Dave’s Hot Chicken London - Review - Soho - London - The Infatuation

"Dave’s Hot Chicken, an LA original with countless spots across the US, is a social experiment in poultry extreme sports. The incineration nation experience begins out on Shaftesbury Avenue in a queue of people who have never heard the siren call of a dial-up modem. The line is long, and slow, and confusing, because it’s actually pretty empty inside. But you’ll come to miss this queue—the fresh air, the opportunity to flee and continue your formerly innocent existence that meant never having to sign a legal waiver involving the words ‘heart palpitations’ in order to consume a chicken tender. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley video credit: Emily Hai photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Pause Unmute Inside, the aesthetic is ‘pubescent PewDiePie games room’ with the overwhelming scent to match. On the graffiti-esque walls, ‘HOT AF’ is Dave’s tag of choice and the sliding scale of heat that ranges from ‘mild’ to the apocalyptic ‘reaper’ is the reason that everyone’s here. But the heat is a firework that’s all bang and no flare. Even in the case of the mild and middling hot level, the spice of the supposedly Nashville-style chicken doesn’t build or taste of anything other than salt, so much salt, and perhaps, suffering. The crinkle chips arrive cold and although the fluff factor is decent, this is London. Even the pigeons can source a good chip if you give them five minutes and a complimentary twig offering. Nothing at Dave’s Hot Chicken is worth queuing for. Whoever said pleasure is pain never had to bathe their own burning tongue in a pot of mac and cheese. Food Rundown The Hot Slider The real riddle of this burger is how it can be so spicy but lack any of that complex, slightly sweet flavour we love in a cayenne rub. The chicken is pretty dry and the only redeeming feature is the pickles. PlayMute video credit: Emily Hai The Reaper Tenders A one-way ticket to Hades and the journey is paved with so much rub. Hard pass. PlayMute video credit: Emily Hai Mac N Cheese Sweet dairy salvation. It doesn’t taste of salt—or anything really—or threaten your sinuses, so we’ve got a somewhat Stockholm syndrome soft spot for this mac and cheese." - Heidi Lauth Beasley

First time being here and have to say I will never forget it. I got Dave’s #4 with one being Carolina reaper and could barely get half of it finished without calling it quits, it’s not for the weak and I have learned my lesson. Other than that the food and the atmosphere was really good. Tarak made the experience even better, he was so so helpful and friendly. Definitely a must visit

My visit to Dave's was a real treat. The food is absolutely fantastic. The chicken strips are perfectly juicy and their burger is a standout. You get a huge amount of delicious food for the price making the value unbeatable. The vibe is great and the team is really on top of things. I had a small mix-up when I went for a refill and they cleared my table. The staff member I talked to handled it with a genuine apology. They insisted on replacing my entire meal which was a class act and guarantees my return. Be warned their spice is serious business. The hot level and above bring real intense heat. My entire experience with their full menu was flawless. This spot is a total gem.

Worth the hype. I thought I'd try this place after a lot of family and friends were raving about it. I went Monday late afternoon to the Shaftesbury Avenue branch so it wasn't crazy busy. I ordered the sliders (Medium spicy) of which you get two, and the cheesy fries. The young girl who served me "Lil David" on her name badge was very friendly and outgoing. She's an asset to the company and should be recognised for her great, bubbly personality. Food was very nice and the medium spice was perfect for me. Cheese fries also very good. Definitely will go back.

I love the bright, funky interior, it's designed very well. My friend and I ordered burgers, tenders and fries. All cooked well, juicy chicken, nicely salty. My only bit of feedback is that the hot sauce / coating isn't hot. There is barely a head tickle. Other than that, a great experience

Got Lite Mild and No Spice as I’m not a fan of spicy food. £12 for fries, sauce, pickles, bread and 2 chicken tenders. Even the lite mild has a little bit of a kick. The chicken is huge so it seems about right for the price. To me it tastes exactly like Popeyes chicken. Sauce isn’t really anything special and personally there isn’t enough of it. Cheese fries are mid, Shake Shack and Wingstop do them better. The bread is random and doesn’t make sense. It would make sense if it was toasted brioche. To me, this place is definitely for fans of spicy chicken, otherwise it’s just another chicken shop and doesn’t stand out more than any other place. Atmosphere in these chicken places is never great. This is the only location in London so it gets extremely busy but the staff is efficient and gets the orders out consistently. I mainly only came here because it is down the street from where I work but I wouldn’t come into London specifically for it. Can’t beat KFC for fried chicken at the end of the day.

The food was cooked well and it was delicious. People who love spice food will be very happy. It is a self service restaurant that you order the food and drinks, you get to it and you go to a table if there is one available due to people who get in all the time and enjoying your food. All the meals have to do with chicken.

Very good food, we got the tender and burger combo and wow it was so tasty and portions sizes are huge. Very good value for money. If you like wingstop you will definitely enjoy Dave’s, shop was very busy but managed to find a seat pretty easily

Good food for a good price! I ordered Medium spice bites, and am glad I didn’t order more spicy, for sure a spot to check out for everyone that loves some well seasoned spicy chicken! Tarak was great working to keep the tables clean!
