Dat Dog, but my first impression was just meh. I could take it or leave it.
google avatar

Joshua B.

Yelp
Very good hot dogs. Dat Dog has many different options for all types of hot dog experiences! Great cocktails and helpful staff. The setting is very casual but on certain days they have trivia and other events! It's a must if you're causally strolling on magazine st!

Yelp
This was my 3rd time to NOLA and I had never been in the mood for a dog. This time, I was, so I went in! I had originally placed my order to eat there. And I'll explain the 4 stars: Ambiance: friendly bar vibe, colorful Service: super sweet girl who took my order; the wait was longer than I thought for my small order and 2 people who had arrived after and ordered after me for their food before I did. Cleanliness: this is why I rated 4 stars- the floors had food on them under the tables. The tables had food on them and were sticky. I'm not uppity, I swear, but I do like a floor without food and a tabletop that's been cleaned. I was so grossed out I couldn't eat there. So I changed my order to go. Food: this was 5 stars no doubt- I ordered a grilled bratwurst with sauerkraut and mustard and Cajun fries. It was SO good! Like good good. Fresh on all levels and even taking my food to go, I got back to my air bnb and it was still warm. The fries are a hefty portion so can easily be shared and really really good! I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
Excellent service. Hung at the bar Matthew. Dogs are really good. I had a chili dog with onions.
google avatar

Paul C.

Yelp
The two locations that I've been to, Frenchman Street and Magazine Street, both restaurants have been fantastic. Super attentive to the customer and to make sure that the orders were done expediently. And the cocktails and beverage service was impeccable. The ambience is picnic tables so very casual, both both inside and outside seating.
google avatar

Loretta D.

Yelp
The hot dog was good. You had your variety of different versions in which you could have hot dog fixed. The staff was friendly. A quiet place for a quick meal.
google avatar

Anessa O.

Yelp
We were shopping along magazine street and got hungry, decided to try one of these hot dogs from Dat Dog . It was a perfect day to sit outside in their backyard . Ambiance was playful and colorful. The music was cool too (rock/rap) but that hot dog was great !!! And for me to say a frankfurter is good means alot considering I dont ever eat franks , idc what you top them with . But if you're going to top a frank with crawfish I may eat them more often . The crawfish was tender and tasty. The frank itself was grilled not boiled (thank goodness) and I took my time eating it because again I'm not a frankfurter fan but my bun didnt get soggy (plus plus plus) Definitely did not enjoy my drink though . I honestly cant remember the name of it, definitely not a memorable drink but those franks ! Go there !
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
This is definitely one of the places that I wanted to try while I was in town. Great selection of sausages and toppings. The buns that they use are sweeter than a normal hot dog bun and it really has a great flavor. There was scattered rain so we sat inside but they also did have a big area with patio seating.
google avatar

Toni T.

Yelp
I was actually shocked at how good this hotdog was! I went for the first time last week with friends. Friendly staff and cool ambiance.

Panette P.

Yelp
Bacon Werewolf dog- I love wurst! This had everything I love...juicy wurst, smoke, dill relish, mustard, onions, sauerkraut!!' The bacon was a bit overdone and was jerky-like so I could have easily done without it. It was a great dog!!! Staff was friendly and efficient. Great outdoor seating and music soundtrack playing.
google avatar

Greg M.

Yelp
I live just a few blocks from the Marigny location, but found myself Uptown in need of a dog, so I knew where to go! Same perfect dogs (selection and quality) that I've grown to love at my neighborhood Dat Dog, but with an expansive, super cool patio and spotlessly clean indoor dining room that has me a bit envious. Super friendly staff at the food ordering station. Bartender was a little indifferent, but I get it.
google avatar

Jarrett L.

Yelp
From out of town and always looking for a good hot dog. Dat Dog really is, dat dog. Not only was the Chicago dog amazing, the vibes were immaculate and the staff were all super fun and friendly. 10/10 would recommend.
google avatar

Courtney K.

Yelp
Dat Dog will always be a neighborhood favorite, although in the past few visits, it is apparent that quality control is slipping a bit. On a recent visit, cheese fries were so burnt that they should never have been served. Another time, the cheese wasn't fully melted (which I much prefer to burnt cheese). The hot dogs still seem pretty solid and I have been lucky enough to visit when they aren't crazy busy. One of the longtime bartenders is a bit brusque but I think he means well.
google avatar

BriElle A.

Yelp
I am from Chicago, so I love a good hotdog and did Dat Dog deliver! I got the alligator dog that had this amazing spicy mustard and jalapeños. The fries were really crispy and flavorful. The service was very quick and the man behind the bar was super friendly. I really liked the overall vibe of the restaurant and would definitely go back!
google avatar

Lakeisha W.

Yelp
I've been going to Dat Dog for years! I don't eat hot dogs, but I like the look of them (weird.... I KNOW), so I go and I get the vegan hot dog. It is sooooo good. The drinks were amazing I got tipsy. I'm not a fan of the service, but I can live with cafeteria style service. You order in the back, get a number, they deliver. You go to the bar to order drinks. You clear your table when you're done. Not a fan, but I can make it work.
google avatar

That Guy S.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Where else can you get a hot dog for $10 in less than 25 minutes. I'd love it even more but my flip flop got stuck to the floor.
google avatar

Lucy G.

Yelp
We had an alligator sausage dog and a chicago dog with an order of cheese fries. The dogs were both pretty good, lots of toppings, and good sizes. The fries were a disappointment. We got this order to go and took back to our hotel about 20 mins away. When we opened the fries, the cheese was completely hard, and the fries were cold. I get that fries are something that should be eaten fairly quickly and that cheese gets hard, but 20 mins? I feel like they were probably sitting there getting cold before our dogs were ready or something. Maybe I'm wrong, but my suggestion is to order fries only if you're dining in. Otherwise, I was pretty happy with our food.
google avatar

Leslie S.

Yelp
Went in for a quick lunch while we were picking up a few things in the area. They're currently offering indoor and outdoor dining, but it was a drizzly day so we opted for sitting indoors. They have a hand sanitizing station at register where you order your food and drinks and the staff members were wearing masks and gloves. It's been what feels like an eternity since I last ate at Dat Dog so I went with my old faithful order - the bacon werewolf. It's a smoke brat topped with all kinds of yumminess - bacon, relish, grilled onions, sauerkraut, spicy mustard, and tomatoes. They provided a fork and knife but I just picked it up and dove right in. The brat was nice and juicy and the toppings pair well with it. We also got an order of the cheddar bacon ranch fries to split. These are delicious as well and we had none leftover. I also ordered a mulled wine since it was chilly with the doors open, and wasn't sure what to expect ordering mulled wine from a hot dog place but it was a delicious hot drink.
google avatar

Trina K.

Yelp
I'm still a fan and find their options/ toppings to be rather unique. And this is coming from one who rarely eats a hot dog otherwise. During my last visit, it was trivia night and there were lots of outdoor tables, music played in between and a fun vibe for a week night. In addition to my specialty dog and fries, I tried the blackberry frozen marg which was ideal for me bc there was more fruit flavor than tequila.
google avatar

Dillon W.

Yelp
Absolutely a must! Delicious and something to add as a jewel in your New Orleans board! Always delicious, always a good vibe, always fun! We include the Magazine St. location every, single, trip!
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
Turned away 10 minutes before closing. It's Mardi Gras, sure. But we're local, and we called to confirm you close at 9pm. We walked in through the open doors at 8:50, and were told 'we just closed'. Sure. Very unfortunate. You lost business. And we missed out on some good wieners. We brought our business to The Rum House, and had an amazing time. Friendly service, great drinks, and tasty tacos. Recommend the Mr. Biggs margaritas (with Don Julio) and Mr. Biggs Plate (4 tacos, and side, plantains and beef patty). Suuuuper delicious food. I get that you want to close early, and let's be clear, that's 100% what you did. But you lost business and not just for tonight. You've lost a local's backing.
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
I used to really enjoy Dat Dog, but Covid restrictions have put a huge damper on the fun experience. Don't get me wrong, the hot dogs are made your way and delicious and the Cheddar-Bacon-Ranch fries (or tots) are awesome!!! I recommend visiting any of the NOLA locations, but cut them a little slack until the Mayor reopens the city ... hopefully soon!
google avatar

Katie O.

Yelp
Hotdog was good. French fries were just perfectly done. Was recommended to visit by a Tulane alum. It took a long time to get the hotdog though... Lots of room to sit and had a great outside area too.
google avatar

Caroline R.

Yelp
Dat Dog is the best hotdog place in the city, change my mind. It is always there when you need it most, before a night out, when you need some comfort food, or just want to sit and watch the game and have a good dog. Irish Channel dog is my favorite currently, but my friend tried the werewolf and it was delicious. The bread they use for the buns is the best bread you will ever have with a hotdog. The tater tots are the perfect side to finish the combo.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
So, you say, "Dog?" I say ,"duck?" Well, I'll take the 2-in-1. Basically, the staff consistently realize that if you order a duck-dog or whatever tickles your fancy, you're going love eating it. Plain, simple or the whole scha-bang, thanks for serving us your dogs.
google avatar

Cheng X.

Yelp
A surprise hit for us visiting New Orleans. Amazingly delicious and flavorful hot dogs - definitely ask the chef to dress your hot dog for the best flavor combos!

Yelp
Whenever I hear Dat Dog, it makes me think of the New Orleans Saints. Who dat! Back before the coronavirus hit, I was in Nola for a bachelor party. I had heard of Dat Dog all the way from Houston and I was pumped to check it out for a late dinner with the crew on a Saturday. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. While they have more than hot dogs on the menu, Dat Dog is all about dogs with a Cajun twist. They have a bunch of creative options on the menu but I opted to create my own dog. I went with the gator sausage (when in Rome, right?!) and added a pickle slice, cheese, and dat sauce (similar to Cane's sauce). Plus some cheese fries. If you want to order alcohol, you do separately at the bar. The restaurant was pretty packed and we had a big group but we were able to find some room on their spacious patio. We put two picnic tables together and we were set. I prefer seating with back support so I've never been a fan of picnic-style seating but I made it work. Especially since the food was A+! A generous portion of crispy, seasoned fries smothered in melted cheese couldn't have been better. The hot dog also delivered and this was my first time trying a gator dog. If you're looking for a quick and casual meal at a Nola institution, make sure to check out Dat Dog!
