Davey’s Ice Cream Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Davey’s is an East Village ice cream spot that excels at straightforward flavors like strawberry, pistachio, and cookies & cream, and you can get any of these things in a banana split, a milkshake, or a brownie sundae with hot fudge. The lack of gimmicky toppings and mix-ins gives this place an old-school feel, despite the fact that it isn’t especially old - although if you’d like to try something a little more fun, you can always get a slice of peanut pie blended into a milkshake." - Bryan Kim

Stopped by here on a play date with my grandkids. I was baby sitter for an afternoon. We are from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn area and on our 3 hour tour, we made a calculated stop at Davey's. It is a small place and has a nice vibe. They don't have a lot of flavors but the ones they have are robust.. The ice cream is small batch. The strawberry was amazing. The toasted pistachio was rich and creamy. The servers are very welcoming and friendly. It was a very good experience. This is a very "neighborhood" place which makes the experience that much better. The price was a tad on the high side but not so much so for the quality of ice cream and the enjoyment we all had.

Peppermint chip was very good; mint flavor really stood out and was not overly sweet. Great service and cute space !

Google
Fantastic ice cream shop in Greenpoint featuring several flavors, all without artificial coloring! The service was beyond amazing. The sweet girl behind the counter was kind enough to let us sample two flavors and proceeded to help us pick two perfectly blended flavors. We’ll definitely be back!!

This place is an incredible ice cream shop! 🍨 Davey's Ice Cream 🍦 in Brooklyn 🗽 serves a fantastic selection of delicious 🤤 ice cream flavors! Definitely get the Nutella 🌰 Ice Cream with Roasted Coconut 🥥 Flakes! Staff 👨‍🍳 is super friendly and the service is quick. ⏲️ They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. 🪑 I wish I came here sooner!

Google
Good cookie and batter mixed ice cream, a bit pricey. Located in from of elementary school wonder how many students have spending money for a cone here. Lots of books and photos decorated the store, a cozy casual spot.

Google
Easy simple ice cream as it should be! Good: - no line, just went up and ordered and got our come with fresh strawberry - Loved the strawberry flavor here, so good and refreshing, felt light and not too sweet - Good seating indoors and catch-up spot and good ambiance - Got to sample ice cream so service was good! Bad: - Pretty reasonable pricing Overall felt happy about the experience and just like had a solid fun hangout

Google
I rarely make the time to leave a review but Davey’s genuinely is not worth your time, money, or calories. We were pushed out of the shop 1 minute after closing after having just purchased a $12 ice cream sandwich, which wasn’t good at all. If you’re going to charge this much for your product, it needs to be good. And if it’s not good, you need to at least have great service and staff. If you don’t have either, then you really don’t have shit.

Google
Davey’s Ice Cream is a real neighborhood treasure! Their Speculoos Milkshake is incredible—perfectly balanced and full of flavor—and their vegan hot chocolate is rich, comforting, and just as satisfying as any dairy version. We had the opportunity to work with Davey’s while filming scenes for our TV show outside their shop, and the experience was fantastic. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and genuinely cared about making things easy for everyone involved. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, both in their delicious menu and how they treat their customers. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick treat or spending time in the area, Davey’s is always a great choice.

Yelp
Not sure why there's so many negative reviews. It's an ice cream shop in NYC lol it's not a baskin Robbin's. I thought the price to ice cream ratio was fine especially since there's an emphasis on how ice cream is produced in-house and isn't some mass market ice cream store. I got the strawberry ice cream and it was refreshing. I'm giving this place 4 stars because overall it was good, but not the best I've ever had. I've gone to creameries that wow'd me much more and I thought the cone was also okay meanwhile I've seen places make waffle cones in front of you. It's still good ice cream and I do regret not trying other flavors, but while it wasn't overly impressive, it was much better than the reviews have made it out to be.

Yelp
Davey's once served hot chocolate with marshmallows for a reasonable price. Now a small one is $7 and if you want a marshmallow topping it's now $3 extra! I guess the strategy of itemizing everything and charging for it has creeped in everywhere

Yelp
Great little neighborhood ice cream shop that feels like it belongs in a small town. Love the ambience here and the ice cream is pretty good. Service is friendly too. Prices are not cheap but for the Greenpoint area it's not terrible.

Yelp
Solid ice cream with several tables for outdoor seating make this a spot I wholeheartedly recommend -- a bit pricey though for the portion size/quality of ice cream which is where I'd say it loses out on a potential fifth star.

Yelp
Whether it's a hot summer day or a post-dinner dessert affair, there's always a reason to come to Davey's. There is loads of ice cream shops throughout the borough, but for here in Greenpoint, it is the consummate small local ice cream shop with the perfect casual vibes for a quality scoop or three. Ice cream comes in many forms here. While most folks tend to go with scoops over cones / cups, they also sell split scoops and kid sizes, along with pints for take home. They're known for their banana splits, brownie sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, and milkshakes. In addition to the classic flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, they've got a lot of seasonal stuff that changes from time to time. I think their peppermint chip is underrated and the roasted pistachio will always be popular. Fans of nutella will love their chocolate chunk and I think the salted caramel is always worth the consideration. Like all things Brooklyn, the prices are a bit up there. It's nearly $7 for a single scoop and $10 for a double with tax. The pints are practically $12, which is the same price for the ice cream sandwiches. Banana splits are the priciest of all. Thanks foodflation. Service overall has been a winner. The young folks behind the counter are good about making recommendations and will pack on the ice cream enough to make people feel like they're getting their money's worth. If push comes to show and you don't want a melted ice cream mess on your hands, then shoot for a milkshake.

Yelp
After having dinner, we decided to figure out what dessert to order. This was a few blocks from where we ate. They have indoor and outdoor seating areas. There is no bathroom for customers, so that's a downfall. The employees are really nice and know their ice cream. They gave us samples and suggested which ones to taste. I really liked the strawberry flavor ice cream and the cookies and creme cookie. I enjoyed the taste of both. I would like to try the sandwiches next time I go back.

Yelp
Listen . Its a simple ice cream shop . No frill, just good customer service and awesome ice cream . I didn't think I would crave ice cream during the colder months but I did last Saturday and he suggested a place that everyone in the neighborhood seems to frequent apparently. I thought it was going to be over rated but after my experience Id say they deserve every good review ever written .
google avatar

Yelp
Cute shop! The decor and atmosphere of the place reminds me of a small-town ice cream parlor. The staff were also very friendly and offered us many samples. They have about 10 flavors on the menu. My favorites are peppermint chip which has a light refreshing taste and speculoos chocolate chip which has a thicker consistency and reminds me of an oatmeal cookie. Both were slightly icy, but still good.

Apoorva G.

Yelp
The staff is so sweet and really fun vibe inside!! Lots of seating indoors and outdoors and I appreciate the small menu. I tried a couple flavors and they were all delicious but I settled for the vegan Rocky road which was creamy, smooth, and delicious which is a rarity for vegan ice cream!
google avatar

Yelp
I passed by for the 10th Year Anniversary as they were giving out free scoops! The line moved very quickly & I was able to get the pistachio, while my daughter tried the cookie dough & husband tried the vanilla! The place itself is very cute, smaller than expected inside but they do have outdoor seating so you can enjoy before the ice cream melts! The only downfall was that when I asked for a puppacino, I was told they only sell pup cups! Thankfully someone behind the counter heard me & was able to provide a cup of whipped cream! We all enjoyed our ice cream and can see myself coming back whenever I'm in Brooklyn!

Yelp
Cutest ice cream shop gave me small town movie energy. Tried my 1st banana split here, pricey for sure, but yum!

Yelp
I got Davey's Ice Cream to-go on a hot summer day. They offer free samples, which is always a plus when it comes to ice cream. I sampled the speculoos chocolate chip and the vegan blueberry crumble. I would recommend the speculoos chocolate chip ice cream to everyone--it had biscoff cookies, a creamy vanilla base, and lots of chocolate. The vegan blueberry crumble ice cream tasted like vegan ice cream: the base was more like a blueberry sorbet (even though the texture was still creamy) with clusters of crumble. This, however, was exactly what I wanted that day, and I was pleased with my order!
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped by in the evening for some ice cream. They allowed us to sample the flavors. I went with the roasted pistachio flavor, a small scoop. It was delicious but wow, it was really small!!! A single scoop is $6.60 pre-tax and you finish it pretty quickly. I would recommend Davey's for the quality of the ice cream and that everything is homemade, but it is definitely a treat given the price.

Yelp
I get the Roasted Pistachio regularly at the Moynihan Hall station and it's delicious. It's a treat once a month that makes me happy on my way home from work. The ice cream has a great texture and flavor. The staff is always so welcoming The few reviewers complaining about how the ice cream is too expensive, should go and try and make delicious artisanal ice cream, open up a shop, and pay expensive NYC rent while staying in business. I like supporting the mom and pop shops. The love and care put into the ice cream is well worth it. Don't be a cheapskate, support the local small business. Keep the character of NYC alive.

Yelp
There was one staff member she was short with a red cap who was incredibly RUDE and it ruined my whole happy ice cream mood. I got a brownie Sunday and the picture did not show whipped cream. So I didn't know there would be a massive tower chunk of whipped cream on top when she handed me my ice cream. I told her I didn't know there would be whipped cream on it and if she can take some off and re put the extra toppings I paid for... because for any additional toppings you need to pay extra. She then snaps at me saying "you should've clarified. Scrape it off your self" and walks away!!! My friend got the same order and his server ASKED him if he wanted whipped cream or not! She did not do the same for me. I just thought that was incredibly rude. It ruined my experience. Thankfully the person at the register just gave me toppings on the side but I had to go and scrape it off myself. I then see her talking about me to the other employees but all the customers around thought she was being out of line as well. I am not one to get upset at servers. I always try to be extra nice but that was just so mean. I hope she sees this and adjusts how she talks to customers.

Yelp
It was a chilly day but I still love to have ice cream on my break. I got a scoop of strong coffee on a cone so nice and yummy. Mostly I have my dog with me when I come to GreenPoint so I don't fet a chance to try their ice cream until now. There are some seats inside and outside if you want to sit there.

Denise G.

Yelp
In no world is it acceptable for one (1) ice cream float to be $11.43. Literally killed the vibe of buying myself a little treat for it to be that price. And it was fine. Nothing to write home about. Ughh
google avatar

Theresa L.

Yelp
$10.75 before taxes for a brownie sundae, crazy times. Got more whip cream than ice cream.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Great ice cream, great service and cool little shop. Chocolate shake is real chocolate and not vanilla ice cream with syrup, which is rare to find these days! Only thing is milkshakes are a bit overpriced at $10.80 for a one size cup and you cannot mix flavors in a shake.
google avatar

Katey G.

Yelp
It's wild that this is the only ice cream shop in the neighborhood! The space itself was nice and spacious with outdoor seating. They have lots of options beyond ice cream, like cookie sandwiches and a small selection of baked goods. The ice cream itself is good. But I wouldn't say it's my favorite of NYCs small batch creameries. All in all a solid neighborhood ice cream shop!
google avatar

Wellington M.

Yelp
Came to Davey's on a warm day after a lot of walking and a light dinner. Was happy to see a good amount of people outside enjoying ice cream but also not much of a line! Ended up getting a brownie sundae for myself and a kid cone for my partner. Topped my brownie with "vanilla vanilla" ice cream, hot fudge, chocolate sprinkles and although I didn't ask for it they added whipped cream. I'll be upfront and say I did enjoy the dessert as a whole, it's just what I do, but I was disappointed by the proportions of brownie to ice cream to whipped cream. I feel like my partners kiddie scoop had way more ice cream than my brownie Sunday. The brownie was actually delicious and the fudge but it was weird at an ice cream shop. I'll check them out again at some point. The vanilla was good. Pleasant service.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
I wanted to be wowed by it, but my experience was pretty average overall. I got a scoop of strong coffee in a waffle cone. The worker said the waffle cone was from a fresh-off-the-iron batch, but it wasn't as warm and crisp as I imagined it should be. The strong coffee flavor was also good, but nothing to write home about. It tasted pretty much like any other coffee ice cream I've had. For a grand total of $9, it just wasn't worth it in my opinion. They have a cute little area to sit at outside, and a bright multi-colored wall to take cool pics on. The decor made it seem like a very hipster spot, if you're into that!
google avatar

Jesse K.

Yelp
Really cute ice cream spot a bit off the main streets. Staff was quick and offered multiple samples to taste. The ice cream was super good and creamy but definitely over priced. One single scoop is the price of most pints you can get. I understand they make this in house but I just can't justify the expense so not sure I'd go back

Kirstin F.

Yelp
So many fun flavors! I got the speculoos chocolate chip in a chocolate dipped cone and it was the perfect post dinner dessert. No complaints -- would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

Elleisha R.

Yelp
Coffee ice cream 10/10 strawberry milkshake thiccc 10/10. First time here and will definitely be back the service was amazing and fast!

Yelp
I've read great things about Davey's, so I figured I'd come try it myself since I do love ice cream. I first tried a couple flavors but honestly I wasn't a fan of any of the ones I tried and I felt bad trying any more so I decided to go with one I thought would be a safe choice and get peppermint. For $7 the scoop is pretty small I must say, but I was hoping to at least be blown away. Sadly the quality of the ice cream just wasn't able to meet that expectation. It was more icey than creamy in my opinion. I think I'd much rather go to a Van Leeuwen's or maybe even just get a pint of Ben & Jerry's which I think I prefer over this.

Jo M.

Yelp
Tried the Vegan rocky road - was amazing and their pup cups are great for the dogs on a hot day
google avatar

Chrissy R.

Yelp
Stumbled on this place since Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory was closed. Homemade, and creamy with creative flavors - the boy and I got salted caramel and Nutella chocolate chip doubles, and enjoyed them in McCarren Park 2 blocks away. Yes, it's more expensive than other places but comparable to other shops that serve homemade goodness - worth every penny.
google avatar

Yelp
My daughter and I walked along the Greenpoint area in Brooklyn. She said she wanted ice cream and down the block we saw a Davey's ice cream van. We googled the address and stopped into this nice spot. The attendant was very friendly. The ice cream was delicious and we were able to sit and relax our feet for a while.

Eve J.

Yelp
ice cream mid af. got cookies and cream and it barely had flavor. this is coming from an icecream LOVER

Yelp
the rice krispie treat is a hidden treasure. i walk 2 miles just to have one to snack on later.

Yelp
Ice Cream is decent. The Service given by the guy that is always there is horrible. He shouldn't be there if he doesn't want to be there. Nice store, inviting. Price point is outrageous. One scoop for $9 and change. This company will not be getting any business from me any longer.
google avatar

Ira K.

Yelp
This was a way superior ice cream. I had the. Pistachio lots of ground pistachios and my friend had Nutella chocochip excellent
google avatar

Yelp
Great small batch homemade ice cream parlor! Davey's uses fresh ingredients and nothing artificial (except for the Cookies and Cream, I'm told). I've sampled a couple of flavors and even though I stuck with the French Vanilla, it's very good. They don't have as many options as other parlor shops but what they have is darn good. Flavors like Strong Coffee and Fresh Strawberry are really enticing. Davey's hot fudge is also really good. It's not overly sweet and has a good chocolate bittersweet flavor. The price for a scoop is definitely a little higher but the quality is definitely higher as well. Definitely up for a revisit and supporting a local business.

Meg C.

Yelp
Good for people who: want a great ice cream experience Bad for people who: are haters Everyone here was so nice and the ice cream was so good! The staff were so patient with us even though we kept asking for different samples because we couldn't decide what we wanted. I ended up getting a blue ice cream that tasted like fruit loops (I forget what it's called!) and it was sooooo good. I finished it so quick. They had a couple tables for people to sit outside so my friends and I sat outside and devoured our ice creams.

Yelp
PURCHASED: 1 vanilla strawberry scoop on basic sugar cone (see photo) TOTAL: ~$7.00 PROS: + strawberry vanilla: If strawberry vanilla, you are in Greenpoint, and do not have time to do any more research, I would go here. Though, please read below. CONS: - expensive: Please see the photo of what I got. I had one simple scoop to fill the top of a sugar cone. That COST $7.00... I don't think this ice cream was worth this much. I will not be returning. IMPRESSION: Located across the street from the Greenpoint post office, the Greenpoint precinct as well as an elementary school, this location is huge for families. Child-colored drawings litter the walls. It's a very family-oriented home made ice cream. The strawberry vanilla was delicious. Though, it was unfortunately a bit too pricey for 1 scoop on a basic cone. The only thing that doesn't give this a 1 out of 5-star rating is the strawberry vanilla was not bad. The price made this spot a 4 out of 5 to a 2 out of 5-star rating--sorry

Yelp
The new big Davey's is finally open, less than a mile from the Bedford Ave shop. This is the fourth location now, with the same great stuff but in a much larger space to enjoy it. This is also nice when you want a quick scoop away from the crowds of the congested area of Bedford. Speculoos Chip always. And the new Pretzel is great too.

Inal C.

Yelp
We got one scoop of ice cream and got charge $15!!!! I And even for two scoops on one cone, it should've been $12. I was robbed by this ice cream shop!!! Stay away from these scammers!!
google avatar

Joe H.

Yelp
Absolutely abhorrent that a tiny cup with the most meager scoop of ice cream was $7. I wish I took a picture of how pathetic it was that the scoop height barely breached the rim of the cup.
google avatar

Alessandra S.

Yelp
I ordered an ice cream cake for a birthday, and it was really delicious. You get to choose two flavors for the cake, one for the top and one for the bottom. Between the two layers there is just a thin layer of cake and the top had a thin layer of icing. The cake is 90% ice cream (which is what I was looking for) and is really delicious in comparison to most store bought ice cream cakes. Overall, I am super pleased with my purchase and will return for future ice cream cake purchases. Plus, their customer service is exceptional. I sent inquiring emails and they were followed up quickly with the info I needed. They even went so far to let me pick up the cake earlier than their regular pick up time, which I really appreciated.

Yelp
Cute retro ice cream place. The interior impressed us with the retro feeling, look like you travel back to the 80. Good place for Instagram photo. The ice cream is oh-so-yummy. Different flavor is bursting with original taste like strawberry ice cream is made straight from strawberry field, you get the idea. I tempted to have the coffee but the young boy warned me it may cause sleepless since its 5pm. Well, he did make sense. I choose mint chip instead. Wow, its minty like the fresh mint from the farm and chip crispy. Cheap price better than Van Leeuwen a couple blocks away. 5.25/single scoop
google avatar

Debbie A.

Yelp
I went there yesterday, first time. I was very excited to try however the associate behind the counter was not friendly at all. I ordered two ice creams. He took the first order all the way to the register and asked me if I wanted anything else. What in the world kind of service is this. Paid $12 for two small scoops. Way to expensive. Will definitely not be going back there. Also the ice cream was not that good. Wished I had a better experience.

Ferryn R.

Yelp
A milkshake, bottle of water, and a small ice pop: $21. I don't even understand how that's possible. I was underwhelmed by the milkshake, but the workers were nice and helpful. Still can't get past the absurd price though--part of the reason we came was because of the one dollar sign
google avatar

Yelp
We used to go to Davey's ice cream down in the east village and have referred multiple friends to that store. The one in the east village was closed so we went to the one in Brooklyn. We were a little bit surprised by the quality of the ice cream we had today. We had strong coffee and vanilla in a cup. The temperature is so off and both flavors don't have consistent texture. We are so disappointed with the quality of the ice cream. We would give another shot if the store in the village (the 9th street) is open. Hopefully they will bring back the good quality of ice cream that we used to have.

Yelp
Omg $6 for one scoop on child size sugar cone..If these are the new so called Covid prices. I will have continue to stay home. The only thing Im not complaining is that it was good but I have also had better for much less. Guess this will be a one time deal for me.
google avatar

Ana D.

Yelp
I think I personally over did it. Got too much ice cream. And too much hot fudge. And too much chocolate sprinkles. Now that I'm writing it I'm thinking "there's no such thing!" But I ended up throwing most of it out. Didn't like the cookie at the bottom. It's not soft and chewy. It's hard.
google avatar

Sara R.

Yelp
Popped in here during an afternoon exploring Greenpoint. SUPER CUTE!!! incredible ice cream flavors, everything was delicious. I landed with the Nutella, but tried a bunch and didn't regret that!
