"David’s in Gramercy is around the corner from Ess-a-Bagels—but it’s better than just a back-up plan if the Ess-a line is too long. Their BEC here alone is worth dragging yourself out of bed on a Sunday, and their bagels have the texture of memory foam, if memory foam tasted like malted yeasty goodness. We appreciate their whole wheat options for not being too sweet, and the musky pumpernickel stays soft and springy even after you toast it. "When we’re in desperate need of a BEC, it can be hard for us to drag ourselves the extra few feet (or train stop) to get a BEC at a bagel shop rather than our bodega. But if you live by David’s Bagels in Gramercy, a breakfast sandwich on one of their fluffy Tempur-Pedic bagels is worth the extra effort. The pumpernickel has a deep, musky flavor and stays soft and springy even after you toast it, and they have whole wheat options that we appreciate for not being too sweet. This places doesn't look like much and I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was. I got a garlic bagel which -was recommended when I asked- with 2 egg whites, cheese, and avocado. They did not skimp on the avocado. I also picked up a blueberry muffin for my boyfriend to have later, it looks really good. The service was excellent, the 2 women I encountered working the counter were very pleasant and kind. I’d definitely come back remembering the good service. And not bad prices at all! I payed $7 and change for 2 quality items.

ABSOLUTELY GO. The bagels are the freshest I’ve had in New York, and the bacon egg and cheese will be the best you’ve had — always add salt, pepper and hot sauce if you like spice. Their muffins are delicious as well. This is my goto bagel spot for a BEC that’s only $7.

Old school NYC bagel shop where they make the bagels and you can customize your sandwich with various cheeses and cream cheese etc reasonable prices for Manhattan. There are a few tables but it looks like most people take their food to go. There are at least 3 shops in the same block where you can get a bagel but I keep coming back to David's, always fresh. Not as trendy as Tompkins but solid spot for an egg and cheese, bacon egg and cheese, etc.

Seriously delicious bagels. So soft and fluffy and the perfect amount of cream cheese. The garlic chive cream cheese is intensely garlicky but it’s good. Turkey and cheese sandwich on an onion bagel is also awesome, with honey mustard is the best. My favorite bagels in the city

The bagel and cream cheese at David’s was the best I tasted after a tour of over a dozen bagel shops across the city. Truly a hidden gem, David’s belongs a rightful spot on the bagel map. The texture is perfect, from the flaky snappy crust to the pillowy interior that condenses down to a satisfyingly dense chew. A few other bagel spots nail the texture (Apollo, Popup), but David’s takes the edge with taste—a slightly malty sweetness comes through after a savory salty first bite.

David’s bagels is a real NYC bagel spot run by lovely people. Fresh delicious bagels. All the usual options. Least expensive quality option. No hype, no shine, not fancy at all. If you’re a tourist, stay away- don’t ruin our spot.
