The 20 Best Spots In Northeast Philly

"Dattilo’s is a small deli with excellent sandwiches that are perfect for a quick lunch or a picnic at nearby Pennypack Park on a sunny day. It’s also a great choice if you’re in the Northeast and have a craving for meat, bread, and cheese on a roll (we realize this could be daily). All of the sandwiches here are long (we’re talking the length of Joel Embiid’s forearm), and each is worth your attention. No matter what you go for, the meat will be thick-cut, perfectly balanced by toppings, and each bite will demonstrate the power of quality ingredients." - candis mclean

The 14 Best Hoagies In Philadelphia

"Hoagies at this Rhawnhurst deli are oversized—it’s like someone fed them the “Eat Me” cake from Alice in Wonderland. Hoagies can come in 12 inches or you can pay $0.25 for an extra foot, and they’re all excellent. This is why if you've stopped by during lunch hour, it may get as crowded as 2 Street on New Year's Day. The traditional Italian is the way to go here. The roll is soft yet has a beautifully crispy exterior, and each bite is overflowing with piles of thinly-sliced meat and cheese. Just be sure to save room for a bag of chips near the checkout line, because who’s eating a hoagie without them?" - alison kessler, candis mclean

The 13 Best Roast Pork Sandwiches In Philadelphia

"If you think roast pork sandwiches are good no matter the quality of the ingredients, go to Dattilo's in the Northeast to see how much better the sandwich can taste when the deli gives a f*ck. Their pork is thick cut, while the crunchy broccoli rabe and slices of sharp provolone give a sweet, earthy balance to the salty meat. Plan a walk or a picnic at Pennypack Park nearby." - candis mclean

The Best Restaurants in Northeast Philly | Eater Philly

"Call ahead or be prepared to wait at Dattilo’s, a corner store full of imported and house-made Italian delicacies. Behind the cases of marinated artichokes, roasted peppers, and mushrooms is where the hoagie magic happens. Chewy, seeded rolls are baked in-house and stacked with generous layers of thinly sliced deli meat, fresh mozzarella, and Dattilo’s dressing. Don’t skip the filled-to-order cannoli. Dattilo’s also serves up one of the best cheesesteaks in Philadelphia." - Sarah Maiellano

Google
Our go to lunch spot for a cheesesteak with fried onions, cooper sharp on a seeded roll. I always ask for extra salt and pepper on the meat because they go light but the kids love walking here after school!

Google
Great Family ran Deli! The best in Philly hands down! They have hand made spaghetti sauce and they roast their own turkeys to make lunch meat. Hoagies are delicious. They have Hanks soda and even cheesesteaks. Friendly staff and great service. I highly recommend this deli

Google
Can I just say I can't believe I grew up in this neighborhood and I never came here until now! This quaint little deli makes one of the best cheese steaks I have ever had. They also have a ton of fresh deli items and fresh meats. I saw them on a competition for the best steaks and couldn't believe they were blocks from my house. Anyone that has read my reviews knows I'm also a big breakfast guy and they do that great and ALL DAY! Let me start with the steak. The roll is seeded and so fresh, solid foundation. The meet was moist and tender plus super stuffed. This is my new go to for steaks. My wife had an Italian hoagie and loved it, said it was perfect! Now to the breakfast, the sausage egg and cheese on a Kiser roll was delicious. The eggs were fresh tasting and the overall sandwich was great. My only minor ask is that they add a hashbrown as an option. They have no breakfast sides, no home fries and no hashbrowns. I feel that is kind of a big miss but not worth a loss of a star. But please add them. This is an absolute must go to.

Google
I'm convinced, had the meatball sandwich, really good, had it again, really good and again, consistency. So, let me ask you, how the hell do you do the same with a cheesesteak? And not only that, make a damn good cheesesteak. Wowza, you sure earned these 5 stars. Now I definitely gotta try a cold hoagie from you. Great work, flavor is crazy. I'm impressed. If you haven't tried this place, go ASAP, you will pleasantly appreciate the experience and flavor.

Google
Went after work Monday 6/2/25 I was hungry tired thought I'll try a dittilos hoagie it was at the end of the day I get it I was the last person but why give me that ? That was the worst turkey hoagie ever dude you should have said where done I would've been ok I'll go somewhere else but to give me that ! Where's the meat? Roll hard as hell thanks for nothing never again

Chris Real

Google
First time was okay, but the second time ordering was trash the roast pork was salty and the roll was soggy like it swam in the ocean before being delivered. Also ordered a roast beef hot sandwich on a roll pounds of salt very salty never again you guys lost money with me as I did with this trash meal you guys prepared.

Google
Boy I'll tell you one thing, they can make a heck of a sandwich. Classic neighborhood old school Italian deli. Doesn't get better than this. Fantastic selection of deli meads, butchered meats, rolls, and all types of imported Italian treats and sodas and various kitchen cooking items. The guys behind the counter are neighborhood guys, couple of them I've known since I was a young one. We need more places like this.

Google
My friend has always told me Dattilo’s has the best hoagies. She’s right! First time. Hoagie with the best chewy bread, delicious turkey, sharp provolone, roasted peppers. The biscotti are great. I’m so impressed with this little Italian deli where they even have fresh chicken, cheeses, great pasta and sauces, desserts like tiramisu, etc. Thumbs way up!

Lisa D.

Yelp
I ordered the cheesesteak with no onions. Have eaten the food many times. It is excellent. Large roll, chopped beef and melted cheese on top. The sandwich is big so that I can make 2 meals from it. My husband orders a roast pork sandwich with gravy. He enjoys it every time. It is always warm and wrapped nicely. There is also a Deli that sells meat, cheese. rolls and canned and packaged goods.
google avatar

Monica Z.

Yelp
Their cheesesteak was awesome! Flavorful, generous portion, and the roll was on point! I wasn't too thrilled with the mozzarella sticks; they tasted like your average processed sticks. Not sure if they're homemade, but they weren't as good as the ones I get at the diner. The sauce was bland and watery.

Yelp
Great Italian specialty spot if your looking for imported Italian groceries and a solid sandwich. When I was a kid my mother used to take me here often for her favorite Mortadella and at the time it was one of the only places you could find Nutella. They still sell Italian playing cards and Italian cornicello to hang so you can ward off the evil eye aka malocchio. Fresh produce, dairy/cheeses, olives, Italian coffees, juices, olive oil, sweets, panettone, fresh bread, deli meats, pints of Bassett's Ice Cream etc., all sold with help from a great staff. On my last visit I asked for an Italian hoagie with proscuitto and extra sharp provolone. I believe the guy told me it also came with hot capicola, genoa salami and pepperoni. It took a little bit to get my sandwich as they were very busy at the deli counter, but it was worth the wait. My sandwich was packed with meat and on a fresh roll (which I believe came from Corropolese, but don't quote me on it). Lots of spicy bite from the hot capicola, great kick from the sharp provolone and wonderful flavor from the proscuitto. Overall, it was a solid above average premium meat Italian hoagie. I took home some Italian wafer cookies, chocolate filled Croissants and a bottle of Brioschi which kicks butt if you ever need all natural quick effervescent digestive relief. (Thankfully I don't have problem often, but when I do, I thank God this stuff exists!) Dattilo's is an older Italian market and doesn't look fancy, but to me it's still a very relevant staple to the Northeast community run by good people.

Yelp
I went to Dattilo's because I heard that they have a very good cheesesteak and my fist visit/experience was great, customer service was very good, wait time was good place was clean and offered a variety of snacks amongst other things. The bread was a fresh seeded roll with a good chew the steak was chopped well and not overly done I got fried onions and cooper sharp with lettuce and tomato all ingredients very well put together. I enjoyed it down to last bite. I will be back to try their hoagies as well.

Yelp
My favorite place!! Coffee and food its great best Italian place around northeast Philly

Yelp
Whether for individual sandwiches or catering, Datillo's Delicatessan makes a terrific sandwich with fresh ingredients and excellent portions. I ordered a variety of hoagies from Tuna, Turkey, Italian, and Grilled Vegetables for the staff at Cooper Hospital, whose first responders went above and beyond to care for immediate family members who were hospitalized with Covid. Daillos's kindly cut sandwiches into thirds and individually wrapped and labeled sandwiches, prior to placing them securely wrapped on trays. The feedback from the doctors and nurses was nothing short of delightful. A couple delectable desserts were ordered as well, such as cupcakes in a cup, which is exactly what the name says- two cupcakes in a cup. Absolutely great and hit the spot for those with a sweet tooth. Datillo's is reasonably priced and direct sacrifice quality. I highly recommend this superb staple.
google avatar

Renee D.

Yelp
Very busy neighborhood convenience store/market/deli counter where you can order a variety of sandwiches to go. Twice I have gotten turkey hoagies (deli turkey, but you can also get roasted homemade turkey) and they've been very good. My only small peeve was the roll was a little hard. The first time I thought it was slight old but the second time I realized it's just their roll. Very friendly

Yelp
I love this place. The staff is super friendly. They use high-quality ingredients. The sandwiches are very tasty, and I adore their cheeseburger. I usually order in the morning by phone, and in 10 minutes, I swing by on my way and everything is ready. It's a wonderful spot for lovers of Italian products and food.

Yelp
What a great find!!! My daughter was getting married and we were tasked (with little notice, as these things happen ) to supply breakfast and lunch for the wedding party. We came up from Maryland to scout the area to find a "Gem" that could supply my Daughter's vision for food. We started making the rounds in the car and came upon Dattilo's on a corner. Being from Philly many decades ago, we fell in love as soon as we walked in. Old world style and service. I could go on for hours about how good the food was, the quality and quantity and how everyone raved over the selection. Anthony made up a great menu to cover some of our out of the box needs and his whole team went above our expectations. I can't wait for our next family adventure in the old neighborhood (Philly family) to come back and chow down again. A real benchmark for that neighborhood.
google avatar

Jesse S.

Yelp
This is a great little store. Meats were very tasty and reasonably priced, and the perfectly bite sized pepper shooters and grilled long hots were both spot on. The only thing I didn't care for were the roasted red peppers, which were watery with an off putting bitter aftertaste. The people who work here are extremely friendly and helpful.

Robin Z.

Yelp
They have an extensive menu. Great sandwiches , generous chicken fingers & crispy fries in a hurry! My husband enjoys the steak sandwiches as does his 94 year old mom, son & daughter-in-law & our 7 & 11 year old granddaughters. All orders with different toppings & piping hot on delicious rolls.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
I moved out of Philadelphia in 1988. That being said I have been a patron of Dattilo's for over thirty five years and still today every time I am in the neighborhood, my visits revolve around stopping at Dattilo's. Butcher shop, Deli, Sandwiches, rolls, Italian delicacies. I don't think the people know what a special place they have here. Datillos's belongs in a category all by themselves! You guys are the best!
google avatar

Jme M.

Yelp
Great hoagies and great service. Homemade food to choose from along with fresh cut meat.

Stephanie ..

Yelp
I wish I can walk in there any order deli meats and cheeses. I was shocked to see that the employees do not wear gloves when working. They touch each slice of food as they slice it. Of course this is unusual and unsanitary. Its hard to believe that this us allowed to go on.......
google avatar

Deirdre C.

Yelp
A friend was raving about their cheesesteaks and said she wanted to treat me to one today for lunch. I haven't had a cheesesteak in a while so I took her up on her offer, plus I was hungry! Lol so we stopped in. There was a line but it moved quickly. Ordered my cheesesteak with mushrooms and onions. We took them to her house to enjoy and OMG it was really really good! Quality ingredients are key, always! I will absolutely make a trip up there the next time I'm craving a cheesesteak!
google avatar

Jon Z.

Yelp
Cheesesteak American cheese, fried onions & mushrooms on a fresh seeded roll. Delicious!
google avatar

Anthony N.

Yelp
This is the second time I've had Dattilo's and I swear to God I'm going to sue the crap out of them! Their cheesesteak hoagie is soooo got damn good I almost slapped tf out of my momma!! I moved from Tacony to Holmes Circle and needed to find a legit deli that could rival Marinucci's. Well ladies and gents, this place not only rivals but I believe is the victor of the two. They also sell beer here as well which I love. I have also tried the chicken cutlet and my gawd I almost kicked me gf down the stairs it's so damn good! (Ok let me stop I sound abusive bahaha)
google avatar

Joshua P.

Yelp
If you're in the Northeast & want an amazing hoagie with high quality meats on a great roll I would highly recommend Dattilo's. They made one of the best Italian hoagies I've ever had. This place is a must visit if you love a good hoagie & live anywhere near it.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
These people work hard and care about this place. I actually hung w them once and they are a group of awesome people too. I worked next door at state farm and i had to go here like once a day. Great breakfast sandwichs btw... But the veggie might even be better then nona veggie at primos. Its nice to see a neighborhood place still holding up too. Not many 2nd generation family businesses, when passed down to their kids,. Keep that passion. That's usually when all the profits go into owners pockets until place is forced to close but the guys here definitely still keep that old, local deli vibe. Even the smell when u walk in takes u to a different era.

Jake F.

Yelp
Fantastic. Freshly sliced meats and cheese. High quality meats and cheese. Great seeded roll. The right proportion of fillings to roll. Reasonably priced. Don't dick around, just go and enjoy yourself. Highest recommendaton. I suggest the Italian. Wish we had a hoagie this good in Doylestown, but it seems all of the Doylestown hoagies suck ass. Repeat: all Doylestown hoagies suck.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Excellent imports and large variety of dishes. The service is quick and honest. Ambiance, what can say for a deli. Everything you need is right at your fingertips.
google avatar

Toy G.

Yelp
Not even sure how I have not posted about Dattilo's yet since I have been coming here for many years. I might be a bit daft. I loved everything I have tried. Since I just noticed my fault I will share my dinner from a few nights ago. The burger is fresh ground, large and scrumptious. Love the roll it's napping on. Oh yeah and it's so cheap too. Mozz sticks are house made so you better believe your tootsies they are perfect. Lastly, for the first time trying the chicken cutlet. Outstanding, will be enjoying it on the regular for sure. A shout out to the unpictured cheese steaks & meatballs many times in the past. Both a divine choice. Anything here really is a sure hit. So go NOW!
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
Datillo's Italian Deli is a staple destination in the Rhawnhurst neighborhood of Northeast Philly.  It has a fine selection of Italian meats and treats that is always well-stocked.  And it does a fine Philly hoagie.  Which Philly hoagie is it especially famous for?  You guessed it - the Italian one.  Nicely put together and of good size as well as being fairly priced, this is a great pit stop if you ever find yourself in the Rhawnhurst area.  Maybe just another slice or two of meat and cheese with a few hot peppers and I could put this hoagie in the five-star stratosphere ... but I don't think you will be displeased with biting into one of these tasty creations in its present form.

Erin F.

Yelp
Dattilo's is your typical rough around the edges Philly corner store with a twist! The Italian hoagies are made in heaven. At first, you might sense some Philly attitude, but who cares? Bring your appetite! It's like a mom and pop shop from the good old days. Everything is delicious from the savory seeded rolls, roasted red peppers, and amazing South Philly cheeses! Don't forget the made in Italy dessert. Overall, you're going to come back for more. Bring your sassy self and you'll fit right in!
google avatar

Ezra S.

Yelp
The best Italian deli around! The meats are great and the prepared foods are delicious, been going there for years.
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
My new best friend is the guy that was sitting outside and told me to go back inside and get the Rice pudding. Everyone was great! Flavor was great! Prices were great! I got a cheesesteak with mushrooms. The meat, fried onions and mushrooms together were as good as any steak house. save room for the cannoli and rice pudding.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
Awesome sandwiches, old school Italian corner store This is the type of place where they're sincere about customer service and have pride in their business. Go...... eat! You will absolutely not be disappointed!
google avatar

Marty D.

Yelp
Everything about this place is awesome except that awning outside...LOL Authentic Italian goodies, friendly service, good prices. I love this place. Try the hoagies :-)
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Been going there for over 45 years since mom sent me for the gravy Awesome fresh made to order sandwiches Don't tell mom but I buy their meatballs To die for.... They got breaded ready to fry chicken cutlet and ground meat and the best sliced deli cheese and made to cut blocks of cheese
google avatar

Jake M.

Yelp
Got the Datillos Steak sandwich, flavor was good meat was juicy not dry. The cheesesteak could have used more meat, was a little skimpy as compared to other well known spots. Seeded roll was good as well. Overall good cheesesteak but not in my top three. Next time will try some of the famous italian hogies.
google avatar

Ben P.

Yelp
Always the best of everything! Thanks Vince for ordering my stuffed peppers special, and always providing the best customer service and highest quality products that takes me back to my Italian childhood.

Mary C H.

Yelp
The best sandwiches, deli meats , butcher great meats . They're a staple in this neighborhood and that's because they're excellent.
google avatar

Barbara H.

Yelp
If you're looking for genuine Italian food products with fresh rolls and cold cuts this is the place for you.

Carla A.

Yelp
These people are honest, hard working individuals. They will do the impossible to keep their customers satisfied. Their food is absolutely delicious!! We are Italian and I can tell you that you find the REAL THING in that cozy store. Don't buy your MORTADELLA anywhere else, they are the only avenue in Philadelphia where they sell REAL ITALIAN MORTADELLA, or, if you want me to call it with an American name: Bologna.
google avatar

Adara D.

Yelp
My man loves this spot. I try to stay away from the carbs and meats but when I don't...this place is on the must have list?

Deneshia W.

Yelp
The best!!! My Fav Italian Deli The owner is a sweetheart. This is my Deli now & I live in jersey 15 minutes no problem
google avatar

Sari Marissa G.

Yelp
My Mom has shopped and raved about this place for years. When I found myself running an errand just down the road I figured I had to give it a try since I'm never in this area. I may just have to make sure I am in the future... Coming from South Philly, it was a taste of home. Fresh pastas and breads, even breadsticks I've been on the search for. They sell homemade sauce or "gravy" depending on which Italians you're taking to. All the stinky cheeses your heart desires. Lots of imported Italian goodies. Sold per piece, breaded, pounded chicken cutlets and other meats. They supposedly make killer made to order stuffed hoagies and have uber friendly guys behind the counter. They also carry Corroppolose famous tomato pie and Philly soft pretzels. I also noticed some Jewish deli favorites such as Zayda's pickles and Kelchner's sauces. I did notice the cannoli and chocolate covered cannoli shells atop the counter waiting to be filled! My purchases were house marinara, ready to slice, seasoned basil garlic polenta, tomato pie and fresh loaf of bread. We were happy with everything! I've been wanting to try making polenta at home and this stuff was easy to just slice and bake! Low cal too! Mom always gets thinly sliced rib eye here which she makes into steak sandwiches my brother and dad say are comparable to Steve's Prince of Steaks! I'm definitely coming back to grab a hoagie and some meat for hubs. I'm impressed with the selection, the authenticity, customer service and small town feel this place has.

Susan I.

Yelp
Great Italian deli! The selection of cheeses and meats are awesome, as good as it gets and I don't have to drive to the Italian market and search for parking!
google avatar

Maryann W.

Yelp
My husband and I go here at least a couple times a month. Their hoagies are delicious and are packed! The family that owns this deli is so friendly and personable. They sell Italian pastas, fresh mozzarella, lunch meats and cheeses, bread, tomato pie, pints of Bassett's ice cream, fresh tomato sauce, rice pudding, pasta salad, cannolis, beer, chips, and the list goes on. Always a happy customer!
google avatar

Francisco F.

Yelp
They do hoagies n meats well but their cheesesteak idea is not a good on. i ordered with onions n hot peppers and they gave me no onions n pickles instead of hot peppers. Mark me disappointed.

Carolyn S.

Yelp
I was visiting my daughter and my two grandkids and I thought I would bring lunch, I ordered a turkey hoagie and a cheese steak. The steak was very good nice amount of meat and a very good seeded roll. But the hoagie not as good, the roll was a plain hard Italian roll and when I say hard, I mean hard. The kids could bite into it so the remove the turkey and cheese and tossed the roll. Some people may like a hard(you could knock in it)roll, we did not.
google avatar

Rebecca P.

Yelp
They have the best roasted turkey in the world. And the mayo they use is super tasty. That is all.
google avatar

Scott L.

Yelp
Best cheese selection and cold cuts out of Center City that they are in the Northeast
google avatar

Kristen G.

Yelp
Datillo's is the REAL DEAL. I didn't think I liked Italian hoagies till I came here and tried theirs. The Main Event sandwich is piled high with meat and fresh marinated veggies that set it apart from the rest. Plus that bread!! Fresh and soft on the inside, but with a lovely crust that has got some crisp to it. The roll really brings it home. My other purchases included a package of frozen P&S cheese ravioli (because they're the best), and some of Datillo's house-made rice pudding. The rice pudding was tasty and I would eat it again (I'm still loyal to Cozy Shack though - judge your hearts out). My coworker has brought in cured meats for me before because I have trouble finding certain varieties near me, and they are always awesome. Come here for an authentic Italian deli experience.
google avatar

Noreen S.

Yelp
I consider myself lucky to be so close to this wonderful store! I went last week to buy the meats and cheeses I needed to make Muffalettas. I had a screen shot of the ingredients but I took out my phone and it was dead. When I said I had to go get a charger cord Anthony Dattilo asked me what I was making, then rattled off every ingredient, changed the two loaves of bread that I had picked for flatter ones and showed me a jar of olive salad, which was already premixed with Jardiniere! The young man who sliced the meats was such a perfectionist that each 1/2 lb of slices looked like one thick chunk! I never saw anyone slice the sharp provolone so perfectly thin. Anthony then helped me carry the bags out and put them in my car. I don't have any plans to move from the neighborhood but if I did I'd have to drive back to Rhawnhurst every week just to go to Dattilo's!!
google avatar

Rich B.

Yelp
Decent place to get a hoagie. The Italian "Main Event" is very nice. Stuffed w/ meat, provolone, roasted peppers & artichokes for $8. Bread is good, but could be better. Jack's Place still remains the gold standard for hoagies in the N.E, and Philly in general. Deli items and cheeses never look fresh or appetizing. Large selection of other Italian products, but prices are a bit high.
google avatar

Judie D.

Yelp
Excellent deli. Very good hoagies. I love the fact that they carry all kinds of Italian meats since I love cooking Italian. The prosciutto that you find in the supermarket is most definitely not the same quality as Dattilo's carries. Same with their rolls. They're the right kind of roll. Hard outside, soft inner. Philadelphians know the difference, but supermarkets just don't get that. They carry all kinds of delicacies here. Even the juice brands here I've not found elsewhere and they are delicious. The guys working behind the counter are always extremely pleasant and fun to deal with. If ever you are unsure of something they're always willing to help, even allowing you to try out something before you make the purchase making your decision making easier. Thumbs up to Dattilos. Great place to grab a hoagie, real Italian deli, great bread, meats and other unique condiments.
google avatar

Lisa J.

Yelp
Italian Hoagie? Oh my, lord. The meat-to-lettuce-to-tomatoes-to-onions-to-banana peppers-ratio was perfect. Some oil, and the bread. Oh, the bread. A perfectly crusted, seeded roll with just the right amount of dough. I'm dying for one right now.

S D.

Yelp
Best kept secret in the neighborhood! Datilos' has everything you need for a quick bite, a great dinner or even a big party! Great service, quality products! An absolute must in Northeast Philly!
