"It’s 5pm, you’re having dinner a bit later, and you need a snack to hold you over. Go to De Hot Pot. It’s a Trinidadian spot serving doubles (flatbreads stuffed with chickpeas) that are mildly sweet, a little spicy, and less than $2 each. If you want something bigger, go for a roti stuffed with oxtail, goat, or some other kind of meat or vegetable. This place is perfect for a quick lunch or a takeout dinner you can eat on your couch - just keep in mind that it’s cash-only." - bryan kim, matt tervooren
"Don’t judge, but I only discovered De Hot Pot after local artist Laura Thorne’s illustration of the Little Caribbean storefront became a best-seller at our mobile gallery and shop the caribBEING House, an upcycled shipping container used as a mobile art + cultural + market space that hosts exhibitions and pop-up shops featuring Caribbean/LatinX artisans from NYC and back home. Naturally, I passed this neighborhood favorite by foot and dollar van for many years, but only recently tasted their doubles and swooned (thank you Marlon Jude, my local performance coach who hosts weekly walk/runs in Prospect Park). As a daughter of Trinis who loves plenty peppa, I can’t recommend this place enough. I heard their roti is also out of this world, but have yet to try. As they say in Jamaica, soon come." - shelley worrell 31
"At the Brooklyn Trinidadian shop De Hot Pot, doubles now cost $2 apiece, up from $1.50, illustrating how sandwich prices are creeping higher due to supply chain issues and rising costs." - Erika Adams
"I think the doubles and wrapped roti from De Hot Pot are among the few foods that hold up after a short walk—one of Prospect Lefferts Gardens’s best sources for Trinidadian fare, its roti are stuffed with stewed chickpeas, potatoes, and a choice of chicken, goat, beef, or shrimp (they’ll fill you up and may leave your picnic blanket stained)." - Eater Staff
"At this takeout counter near Prospect Park East I ordered the shrimp roti ($12), a neatly folded roti also available stuffed with channa and potatoes; it’s the neighborhood’s go-to for good roti — ask for an extra side of hot sauce (50 cents) and bring cash only." - Eater Staff
