"Svenska Cafe, located along Maple Road in Birmingham, has been offering Swedish open-faced sandwiches, kanelbullar cinnamon rolls, and kolasnittar caramel shortbreads for three years. Notably, the semlor—a Swedish pastry made with cardamom buns filled with almond paste and whipped cream—has gained popularity, especially around Fat Tuesday. The pastries are made by Ingela Oginsky, who learned to bake from her mother. The cafe attracts Swedish expatriates, including hockey players from the Detroit Red Wings, and those seeking to reconnect with their Swedish heritage. Svenska Cafe is located at 930 E Maple Rd. in Birmingham and takes orders for semlor via Facebook up until Easter." - Brenna Houck

Daycap has quickly become my go-to coffee spot in Birmingham! It’s right next to my office, so I stop in all the time, and their **Maple Sea Salt Latte** is hands down one of the best I’ve ever had—just the right amount of sweetness with a little salty kick. The menu is simple yet packed with delicious options, with fresh, tasty food that pairs perfectly with their coffee. The vibe is warm and welcoming, whether I’m grabbing a quick bite or just taking a break. If you’re in the area, definitely check it out—you won’t be disappointed! ☕

I tried one of their signature lattes, a protein-loaded bean salad, and some tiny sugary bites. Everything was deliciously satisfying. The owner and staff were very friendly, and they even offered complimentary donut hole samples. I definitely want to return!

I attended a meeting in Birmingham, that turned into a working lunch. The facilitator of the meeting surprised us with a catered lunch from this gem. I had the Spicy Italian Panini! My bread was toasted to perfection. With every bite came a nice crunch of bread and delicious ingredients. The meat, cheese, veggies and bread were all fresh. I apologize in advance as I took the photo after I began eating my sandwich. I realize this sandwich was way tasty to not leave a picture with a review. If you are ever in this area, stop in or order takeout. You will not be disappointed!

Daycap Coffee Bar is easily one of my new favorite spots! Their signature lattes are amazing—smooth, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweetness. I also tried one of their paninis, and it was fresh, perfectly toasted, and super satisfying. The pastries are just as good—flaky, delicious, and the perfect treat to go with a coffee. The service here is excellent. The staff is really friendly and welcoming, and even when it’s busy, they get orders out fast without cutting corners. It’s hard to find a place that does both great food and great service, but they absolutely nail it.

I got the Poppleton Latte which had raspberry and dark chocolate syrup, and espresso which was very delicious and smooth! I found the price to be fair for a small latte which came out to a little over five dollars. The workers were very kind and seemed to know the regulars and chat with them! I will definitely be back and recommending this place to my friends!

I was working in the area and popped in. Got a Shaken, Not Stirred Espresso iced with whole milk and it was fantastic. Could taste the expresso and the subtle flavors being added to the drink. Not sweet at all. Had a great conversation with Val, one of the owners. This place does it right and next time in the area, I won't even look to go anywhere else. Keep up the good work guys!

The other day I went to this great coffee ☕️ shop and while I was there I had the opportunity to meet the owner. The young owner Exhibited amazing hospitality. Furthermore more the food and beverage quality is five star. Definitely is a place I would recommend to family and friends.

I’ve tried a lot of cheesecakes, but this one was by far the weirdest I’ve ever tasted. The flavor was off, and the texture didn’t feel right. On top of that, the coffee wasn’t good either – it lacked flavor and was just disappointing overall. Svenska, the previous owner of this coffee shop, is way better in both quality and taste. Definitely not what I was expecting, and I won’t be coming back for more!

Yelp
A cute little cafe that I didn't know existed. We came here for our first stop for a mystery date package, and unfortunately the shop had new owners and didn't honor the pre-purchased package. Despite that, very strong coffee and good sandwich. The services are smaller more aligned with traditional european sizes however. I'd definitely give them another try.

Yelp
The service was friendly but slow. We had this exchange: Me: How is the soup? Server: I'm not sure we have soup, let me check. 10 minutes later, my soup came out of a microwave at a satanic molten lava temperature. No crackers! The matcha was pretty good. When the soup cooled, it was good enough but not spectacular. I wouldn't come here for food. Or if you have a time crunch. But it's cute. European-cozy ambience. And it was friendly, that matters!

Yelp
Have been to this cafe many, many times. The food is always fresh, tasty & really good as are the drinks with friendly customer service. Highly recommend

Yelp
this cafe has new ownership and the coffee is outstanding. Best in Detroit. Also the pastries, sandwiches and breakfast eats are delish. This is not your typical zip in and out cafe as evertyhing is made fresh by the owner and staff, so plan to spend a minute - it's worth it. also love supporting an independent small business.

Yelp
Service was rude. Display case appeared smudged and contained items looking not very appealing. Latte I ordered contained 4 ingridients and they were out of one of them. The name outside says a different same than Svenska.
