The Best Late Night Food In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"Let’s face it, there are a lot of factors that might make your vision worse than normal late at night. You might wonder if you’re seeing double when you spot Katz's Deli and Datz Deli on the map, because they’re not too far from each other on the Lower East Side. Worse mistakes have been made. But on most nights, Datz is open later, and instead of pastrami on rye, you can get an indulgent oxtail and mac patty, shoved between two slices of coco bread. They’re open until 3am Thursday through Saturday, and 1am during the week, and their hearty Guyanese Caribbean food should send you into a blissful sleep." - willa moore, will hartman, neha talreja, bryan kim, sonal shah

Google
It’s good don’t get me wrong… but it’s like a do it once just to say you got it type thing. Wasn’t amazing, but it was cool. I got the kendra/oxtail option (oxtaildatmac sandwich). It was cool. But I wouldn’t get it again.i didn’t finish the sandwich, kinda feel like I should of just shared it with someone so we can try it.. but I didn’t finish my sandwich, too much bread for me. Very nice people though.

Rovik Robert

Google
Had the oxtail sandwich delivered and it was a flavor bomb that kept on giving. Great combination of the oxtail, mac and cheese, the puff and bread! Would try the other protein options in future.

Went in the store on a whim after realizing they opened one in the lower east side of the city. Bobby whose family owns the business was amazing he had a great vibe and was nice. We tried the ox tail mac and cheese patty with the coco bread and it did not disappoint. It was freshly made, and super filling so if you don’t eat a lot you could probably split one with someone else. We also ordered some fried Oreos and they were freshly made and amazing with the raspberry sauce and not overly sweet. Definitely will be going back to try the curry goat.

Google
I had the oxtail datmacpatty, and wow! it was very good. Friendly family and decent prices for manhattan. I will definitely be returning whenever I'm around this neighborhood. I prefer supporting the family owned businesses.

Google
Datz deli Delicious Jamaican sandwich at reasonable price and a welcoming owner Oxtail is a must, savory, juicy wrapped with crispy puff pastry Jerk, herby and spicy, so “Jamaican”, also wrapped with crispy puff pastry, added so much texture to the sandwich and you can dine in, there’s some seats inside if the sandwich can be a little bit warmer , it would be icing on the cake

Google
You can't find any fault in this little place. Great food, great service from Sunny and great vibe in the diner. Their Mac & Cheese Pattie are amazing.

Google
Walked by Datz Deli several times and finally stopped in to try it, glad I did! I got the Jerk Chicken Mac Patty... delicious 😋 so filling and they put plenty of meat and Mac & Cheese in it! The bread is do good too. Service was fantastic, Thank you Chris! Chris was friendly and had my sandwich made in no time! Chris also let me sample their new Sweet and Sour Chicken, so good!! I'll definitely be returning to try the Oxtail next or Sweet and Sour !! Or both🤦🏽‍♀️

Google
Watched a TikTok about this place and it did not disappoint. Smacks!! These beef patties are the most creative and delicious thing I’ve ever had. Absolutely must try for anyone that appreciates good Caribbean cooking. Definitely on point and I will be back.

Yelp
Delicious Delicious Delicious! A bus ride away from mid town. I think the owner took my order, very nice and friendly, i must say. I got the Kendra. Delicious! I already get my patties done like this , but to add mac n cheese is bussin' !! He gave me extra gravy.. and I was happy! The portions are big! I'll be back!

Yelp
I always wanted to try datz deli but their lines were too long at smorgasburg. Luckily I bumped into it on my way from getting bubble tea. I figure I get the original viral meal; beef patty mac and cheese coco bread. It was about $18 the service was ok the staff is fairly polite etc. besides patties datz deli sells a small selection of sea moss, drinks and snacks. Anyhow I liked the decor very artsy well out and bright . Ok so the party tasted slightly sweet I think I tasted tamarind. I asked for light Mac and cheese because I didn't want to be too full. The meal is actually good to share . It was tasty. It was super savory I might come back for the jerk chicken .

Yelp
Note to self - no more viral overpriced food. The idea of oxtail, mac and cheese, and extra gravy on a patty sounds mouthwatering, but as they say "everyone's so creative these days!". $32 for two patties, one oxtail mac & one curry chicken, made my heart hurt. The taste just didn't measure up to the hype built up by the viral videos. For the price I'd rather get 10 delicious patties at my local hole in the wall spot. I just can't recommend Datz.
google avatar

Jeffrey T.

Yelp
The sandwich was pretty good albeit smaller than one would expect. A lil pricey for the size. The patty was of superior quality than than handful I got to try in my short NY trip. Very flakey just wish there was more of it in the sandwich. The oxtail sauce on the top didn't really add much to the flavor of the sandwich and kinda just made it more difficult to eat but I see the vision and a tweak to how it's served or consistency would go a long way. Also there was some hard bits of what we thought were bone shards in our sandwich. Service was fast and apathetic.

Yelp
I had 24 hours in NYC and I had to visit Datz deli! Datz Deli stay popping up on Instagram! I visited the one on Clinton street. This one is very small. There is no seating area. I ordered the Hindu (jerk chicken) Mac patty. It is so good!! Flavorful! Easier to eat than I thought! Originally I said this will be something I will try 1X because it's over hyped. I was wrong!!! I will definitely visit again! Also the lady that assisted me was friendly, answered all my questions , and then thanked me for visiting.

Yelp
Ii so boom I really only had the oxtail and Mac beef patty and I can wholeheartedly say that it Is for a more specific crowd those people that want to say hey look at me I ate a $20 patty "I'm such a foodie" other than that great service great ambiance I definitely recommend if you've never tried it go try it you'll prolly never spend another $20 on a patty again but hey at least you tried it

Yelp
We got to try their famous oxtail sandwich. The sandwich I had braised oxtail with Mac and cheese within a beef patty and wrapped in coconut bread. This was a big sandwich and SO DELISH! The owners were also super nice, we got to speak to them for a bit and they recommend that we try the jerk chicken next time. The sandwich also came with a fried plantain. Overall it's a pricier sandwich but very unique and very flavorful. I would def come back to try the other sandwiches!

Yelp
On a recent visit I got to try the very popular Mac Patty. ( Beef Pattie on coco bread w/ Mac & cheese and your choice of topping) A friend had been raving about them for months, so I knew we needed to pay them a visit. My 1st thought was this is going to be a lot but, I can confirm it is in the best way! I watched the owner while she made it and I think I drooled a bit. lol! I had the oxtail Mac Patty on this visit. Omg! It's so good. Forewarning you, this is not a clean eat! You're going to get messy or make a mess! It hit every note, Sweet, savory, and crunchy. For 17.00 it was worth every penny. While here I also got to meet the innovator and learned this is their second location. On my next visit I'm going to have to try a few more flavors! Check them out!

Yelp
Black owned business that is thriving and pushing out this amazing concept of Macpatty Sando's. Slightly confusing upon arriving you cannot see the door but it's the left. Once walking in you feel all the Caribbean vibes. They have bevs and snacks available in addition to the main characters! Now to the food... I got the Curry Goat Macpatty. When ordering the lady did warn me of the small bones that may still be present in the curry. I suggest taking the sandwich off the menu. While curry goat is a staple, searching for small bones in a sandwich takes away from the experience. The sandwich overall was solid. The patty was flaky and flavorful. The curry was seasoned to perfection but the Mac was bland and lacked that ooey gooey cheese component.

Yelp
This place was literally the highlight of my trip! After seeing a fellow foodies IG video about this place I just knew I had to go try it for myself and it did not disappoint. I had the jerk chicken mac patty and WOW. Tbh you have to give this place a try for yourself. The flavors and textures in the Mac patty are delicious and I've honestly never had anything like this; kudos to Josh for such a delicious masterpiece. Would have loved to try other ones, but this sandwich is pretty thick lol! There was quite a few options like oxtail, shrimp, jerk chicken, bbq chicken and more to add onto your Jamaican patty, mac and cheese, and coco bread delicacy! I'd suggest keeping an eye on their social media like IG because I swear I saw a nice pepperpot they were cooking up near the holidays too! Their new location in the city is so cute and small; literally order and go. Momma Datz is a sweetheart and was so kind. I definitely won't hesitate to comeback whenever I'm in the city!

Yelp
Oh man where do I begin ! We have been waiting to try this spot the moment they opened ! Especially knowing about their new location , we made sure to include this in our plans to New York. And we dedicated a whole hour just for this spot to try their amazing macaroni beef patties. And just as we anticipated , great taste, presentation , and overall amazing! Jamaican patty stuffed with macaroni and jerk chicken cooked to perfection with cheesy greatness. Interior is a great presentation , smaller, but worth the wait and time. As soon as you walk in the door you get rushed with amazing carribean spices and vibes. Definitely have to make my way out there again when I visit New York!

Yelp
You will not be disappointed! The customer service was cool . Service was quick. Food's dooe... munchies dream

Yelp
If you want to treat yourself a very awesome combo of Mac and cheese with oxtail and fried plantains made with the Jamaican patty.. Yummy cheesy we'll season oxtail.. The decor is very colorful and welcoming, there is a full menu of other delicious items.. Talk about service with a smile.. The owners were so welcoming and they help make the experience so effortless..I got a warm feeling leaving with all my goodies. The aroma makes it hard to choose. If you want to treat yourself it's the place to make many visits

Yelp
Ok so I've been craving this beef patty with Mac n cheese and ox tail combo for a while now. So I ended up at this location on Clinton street. Once you order the lady that puts this goodness together is really nice. You're getting this put together with a bit of love. Really though she was cool takes her time and makes sure your patty is packed with goodness. The place itself is small so it can get crowded quick. Now I wanted to try this so bad I went right in inside the location at their counter top lol. When I tell you that first bite was everything. I couldn't stop eating. You really taste all parts of this patty. The Mac n cheese was on point and also the ox tail. I had to buy another one just on how good that one was. I can't wait to try the jerk chicken one next time. Definitely try this out you will not regret it.

Yelp
I have wanted to try this place, I might've come too late in the day. The bread was stale and crusty, the guy that served me was less than willing to help me because he didn't want to get off his phone. I chose the jerk chicken and mac & cheese, there's not a lot of mac & cheese in the sandwich, honestly the bread is really ruining it for me, and the dry chicken. I paid $19 for the sandwich and I did expect more.

Yelp
Was so happy to hear that this beautiful family owned and run business was expanding to one of my favorite neighborhoods in the boroughs. After having stood at least an hour on line in the sweltering heat in the summer time at their queens location I was so delighted there was basically no wait time to snag myself one of these. I came by around noon on a Sunday and got myself a veggie patty stuffed with Mac on coco bread. Their signature is of course the beef patty but I learned today that while the rest of the menu is halal the beef patties are not! But loved and appreciated all can enjoy the famous viral Mac/patty/coco bread combo because they make veggie patties as well. Even in their little lower east side deli, the family is there and running the show. The reason this is not a five star is because I found the entire thing lacking in flavor. I wish there was a little more seasoning and some kick to the veggies or even the Mac and cheese. I imagine that having oxtail or their other meats added is what does tend to give the flavor but as someone who wanted only the base/basic choice, the added flavor would've gone a long way. Still enjoyable though! My tip is that anyone interested in trying this viral item come to the LES for it instead of waiting on long lines in queens. There's also no seating so go to Essex market to sit at one of their tables.

Yelp
While most viral food sensations do not live up tocthe hype, Datz Deli those so and more. Their macpatties are truly a delight. The oxtail one is a favorite l, but you can customize. Happy to have Guyanese cuisine so well represented in NY. Definitely recommend a visit. The service is always nice and the ambiance is typical Ny.

Kenneth B.

Yelp
I would have pictures to show but I ate the patty too fast. Anyway, the oxtail mac patty I pure ridiculousness. Packing meat, flavor, and whimsicalness the patty was something to keep you coming back again and again. The gentlemen at the counter were cool and the location is pretty decent as well. This will either be my first or last stop upon my next visit to NY.

B T.

Yelp
The mac patty had great flavor, curry was perfect, patty crust was flaky, shrimp were good, slightly over, coco bread was alright. Everything combined into one sandwich is slightly wild, really have to be in the right mood for it. Service was great. Out of some other things, so if you're looking for something outside the mac patty, you probably want to visit by around lunchtime.
google avatar

Manuel R.

Yelp
Is the McPatty yummy? Sure. Is it worth almost $20? With that oxtail ratio, a strong no.

Justina L.

Yelp
Food is good but whoever the mom is sitting in a lawn chair in the middle of the kitchen is beyond rude. Learn how to talk to customers . She over charged me and made a nasty comment. The son was very kind. Xoxo Boo

Yelp
Amazing flavors. Staff was super nice and welcoming. Definitely coming back. 50/10...

Yelp
I hit this spot up the night of my birthday on Thursday, January 18th, 2024. My cousins and I absolutely LOVED it. We ordered three different Mac Patty's. One oxtail Mac Patty. One goat curry Mac Patty. One Jerk chicken Mac Patty and a plate of Jerk Chicken over rice. Not pictured two chicken curry plates which we took home for my family. My parents loved it. It's Worth the price and the hype! Ganesh and his staff were mad cool. Love a place with great customer service. He told us his family's story of why this food shop was created. Man, this food is made with love for real. Their food was incredible. I highly recommend it. I can't wait to go back and grub at the spot. Go stop off and pay them a visit.

Yelp
amazing food, comfortable environment, and even better service. had the mac patty and it was as delicious as advertised. the service was equally as good!! definitely a must eat if you're visiting new york.

Scott P.

Yelp
The food is actually incredible flavors. Great oxtail, jerk chicken and curry. I just wish they all came spicier. The Mac and cheese has great cheese taste and it's a good experience. No sweating so just take your food to go and eat it elsewhere so no atmosphere and service but if you came for good food you got it.

Kevin L.

Yelp
I ordered an oxtail patty. It was savory and rich, but kind of one-note, and at $18 I felt it was overpriced for what I got. I think it could have used more acidity to balance out the richness. The service was friendly though.
google avatar

Kay J.

Yelp
Hands down the food is simply delicious! Everyone is polite. You really can't ask for anything better. I'll definitely be back.

Jahmera R.

Yelp
Food: For the price point was not impressed. The individual ingredients did not taste well seasoned and the balance of the mac patties were unfortunate. For context I ordered the ox tail mac patty and the jerk chicken mac patty. The jerk chicken was loaded with protein and mad it difficult to enjoy the layers of each ingredient. The texture of the protein itself was soggy and unflavoured. Meanwhile, the oxtail lacked oxtail tremendously! To the point I forgot i was eating oxtail. The patty was assembled sloppily with concentrated areas of mac and cheese, sauces, beef patty meat, etc. Each bite was as though you were eating one ingredient a time. Not a full robust of flavour and profiles working together to make a memorable bite. Considering the price point, unacceptable! A huge contention for me was NOTHING was freshly made. Everything was pulled from a subway style line and assembled on a rather messy and unkept line. HIGHLY unacceptable as I could only imagine how long those ingredients have been there. For the price point, nothing is made to order and prices should reflect this. The ingredients did not taste fresh and the beef patty was most likely freezer bought, the meat was also unflavoured and was extremely concentrated in one area of the patty which made it extremely mush. Service: When walking into this establishment you're greeted with a sign that highlights the viral-ness of the business. For the amount of traffic it's extremely unacceptable the lack of staffing there. It was one woman behind the counter taking orders and assembling sandwiches which made the wait time longer than necessary if appropriate staffing was employed for their "viral" location. Atmosphere: Adding to the wait time guest are crammed into this tight area with no seating provided nor central air. There is a sliding door style entrance which remained closed on a rather hot day. 90 F to be exact. The space provided to enter was a the fraction of the size of a normal sized door. WHY?!?! This absolutely cut off the circulation of the space making for a code violating and dangerous space if a necessary evacuation occurred. I felt extremely unsafe in the rather sketchy urban environment with little room for escape routes due to the tiny entrance. The CO2 built up from the guest made me dread waiting in this space. As customers waited in this sauna for the cashier/line cook in dead silence, you can notice the steam building on the surfaces and beads of sweat on customers forming, visible with a naked eye. Each minute felt like you were standing on the MTA, shoulder to shoulder, during rush hour minus the central air. Again unacceptable considering the price point!! Overall this restaurant exudes how sensationalism and media presence takes the place of quality food and service. I would not recommend and more than ever will be wary of viral food. UPDATE. After reading the replies of the owner on other complaint I can assume this establishment is benefiting from being viral and will probably degrade in the little quality they have over time. Moreover, will do little to improve their operations. It reflects greed, money grabbing, and poor customer service. Know who you're supporting!

Yelp
Amazing!! I Live in Bk and have made it at least once a week with my son to get the Oxtail Mac and cheese, it is delicious and filling and well worth the trip and money.

Yelp
Sunny is the best , makes you feel like your family. The oxtail patties are . Definitely got to check this spot out
google avatar

Earl T.

Yelp
I was told about a patty that had Mac & cheese on top of oxtails.. when I tried this creation I was speechless AMAZING talk about a party in your mouth yum yum I was so surprised by the way the flavors blended so nicely together, I ate the whole thing with out saying one word...
google avatar

Y L.

Yelp
The oxtail beef patties with Mac and cheese. A great new way for a patty. I find the is really no oxtail meet in there more like oxtail gravy only and was a tad bit salty

Quin D.

Yelp
They have a huge sign that says no refund and I can tell why. Here's a list of things I found in my sandwich. All I said was the jerk chicken with mac and cheese and wasn't rude so it couldn't have been on purpose: Hair (literally a long hair just laid ON TOP of the sandwich) Hair (in the sandwich this time) An entire 4 inch long sprig of thyme Multiple other sticks of thyme Also I had the worst stomach ache I've had in NYC. Not worth the stomach ache even without the hairs and sticks in the sandwich.

Shawon R.

Yelp
The mac and cheese was a delightful surprise, with its creamy texture and rich, cheesy flavor that left me wanting more. However, the jerk chicken was a different story. It was overly salty, which overshadowed the spices and flavors that I was looking forward to. The saltiness left me disappointed and wishing for a better balance of seasoning. Overall, while the mac and cheese was a hit, the jerk chicken fell short of expectations.

P M.

Yelp
I just left Datz Deli on the Lowe East side. Since I am in NY I had planned to get some authentic Guyanese food. I was initially going to check out their main location in Queens but then saw that they recently opened a location in the lower East side. They opened this second location within a year of their first location. I had the macpatty with chicken curry and also got a bottle of sorrel. The macpatty was like 2 meals in one. Come with an appetite to eat. It was nice combination of the beef patty, curry and Mac and cheese. Though this location is small, you can eat at the counter. The owners are very nice and helpful. For the Guyanese that may be in Manhattan on a short trip and are craving that taste of home but don't have time to go to Queens or Brooklyn then check out Datz Deli in the lower East side!

Eric H.

Yelp
I expected Mac and oxtail between two Jamaican patties, I received a under filled patty in between the worst hamburger bun ever

Austin W.

Yelp
These Mac Patties are a national treasure. I stumbled in on a whim. The crew of stoned fellas sating their munchies were kind and social. They were losing their minds over the BBQ Chx Mac Patties. My friend and I got Oxtail and Goat Curry Mac Patties. We started chatting with the guy behind the counter -- I'm pretty sure this is his business. He mentioned his Ma works it during the days, so maybe it's a mother-son duo. Super cute. I did not anticipate how deeply delicious this would be. Do it! Get the Mac Patty!

Capree C.

Yelp
Loved Staff! Myself and my friends decided to stop here on our way to Philly, and the food was very good!

Richie R.

Yelp
Amazing food! Food just tastes so good. Owner was very nice and humble. You wouldn't even know they owned the spot. 10/10!
