My Vancouver with Lunch Lady, Chef Nguyen Thi Thanh

"This is one of the first places that highlighted Vietnamese street food. It is also the jumping off point where we first discussed our Lunch Lady journey in Vancouver, so it was only natural that we made sure to highlight this space during Co Thanh’s visits. The owners Kim and Kon as well as their team embody hospitality and are a constant inspiration. Their food is humble, flavorful and soulful. Shout out to their Damn Good Chicken and Rice." - Michael He

DD Mau Chinatown - Review - Chinatown - Vancouver - The Infatuation

"DD Mau in Chinatown is easy to walk past and not notice, but once you go in, you’ll find yourself in what appears to be an expertly-renovated basement that happens to serve fantastic, reasonably-priced Vietnamese food. It’s right below a club, there’s always hip hop playing, and you can order “Party Starter” shots with oolong tea and Johnnie Walker, so it’s a good place to head to with friends if you’re on your way to a dance floor, or when you want a fun place to eat great food after 11pm (they close at midnight on the weekends). Don’t miss their fish sauce and lime beef carpaccio, fish cake noodle soup (bún chả cá), and chicken wings. If you happen to be in Yaletown instead, head to their other location that sells sandwiches and noodle bowls for lunch (it’s only open from 11am-4pm)." - Shelley Mason

I was excited to try this place because I love Vietnamese food, but to be honest it was just ok. The atmosphere is great; I loved the way the place is decorated. We tried the spicy pho and chicken pho and the taste was meh. The tapioca pudding dessert was very good though. Service was not great either, some of the male staff members seemed annoyed and had a bit of an attitude. 3.5/5.

Came for lunch as a group of 3 on a Tuesday. Not busy (I imagine they're more popular during happy hour and in the evening). I had the Crab & Garlicky Fried Rice ($23). I thought the portion was fair for the higher price point, although at other Viet restaurants I'm used to leaving with rice leftovers, and I didn't here. It had good umami flavour and a slight spice to it. I do wish the minced crab was sweeter, as I didn't feel like it added too much to the dish. However, the fish roe was a nice touch! Loved the atmosphere inside, it felt modern, but intimate and charming with decor that paid homage to Vietnam. Service was very friendly and attentive.

We loved the creative, flavor-packed dishes, the warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the kind, attentive servers at DD Mau Chinatown! We ordered the Damn Good Chicken and the Grilled Meatball & Vermicelli—both were bursting with flavor and generously portioned, with plenty left for later. The staff took time to explain the menu and made us feel right at home. Can’t wait to come back!

My wife and I went out for dinner on Valentine’s Day, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. From the moment you step in, the restaurant’s ambiance sets the stage for an immersive dining experience. The food is not only delicious but also beautifully presented. I particularly enjoyed the broths that accompany some of the dishes—they are rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. To top it all off, if you’re lucky enough to have Nat as your server, your experience will be truly exceptional. Nat ensures everything flows seamlessly from start to finish. Thank you, Nat, for the outstanding service!

Google
Back at DDMAU today, and their new Summer Street Food menu is an absolute hit! ☀️ 🔥 The whole grilled fish is next-level—crispy on the outside, juicy and tender inside. But the best part? The way you eat it: 👉 Wrap it in soft Vietnamese rice paper with fresh lettuce, mint, herbs, shredded carrots, and a chunk of that flavorful fish… then drizzle it with their signature honey glaze sauce. 🤯 Boom—flavor explosion. So fresh, so delicious, SO satisfying. Oh—and their noodles? Still as amazing as ever. Comforting, flavorful, and consistent every time. #VancouverEats #VietnameseFoodLovers #DDMAU #GrilledFishWraps #SummerMenuMustTry #RicePaperRollGoals

Nice cozy atmosphere with a blend of classic French cafe vibes. Very innovative dishes that are sure to please. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive! Great experience highly recommend the chicken wings, short rib bahn mi and fried sticky rice!

Google
We found this place on a USA Today recommendation. We had a few things that were delicious! I’d highly recommend. Our sever and food runner were so incredibly kind and explained all the food. It was overall a wonderful experience! My husband got the crab rice but it wasn’t our favorite. But the sticky rice was soooo good! Really great place!

Google
YUM!!!! I’ve been on a mission to find the best vegan bahn mi! This place is currently #1. Bread was so soft and fluffy but crisp on the outside, vegetables were fresh, lemongrass tofu had a great bite to it but wasn’t too dry either. Flavour was wonderful! My one wish would be to have vegan mayo available, as I had it partly without sauce and partly with sate. Super tasty by itself, and juicy enough that you don’t really miss the mayo. Seriously good. I also saw they won first place in the bahn mi competition in 2021 I think it was?? I understand why! Definitely check it out if you can!

Yelp
Well, we came here just before it got busy, on a week day. So the service was good, the place was pretty empty, and the food hit just right. Deep fried things, get your stomach feeling so good. Plus a nice, cold beer on the side. Plus, slightly cheaper prices ha ha ha. With the cost of living these days, the happy hour time is really the time to go. Anyhow, I enjoyed it and I'll be back. Those wings were great!

Yelp
holy freaking shiza. This restaurant manifested itself from my dreams. 9-11 fri sat happy hour? Vietnamese upscale fusion? Us baddies from LA were so confused why this place wasn't freaking packed. And service was impeccable. Music was perfect. We got sat immediately but I would wait to sit at this place for 1 hr and still think its worth it. You have to get the wings. And the xoi sticky rice. Wings 100/10. Must get. Juiciest fried chicken. Maybe yhe best fried chicken ive ever had. Saigon sunrise 10/10. Amazing. Got me going. Milky Smooth. 7/10. The clarified milk tea and pandan flavors were awesome. Idk how i felt about the flavor combos as a whole though. The drink was a little strong for me. but NOT a bad thing to complain about !!!!!! And for the price?!!! For the happy hour?!!!!! Lit. Xoi Fried Sticky Rice. DELICIOUS. 10/10. Mightve liked some more freshness like more do chua on top. But wow.

Yelp
Got a bun bo hue here and had a few appetizers (green beans and fried sticky rice). The green beans were okay. They weren't particularly flavourful or stand out. The fried sticky rice flavours were really good, but it was too fried for my soft mouth. I prefer regular sticky rice. The bun bo hue was quite good! Missing some thing that are usually included, but I won't fault them for that. The flavours were delicious, noodles were cooked well, and there were plenty of meats. Service was impeccable. Restaurant is quite loud, but to be expected. The area we sat was very nice and spacious.

Yelp
It's a chill spot in chinatown, love how they are open late. I really enjoyed the wings, squid, fried rice, and banana cake! Service is fast here! The soups are good but I wouldn't say it's the best in the city. It's a refreshing spot that likes to experiment and refresh their menu every few months. My only critique is that the durian creme brûlée was too thick. Giving it an over cooked texture versus a light steamed custard. I would definitely come back for everything else.

Yelp
A super fun spot sporting traditional flavours with delicious concepts. Vancouver is no stranger to Vietnamese food and you can easily find a cozy spot/restaurant just about anywhere. I took my parents here for lunch to try this unique spot. I love that they have a seasonal fresh sheet! Great for local and seasonal specials that you may never had before. They have a QR code on the table, but you can also ask for physical menus. The Day Menu is very straight forward with great staples, like pho, rice dishes, sandwiches and share foods. They have an interesting drink menu if that your jam. What we ordered: DD Mau Wings $17 Special Short Rib Beef Dip $18.5 Ha Noi Style Grilled Meatballs & Vermicelli $23 Dam Good Chicken & Rice $19.5 DD Mau Vietnamese Coffee $7.5 Ube Coconut Cloud Vietnamese Coffee $10 Deep-fried chicken wings to share. Can't go wrong with a crispy batter and then coated with a sweet fish sauce glaze. This is a great appetizer to make prepare your stomach for more food. Banh mi sandwiches to me seem to be trending, so when we tried the Short Rib Beef Dip was so good! A small bowl of pho broth to dip you meaty sandwich screamed comfort. My favourite dish was the Ha Noi Style Grilled Meatball & Vermicelli. The meatball was soaked in a sweet & sour, fish sauce "broth" with picked veggies and cilantro. On the side was the vermicelli and some leafy greens. Almost like a deconstructed version of other vermicelli rice noodle dishes. 10/10 would order again. DD Mau has two locations; Chinatown and Yaletown. If you want to try some elevated Vietnamese food go check them out!

Yelp
I really loved the inside of the restaurant--the ambiance and service were great. While the food isn't the most authentic, it's still decent. My favorite dishes were the fried sticky rice and the damn good chicken and rice; both had good flavor. I took a bite of the chicken & rice with shallots and onions, followed by a spoonful of soup--it was a perfect combination. The chicken pho was also very comforting and hearty. Although the food was good, but there are a few things that can be worked on. I felt like the chicken wings weren't the freshest, though the flavor was still good. The beef carpaccio slices were a bit too thick, making the beef chewy. The hu tieu didn't have much flavor; it felt like I was just eating rice noodles with some toppings. Overall, I think DD Mau has some great ideas. While some dishes might not be super authentic, they still offer a solid dining experience.

Yelp
Awesome hidden gem in old Chinatown. The menu has much to choose from, either soups, snacks, or mains. The food was all executed well and the service was equally awesome. The vibe for lunch is pretty low key and busy. In the evenings they have live music and definitely a more lively, hip vibe. A great restaurant to add to your list when visiting Chinatown!

Yelp
I had been meaning to come here for years, and I finally made it on a Wednesday night (for my friend who was doing a live DJ set!). What a cool spot in the heart of Chinatown. I think the thing that stands out to me the most was the service. Our server was absolutely hilarious and even showed us a well-timed meme at one point. We were laughing so hard I'm pretty sure we all had tears in our eyes. The food was excellent as well. Ever since Hanoi Old Quarter on Victoria closed, I've been looking for another spot to get my Hanoi style meatballs and vermicelli at. This was the spot! They've also got a few solid vegetarian options as well. Great vibes, great food, great drinks, personalized service--all makes for the winningest of combos!

Yelp
This is my second time eating here! The food here is delicious, southern Vietnamese taste, their crispy rice is my favourite, the carpaccio is delicious. The durian crème brûlée is only here for a limited time definitely a must try! The fermented fish soup is a bit sweet not fish saucey enough but overall clean soup. Their drinks are boozie! Love it! Service is friendly and quick, I would come back

Yelp
Hip and tasty Vietnamese eatery in Chinatown The damn good chicken and rice is in fact damn good. Make sure to drizzle the broth liberally on your rice. The Hanoi style meatballs and vermicelli (bun cha Hà Nội) is also delicious, with the perfect combination of umami and fragrance from the fresh herbs. Another highlight is the fried sticky rice, which is shockingly tasty with big flavours and textures. That being said, everything I've eaten here has been really good. Drinks are good, although less memorable. Service is good, and ambiance is hip. Cool spot for a date/evening hang out. Will be back for my go to Vietnamese food/hang out spot in the area!

Yelp
Ambiance and service were great. The place was clean and tidy. There were seats reading available on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the chicken wings of course. They were great but I felt they were a bit sweeter than I like but still amazingly crispy and sticky. The chicken pho had a really nice broth full of flavour and the noodles were just al dente. The only thing is I found the chicken to be dry. We also ordered the crab and pork pockets. I didn't taste any crab but they tasted like real Vietnamese spring rolls but square shaped. My husband had the chicken banh mi. Overall, comparable to the other place in Chinatown that serves similar food but no wait and a much nicer atmosphere.

Yelp
Literally love EVERYTHING HERE - NO JOKE. Drinks are 10/10. Super strong and super delicious. I've been here 3 times, so here's a summary of everything I've ordered overall: DD Mau Wings ($14): super flavourful deep fried chicken wings. House fish sauce glaze is sooo delicious. Viet Carpaccio ($16): thin sliced beef, yummy vinaigrette. I'd recommend adding the sesame rice cracker for +$3 extra - great texture and adds some substance to the beef which is amazing. super crispy too. Flavour explosion overall. **Grilled Pork Collar ($15): omg if you only want to order one food item, this is it!! So smoky?! I don't even know how it gets that flavour...just amazing. Nice and fatty pieces of meat, great to share too. DRINKS: Happy hour 3-5:30pm everyday and 9pm-closing on Fri/Sat (get $1 off their street food during HH!) **Tra Da (2oz) $15 - Jasmine tea infused gin + lemon juice. 10/10 recommend, I've gotten this soo many times. So unique, and the jasmine tea flavour is AMAZING. JUST GET IT. The Bar Code ($25): Hennessy VSOP, oolong tea, lemon/orange bitters. My friend ordered this, it's quite strong and was apparently pretty decent. Bar Snax (2.5 oz shots): rum, PEANUT BUTTER, condensed milk. Super unique, just wow. Too easy to drink if you know what I mean. 2/$10 or 4/$18 (you have to order all the same shots though, no mixing & matching)

Yelp
Second time at DD Mau. Ambience was nice and cozy, and service was nice and hospitable. I enjoyed the appetizers more than the mains. The seasonal pomelo salad was fresh - mix of sweet, sour and savoury. The shrimp toast was also very tasty - the crispness was lovely and a mix of sweet and savoury flavours. For my main I got the lemongrass vermicelli, but it was lacking flavour overall.

Daniel L.

Yelp
Giving this place a second chance was a mistake. Asides from the vibe and service, the food is below average. In a city with a vibrant and competitive Vietnamese cuisine scene, it is surprising that this restaurant continues to operate. Both the regular pho and bun Bo hue lacks depth in flavour, straight salty and spicy, nothing else. The portion is also small. (So small that after dinner I had to get a burger next door). The "damn good chicken and rice" is a joke, nothing good about it. Should rename it to damn bland chicken and rice. While I do not anticipate strict authenticity from a fusion restaurant, the quality of food served here does not meet even basic standards.

Yelp
Came midweek for dinner, definitely a nice modern take on your traditional Vietnamese cuisine. I had the chicken pho, sate beef bahn mi, pork spring rolls, fried sticky rice, and chicken wings. The broth of the pho tasted very clean and not heavy with msg. They have pork and vegetable spring rolls option, an order comes with two spring rolls. The spring rolls are very good, crispy, fresh, and not too oily. The fried sticky rice is like a crispy rice variation, really enjoyed this take on sticky rice. The chicken wings were fried well, but I wasn't a fan of the fish sauce glaze. This is a personal opinion, but someone else in my party enjoyed it. Really enjoyed the bahnmi, I don't often have beef with my bahn mi but thought I'd give it a try, everyone that tried this enjoyed it! Bread was toasted well and didn't scrape the roof of my mouth which is always a win with bahn mi. Food came quick after we ordered. Servers checked on us a couple of times after our food came. Prices were decent. Definitely worth trying if you're around.

Yelp
This is a hidden Vietnamese restaurant located next to Fortune Sound Club, which can be easily overlooked when walking by. Funny enough I didn't notice this place and walked right pass before my partner called me back. The restaurant is dim but has great vibes. There is an open bar section and silver/metal tables with pops of colours, textile accents, and wall pictures bringing a Vietnamese touch. We ordered their famous chicken wings and beef carpaccio to share, which we didn't regret. The chicken wings were crunchy on the outside and juicy inside. The fish sauce smelled quite potent at first, but the taste wasn't overbearing though the wings were a touch salty. The beef carpaccio was so tender and flavourful though a couple of our friends still preferred the one from Phnom Penh. I tried their lychee jasmine green tea, which wasn't too sweet or syrupy. It tasted a bit diluted but the tea flavour really came through. I wished they added some real lychee to give the drink a fresher note. For our mains, we ordered their Damn Good Chicken & Rice and a Sate Beef Banh Mi. The Sate Beef Banh Mi was nothing special. The bun was crispy and the vegetables were fresh and crunchy. The beef was a touch salty. Overall, it was good but not mind blowing. The chicken rice dish reminded us of Hainanese Chicken Rice. It had a strong onion taste and the rice was quite wet. Flavour was good, but nothing stood out. The soup that came with the rice on the other hand was addictive. It was a simple chicken broth with green onions, but it was a salty goodness that my partner and I fought over. Service started off great but was less attentive as the night went on though the restaurant did get busier later in the night. There were times we couldn't find our server or had to ask for takeout boxes twice. BUT it was such a nice gesture and we really appreciated it when they gave us complimentary shots since we were celebrating a birthday. Overall, we really enjoyed the appetizers and the ambience of the restaurant. It is a place where you can go for drinks after work or on weekends while snacking on appies and catching up with friends for a night out. Dishes are around $20, but drinks are pricey. Some special cocktails are around $15 and a pitcher of beer is $27, which is quite steep. No no

Yelp
Average food but they really pissed me off with the 1.50 charge for chili oil and 3.00 for hot tea. Most pho places don't do that. At least they say upfront they charge for this.
google avatar

Vivian D.

Yelp
The food choices were exceptional and varied, with something on the menu for everyone including very authentic Vietnamese cuisine. In addition the venue decor and ambiance were fabulous and very pleasant but the best part was the superb customer service we received from Leo! he explained the menu thoroughly to us, made some great recommendations, was incredible attentive throughout our meal and was overall an amazing host. My first time there and certianly not my last. I had a great time at this restaurat and cannot recommend it enough!! truly outstanding! i look forward to going back! Thx DD Mau!

Yelp
So much character in this smaller establishment! We were looking for a Vietnamese restaurant within walking distance since my little guy loves pho. This restaurant came up when I searched with good reviews so we walked over. Server was friendly and attentive. They were able to offer a kids sized pho (not on the menu) which was excellent since the normal bowl of pho on the menu would've been too large for him. Hubs and I sampled four of the seasonal menu items and for the most part they were great. Eggplant was so well balanced and delicious! Duck rice rolls were decent. Hubs loved the braised pork belly as the flavours were delicate and clean. Coconut panna cotta for desert was just okay - I thought the coconut flavour was lacking but texturally it was lovely. For drinks hubs ordered the Mezcal Sour and I had the Thai Iced Tea Latte. Can never go wrong with a Thai Iced Tea.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for dinner and we decided to get three dishes to share - the Damn Good Chicken Rice, the fried crab pockets, and the sweet pandan rice cake. I thought that the chicken rise and crab pockets both had pretty good flavour but wasn't anything too special. I was a huge fan of the sweet pandan rice cake. It wasn't too sweet and the condensed milk added just the little *chef's kiss*. Would recommend if ever in the Chinatown area.

Yelp
Best chicken wings EVAAAAAAA!!!! I'm not a huge fan of chicken but my boyfriend's friend took us here and claimed that they're known for their dishes and I was blown away. If you're into the crispy skin less meat type of chicken wings, this is for you. They also have a very strong, fragrant fish sauce taste/smell if that's something you're into. The fish sauce component was definitely the ingredient that sent me over the top with these wings. Their other dishes are really delicious as well. They feature a hip/trendy ambience with viet cuisine. I had their spicy beef noodle soup which was very strong and spicy to me but really hit the spot on a cold winter day. The broth for the chicken rice also paired amazingly with the rice and serves as a comfort food. The restaurant is located in a basement in Chinatown, and you'll need to keep your eyes out to find the sign (very discreet). Everything is renovated very nicely though and they have a DJ playing lofi and other types of musics on certain days. Super hip & trendy! Highly recommend to hit up this place.

Yelp
We came in from the US for a few days before getting on the cruise ship! First stop for food. What a great restaurant! Food was wonderful & service was amazing!

Yelp
We usually goto a couple favourite spots along Victoria as it's now closer for us, but my bf was craving their chicken vermicelli bowl so we made a little Chinatown food tour for ourselves (also stopped at New Town, Umaluma, Mello!). We shared the chicken wings which were my favourite dish at lunch. Perfectly crispy. Not too oily and very flavourful. 6 pieces to an order. The skin was light and crunchy. My bf said the chicken bowl was good but not as good as he remembers. I had the steamed rice rolls topped with wood ear and ground pork. Anytime I see this item on the menu, I've been ordering it to try to find the best one. Theirs was ok. It was on the thick side but I enjoyed that they had lots of herbs and fried onions on top. Still the best is at Old Hanoi! Definitely would come back. With covid, they've taken to space out tables and digital menus you grab with a QR code on the wall.
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
DD Mau was a surprise find after some of the other places I wanted to try were either closed or didn't take cash. Their pho is excellent! Flagrantly herbal and full of delicious things. The perfect antidote to a rainy Vancouver day. The rest of the menu and the cocktails look great too.

Yelp
Got the vegan pho. It was decent but only a couple veggie pieces in it and the service was awful. Cute little place though.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
I saw that they have vegan options, so I decided to order take-out one evening for dinner. They offer 15% off if you order online (their online order wasn't working for me, so they honoured the discount for my phone order -- very nice of them). The food was ready 15 mins later. They're located in a skethcy area, and so when you arrive, they have you ring a doorbell, and they bring out your food to you. I ordered the vegan avocado salad rolls ($8 plus tax, before discount) and the vegan pho ($13 plus tax before discount). The salad rolls were very fresh, with a good amount of avocado, nice crunchy veggies, fresh romaine lettuce (rather than the usual crappy iceberg you get at some places), and a rich, creamy peanut sauce. Very nice. 4.5/5 The vegan pho was similarly satisfying. Generous portion of fresh rice noodles with good consistency, tofu, and mixed veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrot and shiitake mushroom). The broth has a nice mushroomy depth to it -- not too salty, yet somehow has enough depth to make it interesting. They didn't serve any hot sauce / hoisin with it -- I guess you have to ask for that. But you get the usual pho garnishes (basil, bean sprouts, lime and jalapeno). Good pho. 4/5 Overall, reasonably priced, good portions, very fresh, and tasty food. Not sure it stands out among the countless Vietnamese places in town where you can get vegan pho, but it's a really solid place. Recommended if you're nearby.

Yelp
The place is quite tucked in and the ambiance is quite nice. The food was average but the servers were attentive. - The chicken wings had a thicker batter on them and quite crunchy. - The salad rolls with pork was juicy and the peanut sauce really made the dish. - The chicken vermicelli bowl was good and I feel like I could have gotten it anywhere else. - The crispy roasted pork sandwich was good and filling but wished there was more pickles. Overall this place was cute and had good food. It wasn't bad but nothing was memorable

Yelp
Coming back from Nanaimo, we wanted something a bit lighter and pho seemed like the perfect choice! We ordered quite a few of their items for take out starting with of course, the beef pho which had plenty of noodles, a sweet and clear broth and a good assortment of beef. In addition, I had always wanted to try their banh mi and honestly, it wasnt anything special as the bread was a bit soft but they included a lot of lemongrass chicken in the filling. The crab fried rice was simple and not too oily while the crab pockets were a delightful surprise being stuffed to the brim and crisp even as take out. The chicken wings were also stellar being well fried, not overly sauced and delicious! Finally, the star of the night was without a doubt, the chicken rice which was similar to Hainanese chicken but had shredded chicken and onions on top of some of the most flavourful rice i've tried! An absolutely delightful dish, I would not hesitate to order this many times over again. Overall, the food here is yummy and their prices are reasonable as well! They are offering a discount on take out orders submitted online. The only downside is the location as it is located in the middle of Chinatown which can feel a bit sketchy at certain times of the day.

Yelp
What a gem! Not only does this place have delicious food and to die for craft cocktails but their service is top notch! Our server's name was Leanne and she was so helpful navigating different food allergy requests, odd end inquiries and just providing an excellent experience for my party. I'm gluten free and they had tons of questions and she navigated flawlessly and didn't make me feel like a burden. Also, I believe the owner Nat was the kindest human ever and I would come back weekly for her alone! This review is too long now but I could go on forever about our great experience. 10/10 all day!

Yelp
In my humble opinion, the best Vietnamese in Vancouver. The beef carpaccio, chicken and rice, all the banh mi sandwiches (especially the duck) are flawless.... Better than the versions I had in Hanoi.

Yelp
Was craving Pho so my friend and I decided to stop by DD Mau. It was extremely clean inside and the ambience was so chill and homey. We both decided to get the beef pho and I got an iced coffee along with it. The beef pho was so delicious, there was a good variety of meat and the pho noodles were so fresh and had a delicious chewy texture with a bite. The broth was absolutely amazing and so clear. The Vietnamese iced coffee was perfectly made, but so so strong, it made me quite jittery. I definitely will come back to DD Mau and highly reccomend their happy hour menu!

Yelp
Had a craving for Vietnamese food one night and decided to order from DD Mau via Uber Eats. It took me so long to choose what I wanted because let's face it, this girl wants it all (lol). In the end, I ordered the Trifecta rice plate (pork, chicken, egg... bingo!) and got myself a nice, cold Vietnamese iced coffee too. The order came quickly and was packed well. I was very happy to open my box and saw that my egg yolk was in tact (it matters to me ) and looking gorgeous. The Trifecta was great and satisfied all of my cravings. I must add too that the pickled veg that came with it was also delicious! To top it off, I thoroughly enjoyed my coffee. It was cold and strong, just the way I like it. If you're looking for that caffeine kick, their iced coffee is sure to deliver! Currently giving them a 4 star ranking as I would love to revisit to check the vibe in-store once dine in is open again. I've heard great things and can't wait to experience it for myself.

Yelp
My party of 5 enjoyed a family-style meal of "All the hits". The portions are generous, each dish flavorful and filling! No one left hungry :) I especially loved the chicken wings and papaya salad. Before getting seated, the staff is diligent with checking for vaccination cards and wearing masks. We felt very safe eating inside and were lucky enough to get seated at a private circular table that was tucked into its own little room!

Yelp
I haven't had the pleasure of dining in yet but I just wanted to send a shout out to awesome take out service from DDMau. All of the dishes that I got were packaged nicely and they offer some really good fresh and healthy vegetarian meals. I got the Avocado salad rolls which were super fresh and came with an amazing peanut dipping sauce. I could seriously eat a whole jar of that stuff in one sitting. My favorite are the chicken wings, I unfortunately forgot to snap a photo but they are so delicious. Crispy, tangy and juicy. I thought 11$ was a fantastic price for the portion. I also like to order their Bahn mi. I hope to someday dine in but until then I'll definitely be ordering take out!

Yelp
I'm a regular customer here. But it seems like the quality and service has gone down since the post covid reopening. The vegan pho was tasteless. It needed more spice and the base was too watery. The banhmi are ok. Prices have gone up, and I get it. However, who would pay $12 for a salad roll if you can get that else where in other downtown Pho places that only cost 1/4 of the price.

Yelp
Best Vietnamese I've had outside of Vietnam. Though I do with they had my fave, bahn xeo. But beggars can't be choosers. The egg coffee was delicious, and basically dessert in a cup. Sweeter than I remember it being in Hanoi, but super yummy. I got the "Obama Noodles" and the flavor was amazing!! I did have to add more fish sauce, but I recognize that a flavor most westerners aren't used to, and therefore probably best from a business perspective to not be too heavy handed with it for most. Also looked like they have some really good happy hour food and drink combos

Yelp
Came here for happy hour a while back and I remembered leaving the restaurant satisfied. Great service and pleasant ambience. And to top it off, good food shared among good company. How could I not be satisfied? As for food, I recommend trying their wings (DD Mau Wings). I wouldn't compare it to Phnom Penh level, but it was delicious enough on its own level. Their bánh mì were good too. The baguette was crunchy, but not too crunchy. The sauce was good. I can't say much about the baguette to meat ratio since I had the ends (where there's more baguette than there is of meat). Therefore I won't know until I go there again for their bánh mìs. Now, the most interesting item I've tried that evening was probably the Fried Sticky Rice. It's the first time trying sticky rice fried so I wasn't sure what to expect. What I can say about it after trying it is that it's sweet, thin, and crispy.

Yelp
This place is great. We went here for a day trip from Seattle. The menu is small and concise-- nothing too extraneous. It's very regional fare, hopping from neighboring region to region. I love that it went from glutinous Banh Bot Loc with pork and shrimp to grilled pork cheeks with pineapple anchovy sauce to super regional Bún Cha Hà Noi (aka Obama noodles). The banh bot loc was a wonderful small bite of banana-leaf wrapped Vietnamese tamale. Small, not-too chewy with a perfectly light dipping sauce. Pork cheeks were fine... Not amazing, but a nice chew to them. I loved the crisped edges, but not crazy about the texture. ... But dem Obama noodles (aka Bún Cha Hà Noi), that sh*t is da sh*t !!!! Please don't skip out on this. Yes, obviously, the whole menu has interesting delicious things on it... But why snooze on the Bùn Cha Hà Noi? It don't look too pretty. It's ain't too exciting on paper. However, what it lacks in sexiness, it more than makes up for in flavor. Da flavor is CRAZY on point! The noodles are on-point, the herbage is on-point, the mix of pork sausage and the shavings of pork is on-point, and the vinegar-y broth is on-point. My tip to you: Order the "Obama Noodles." Then try anything else to your heart's desires. *chef's kiss*

Yelp
Decided to give this place a try since I work nearby and got bored of my typical locations. This place is very relaxing, it's dimly lit, air con isn't blasting, it's spacious and isn't packed with customers because it's such a large venue. I was thinking this would be a nice place to hold a private gathering with enough space to mingle and dance, especially since the bar is large and adjacent the large space. Food wise is decent. Tried a pho and a sub, items that I usually order anywhere else. Pho wasn't loaded with MSG so that's much desirable. The lemongrass chicken sub was also good. Neither items were unique, but were fresh and well prepared. Price wise- it's a bit higher than everywhere else I've been. The sub here is 12 but at BahnMi Saigon it's only around 7. Service is good but I think the kitchen is a bit overwhelmed by the influx of customers just as restrictions eased. I'll return to try other items.

Yelp
Definitely will return to this cute place with a private cozy space that felt like I was in a private home. We had banmi that was right on point of flavor with excellent crunch and soft baguette. The tiramisu latte was very rich and tasted like liquid tiramisu. Yummy. The Thai tea was what I would expect a good Thai tea to taste for me. Quick and friendly service on a rainy weekend day.

Yelp
Trying this place out for lunch after reading Yelp comments. Very pleasantly surprised! Love the decor, nice, modern yet with a feeling of Vietnam. Perfect balance on that! I was quickly seated and there are great choices on the menu I order the pork belly combo. Taste great! Although I would have liked the pork belly to be a bit more tender, it was on the dryer side. But regardless I still loved the taste. Iced chai Tea latte, very good! I'll definitely come back and try other things on the menu. Monthly late night happy hour events, great place :D

Yelp
I finally got here, having heard about it from other lovers of Vietnamese food. I heard they had street style and was excited to get it as I spent a few weeks in Vietnam last year & loved the food. I walked in on a Sat. around 9pm it was packed but we managed to grab seats at the bar. It was my partner & I six year anniversary & we couldn't make resos as we didn't know what time he would finish work. Jeremy was our bartender and took great care of us. I went straight for the Betel leaf wrapped meatballs with lettuce & herbs we stacked with noodles (eat with your hands), pork skewers, shrimp skewers, and those dipping sauces! Anchovy pineapple sauce! They also have a fresh sheet, wicked cocktail menu, local beer choices or imports including Tiger & Saigon. I had a Saigon Sunrise: tequila, tamarind, ginger & lime juice - tasty tasty. We also did a shot for "dessert" called Bar Snacks: peanut butter & rum - totally unexpected! This is a pretty hip joint, music was on point - great playlist, next to Fortune Sound Club in Chinatown. Food was flavorful, staff friendly, we will be back!

Yelp
My party of four ventured in this unassuming restaurant the other night after having bad luck at other lounges in the area (i.e., long wait times, one place not offering cocktails - or even coffee, etc). We were pleasantly surprised that this place was not busy, the interior was warm, and the hostess and server were welcoming. We were seated at the back, at a table by the bar. I was glad to see that the bar was well-stocked and they had a great-looking cocktail menu in addition to a beer and wine menu. Two folks in our party had beers, one had an anise cocktail and I had a guava-infused cocktail. My drink was delicious: not too sweet, not too tart, just great. We all enjoyed our beverages a lot and, looking at the food menu, and reading the other reviews of this place, I think we'll be returning here for dinner. We noted how we liked the music that they were playing, too, and the volume was perfect (not blasting, as it is in other places, but loud enough to be heard and enjoyed). As we were leaving, a DJ started playing music at a turntable set-up. Very cool! Definitely an unassuming but super cool place here, worthy of a return visit.

Yelp
If I could give this restaurant more stars I would. Visiting from Washington state and wanted Vietnamese food. The service was excellent and the wait staff was knowledgeable about gluten free items. Ambiance was eclectic and pleasing. I would to return for more when we're in the area.

Yelp
Hipster meets Vietnamese cuisine in Chinatown. You really have to keep your eyes open for this place... there's a small window but no prominent signs displaying the restaurant. The inside is like a very narrow hallway... but decorated with chique asian decor. Very very tasteful. It was a Thursday night and I was dining solo and opted for the bar. Which was very well finished with stainless steel. Very very nice. I actually like this better. Both for the restaurant owner as well as the customer-- easy to clean. I ordered a couple dishes. First up is the Vietnamese Carpaccio, which is thinly sliced raw beef garnished with fried garlic onions and chives all while soaked in a fish sauce marinade. This dish... is amazing. The meat reminds me of raw pho meat but in this case it melted in your mouth instead of in your bowl. Spectacular. Everything is this dish meshed really well together. Second up is the Vietnamese Rice Roll, the picture is attached to this review. This is essentially a lazy mans Bahn Xeo rolled up for you. Still very delicious. Lastly I got the Pho Dac Beit. The soup was very aromatic and rich, the noodles were medium/soft (I don't like soggy noodles) and everything in this soup complimented each other so well. Top notch. I stayed downtown around Granville and this spot is about a 10 minute cab ride, straight shot into Chinatown. Very very reasonable pricing, $25 for the entire meal I listed above... I will definitely be back. 5/5 stars.

Yelp
I would come in for drinks and a small bite, I wouldn't try to come in for a feast. We have tons of competition for chicken wings, pho and butter beef/ beef carpaccio. The vibe is cool and the drinks are fabulous. Much improvement for the food as none were memorable.

Yelp
Was in the Chinatown area when I decided on this small spot. I was surprised to see it quite empty at 1pm, buy it meant I was seated and served relatively quickly. One awkward note about the place is that is was drastically colder than the warm summer day and the tables were metal. I was not able to put my hands on the table without shivering. They ended up fixing the AC halfway through my stay, but it was uncomfortable start nonetheless. It also took quite a while to receive my bill. Seemed like they didn't have a full staff for the lunch hour I was at. I ordered the Damn Good Chicken & Rice ($15), because it was listed as a northern Hoi An "staple". I immediately noticed how savory the dish was. I am usually a bit dissapponted when I get asian-american dishes that are too sweet, but this didn't baffle around with sugar. The taste was straight and to the point. The chicken slivers, fried onions, ginger, buk choy greens, and rice all went together great. My two complaints were that the rice was a bit bland, as I would have added a bit more soy or salt when cooking. The dish also came out a bit lukewarm which was a bit dissapointngly. This place has great stuff on the menu, but a few mishaps prevent me from giving it a better rating. Lukewarm dish and quite poor service decided it for me. I was sitting at the table when I saw the only server cleaning a table instead letting me head out. I'd consider come back here though if I needed a reliable place in Chinatown to bring someone that was pretty modern.

Yelp
The restaurant is really nice, has a homey vibe to it. The location is convenient, about 10-15 minute walk from Main St - Science World station. The staff are kind. The food is really good, a bit sifficult to describe. Tastes amazing, more modern but stays really close to traditional Vietnamese cuisine. I had the carpaccio and trifecta (grilled pork, chicken, and egg on rice). My friends ordered the braised pork and bun cha, all of them were delicious as well. Would go here again! Next time I'll try the Viet subs, can't wait!

Yelp
First time here. I think we were lucky to get in without a reservation on a Friday night. Nice place, feels relaxed and the service was good. I had the turmeric fish with vermicelli and my husband had the fried prawn toast. The fish was good, nicely seasoned and a generous portion. We enjoyed the prawn toast too, but I can't imagine it's very healthy. 1 star off for no desserts, only Vietnamese coffee and smoothies. I'll definitely come back and I liked that the tables weren't stuffed together.
