Counting Down the Best Restaurants in Marietta | Eater Atlanta

"Named for the seasoned pitmaster behind the smoker, this family-run, trophy-laden smokhouse on Whitlock Avenue represents half of the Sam and Dave’s barbecue empire that sadly split in 2009. A long-running barbecue champion, Dave continues his 34-year tenure with a menu anchored by tender, oak-and-hickory-smoked pork, brisket, ribs, and wings. The award-winning flavors draw crowds to this unpretentious strip-mall joint, where plates come piled high with Southern sides like tangy pineapple-poppyseed coleslaw, creamy baked beans, collard greens, and cult-favorite Redneck Lasagna (mac and cheese smothered in Brunswick stew)." - Sarah Bisacca

The brisket was very dry and tough on my second visit. The first time I came it was much better. The mac and cheese and green beans were good both times. On my second visit, I just got the brisket and mac and cheese. Mac was great again, but the brisket was a big letdown. It seemed like it had potential, but I’m not spending $25 again for a coin flip on whether the meat’s edible. Giving it 3 stars because the sides were consistently good. Hopefully it was just an off day. If you’re looking for consistently good brisket, Heirloom Market or Owens and Hull are the way to go.

Google
Oh Lawdy! I just had the best 'cue in the city, and let me tell you - it's a real pitmaster's paradise! The brisket's just as tender as a toddler! It's like my grandma's cookin', but without makin' me say grace first! Them burnt ends are like little crispy devils dancin' on my tongue, and I'm here for it! Ribs so good, you'll wanna slap your momma (just kidding, momma's cool). Flavors so wild, it's like a party in my mouth and even Jay-Z's invited! Get the combo plate, trust. 10/10 would recommend, and one thing is fo sho, I'll be back fo mo! But just a quick warning, after this sweet BBQ cruise, your gonna need to snooze!

The Mac and cheese is good here. Overall a really good BBQ spot

Google
Great first visit! Cashier was super nice and helpful I did not catch her name but wanted to mention her in my review because she was so nice. If she sees this: Thank you! I ordered the rib plate with mac n cheese and collards then added a side of pulled pork. Dang it was all so good. The ribs were my favorite and they gave me a huge portion I believe it was 7 ribs! Very generous portions here. The mac n cheese was wonderful. Adding this place to my list of fav mac n cheese. I was unable to eat all my food so I took it home and it reheated beautifully in the oven the next day. Definitely going back and definitely recommend it if you are looking for some good BBQ!

Google
This is the best BBQ I've ever had!! The meat is tender and ribs are fall off the bone good. Sides are outstanding. Ever try the award winning Mac & Cheese? If not, you're missing out. The guys are the best and next time your in try the redneck lasagna.

I moved to the Atlanta area 3 years ago and I have yet to find a decent BBQ place anywhere near here Take Dave Poe's for example Upon pulling into the parking lot and couldn't figure out what was missing I should've known immediately. The great smell of a BBQ pit smoke in the air, tempting anyone nearby was missing The inside was very clean but smelled more like cleaning supplies than BBQ , but hey, the place was clean I was greeted by a young man who seemed more interested in shooting the breeze with his coworkers in back, rather than answering a question Almost $30 later (including tip) for a sandwich, 2 sides and a drink my order number was called What was on my plate was a heap of unseasoned brisket and what tasted like Publix side items As previously mentioned, the brisket was obviously unseasoned, there was no bark on the outside, and no smoke ring It was just a pile of chewy wet meat Good BBQ doesn't rely on sauce to make it good Good BBQ stands on its own, and the sauce compliments it This place was the equivalent of a JR. High cafeteria with a unmotivated staff, high prices, and decent Texas toast I'm convinced that nobody in Georgia has decent BBQ, as this place makes my recommendation record would be 0-32 after this disappointment Georgia can't do smoked meat right, and thanks to Dave Poe's blah offering, I'm going to stop looking 2 stars for toast and iced tea

Google
Was here for an event and the food was absolutely phenomenal! I got to meet Dave Poe himself, an incredible person. I highly recommend the pulled pork and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese is rich and creamy, and the pulled pork is full of bold Smokey flavor!

Wow! I don't usually eat my most loved food (BBQ). BUT when I do I want it to be so good you'd consider smacking someone. 😋 Well I happened across so of the best BBQ I've had the plot enjoying in quite some time. DAVE POE'S BBQ. If you don't know of or haven't heard about them let me put you up to speed on Dave Poe's. No doubt about it. I've been missing out all these years on one of the most awarded food spots around. I can now tell you 1st hand ✋️ they deserve every award. I had the pulled pork lunch special. I was shaking my head in approval with each & every bite. The staff was busy delivering orders but still friendly. The customers were so friendly also like they had been coming there for years. So not to get too long winded I'll leave you with this. I've already planned another visit with some friends to try more from the menu. I'd highly recommend you plan one too and let me know what you think. Check out the pictures for more info.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch. Had a photo of my plate that i somehow lost in the save process. Nice spot with kind service. You can see they support the Dawgs and the Tide. I had the brisket plate with sides of mac n cheese and coleslaw. The mac n cheese was the star. Large penne style noodles in a real good smooth and flavorful cheese sauce. The coleslaw was pretty solid with a good balance of sweet and acid. The brisket was ok. The brisket was sliced but had a little too much fat throughout and it was lukewarm. It is a popular spot and we arrived just prior to the lunch rush.

Yelp
Terrible BB Ribs- tough, fatty, grizzle. Brisket tough and tasted funny. Mac & Cheese bland and used large noodles that seemed like it was anything they could find. Just horrible food all around.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good as usual, but it took almost 15 minutes for a BBQ sandwich and fries. There was 1 order ahead of mine. Cooks in the kitchen talking loudly and moving slowly. I usually love this place but what a disappointment today. The complete lack of soap in the men's room was disconcerting.

Debra W.

Yelp
I purchased baby back ribs they were only ok. The membrane was not pulled off the ribs. One time visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good. Hot things were hot hold things cold. Meat super juicy and tender. The only thing was the slaw needed some acid like some vinegar in the sauce. Too mayonnaisey. But on time and good.

Yelp
i was so excited to come to dave poes because its listed as top #10 BBQ in atlanta. i was so disappointed with my experience. we came on a saturday for early lunch right at noon. there was no line luckily the place was kinda empty. we placed an order for 1/2 lb brisket, 1/2 rack of baby back ribs, pint of collard greens, & pint of baked beans. it took about 15ish minutes to get our order which we werent expecting since most bbq places already have everything ready. the only decent item was the baked beans which isnt saying much. they were fine. the collard greens tasted just like plain soggy collard greens 0 flavor. the brisket was pretty bad. didnt have flavor either and was dry. the worst part was the ribs...none of us could stomach them they had such a weird bad taste. something wasnt right.

Yelp
Saturday I was working in the kitchen area, changing ceiling lights, so I had tools, a big ladder about, so I went to Dave Poe's to bring dinner home. Pulled chicken, with Carolina BBQ sauce, mac n cheese and slaw. It was a perfect Saturday night dinner. That is such a good menu, honestly, I could have everything on it, it's tough to narrow it down. Cheers.

Yelp
Brisket on the fatty side and St Louis Ribs wasn't that tender. Collard and Baked Bean were okay. Fried pie could have been cooked longer.

Trace P.

Yelp
First time trying out Dave Poe's today. Not sure if it's normally this busy or just because it was July 4th. I waited 20 minutes in line to order and then waited another 40 minutes to get my food. I tried the pulled pork sandwich and the Mac n cheese. The sandwich was really good and came with pickles and their sweet barbecue sauce. The macaroni was very cheesy and had a nice cheese crust on top. Overall, the food was very good and I'll probably come back again. I would recommend coming right when they open or not having any plans for the afternoon.

Rich Bryan H.

Yelp
Had the brisket plate with collard greens and potato salad. The brisket was tender and well seasoned. Collard greens were tender and well prepared and the potato salad was a good tasty portion. I also appreciated the selections of their signature sauces. Good "go to" place for lunch or dinner. Just off the Marietta Square on Whitlock with ample parking.

Yelp
It's hard to compare a bbq place like this with the amazing places I have been thru Nashville, Dallas, Austin, Vegas, Memphis, etc. My favorites are Pecan Lodge, Peg Leg Porker, Salt Lick, Snows, etc. I have not found anything local in the same league but I have to take my current location into consideration and the local options that are offered. If I were comparing just to the local places here and lack of good bbq in the area it would be a 4. Sadly 3.5 is not an option on this platform. The not so good- - I always feel a little off when I am asked to add a tip at the register for food that is not served to me. I guess the option could be there for to-go orders but just feels odd when I haven't even eaten or seen the food yet. I gave a little bit because I didn't want to be "that guy" who doesn't tip. Its a pay at the counter get your food there kinda place. - It may life post COVID but it feels strange not offering a counter with napkins, salt, etc or have any placed on tables. I did get a few napkins with my meal but I'm a messy eater and felt like I needed to eat cleaner so I didn't run out. I did not see salt, pepper extra utensils anywhere. For a BBQ place this part was odd for me. -I only had one type of BBQ sauce given with my meal. I would love to try different flavors if available. There were no sauces available at the tables, the counter or the area where drinks are. To get a small container of one type didn't give me the bbq experience I would have liked. -The pulled pork was just ok. I appreciate it had the pink smoke ring but it was somewhat "slippery". (You can see it in the pics). It wasn't horrible but it wasn't amazing or would cause me to go out of my way to try again. -The mac and cheese was the only kind I have ever had where I had to cut it with a knife. I think maybe getting the top layer with the baked cheese it was not anything I could cut through with a fork getting a bite. You can tell in the pic the hard layer at top. I wouldn't call this bad, just wanted to note it. The good - -The mac and cheese, even with the hard top layer of cheese, was pretty good. The onion rings were very good, nice batter and fried to perfection. - I appreciate the to go cups for drinks and refill station giving me the ability to take a drink with me when finished. -The service was good and everyone seemed to love their job. If this were not true I believe it would show and I sat in a position where I could hear them interact with every customer and each other. - It has that non chain feel where everyone is family. The people in the parking lot who I don't even know sparking conversation and friendly faces and service inside with the decor make this place have charm that a lot of places today just lack and I appreciate that. Overall when someone gets BBQ its the experience with the food and service. If sauce options, napkins, salt/utensil station were added It would be a 4 for me. I would love to go back to try the ribs, wings and other items, I just won't drive an hour again to do so.

Yelp
Came here with a couple of coworkers, who swore this place has the best BBQ in town. Ordering process: you pick your items from the menu board, order them at the counter, grab a table and wait for your number to be called out. Lady behind the counter was very nice and helpful. I ordered a Baby back ribs plate with a side of green beans and collards. It also comes with a toast and pickles but I opted for corn bread instead. The food was ok but not my favorite. The ribs weren't as juicy as I would have liked, the corn bread was very soft and mushy with a weird aftertaste, probably from jalapenos. I prefer a corn muffin style with a crispy top and soft warm center. Collards were slightly bitter. The décor here is quirky - little pigs everywhere, trophies won, car license plates from around the country, and random posters from years past. They also have a few tables outside but with a view of parking lot.

Yelp
Good tasting BBQ with excellent sides. If you own a restaurant, you have to put a good product on the table and Dave Poe and his team does just that.

Jane D.

Yelp
This food was awesome. I purchased a rib plate with Brunswick stew and Mac and cheese. I am a Mac and cheese snob. I am making a trip back for the Mac and Cheese to keep in my freezer! I will be back and will post photos the next time.

Yelp
The bbq and pitmaster are supposedly of legend in this area. What I bought ($100) today could not have been the work of Dave Poe. I am completely disappointed with the smoked Meats(Ribs, Pulled Chicken, and Brisket) which all were underwhelming. These Meats lacked flavor, tenderness, and seasoning. It seemed as if what I received was left over from the previous day or sat in the warmer way to long. The brisket tasted like pot roast without an ounce of moisture. The ribs were from a young hog which meant the bones were small and the meat was dry. Lastly, the chicken though pulled had some flavor, but was dry and needed a lot of bbq sauce. The sides were Mac n Cheese and Baked Beans. The Mac N Cheese was the best thing in the purchase. I don't know exactly what was in the baked beans but whatever it was made then thick like oatmeal. This was my first time at the restaurant. I had such high expectations due to who Dave Poe was to BBQ in the area. I could have spent have the money and got the same quality at Sonny's.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for awhile now, and I'm really glad I finally did. DELICIOUS!!! Got the baby back rib plate, and it was a generous portion of goodness, with their signature Mac & cheese (crazy good) and fried okra (also delicious). They even let me try their Redneck Lasagna as a taster, which slapped so HARD!!! Hospitality was on point and I will definitely be coming back for more. Yum yum in my tum tum !

Sarah F.

Yelp
We wanted to like this place so much, but just didn't. The first time we came they closed early because they ran out of meat. The second time we came at 5:00. They were out of okra, brisket and baked potatoes. We ordered pulled pork and some other sides. Everything was ok. Nothing but the Mac and cheese was great. The pork was cold and a little fatty. Not worth the effort and risk to come back.

Lauren T.

Yelp
We ate there and won't be back. The food was cold over salted and over cooked. The okra tasted like it was fried and then microwaved. The hot dog they served my kid was some kind of Frankenstein meat.

Patti N.

Yelp
Just awful. I ordered the baby back ribs and they were fatty, the sauce was nasty -- like everything was cooked several days ago. The onion rings were greasy. I threw the whole order in the trash. Not edible.

Sheila H.

Yelp
Great food never disappoints. Mac n cheese very good prices great. Close to my home parking good.

Yelp
My fiance and I really enjoyed our meal here recently. Tucked away in a quiet, unassuming location at the corner of a little strip mall is Dave Poe's. Once you step inside, it feels like home - a very laid-back, comfortable atmosphere. All the workers who helped us were very nice, and the food itself was excellent. We ordered way too much, but if you want leftovers, this is the place to go. We ordered a pound each of the brisket and pulled pork, and we ordered a pint each of the macaroni and cheese, potato salad, and baked beans. Everything had great flavor, and the meats were nice and tender. I think my fiance and I are partial to the kalua pork we know and love from back home in Hawaii, so the brisket tasted better to us than the pulled pork. However, both were good items. We ordered a fried apple pie a couple minutes after we put in our main order and ended up having to wait quite awhile for it after the main food came out, but it was no big issue. The pie was reminiscent of a McDonald's apple pie, but it was pretty good. Overall, we would definitely come back here when we want some good BBQ. We spent over $50 here, but for the portions, flavor, and quality, we felt like it was well worth the money. Next time, we'd probably just get regular sized plates though - as that would be more than enough, get strictly brisket, and pass on the apple pie.

Yelp
It's just the best BBQ - and the sides... omgosh, so good. You can't go wrong with any item on the menu. If you are in Marietta, you've got to give them a try!

Vegas n.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that every bite of the BBQ chicken was simply delicious. The flavors and textures blended perfectly to create a heavenly taste that lingered in your mouth. The seasoning was spot-on, and the balance of flavors was just right. Mindy was very knowledgeable of the menu, and she forced me to taste the mac and cheese in which I did not want; but once I tried it, I had to take some home. In conclusion, I would say that the food was exceptional in every way. The combination of flavors, freshness, presentation, and impeccable cooking made it a delightful experience. I truly made an excellent choice, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious bbq meal.
google avatar

Kathy M.

Yelp
Best brisket around! Great service. Oh yes, the macaroni and cheese is divine. We always go here for our BBQ fix.

Jonella G.

Yelp
Brunswick stew is bland and watery, like they tried to make it go further by adding water. Canned everything. The pulled chicken was very dry, and the ribs don't even look edible. I wouldn't be surprised if the food was cooked yesterday.
google avatar

M G.

Yelp
Dave Poe catered my birthday dinner. Ribs, Brisket and Chicken. Sides were Mac n cheese, greens and slaw. Everything was ready, hot and on time. Sauce was provided and very generous. Serving setups were provided (returned after). Everyone loved the food and several took plates home from the leftovers. The store itself is a simple BBQ restaurant not fine dining, but the food is definitely the star! I am a regular. Thanks Dave!

Jesse R.

Yelp
Good solid bbq, they always forget something in my take out order which is frustrating but the food is tasty

Weezie K.

Yelp
My Dad picked up some Mac n cheese this weekend and brought it to our family event. It was the very best Mac n cheese I've ever tasted. I will not come to Georgia again without picking up some!!
google avatar

Yelp
Stumbled across Dave Poe's while on lunch at work. I love bbq so instantly I felt I was in for a treat. I ordered the brisket meal with the Mac and cheese and string beans for my sides. The string beans were great and so was the Mac and cheese. I love the noodle choice and the cheeses they blend for this dish. It was really good and the star of the plate. However, I saw this as a pro and a con, as the brisket was underwhelming. It seemed over cooked, almost reheated. It wasn't as marbled as what I was used to and was lean. This usually wouldn't be a problem, but it was a little dry. The sauce was decent. It was more smoky then sweet and had a really thin consistency. Overall I'd say 3.5 out of 5. I'll be back but I'd have to be close and in the mood for the Mac.
google avatar

Christian R.

Yelp
Excellent barbecue. Good smokehouse taste with generous portions. They also cater parties and private events.

Wayne J.

Yelp
Order pulled pork or ribs but not brisket. Brisket was moist but no flavor. Brisket has no smoke ring or bark and as a brisket snob those missing things equal no go for me. I've yet to find better brisket in Atlanta than Foxx Bros and it's not even close.
google avatar

Danah H.

Yelp
I've been to Dave Poe's a couple of times thinking I'm missing something because of all the great reviews. I always seem to think why are they not cleaning the tables off when people leave. Anyways on to the food, I ordered the pulled pork special which comes with one side and a tea. The pulled pork sandwich was ok but nothing to write home about. I'm a Texas raised gal and have traveled all over the country and I do like all different types of BBQ even Carolina vinegar based sauce. The sandwich was like a small burger size and the side of potato salad was a small scoop which was sweet but bland. The okra was nice and lightly breaded but they forgot my baked beans. At $2.95 per side I wants my beans! I called in to let them know and the girl that answered said matter of factly "oh yeah, if you come in we'll give you some". Nice to know since I paid for it. I don't know if the only have family working there or not but they need to work on customer service what I seen while waiting on my order which took to long considering it was the special. I think the food is okay but the overall friendliness of the place was lacking. Yes I would eat there again when close by and wanting BBQ.

Greg T.

Yelp
Dave Poe's is terrific. Best brisket I have had in the Atlanta area and that is my go-to when I visit. Dave's mac and cheese is exceptional, as well. It is a regular stop in our restaurant rotation.
google avatar

Chrissy A.

Yelp
Pretty solid little BBQ joint. I had the pulled chicken which was more like chopped chicken but it was really good. I had the side of Brunswick Stew which I had never had before, man this is my new jam. I could have had the pint of just this and been happy. My husband had the half chicken and Mac and cheese. He loved the Mac and cheese. Really good food. I love traveling and finding places like this.

Yelp
Who would have guessed this little hole in the wall strip mall restaurant would be the BOMB. The Mac n cheese is to die for, the meat is full of flavor, fatty (but not too much) and just all around delicious. My mom gets their Mac n cheese catered for big events/dinners we have and it's my absolute favorite. The greens were also very good and full of flavor. The onion rings were crispy yet soft. Definitely a hidden gem in the Marietta community!
google avatar

Alyssa H.

Yelp
Yum! This is the best BBQ in town. Get the redneck lasagna. Trust me. The ribs are also to die for!
google avatar

Scott K.

Yelp
Wow, great BBQ and great customer service. Cool little place for some really really good bbq.
google avatar

George H.

Yelp
Very very very good pork. Staff is friendly place is clean prices are right. Mac and cheese was delicious not your traditional they use a larger noodle, however it works well with the flavors of the Mac and cheese. Also had the redneck lasagna it was pretty darn good tasted exactly like lasagna. Ribs were good as well, brisket is soso but this is Georgia pork country.

Yelp
If you are not from the South then you haven't had killer BBQ. Sorry California there is only one place I have found that comes close and that is J-B's BBQ in Gardenia. We took our family of 9 there for dinner. The pulled pork is to die for. Super moist and tender with just enough smokey flavor to keep you wanting more. The brunswick stew was killer as well although my mom prefers the more tomato based stew served at Williams Brothers. Me I thought is was out of bounds. Nice portions and awesome service. What tickled me the most is Southerners love sweet tea and you could tell by the 5 sweet to 1 unsweetened dispensers. lol Awesome job now put a store in Bakersfield please!!!!

Kerri G.

Yelp
Yikes. We ordered ribs. They said "brisket?" And I said "nope. Baby back ribs". We got... you guessed it. Brisket. Charged for a full rack of ribs tho. I ordered pulled chicken. I got sliced chicken tenderloin.

Nicole W.

Yelp
Outstanding! They catered my husbands birthday party, every single person complemented the food. It's so good! Will for sure be using their service again

Yelp
The beef is very soft and tender. There are great side options to choose from. First time dining and was enjoyable.

Yelp
Loving my city & everything in it!!!! Spending the 4th of July on the Marietta Square with good friends was such a great way to round off the 4th of July holiday, but I had to tell everyone about my experience with Dave Poe's BBQ. The food was soooo good, I can honestly say it's the best BBQ around. After seeing my Yelp buddy Wynter F. Check in to this place, I decided to go ahead and stop in. I knew that I was in the right place after seeing that they were actually out of spare ribs ( LOL ) and Jalapeño Cornbread muffins, yet the line was still long. I ended up ordering the baby back ribs plate which came with 2 sides and Texas toast. I order mac & cheese and collard greens since they were not serving any fried sides this particular day . The mac & cheese was a little different than what I was use to, but yummy, the collard greens were good also, but the baby back ribs ( the star of this show) were delicious, so tender they fell right off the bone. They had just the right amount of sauce on them - perfect. The food was also priced well, I was really expecting to pay more for the portions I received. The restaurant was very clean, and also very busy with mostly carry out orders. I can't wait to return, while waiting in line, another patron and I were very interested in finding out about the Redneck lasagna :-) ( interesting name huh??? ) I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for some good BBQ!!!!

Yelp
It's been 6 years since I've been to Dave Poe's, and this place still has the magic. A friend took me here on MLK day in 2011, or should I say a friend got me to take him here on MLK day in 2011. The mac n cheese was so memorable that I've often thought back to it over the years. I found myself thinking of that Mac & Cheese so much the other day that I started googling BBQ joints in Marietta GA. When I was Dave Poes I immediately realized this was the place I had gone to several years ago. I went back today and I'll be back again before another 6 years pass.

Faith B.

Yelp
Hands down the best BBQ in the entire State of Georgia. The service is top notch every single time. Highly recommend!!

Jim N Julie P.

Yelp
They used to be my go to BBQ when I wanted good BBQ that I could order and dine in or take home... and was close to my house! Not anymore, I gave it two more tries and each I walked away disappointed. The food tasted like "leftovers" that didn't taste good to begin with ..but, you were too lazy to cook something fresh and delicious. And, yes, they were hardly warm to the touch!!! Not going back in a million years...Dave, what happened?
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
Dave Poe serves up your basic BBQ, with an extra helping of American pride. I've tried BBQ throughout the south and these meats are about middle of the road. Hopefully they didn't come from there though. The sides felt a bit like an afterthought. They were kinda... well... Poe-ely executed. The coleslaw needed something. The flavor was just flat, without any sweetness, kick, or anything to make it stand out. The baked beans were what you might get from a can off the grocery store shelf. They tasted good enough but didn't offer anything beyond that and some extra fiber. Would I go back? Sure. Being from out of town, it's possibly the better BBQ option in the Marietta area. I think I'd just get something different next time. Could've been an off day. The place was packed at lunchtime so there must be something the locals know.

Yelp
This used to be Sam and Dave's BBQ2, but Sam and the two Daves broke up and now this place is just called Dave Poe's BBQ. Sam now focuses on the original location (Sam's BBQ1) and the other Dave opened up Community Q in Decatur. Still the same great BBQ and sides all three are known for. This location is just west of Marietta Square in a strip mall. The restaurant space is not terribly big with a handful of booths along the walls and four-person tables in the center. Lines can get pretty long during lunch on weekdays. You order your food and pay at the registers up front and your number is called when your food is ready. You get fountain drinks, silverware, and condiments yourself. The menu is virtually the same as Sam's BBQ1. Like Sam's, Dave's is known for traditional Southern wood-fired pit-cooked BBQ. My favorite items and among the most popular ones to get are the pulled pork and beef brisket. The pork is hand-pulled and comes in large chunks. Many claim the brisket is among the best in Georgia and it is indeed thick, tender, and savory. I like to pile on the yummy "award winning" BBQ sauce (Georgia-style, sweet tomato-based). They also have BBQ chicken and ribs. You can get BBQ in sandwiches or on plates in regular and large sizes. The plates come with two sides. I always get the mac and cheese because it's incredibly cheesy and good. The noodles are wide and thick. I'm convinced Sam and Dave make some of the best mac and cheese in town. Baked beans, fried okra, cole slaw, and collard greens are also among my favorite sides to order. Sad to say I am disappointed in the sweet tea here. Not as sweet as many other local BBQ establishments, but this is just a personal preference. The food comes out reasonably fast. Just like Sam's, Dave has his own collection of BBQ competition trophies to show off inside of the restaurant. He's a big Alabama and SEC football fan as evidenced by all 12 SEC school pennants on the wall, the current SEC football schedule, and Dave's photograph with Nick Saban himself. Nice. You won't find a lick of anything ACC, though (boo). Outside the front doors, you'll find a bench from Sam and Dave's original BBQ1 location with Sam and Dave's names still etched in the wood. Overall, just great BBQ. #Yelp365 - 40/365

Yelp
Some of the best BBQ I have had and I've had a lot of cue. Moist and meaty and delicious pulled pork. Silly me, I got the "large" but the "regular" would have been plenty. The cole slaw and the Texas toast were okay, but... DO NOT SKIP THE MAC AND CHEESE. If there was a way to make that sentence in bold and blinking characters, I would. Best M&C I've had ever (that wasn't made by my wife). Good price for lunch. I'd love to be here again tomorrow and the next day and the day after that...
