THANK YOU for coming to Fort Greene! I am so grateful that I no longer have to cross a bridge into Manhattan for some family-friendly fun.
Prior to their arrival, the only available option for kids at the Atlantic Center was a major disappointment. Everything is so shiny, new, and functional.
With the high temps that we have been experiencing lately, this location became our oasis. I mean, forget the cooling center, I'll just come over here whenever the summer heat becomes unbearable. You can't beat the air conditioning, variety of games, food, and clean restrooms just a few feet away. What more could you ask for when everything you need is under one roof.
I LOVED the card refill station, which could have been more centralized on the floor, but I am glad nonetheless that I do not need to wait in line or for an associate. It is pretty easy to use except the low lighting made it a bit challenging to input the correct info using the keypad. The cost was pretty reasonable too.
Look around - left, right, up, and down - there were games in every direction. I really expected a crowd, but I was wrong. It is surprising though considering that it is located on Atlantic Avenue, near the Barclays Center, a transit hub, housing developments, and a commercial district. It is so quiet too. You just come in as you are and play as long as you like. Bonus: Security guards stand at either entrance to check IDs because minors must be accompanied by an adult. ***ahhh*** peace and quiet + civilized behavior = stress-free fun.
We didn't make time for food, because we zeroed in on the arcade games - scoring big with the claw resulting in a bigger bank of tickets to walk away with cool prizes from the shop. One of my favorite games was the life-size Hungry, Hungry Hippos. My competitive side made an appearance at the race track when my son tried to zoom past me. Nope! He loved the Dance Dance Revolution. The variety of games was great to attract customers of all ages and gaming levels.
It was so fun to pull away from the computer and neverending work routine to reconnect with my inner child, family, and friends.
