"Chef Marc Grika had closed his Southern fried chicken spot Flannel last December, but he held onto the East Passyunk Crossing space, turning it into this new Italian Asian restaurant in February. Expect fusion-y dishes like black cod dumplings with a creamy taleggio sauce; bao stuffed with sweetbreads; and duck meatballs paired with udon." - Nadia Chaudhury
New Philly Restaurant Openings: February 2025 | Eater Philly
"After Southern fried chicken spot Flannel closed in December, owner-chef Marc Grika flipped the six-year-old dining room into a new venture that opened on February 13. The menu is an Italian-Asian hybrid described as unlike any other, listing items such as orange chicken parm, sweetbread bao, and ramen with Italian wedding soup inflections." - Emma Orlow
I’ve always loved The Flannel, so I wss happy to see the owner decided to do something different. I decided to stop by for happy hour—and it did not disappoint! The whole experience was amazing. Every drink was top-notch—great quality, perfectly balanced, and clearly made with care.
The food was just as impressive: delicious, well-portioned, and reasonably priced. It’s clear they put thought into every detail, from the flavors to the presentation.
Now I’m even more excited to come back for the full dinner experience. If you’re looking for a spot with great vibes, quality cocktails, and seriously good food, this place is a must-visit!

Come very hungry or be prepared to enjoy a full take-home container of leftovers from your entrees. Everything we tried was delicious and perfectly seasoned in the amount of spicyness for my taste. We shared a bao appetizer, and had the chicken parm with noodles and brisket for our entrees. The service was friendly and attentive. The owner even stopped by our table for feedback as we shared a tiramisu dessert. They had a broad selection of drink options. The walls are covered with colorful Asian-inspired graphics and there was loud alt music playing to reinforce the party atmosphere. Recommend making a reservation if you're coming for dinner on the weekend.

If you’re looking for a fun night out with a unique dining experience in south Philly, I highly recommend visiting Davinci and Yu on Passyunk Avenue.
We had the Black Cod Dumplings—sooooo tasty—Italian Asian Wedding Ramen with brisket and dumplings and the Bresaola, Proscutto and Pepperoni Pizza and both were excellent. A super yummy yuzu cocktail on the side and we were happy campers.
Service was attentive and courteous and we were sat at a 2 seater by the open windows on a beautiful night and it was so lovely!
Try it out soon!

was dying to try this place but disappointed because it just fell a little short.
drinks — we all loved the cocktails we got, definitely a standout
apps — kung pao bao and aransushi were delicious but didn’t scream fusion. the aransushi was just crispy rice.
dishes — bbq brisket was tasty but came out cold, not even warm 🫣; orange chicken parm was basically a middle of the road chicken parm with orange zest. the pasta was just mid spaghetti; miso cacio y pepe was good but very rich and could have had more miso flavor. i’m glad we tried 3 separate dishes because i know i couldn’t have eaten a whole (or half) a portion of any one of these.
something must have been going on at the time that they were trying to compensate for because staff became flustered and came around with free desserts. tiramisu was great but you can leave the tofu flan lol.
overall had a great time trying different things, definitely a place where you can get a bunch of entrees to just split and talk about what you like/don’t like. service was great and our server was knowledgeable, personable, and answered all questions. but you can tell they’re still in a workshopping phase with the food and otherwise.

Sounded oddly interesting so decided to give it a shot. Still think it could work, but felt like the dishes weren't really there yet, with the fusion not consistently effective and overall an okay dinner but nothing that felt like a must-eat standout.
Best bite was the miso cacio y pepe--but the miso was subtle and could've been played up more. The orange chicken in the orange chicken parm was juicy and tasty but the spaghetti felt like a separate dish, not complementary. I feel like could've paired the pasta with like an orange basil sauce to play up the concept but with more complementary flavors. The black cod steamed dumplings were a tasty starter. The bao buns were okay but nothing to write home about. We had the ube espresso martini and the lemon drop inspired one and both seemed like the balance was off--the martini was a little flat and the other one lacked expected sweetness.
The meal was served quickly but service was uneven. Multiple servers were serving our table but didn't appear to be talking to each other so we'd have someone asking for our order after we put it in. No big deal, but then oddly inattentive in terms of refills or when it came time for the check.
Might give it another try once it's been around longer, but not in a hurry to go back with all the great restaurants around.
No problen finding street parking on a weekday night.

The Food did not disappoint! We tried a few dishes like the Black Cod Dumplings, Cacio E Pepe E Miso, Korean BBQ brisket, Ball Bao, and the Lamb Neck. Huge thanks to the kitchen staff—clearly some serious talent back there turning out amazing dishes. And shoutout to our server Louis, who was basically a menu wizard and helped us make all the right picks. First time here, but definitely not the last!

I was so excited to try Marc’s new restaurant and enjoyed everything I tried! The pictures (in order) included are of the Adobo Stinco, Cacio e Pepe e Miso, Italian Style Brisket, Smashed Double Wagyu Burger, Teriyaki Cauliflower, Italian-Asian Wedding Ramen, Kung Pao Bao, Black Cod Dumplings, Caprese Fresh Roll, and Tako (Octopus) Bao. I definitely recommend trying the Kung Pao Bao if you are in need of a recommendation!!!

Yelp
We went to DaVinci and Yu on a Saturday night and completely fell in love. We booked one of the last reservations of the night but were able to be seated about 20 mins before our reservation which was a great first impression.
We'd been to Flannel before and were completely blown away by how different and ambient it looked inside the dining room. You almost don't even realize there used to be a campfire theme in there!
We did the restaurant week menu plus the shrimp toast because we couldn't pass it up. The shrimp toast was probably the best bite of the night. We couldn't believe how enormous the caesar salad was or how crispy the chicken bao were.
Let me tell you about the Italian wedding ramen. The broth was thick and savory, the noodles had the perfect bite, and there were so many fun and tasty additions: meatballs, brisket, rice cakes, etc.
Since our reservation was so late we were basically closing the place up. But we weren't rushed or anything. The only downside is that they ran out of the black sesame tiramisu and cannoli since it was literally the end of the night. We did expect this to happen, and they graciously got us two flan instead even though it wasn't part of the restaurant week options.
We WILL be back. Excellent service, super fun food that's not gimmicky at all and backed by flavor, and overall a great concept.

Yelp
Conceptually, the dishes we had were really interesting and had a lot of potential. However, the execution was pretty rough on 3/4 dishes we had.
We started with the sweetbread bao buns which were absolutely phenomenal! We had these alongside some really wonderful cocktails (The Milan and The Miki) which were also excellent! Will likely be returning for these things alone.
Then we got the shrimp toast, which is advertised as being served with a red curry sauce. The plate we received tasted VERY strongly of coconut, which was not advertised. Sure, a common flavor in curry- but isn't always present. The menu should reflect that this dish is a coconut curry.
I got the Cacio e Pepe, which already had a very tacky and sticky sauce on its own. It was supposed to come with Sichuan pepper- which was the primary reason I ordered it. It came an unnoticeable amount. I asked for a side of the pepper, which seemed to confuse the server. She returned from the kitchen claiming it wasn't possible for me to get a side of the peppercorns.
My boyfriend got the orange chicken parm- mostly out of curiosity. It was simply just a strange dish. We were both excited and curious to see how those two dishes could meld together well- they can't.
We were here on opening night, so hopefully some kinks were worked out- because the vibe of the restaurant itself was really cool and the dishes are really interesting!

Yelp
Impressed. My date had orange cosmo, and Ramen. She was all smiles so you know what that means . The orange chicken was a delight, I suggested that bring wings back on menu as well.

Yelp
Everything, from the Asian Italian food concept to the service, was fantastic. We ended up ordering nearly the entire menu (too much to list). Our top picks were the spicy tuna roll, shrimp toast, kung pao chicken buns, cacio e pepe, ramen, caprese wrap, orange chicken parm, cauliflower steak, and eggplant pizza.

Yelp
The concept of this place is very interesting being asian Italian fusion. The fusion was definitely there and the dishes were very unique. I went opening weekend and it seemed like they were still working out some of the recipes - a bit bland. The desserts however were great. Unique asian twists on classic Italian staples. The service was also very friendly.

Yelp
This was one of the worst meals I've had. My party and I were extremely disappointed with the food. I ordered kung pao bao and the chicken was very dry and bland. For entree I had the adobo stinco which was also very bland. Although the meat did fall off the bone but there was no flavor to the meat and some parts were a little dry. My friend ordered Italian-Asian wedding ramen and we thought it was a joke. There was no shrimp dumplings, the wagyu meatballs were burnt black and so dry, and the shaved brisket was so dry and burnt that even after sitting in the broth for however long, it was still crunchy because of how burnt it was. For dessert I got the tofu flan and the tofu was not smooth. Overall, not only was the food not well prepared, but the flavors weren't there. This is not a true Italian-Asian fusion. Beyond disappointed

Yelp
Very interesting! The arancini-crispy rice and Kung Pao Bao were favorites. Eggplant pizza is more like a flatbread but delicious. Cocktails featured Japanese whiskey and yuzu as well as limoncello and Prosecco. Service was attentive (thanks, Jamie!). Could upgrade glassware to glass to go with the more upscale vibe. Overall, worth checking out!

Yelp
Top 5 worst meals of my life. The food, especially the fish, is not fresh. I almost spit out the cod dumplings. The menu is really tragic. I don't think the owner ever tasted these dishes before serving to customers. The pastas were the most edible but still not good. The service was also bad but compared to the food, it's not worth complaining about. Our waitress gave us one glass of water to split between two people. I'm genuinely confused by this restaurant.
