dbar Review - Dorchester - Boston - The Infatuation

"We’re not sure whether dbar on Dot Ave is an Irish pub that feels like a club, or a club that feels like an Irish pub. But labels aren’t important (even when they rhyme). This place is just fun. It’s got a great, bamboo-lined back patio for when the weather’s nice, and a dark but comfortable wood-lined interior for when it’s not. The menu is kind of all over the place, with things like crab rangoon, brick chicken, and tacos, but it gets the job done while you order another drink." - Dan Secatore

Google
Their fliers always state free entry; however, when you get there the security at the entry way on Sundays is always trying to charge people. One week it might be $10 depending on how much money he's made so far, next time it might be $20. If you're not familiar with the area, there are plenty of bars and lounges along the strip that are absolutely FREE THE ENTIRE NIGHT like stated. They would have 4stars if it wasn't for the cheap lying help outside.

There for my 61st birthday with friends and I love it! We had a reserved booth section with good view of the entire lounge. This is a grown folks spot directly across the street from a bar lounge for the younger crowd. Strong drinks at a good price being poured by a beautiful bartender. DJ was spinning old school R&B and it was a mixed crowd due to Pride weekend! Parking is horrible after the $20 parking fills up. Parking on the street in the surrounding residential areas may result in tickets or towing if you don't pay attention to the signs.

Yelp
Never been here b4. Is it a Free entrance? What is the best day and time to go there? What time does Happy Hour start and what days? How does Cover Charge work and when is it? Is parking a problem? Do you have free Parking? What is the price to park if they charging?

Yelp
Dbar! Listen, this won't be a five star review because this place in a hole in the wall and they hardly like to pour your drinks in glasses. Please chill with those plastic kiddie cups! Lol! Anyway, my checkins don't reflect the number of times I've been here. I usually come on Fridays for live music to hear Kollett and The Unyt Band. I enjoy the crowd during this time because it's an older crowd. Once the band is over around 10ish, it's time to go because the youngsters will begin to flood the place and the atmosphere changes. I've also been on Sunday afternoons when the crowd is older as well. It's cool for what it is.

Yelp
We were in town visiting friends and went here on our last night in the city. It was a Sunday and we went by around 5p there weren't a lot of people there which was totally fine because the folks who were there were a lot of fun. The crowd was older (40+) with the exception of us and he bartender. The drinks were good with a full bar, wine and beer. The most exciting part was the food tent outside! I had my favorite meal while in Houston from the smoker outside this spot!

Yelp
Ok second run first run was a few years ago, but noticed a huge overhaul. New Look is great with booth seating and wood look for DJ booth. Music was a hit new old and it kept the crowd moving. DJ he talked and narratived every song which was funny also disturbing he was a little nasty mouthed a few times but the crowd didn't mind. Age 18-60 no lie it was generations in there . Not sure about bar or restroom didn't visit neither. Bar maid cleaned table at booth by swiping trash from table to floor , but never returned to remove it a little gross. Hookah's were a popular item among a few .

Yelp
Older respectful crowd. First time visiting from Charlotte. Reggie was super cool and friendly. He was welcoming and will definitely visit the establishment again. We meet a few people whole there that were hospitable. They also offer hookah. The djay was playing all the current radio jams. A fun Sunday afternoon.

Yelp
Ok, I'll start by saying that I like finding a dive bar/lounge in inner city urban areas of Houston to hear some good old school rap/hip hop and R&B. What I don't like is finding a place in urban areas where I'm more concerned about my car or valuables than I am about how many cocktails I can have. If only the owners could take this lounge and place it in a safer subdivision. I would rate it 4 stars. The music is great mostly souther rap mixed with 90's rap/hip hop and occasional new age rap/r&b selections. Not the see and be seen crowd. Very laid back. However, I've heard too many times of car vandalism or break in's. Plus too much loitering from some of the locals.

Yelp
OK - be forewarned...this spot is located in the hood! While staring at the front door from the car, we decided to kick off heels off in exchange for flip flops. From the outside you would think this is not the place you'd ever want to be, especially at night fall. But once your in...you're in... and it will be hard to leave. During the AllStar weekend day party, it was packed with local rap artists being supported by men and women wearing suits, young and old. It was a very laid back, respectful atmosphere and hosted by a hilarious women...wish I could recall her name. We first arrived thinking we'd stay for a few drinks, then leave. We stayed from 2 PM until well past 9 PM and enjoyed every minute. We danced the night away and exchanged numbers with other Dallas-ites in the area for AllStar. Our Ciroc drinks were only $5 and the bathroom was the cleanest I've ever seen in a club... and without an attendant!!! Goes to show that just because a spot is located in the hood, doesn't mean it's not filled with classy people. Before heading back to Dallas, all my girls enjoyed motorcycle rides around the neighborhood from a group of bikers that stopped through. If I ever return to H-town, this is the place I'll be.

Yelp
The best bartender in HOUSTON is Tamika I PROMISE. You come to d bar she makes sure you have your drink on time and you get what you actually ask for. Drinks on point. The crowd after 10pm is the bomb. If you want to come early it's great, they have food service which is great, if you like southern soul food this is the place. I've been here 4times and 4times I have not yet been disappointed. Also if you're into hookah they have hookah great prices and ALL flavors!!!! DBAR!!!!

Yelp
I came here last night with my friend after we left another lounge. It was pretty cool & the crowd started picking up not too long after we arrived. The place is real chill, nothing fancy about it. You had a variety of people there from all ages. I saw a few people in suits down to the young wild girls in their booty shorts (and I mean booty shorts). So the attire is obviously flexible. I didn't try any of their drinks due to the fact I already had a few at the previous lounge. The DJ played great music and we enjoyed the selections he played. I will say that this is one of the few times that the male population outnumbered the female population. Now one thing I did not like was that they had nachos, but it was set up like a kiddie party with the crock pot & Styrofoam bowls. Now who made the cheese or what, I do not know. What I do know is that I definitely was not going to eat it. But other than that little flaw that I observed, I do not mind returning and I will update my review when I try their drinks.

Yelp
The old timers here start drinking, socializing, and eating very early on in the day. I happened to be with a "regular" and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I really felt like I was in-the-know and part of something local, authentic, and long standing. Depending on the time you visit, this is either a neighborhood bar or a local, swanky spot. Happy juking...

Yelp
My local watering has come to an abrupt end with no warning. They are now closed...I watched so many people this past weekend park and walk up only to be met with closed doors, no music and darkness. I had a lot of good times here. Some I remember and some not so much. LOL...It will definitely be missed.

Yelp
I love this place because it's simple. I could come straight from the court house, class, church or wherever and go right into the Dbar and feel comfortable. The days of the week determine what type of crowd you'll get. Let's say on a Monday night, it would be me, my home girl, 3 random old guys and the staff lol. We still manage to have an awesome time...But, on a Saturday night it's everybody you went to high school, undergrad and graduate school with, plus co-workers and several other people from around the city. It's so packed on Saturday nights! The drinks are hella strong. The "Startenders" do a great job on drinks: 2 is enough of anything you order, excluding beer and wine. The staff is really friendly too. Overall, it's a cool little place. It can be very hood though but that should be understandable.

Yelp
Mmmm....I do like this place. Went here on a Monday n it was surprisingly fun. Nice crowd for the most part...(u do have some crack heads in there though) ; lively music; free food; but the best part? $5 dollar drinks!! Wow!! $5 dollar drinks including premium drinks!! Will definitely be back! Be warned though it is in the hood!!

Yelp
Good ol d-bar. like the previous reviewer, it is the hood. if you know this gem you will have no problem with what you might see. yes its crushes of people constantly standing to be seen or moving though either to find a better location to be seen or just trek to the bathroom way on the other side of the room but its ok. the times i have been its been hot inside and outside so thats my only complaint that the fans above are not in center but the music is bumping and the tvs have on the game so its all good.

Yelp
Hood spot, but a lot of fun! Food trucks outside, D boys tryna holla, reminds me of a Slim Thug video! The bartenders don't measure the shots, so the drinks are on point. Got called bourgeois a couple of times, but it was worth it! Definitely not an every weekend type venue, but I enjoyed myself.

Yelp
Welcome back, to another HOOD REVIEW. This review is about a lounge I go and chill at called Dowling Lounge. I must say that I am very impress by the space and the security in there. It have very nice furniture and lights. I am not a big fan of the happy hour. I would say the best days to go are on a Friday or Saturday. If you want a good time to drink and relax this is the place. Again, it is off Dowling parking is on the street and it is an URBAN crowd. So if you have children get you a baby sister and come out an chill. The only reason why I don't give it 5 stars is because they do not have any waitress. I am very big on that, I don't like walking to the bar, waiting in a long line and losing my place next to a sexy lady. UGGGHHH, now that really pisses me off. People who do lounges, remember to get waiter's I don't care if its one. I hate losing my spot next to a woman. However, I will say this Is a good hang out and relax spot. In addition, it really do get pack at late night.
