The Best Restaurants and Bars Near Penn Station | Eater NY

"This burgeoning East Village ice cream chain has a counter on the side of the main terminal of the Moynihan Train Hall. It scoops ice cream like the supermarket types you may have enjoyed as a child: not too creamy or dense, but with exotic flavors never dreamed of. For this map, Eater NY checked out the flavor called strong coffee, which the clerk assured us had a full pull of espresso in each scoop, by way of warning. Bring it on!" - Eater Staff

17 Top Desserts in the East Village | Eater NY

"This cute ice cream shop, opened by owner David Yoo in 2013, has a creamy, mostly classic roster that includes roasted pistachio, strong coffee, and speculoos chocolate, plus seasonal rotating flavors. Sundaes, ice cream sandwiches made to order, and milkshakes, including a pie milkshake with peanut butter pie or a seasonal pie, are on the menu, too. There’s also a Williamsburg location, which opened in 2015." - Alexandra Ilyashov

Google
Just basic ice cream. This waffle cone with one scoop was $10. In my opinion that’s too much for ice cream that tastes like it’s from the grocery store (when you could get a whole tub for $10).

Google
Their ice cream flavors are majority classic ones. This spot is small with limited seats. Nutella was good, creamy, not too sweet (which the reason why I like it.) However, I barely tasted hazelnut.

Google
Awesome and lovely. Kara is awesome! Sorry I finished it lol but try the Speculoos choc chip!

Google
Good ice cream with decent amount of the common most popular flavor options (10, 2 vegan). Portions per scoop is quite large but so is the price ($7 for 1 scoop and $10 for 2 scoops). They allow sampling and also have milkshakes. We tried the roasted pistachio, cookies & cream, and strawberry. All of them were quite good with the strawberry standing out the most. The strawberry had nice soft little bits of strawberry which made it have real taste. It was also the pale pink expected from fruit color. They have some indoor seating.

Google
Davey's has a very classic ice cream flavor menu, I chose one that was interesting to me! 4/5 Speculoos Choco Chip -- loved the texture of the cookies and the chocolate chips throughout the not too sweet vanilla base. The ice cream base could a bit richer and creamier imo! This was a great pick me up on a hot summer day!

Google
I heard about a free ice cream deal on Instagram and, since it was on my way home, I figured I’d check them out. I got the deal (downloaded the Blackbird app) and my goodness… the ice cream was so creamy and delicious! It tasted as if it was freshly made, which was a wonderful treat for cooling off after a day’s work. I will, for sure, be back on my way home. What a wonderful little deal- you’ve gained a new customer!

Google
Amazing and trendy ukranian food, there is always a line so get ready to wait a little, amazing service, thank you Hanna! Blessings xoxo

Google
The ice cream is amazing, the customer service is also 100%. The server with the locs is always so kind and has a smile on his face early. My ONLY complaint is that the cookie dough ice cream is not offered at the East Village location and I have to go all the way to 34th to get it. I already travel 40 mins to get to the EV location would love to see my fav at my home store

Yelp
Davey's Ice Cream is so good in this heat. I had Vanilla and it was delicious. I don't get the cone. You can add whatever toppings you want. They have Vegan Ice Cream made from Oat Milk and Almond Milk. There's something for everyone. The employees from Davey's were very nice. Everything was handled timely. They cater so it's a great treat for a child's birthday party or any party. I'm definitely recommending. It's a Summer of ICE CREAM!

Yelp
Popped in for the blackbird promotion. You can get a free ice cream scoop if you have the blackbird app. The lady serving me was very friendly and nice. I got the strong coffee and she let me know that it's the equivalent of an espresso? (If I heard her correctly) and asked me if I was okay with it. She gave me a heaping scoop! Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the coffee flavor. Usually, I really enjoy coffee flavor ice cream but this time I was kind of disappointed. Not a fan at all. I'll definitely pop by in another time to try out another flavor. I'm thinking maybe something more fruity or a peppermint chip.

Yelp
We stumbled into Davey's on a rainy Saturday night after a friend deemed soft serve unacceptable, so we went searching for a spot that would offer classic scoops. Davey's came to the rescue! The best thing about this spot is the staff. Their energy was infectious, they were kind and generous and patient in explaining different flavors and overall made the desserts we shared even sweeter.

Yelp
This is a classic ice cream shop with a modern twist with new quirky flavors. I've sampled 4 flavors, and they have all been top-notch. As far as unique flavors, the speckoolos and nutella flavors are amazing, super flavorful, and all creamy and rich. The cookies n cream was so good because of the large amount of oreos in the ice cream. The coffee flavor was really good, being that you could really taste a strong coffee flavor, but it was not overly sweet. The workers were so hospitable and helpful with so many suggestions and allowed you to sample as flavors if you were curious. They have new flavors seasonally, so you always have a reason to pop in and try something new.

Yelp
Speculoo ice cream is my go to here. It has biscoff mixed into the chocolate chip ice cream. So good and the staffs here are awesome. Love this place. There's also seatings inside. No bathroom.

Yelp
Super friendly workers and I wish it wasn't seasonal but the vegan vanilla berry crumble is my favorite so far here!

Yelp
RATING: 6.8/10 Davey's Ice Cream is an institution and a source of late-night ice cream for people staying up late drinking and having a good time everywhere. Finally got a chance to try it, and glad to have taken part. The service was great, the guys in there were so nice and let me try all the flavors even though I didn't want initially ask for it, but they really wanted to share their joy for the ice cream with me it seemed. COFFEE ICE CREAM Their coffee ice cream is notable, as it is actually really quite strong, and will get you awake and has a strong coffee flavor. I appreciated this, and they had a few other standard flavors. The other flavors were nothing too out of the ordinary and they have around 10 or less flavors. I think in the competitive ice cream scene of NYC it's hard to stand out, and so I would say that this place is good, but nothing that beckons you from too far away if you're not near it. But if I was in the area and the mood for ice cream struck? This would definitely be a great option. CATEGORY: GOOD (terrible / bad / ok / GOOD / great / excellent)

Yelp
such a cute ice cream shop hidden in the east village! they don't have a lot of flavors to choose from, but the ones they do have seem to be fairly unique. I tried the speculoos chocolate chip and was surprised by how much was mixed into it! you could really taste the biscoff, but the rest of the ice cream seemed bland. I'm not entirely sure how much things cost as there's no price listed on their boards, and I got this scoop for free from an event, so I can't speak on that. however, their portions are really big for a singular scoop! workers are very lively and seem to want to talk to you. shop itself is tiny and not much seating inside, but my friend and I sat on the cute bench outside! I think I would def come back for the strong coffee flavor.

Yelp
Super friendly staff, fun flavors, and cute interior. I was craving a classic brownie sundae and this place hit the spot. Their ice cream sandwich was also delicious and fresh made. Great place to stop for a sweet treat.

Yelp
I tried their hot chocolate for the first time and it was really good. The hot chocolate is so thick and creamy and perfect for winter! You can also add marshmallows if you like!

Yelp
Whenever I talk about ice cream with my friends, I tell them that two businesses have kind of ruined other ice cream for me. One is Vanilla Bean Creamery in Cranford, NJ. The other is Davey's Ice Cream. I was first introduced to Davey's a few years ago when they were still on 1st Avenue, and recently I visited their new location to see if the quality of the ice cream was still what I remembered. I was very relieved to see that this place is every bit as good as I remembered! First, kudos to the staff for always being cheerful, helpful and efficient. Want a free sample? They are pleased to help. Need some information about one of the flavors? They've got your answer. I've always appreciated the customer service at this shop. As for the ice cream, it is absolutely delicious. My two favorite flavors are their Roasted Pistachio and Strong Coffee (with their Strawberry in third place). Each flavor packs a flavor punch. There's no subtlety here. The roasted pistachio has a wonderful smokiness and nutiness that are wonderfully balanced. The Strong Coffee is as advertised, a concentrated coffee flavor balanced out by a smooth dairy creaminess. Even flavors that aren't really in my "favorites" list (like Salted Caramel) are very well done if you are into those flavor profiles. This new location is a bit smaller than the previous one, but there are still seats inside to enjoy your sweet treat but I did not see any rest room for customer use. I tell all my friends to visit Davey's if they're in the area, so I'm telling you, dear reader, to do the same.

Yelp
Davey's Ice Cream has some pretty solid homemade ice cream. I appreciate how they have a brownie sundae on the menu-surprisingly, I can't find too many places in the City that have them! Their Cookies and Cream ice cream is some of the best I've had-mostly because they do not skimp on the Oreos and there's always huge chunks throughout my scoop. Definitely my go-to flavor: I wish they had a bigger variety of flavors, but maybe the smaller selection helps me narrow my decisions. The brownie sundae is good-but sometimes how good depends on the day (as I've had a visit or two where I'm not super impressed). However, I do appreciate how they make the brownies themselves rather than going the pre-packaged route. The staff is also always friendly and they are always happy to provide samples.

Yelp
So good! Came here on Friday night and ordered a speculoos chocolate chip icecream in a cone. It was delicious! There were plenty of speculoos chunks inside the icecream which made it oh so cookie buttery. The icecream base wasn't the thick, custardy type, but the texture was still pleasant. To be honest, the chocolate chips probably could have been dropped, but was still pretty good.

Yelp
More like 3.5 stars. Cute little ice cream place. Friendly staff They had less flavors then I was expecting though. I normally don't go for vegan ice cream, but their new vegan flavors was intriguing! Tried their strawberry shortcake flavor and it was a little bit bland. The carrot cake flavor was interesting - has carrot and "cream cheese" bits in it. With the added spices, it really tasted like carrot cake on a spoon! The shredded carrot bits adds texture to the ice cream (and make me feel good about eating it- helps me meet my daily vegetable intake goals lol) Overall it's a bit too sweet for my liking though.

Yelp
The 2 stars is for the staff. One of the employees was so pleasant and wonderful. The 2 thumbs down? The shakes. Skip em. Over $10/shake and they taste like a glass of milk. The prices are extremely high for the quality.

Yelp
I'm a soft serve girl but the strawberry and speculous flavors slapppp. The strawberry is super fresh and the speculous has lots of good cookie bites in there :) only complaint is that it's a bit pricey for being ice creammmm

Yelp
if chicken soup is for the soup then milkshakes are for the spirit animal. recently, put in a pickup order via a food app for a Peppermint Milkshake at Davey's Ice Cream. the milkshake is quality over quantity / gimmicks. the milk is rich and smooth and the ice cream was fresh-tasting, flavorful, and not overly sweet. the Peppermint Shake had that minty natural freshness and chips of dark chocolate of the ice cream all blended up with milk into a smooth sip-able through a straw dessert. Davey's did fumble my order in one way* milkshakes run about $10+ on food apps, cost a little less if you order in-store. *the only MINUS in my milkshake (and maybe it was bc I ordered via a food delivery app) was that they made the Peppermint Milkshake without a huge dollop of whipped cream--FAIL. kept waiting for the Davey's staffer to catch the error but sadly they didn't and i didn't want them to have to re-make it nor have a conversation about it bc at the end of the day it's just a milkshake. the strange part was the person before me got a milkshake topped with whipped cream. case of temporary amnesia maybe lol! i thought maybe they charge extra for whipped cream? but that would be superweird. also checked the app later to see if you have to pay extra for whipped cream but there's no listed extra charge for it and all the Davey's milkshake pics are with whipped cream. anyway if you look at my milkshake pics versus all other Davey milkshake pics--the only difference is whipped cream. oh the humanity lol end of day, it's a good milkshake the store is a small space but there is seating in the back as well as a bench out front. the store is warm, colorful, and well-maintained. **post-review edit--Davey's also didn't offer me a punchcard either on my pickup order even though they gave one to the person before me who also ordered a milkshake. Man, customer service is really dead LOL bastards

Homemade delicious ice cream. I love everything about this place. Thoughtful design from top to bottom. Def try the ice cream sandwich if you haven't. If you don't like this ice cream, chances are you're the problem just kidding haha but no it's def you. This place rocks.

Yelp
Thanks for returning back to the east village. Flavors aren't oddballs like what most market about, but what Davey does with simple flavor is to perfection- chocolate that taste like chocolate, vanilla with no artificial flavor and of course, birthday cake...that just reminds you of your special day. Kept the same fun, whimsical store font. Nothing fancy. Nothing creamy, just god old, thoughtfully churned ice cream.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream, friendly staff, and great vegan options!! A must visit for ice cream lovers!!

Yelp
Their rice crispy treats are out of this world and their brownies sundaes and milkshakes are my favorite. Their ice cream is rich and creamy and quality is always consistent! Love Davey's!

Yelp
Worst banana spit ever! All 3 flavors of ice cream tasted the same. The whipped cream was totally collapsed and the hot fudge was non-existent. Nothing worse than deciding to splurge on some calories and it totally not being worth it. Thanks for nothing Davey's!

Yelp
Curated top shelf ice cream. I've been a fan of Davey's for years. They have a relatively small number of flavors but don't be fooled. Each flavor is excellent and carefully prepared. And they have all the main flavors to keep any ice cream fan satisfied. Quality over quantity. For example, there are only a couple of places that I can just enjoy the vanilla and Davey's is one of them. But sit down boys and girls and let me tell you about my recent trip. I indulged in their dark chocolate which is really rich and satisfying. And also their peppermint chip, which was new for me. So this is essential Mint Chocolate Chip and I can say without hesitation that this is the BEST mint chocolate chip in the city, maybe everywhere? I like to think of myself as a mint chocolate connoisseur, having started eating this flavor as a young lad like 40 years ago. And the best of the best used to be a place in NJ called Grunnings. Google it to learn more. Their mint chip used shaved flakes of chocolate rather than chips or chunks. The latter tend to get really hard and while still delicious, Grunnings really nailed it with the shaved chocolate because it kind of melted in your mouth. Well guess what? My boy Davey ( I met him once years ago when they first opened on 1st ave) has used this fabulous method of shaved chocolate. Plus real peppermint! Many other places commit the sin of using spearmint and it makes me want to cry. So indulge my friends. I do not know how long this peppermint chip flavor will be there so run over and grab some and you'll appreciate it from the first bite. Mint chocolate chip artwork if you ask me. Pair it with the dark chocolate for a perfect combo. Thank you Davey's for bringing back the flavor and texture (minus the artificial green color) of real mint chocolate chip. It's quite refreshing. And if you're going to indulge in ice cream, Davey's is the place to go!

Yelp
Incredible experience. First thing that happened when I walked through the boutique retro entrance, was the owner started yelling at me. "NO NFTs ALLOWED. IF I SEE A JPEG, YOU'RE OUT" I have no idea whan an NFT is, and why it was such a problem. The person before me was apparently really distraught (he was wearing a BAYC hoodie). The Owner, dressed in a dapper black suit with a DAVECORP label, came over and slapped the phone out of the man's hand and threw him out, followed by his phone tossed in the gutter. I've never seen anything like it. "DO YOU HAVE AN NFT BRO?" The owner asked me. "No, I don't even know what an NFT is, but I'd love some ice cream" - I said, careful not disclose my huge portfolio of underwater NFT bags. He patted me on the back, went behind the counter in his dapper suit, and made by hand the best damn ice cream sandwhich I've ever eaten. Unbelievable. 11/10.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and staff ! The ice cream was so delicious creamy & fresh. As soon as you walk in you feel welcomed
