When we were new in Taylor, back in 1995, our friend, Jon, came for a visit and suggested that we grab lunch from Davis BBQ. That was some of the best BBQ I’ve EVER had! At that time, they were located down the street. We have been loyal customers since. I’m really glad that they have moved into this larger building with A/C. Their food is always the same, pure perfection!! Thank you Mr Davis for your devotion to the very best BBQ in Taylor! I’m so glad that they are still doing so well. ❤️

Google
Davis bbq is some of the best dang bbq I have ever had. Meet falls off the bone, their cabbage is the best I have eaten, and everyone was so friendly. Honestly, best bbq in a long long time. Next time we are here, we will be back!!

Emmy Kolanko

Google
Holy smokes!! This is a must stop BBQ joint. The brisket was some of the best I’ve had. We tried four different sides and they were all mouth-watering. The portions were generous and we had leftovers. Mr. Davis was really sweet to chat with, too!

Lynne Davidson

Google
We had a really great lunch here. I think we tried everything on the menu, brisket, sausage, ribs, green beans, cabbage, potato, salad, and corn. Everything was really really good, their barbecue sauce is delicious.

Google
Every time we are in town, we always go to Davis Grocery and BBQ. The meat is always seasoned well and is always tender. The brisket and sausage is flavored to perfection. Their sides are always delicious and today I had the banana pudding for dessert and I would definitely go back for seconds. Thank you Mr. Davis for the wonderful food and the great conversation.

Google
Some of the best BBQ I've ever had and we Texans have had our share of variations of BBQ! Every time I drive thru Taylor I make it a point to stop by. This time they had their Mutton ribs (and I had to also get a brisket sandwich with lots of sauce & potato salad... all to go to savor over the next few days!!) I haven't had Mutton ribs since I was a child! They were crazy good!! And they have many orher yummy sides!! And everyone is so friendly! DO NOT miss this quaint little place!!

Not wanting to stand in line in the 95 degree heat of central Texas, we decided to go to the other barbeque place in Taylor. This was by far the best decision that the Mrs. made the entire week. This place, I would call a hole in the wall that seemed to be visited more by the locals than the tourists. This was without a doubt the best baby back ribs I've had in a long time. I also sampled the brisket and sausage, also both very good. The food was so good we decided to make life easy for father's day and get some to go and take with us back to Louisiana. Highly recommend!

Google
Taylor TX has some good bbq my new favorite is the brisket at Davis Grocery & BBQ. Old school counter service, homemade sides, delicious brisket. Give them a try you won’t be disappointed! They even gave my pup a sample I confess I ate Layla’s burnt ends 😂

Rosaura A.

Yelp
Food is authentic and delicious -- he's been doing this for YEARS, and doing it well! The service was wonderful. A mom-and-pop restaurant. Ambiance is not typical -- such a cool spot! I've gone back SEVERAL times! I'm hungry writing about it!!! - 1/14/2025

Yelp
Could have been an off day, but this one isn't one I'll return to. I love a good humble bbq joint and I was excited to try the ribs, brisket and raved about sides like mac and cheese. Unfortunately, none of this really tasted all that wonderful, and I was most disappointed in the mac and cheese -- has the recipe changed, or am I missing something?

Yelp
Decided to drive through Taylor to check out Davis' Bar-B-Q rather than going into Austin for the precious BBQ you may need to take out a second mortgage to afford. It was a great decision, this was a warm place full of Southern hospitality and the folks went out of their way to make sure we everything we wanted - extra sauce, pickles and onions, etc. There was a wide range of meat available and new mouth watering options kept being brought out of the kitchen. Race there to get yourself some great BBQ, but be careful driving over the RR tracks because they are kind of in rough shape. Places like this are the local jewels of the BBQ world!

Katie O.

Yelp
We had brisket, sausage, green beans, baked beans and Mac-n-cheese. The food was yummy. Our favorite part was the sausage. The service was down home and friendly. We enjoyed our food outside at a picnic table, under a shade tree. It was a lovely experience as we were passing through for the day. Glad we found this great place!

Wanda M.

Yelp
Ate there twice and the food was neither good and the staff were neither "warm and welcoming" as many reviews have stated. I'm very coinfused about all the 5 star reviews but for me two tries is enough. I won't go back.

C P.

Yelp
Heard about this place & decided to give it a try... wow!! Soooo glad I did!!! Best $8.66 I've spent on a meat sandwich this side of the Rockies!!! #Brisket #perfection! Located on the other side of the tracks (two, actually) in South #Taylor, #TX... #DavisBBQ does not disappoint!! Met the proprietor, James, & his bro-in-law, Norm, both of whom were kind, welcoming, and full of local lore! You can buy meats & Lamb by the pound or via plated style, and they cater events! Simple to find, private parking lot or street parking available, just down from a big Feed Store. Def my #BrisketBBQ #GoTo !

Bill M.

Yelp
Disappointed in my experience with the takeout we tried. The brisket was average, quite a thick fat cap remaining on it. The mac and cheese was disgusting. Was like a paste and had very limited flavor. The beans were okay. The lone elevated point was the potato salad. I can say it was good. Other than the food, the counter service was really good, friendly and welcoming. Might give it another try one day if ever in the area again. Maybe caught them on a very off day with the mac.

Joe W.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in Taylor! Stop by and see the Pastor for an amazing lunch! If you are one who loves their BBQ to be covered in sauce this is your spot hands down! Their BBQ sauce is very good, and adds great flavor to the meat. The gentleman working the store were very friendly and even offered up some of their pound cake! Great customer service, and some great food for Taylor.

Michael S.

Yelp
30 years of doing it right. Please don't tell the tourists about this place. Let em go to Louie's. The smothered cabbage with sausage is the bomb. The brisket, get outa town, chicken is finger lickin, Elgin sausage cooked to the perfect snap, ribs make you wanna pat Adam on the back!

Keasha E.

Yelp
Small grocery store that also makes and sells bbq. Ribs and chicken were very good as well as the cabbage. There are some tables inside and out for dining. Owners were very friendly.

Robert S.

Yelp
I probably shouldn't be writing because this jewel will soon be discovered by more than just the locals. The food is always fresh, hot, and well prepared. These folks are local and take pride in serving great food at a reasonable price.

Susan S.

Yelp
Wrong food. Horrible brisket. Uncooked chicken. Mac n cheese awful. And they don't even reach out to you. Has gone from 5 stars to 0 not sure why. And don't feel welcomed anymore.

John W.

Yelp
I've had a couple other bbq joints in Taylor, both of which I've been to numerous times. First time stopping in at Davis bbq, and I have to say I should have came here a long time go. Delicious brisket, some of the best I've had since moving to Texas. Very tender and mouthwatering with each bite. The only downside was one of the sides I got, beans. Was hoping they were something homemade but can tell they're from the can. It's not entirely a dealbreaker on sides because the Mac made up for the bean disappointment. Will definitely be coming in again when I'm in the area to try more of the menu

Jerry S.

Yelp
Davis Grocery and Barbeque located just around the corner from Williamson County Grain and Fertilizer Supply Store has the best pit barbecue smoked to its perfection on their homemade pits using their selected oak firewood!!! Their hand seasoned briskets and freshly smoked pork sausage are freshly smoked daily on their pits very early in the morning!!! The owners customer service is very helpful and friendly in providing for their customers the most freshest and tasteful pit barbecue and smoked sausage and tasty sauce to satisfy their customers needs during each visit!!! Their grocery store has a variety of essential items including milk and sodas and bread and just about everything else that you would find while shopping in similar supermarket!!! I have to admit and recommend Davis Grocery and Barbeque that their barbecue and sausage is the my favorite and best tasting barbecue and sausage within the Taylor and surrounding areas!!!Jerry Stefek

Laura B.

Yelp
Little general store with BBQ and sides. Tables inside and out, but no patio ambiance. Brisket, chicken, potato salad and cabbage was good. The ribs were dry. Out of the proteins the brisket was the best. They were out of mac and cheese and coleslaw. If we knew they served this BBQ in the cute bar downtown we would have gone there instead. We drove by that bar and it looked cool, gay pride flag and Beto sign. Taylor has arrived.

Susan L.

Yelp
Just what I'm hungry for when it comes to down home BBQ! Don't plan on stopping in Taylor Texas if you don't plan on this guy's great food. Love the family atmosphere, little grocery market, friendly and very accommodating service. You'll just love this little place for every reason you can think of, or, you can order, pick up, take home and eat in your little Jammie's!!!

Bryan S.

Yelp
This spot is a bit off the beaten path, and I wasn't sure they were even open, but they were, and it was worth the trip. Having never been there before, I opted for the 3-meat combo, selecting brisket, ribs, and sausage. The beef and sausage were both very good, the ribs were good but a bit dry or my taste. The sides were something else! They had a number to choose from, but quite frankly after I saw the green beans spiked with smoked meat and cabbage, again with the smoked meat added, I didn't even hear the rest. Both were great! Perhaps cooked more than most of today's restaurants serve them, but rather in the old "soul food style" - just plain tasty! Friendly and welcoming staff that seem eager to please. IMHO, much better than the other BBQ places in Taylor that I've been to.

Roady C.

Yelp
Stopped by today to give this place a try after looking for a BBQ place in the area. After reading the reviews I figure what the heck.. WOW!!! I decided to get some brisket, sausage and a couple of ribs. I know Taylor is famous for that other BBQ place that seems To either hardly be open, outrageous prices and did I mention hardly open. Well this place is open, friendly and the food is amazing. The brisket is really amazing but just to pre warn some of you the brisket comes and is accompany by that loving juicy natural flavor called "fat" that many places do away with. The sausage is flavorful, tasty and very delicious. The ribs were as well. For sure will be going back. This place it really a hidden Gem to many outsides that are not aware. Highly recommend this place. And If you decide to make the trip cheers to good eating.

Heather B.

Yelp
Absolutely DELICIOUS!!!! Friendly, knowledgeable, casual, relaxed atmosphere. They even jar their sauce for sale, YUM! Full menu including sides & desserts. Highly recommend!!! Do not miss this gem when you're in the Taylor TX area!!!

Julie D.

Yelp
Amazing bbq! Service was warm and inviting. Love this place. I am visiting from Ca and will make this restaurant a priority next time I am in town.

Cathy T.

Yelp
We tried the brisket ribs and 2 different sausages All were delicious. They will give you a taste before ordering. Many different sides to choose from. We tried potato salad, Mac and cheese and scalloped potatoes. Very good sides. The staff is kind and patient and come to your table to ask if all is ok

Rex C.

Yelp
Davis grocery bbq is part of the Texas bbq trail. Davis bbq has been here for 24 years. Don't let the outside or inside fool you. This is pretty solid bbq. Food: I got the sausage plate with bbq beans and potato salad. Really good sausage. They have three types. They will let you sample each one to see which one you like best. Sausage was pretty good. The potato salad wasn't homemade but pretty good. The pitmaster was really friendly and nice. He brought me out three of their home made side samples to try. My god they were so good! Green bean salad, cabbage and peas. So damm good! They also cut me a piece of smoked chicken to my table to try. Customer service: amazing. They really go above and beyond to make the client feel at home. I really want to try the brisket and ribs next time. I wasn't too hungry but thought I should stop by. So far I have one checked off the Texas bbq legends trail. If you are in the area give them a shot.

Ruth H.

Yelp
The food is highly overrated. We ordered chicken chicken and it was closer in size to a Cornish hen. The brisket was just ok and the Mac and cheese was tasteless. Very disappointing

Carlos And Ellie D.

Yelp
Great service and even better BBQ!! Definitely worth the stop if you're in Taylor. Can't wait to come back

Libby P.

Yelp
I love to go to Davis Bbcue. The food is very good ; Texas style bbcue. You can go sit outside at the picnic tables.

Helen F.

Yelp
Great food and drinks! The best onion rings I've ever had in my entire life! On my, a must if you ever eat here! They are delish! Great Mexican martinis too! Yummm

Pearlie S.

Yelp
Davis BBQ is the best bbq in town. Wow.. Not only the food but also the service. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The overall experience is amazing. Love this place.

Shannon G.

Yelp
Definitely one of my favorite bbq places in Taylor! Affordable (as far as bbq is concerned), super friendly staff, and they have a heavy hand with that brisket which I throughly appreciate.

Agustin V.

Yelp
Best bar b q Ive had in a long time! I heard about this place from the day tripper on YouTube and it did not disappoint. Coming in from Austin and I'll be back next week this is the spot!

Andrew P.

Yelp
While I was visiting Texas, I was told by everyone to get some BBQ. After many failed attempts we finally came across this establishment. The food was great - I enjoyed the Brisket and Beans, but felt the spicy sausage was the better choice. The Spicy Sausage was fantastic - plenty of flavor with the right amount of spice.

Mary T.

Yelp
Idk about the sides but my gosh the brisket and sausage is delicious. Everybody knows Taylor is famous for a particular BBQ ( i'm not naming names) but Davis knocks them out of the park.

Nancy S.

Yelp
Found this place on yelp because the other bbq place was closed on Monday when we wanted to go. Delicious beef brisket and sausages, very tender and the bbq sauce was good and complimented the meats perfectly. The sides were very tasty. I'm a foodie from Cali and would definitely go again next time I'm in that area.

Kate K.

Yelp
A little off the beaten path but so worth it! Every time I go they remember me and ask about family. They are very welcoming. I have a couple of favorite meats from here; the pork steak sandwich (huge portions), the brisket sandwich, and a few slices of brisket. Sides vary each day but never refuse the cabbage if they have it! It's so yummy!!

Lovin L.

Yelp
Hidden gem! Why so many people flock to the other barbecue place is beyond me! Mr. Davis you got it going on! Just because his establishment isn't fancy and big and he uses fancy marketing this mans barbecue speaks for itself! He really does have the best barbecue in town, hands down! Look at his reviews...no one says 1 bad thing about this mans barbecue!!

Nickie B.

Yelp
For disclosure I need to tell you I'm a BBQ snob and have high standards for brisket. The brisket at Davis has the right amount of smoke, its tender and very moist (including the lean). The sausage comes regular and spicy and has the perfect snap when you take a bite. The sides are also good, which is hard to find in combination with good brisket. On most days they offer baked beans, pinto beans, ranch beans, cole slaw, potato salad, stewed cabbage, mac & cheese and jambalaya. Their homemade sauce is good too, but it's a little sweet for my taste. And if you can believe it they only charge .79 cents for a can of soda...and boy do they have a selection.

Richard A.

Yelp
Things happen for a reason. It was my birthday and I wanted to go to Lexington to try a highly rated 'Q' venue but since they are only open one day of the week and also being informed that there are usually long lines and a good wait, my Yelper comrades and I opted to check out a couple of BBQ joints in Taylor and Davis Grocery and Bar-B-Q certainly got the top prize for being the best I've had in ages at non-inflated prices. I have become accustomed to oak slow smoked meats but Davis mesquite smoked meats definitely did not disappoint. We ordered, moist brisket, mutton, pork spare ribs, sausage and seven sides, cabbage, three types of beans, corn, potato salad, and jambalaya. They were all excellent but the potato salad really stood out. Without any doubt, I will be back!

Don A.

Yelp
Great melt in your mouth brisket and fantastic tasting sausage. They've been there 26 years. Courteous owners that will serve you up some amazing food. If you want don't want Commercialized bbq and will be better than anything you've tried then make the drive. It's worth the drive to check this place out!

Chris C.

Yelp
As I travel rural Texas I always go out of my way to sit down to a great plate of barbecue but today threw me a curve ball. I had planned to stop at another well known barbecue joint in Taylor but was greeted with a closed sign. It was Monday. I googled to find Davis Barbecue just down the street and around the corner so having my mind set on some good Q I took the detour. Man, what a great find! Ribs and brisket were as good as any I've ever had! Great people and outstanding food! Stop by when you're in town.

Chris M.

Yelp
Wow. The BBQ Gods have spoken, Davis Grocery & BBQ is the BEST BBQ I've ever had - - hands down. Yeah, I said it, THE BEST. Forget Salt Lick, Sam's, Franklin's, or Louie's (in Taylor). These guys are just down right phenomenal. It was Divine Intervention that led me to Davis Grocery & BBQ, which is operated by brothers James and Danny Davis. I found their flawless reviews on Yelp and made my way over on a Friday evening. I walked in and the first thing I said to them was: "oh shoot, are you guys cash only??" James (who also happens to be a Preacher) said they take cash and checks only, no cc's. For an instant I thought I was doomed w/ only $3 in my pocket, I knew I didn't have my checkbook with me. I told them I would be right back Low and behold after sifting frantically through my glove department - holy cow - I found a brand new book of checks!! It was so unexpected, how did those get there? Divine Intervention. The building looks small from the outside but it's quite roomy inside with several picnic tables and plenty of grocery items along the pantry walls. But it's the large oval cooker on the counter where all the magic's at. They open it up and it's like looking into a pot of gold from the Pirates of the Caribbean, all that smoky BBQ goodness. James then said to me: "are you ready to get hooked? Because it's gonna happen, you're gonna get hooked..." I was like "Lord I'm ready for the BBQ Promise Land!!". The Lamb Ribs were off the wall, best I've ever had, good quality meat and so smoky. Same with the Beef & Pork Ribs - - wow. But we're not done yet - - the brisket was oh so tender and juicy, it's also the best ever, and the Morgan Sausage is cooked and smoked to perfection. Most BBQ places I've been to have a couple of exceptional meats while the rest is average, but everything here is excellent - which is why I think they're top notch. You can get meat by the pound or in a combo plate w/ poto salad + beans. The poto salad comes out of a bucket yet it's very good quality, and the icing on the cake is their awesome BBQ sauce. It's slightly sweet and tangy, with some smoky flavor - - and it's so darn good you can sip it with a straw - - that's what I did. Yeah, I know BBQ is all about the meat, but a good sauce is icing on the cake. It's a bonus, and who doesn't love bonuses? Another big plus - - their prices are extremely reasonable. 3 meat plate w/ 2 sides for $9.50, and that's way-way cheaper than the local Taylor competition (Louie). The customer service here was also impeccable, they aim to please. Some of the locals told me they usually run out of BBQ since they're so popular, especially on Saturday evenings, but if you call ahead they'll let you know. James said his sister makes a killer sweet potato pie (my fave!) and peach cobbler, they'll have some out soon for the holiday season. I stake my reputation and palate that the Davis Brothers have a great thing going on here - - it's the best BBQ I've ever had. Meat is exceptional quality, smoked and cooked to perfection, a great small town Texas experience. They are two of the most down to earth and genuine people you will ever meet, we had a lot of fun just talking about stuff and how James said the Lord led him to do this work. The Davis Brothers just want to make you happy so you leave with a smile, and on this Friday evening I drove the whole way home w/ a smoky smile. This place really is BBQ Heaven.

Otis M.

Yelp
Mmm... MUTTON. I came here on a brisket tour of the area but the guy in front of me was getting a plate of a meat with an unusual, glistening fat like nothing I've seen on brisket. Was it mutton? Why yes, and would you like a taste? Indeed I would! The stuff was ethereal... none of that gamy taste and none of the burned skanky fat I've experienced elsewhere, just magnificent Texas BBQ with the interesting twist of a lamb-y goodness. As a bonus, when slicing up a pound he plucked out the bones before weighing... how good is that? I also tried the brisket and it was great, but the mutton is in the stratosphere. Don't leave Taylor without it.

David N.

Yelp
Since moving to central Texas a few months I have been to over a dozen BBQ's including some very highly rated ones. So far this one has been THE BEST. Had the Brisket, chicken, sausage and the Rev. Davis slipped a little but of the mutton (lamb) ribs. All were outstanding as was the mac and cheese. The Rev. was off duty that day and appeared to be busy with personal stuff but he stopped by my outside table to talk a little. Nice folks there, actuall has a grocery attached. I WILL BE BACK.

Susan L.

Yelp
What's not to love Down-Home cookin. Relax and buy a few groceries while your plates are gettin filled up. Friendly and sweet people all the time I might add! Ribs ribs ribs need lots of "nakkins"! Sometimes we can even get a little southern homemade dessert, and I love those bottled Big Reds! Childhood memories just keep comin right from the get-go.

Starla A.

Yelp
Omgosh!! A hole in the wall place that is worth the drive! We got the 3 meat plate. Ribs, sausage and brisket with the side of potato salad, mac & cheese. I'm not a sausage girl but that was delish! Ribs had good flavor but stop the truck and let me out to grab another helping of THAT BRISKET!! The crust on it was amazing and the rest just MELTED in your mouth. We live only 30 min away and we are already looking forward to our next lunch at the Davis Grocery & BBQ!!

Max G.

Yelp
Jim Davis is the nicest guy. When my wife and I were here in 2012, we loved his barbecue. He still uses a broken down 21 year old smoker and turns out some good barbecue. His brisket was dry and overcooked, but the ribs were delicious, as was the sausage (which he gets from Elgin). We give Davis a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.

I M.

Yelp
I was so disappointed with the customer service. I arrived on Wednesday afternoon @ 3:50 p.m. really excited to try this place. We saw it on Day Tripper and drove to Taylor just for the experience. I opened the door and asked "you all still open?" The person behind the counter snapped at me " well you wouldn't have gotten in the door if we were closed" He seemed very bothered by me and then yelled at me to shut the door behind me. At first I thought he was kidding...but he had a very unfriendly face and was very rude in his demeanor. So, I left...kinda of in shock that I was treated in that manner. Very disappointing since clearly the person behind the counter was not the person who was featured on the segment. By the sounds of the other reviews I must have obviously gone on a bad day.

Jay N.

Yelp
Out for a ride through the countryside and ended up in Taylor Texas.saw this place on yelp.stopped to try different sausages and barbecue chicken and brisket. Oh the food was excellently prepared and very good, the staff was friendly and welcoming .we had a great time, great little place - if you're in the area give it a try ! We all loved it

Niki L.

Yelp
Loved it. I was not impressed with Louie Mueller at all. I was told about this place and was not disappointed. I made sure to get the 3 meat combo so that I could get a sample of each of my favs. Everything was yummy. Will definitely be back!

Jay J.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I've been to Texas several times. I've also been to several BBQ places. Davis BBQ has been the best that I've had in Texas. I got the combo, because I wanted to try all 3 meets Brisket, Ribs & Sausage. Now, I'm not a big fan of sausage but this sausage was pretty good. I really loved the Brisket and the ribs. The service is great, he likes to take his time and fix your plate, like your at home! I would say go by and give Davis Grocery a try.

Michelle R.

Yelp
Best barbecue around. The service is great and I would recommend this establishment to anyone.
