"NOLA has a new mini-chain starting today, when Deanie’s Sea Food Kitchen opens its doors for business at 2200 Magazine Street in the Garden District, reports Ian McNulty at The Advocate. This is the third location for Deanie’s, the legendary seafood restaurant that got its start in Bucktown over five decades ago. Deanie’s is well-known and loved for its seafood offerings, from crawfish Étouffée and crabmeat au gratin to po-boys and fried appetizers. The menu at the new Garden District restaurant is pretty similar, but with the addition of a raw oyster bar and a chargrilled oyster station." - Alison Baitz

This place came highly recommended by locals, but sadly I was unimpressed. The catfish is NOT farm raised so it tasted dirty. They were out of corn for the crawfish boil and they also were out of crab claws... 😐 We should have left at this point. We ordered the Caesar salad (which was nothing special), shrimp etouffee (that had good flavor), kids catfish basket (sent back after tasting it and realizing it was not farm raised) got chicken fingers instead. Crab trio, but again they didn't have crab claws so they substituted that with crab dressing which tasted just like the crab balls and then there was Crab au gratin (which tasted like a cheese wiz dip with some crab in it. Just bad) .. So essentially, we had two of the same thing on the plate, the cheese dip and fries (which were lame!) No seasoning or ANYTHING! But I made do by dipping the fries in the cheese crab dip au gratin. My personal opinion, don't waste your time or your money. This was $100 I'll never get back. Our server was awesome though! Very attentive and on it!

Cool atmosphere! Boiled potatoes were tasty! Fried catfish was great! BUT our server was even better!! Bo was phenomenal!!! He was super friendly and extremely attentive! Brought refills of sweet tea before I even asked. He made our overall dining experience even better! Thank you, Bo for being exceptional!! 😊❤️

Google
Don’t skip Deanies!! Possibly my favorite restaurant from my week stay in New Orleans. This place is outstanding & the servers are awesome. Everything was delicious- charbroiled oysters, 1/2 seafood platter, & the coconut bread pudding. I got the bread pudding to go since we were there close to closing time, and it didn’t look like much visually, but I was very impressed with the flavor. It was amazing just like the rest of the meal! I’d love to come back here on my next visit! 10/10 superb restaurant

Google
Great service and atmosphere! Sir. Charles looked out for us and made sure we got the best service!

Google
We asked three friends familiar with the area to recommend places to eat, and this spot was on each list! Trust me when I say it didn't disappoint. Our server, Cristin was a delight and the food was a hit with each of us. We will visit again when we return to New Orleans.

Google
We went to the Deanie's n the Garden District. OMG!!! The food was so fantastic!!! Pat, the general manager made sure the place was run perfectly and all the customers got their food in a timely manner. I can't wait to go back!

Google
Great spot, the waitress was so sweet and helped us as we need we our tab to be separate for work reasons. The Po Boy was no joke and was great.

Google
Went to this location, and as a black person, I didn't feel welcomed at this location only. The food costs were also different from the others. The gumbo had no taste, and the crabballs didn't have much crab, just plenty of dressing. And they put an automatic gratuity on a single person check. Automatic gratuity is for parties of 5 or more. I would not recommend it, especially if you're by yourself.

Molli ..

Yelp
Picked this place randomly and was more than pleasantly surprised. The gumbo, cheesy crab dip, bbq shrimp pasta, rice and beans and cornbread was all so delicious and perfectly seasoned. Service was impeccable. Will be going back.

Yelp
The restaurant had a nice atmosphere. It was a mix of old school diner with subway tile, art deco with metal works, and warm woods/paints. I wish the food was as nice as the interior. We ordered the seafood platter and was told it's either fried or oven baked. The waiter recommended fried and so we ordered. I've never been so grossed out by the amount of fried food in my life. The price doesn't support the bar food we received. Literal bar food for $84. The "garden of vegetables" in the Bloody Mary was 1 pickled green bean and 1 olive. The server was a nice kid and we did have good service. I'm just really disappointed in what was a promising lunch.

Kseniya K.

Yelp
Huge space can accommodate crowds and large parties. Casino downstairs--how original. Staff are efficient. Sometimes, too efficient: I felt rushed by constant hovering during an empty Monday lunch hour. Could not relax much. Cheap lunch specials attract crowds. The $16 three jumbo stuffed shrimp with fries were underwhelming. Skip. $19 crawfish duo was better: a cup of crawfish etouffe [delicious--recommend!] and crawfish [either fried or broiled--get it broiled, so it's a healthier alternative--it is prepared in garlic butter. Comes with the saddest, limpest, blandest fries on the planet. Substitute for sweet potato fries. The highlight of our meal was the soup trio $14: would do this again for my main meal. We tried the seafood gumbo, crawfish etouffee, and lobster bisque. All were incredible--highly recommended, and would return just for this.

Warlene D.

Yelp
I had a seafood platter and stuff shrimp. The seafood wasn't fried good at all and it had to have been fried in old grease because it was dark brown The stuff shrimp smelled sour I would stick with the Buck-town location I was truly disappointed

Yelp
Welcome the Deanie's!! We were seated and our waitress served us a bowl of red potatoes(seasoned and boiled with Old Bay. Charbroiled Oysters and Seafood Platteron my final day in New Orleans I dine at Deanie's on Magazine St. we ordered a dozen Chargrilled Oysters but received Charbroiled Oysters so I still didn't get that charcoal flavor but they were huge and delicious. Since there wet 4 of us dining went decided to get the Giant Seafood Platter. Soft shell Crab, shrimp, Oysters, Catfish, Crawfish Balls and fries was included in the Giant Seafood Platter. It was served freshly fried and overflowing on a bed of fries in the platter. Most of the time you order a platter you get more fries than seafood, but not at Deanie's. Food had a hint of spice but not overwhelming the seafood. We tried but couldn't finish the platter!!

Mark C.

Yelp
The food was great. The service was wonderful. We went here for lunch on a Friday and the ambiance was good. Will definitely come back again.

Gloria M.

Yelp
Ummm... how does Deanie's have an average of only 3 stars?! Did I just go on a day where they had their stuff together?? Our server was Lou and she was so passionate about the story behind Deanie's and the food they serve. She was a real highlight to our whole NOLA trip! We had four in our party- two got the ginormous oyster po-boys and couldn't even finish them- definitely a ton of food for the price. The only bad thing about this place is that the menu on the wall (which is painted) is not always accurate. For example, they have a Mac n Cheese on the wall but not the actual menu.

Chanda R.

Yelp
For a taste of New Orleans Deanies is a must try!! I love oysters both raw and cooked and the charbroiled oysters were satisfying to my taste buds! The menu has a fisherman's platter and a half fisherman's platter. The half fisherman's platter is more than enough for two They also have a full bar snd I enjoyed the French 75 cocktail. There's an option use either gin or a cognac and the cognac version was very yummy! Please be sure to come here they have several locations in Nola!

MM M.

Yelp
I'm shocked that this place isn't glowing with the best reviews for its charming service and delicious seafood. Deanie's is a a star in this historic neighborhood amongst an array of unique shops on Magazine street. I think my favorite style of potatoes now is their red ones boiled in seafood broth, melting in your mouth! Order extra bread with the heavenly crab cheese dip and order wine by the bottle. I thoroughly enjoyed the Cajun honey mustard dressing with the seafood salad. I'll return home, sprinkling that creole magic into everything now

Theresa K.

Yelp
My to go order came from the location on Magazine. The to go order are done by the bar. Everyone greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. The bartender and I hate I don't remember her name, because she made a point to remember mine. Definitely made me feel at home in a restaurant that I've never tried. I ordered the crawfish balls and fried fish and shrimp platter. The food was worth the price. I was able to split the food into two meals. The crawfish balls actually surprised me on how good they were. The fish and shrimp were seasoned well, but I always have to have hot sauce with my fish lol. When lent rolls around this year this is going to be one of my go to spots.

Toyya L.

Yelp
Worst customer service ever!! My outfit was not inappropriate at all! I was shamed loud in front of several customers and asked to walk across the street to purchase a T-Shirt! I feel like they have a deal with the people next door! Also I was sitting in their lobby waiting for over an hour and no one said anything until we were about to be seated. Amanda's attitude was terrible and a bit snappy and racial with her approach!!! She asked myself and a person in our party to change when there was several ppl dressed the same way! Not worth the wait or the hassle!!! I will never come here again!!!

Jana G.

Yelp
Sat at the bar - had wonderful, friendly service and the freshest, largest raw oysters we ever had. Ambiance is very nice and the restaurant was very clean, not the case everywhere we went in the NO area. Stuffed mushrooms were fantastic and looking around at the other tables, the fried seafood looked amazing. Yes, I wanted to take pics of other people's food. Restrained myself.

John V.

Yelp
Good food and large servings. 1/2 if a seafood platter is plenty for two really hungry people. The bread pudding is one of the best desserts I have ever eaten.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Thanks for opening your doors on Fat Tuesday. Stopped in with my family and some friends and we had a blast. The service was great tons of smiles and everyone was very welcoming. Our seafood platter was fried to perfection. We had the sundae for dessert and it was very tasty.

Lynx M.

Yelp
Customer Service: 5 stars; Ms. Mary and another lovely lady waited on my table of four. They gave Amazing customer service. Very friendly, warm personalities, and they made our dinning experience wonderful. Price point: 4 stars: I blame inflation Portion size 4 stars: depends on what you order, the crab balls they could give you 5 for the price. Cleanliness: 5 stars Food: 5 stars: the fried catfish was great, the crab balls were Devine, the coleslaw was bussin!, the gumbo was terrific! Bonus information and bonus stars (2); the Kids menu was fairly priced and the portions were big. Very impressed. Great Job guys keep up the fantastic work. I've lived in NO for awhile and I didn't know about this place until my fiance introduced me to it because this is his absolute favorite. I see why, BRAVO!

Peggy D.

Yelp
Loved the broiled oysters . Loved bbq shrimp. Loved the bread . The etoufe was delicious . Red beans and rice , the crab balls were sublime- we don't know they got them off the crabs- but they were awesome. A fantastic experience and we will be back next time!

Reyna U.

Yelp
Being from New Mexico I had never tried barbecue shrimp with grits so I thought I would give it a try. The dish was very filling and I don't think I'll eat for a month! My mother ordered the gumbo and bread pudding for dessert which was also yummy. While the food was good the be

Yelp
This looks place was so delicious!! The etofuee was amazing and the fish was so good!! We got the stuffed mushrooms too and they we're definitely a 10/10!! We will be coming back!!

Nanette M.

Yelp
Omgosh!!!! You HAVE to have the CARROT Soufflé!!!!!! I'm so glad one of the hostesses was walking by when we asked our waiter if the carrots were comparable to yams-she said waaaay better and I agree. Everyone ordered one and we all ate it all up and agreed it was the star of the entire meal. And we ordered alot of items!!! I got filet steak which was juicy even though I ordered it well done. Kudos to the cook or chef. Hubby got green beans, stuffed shrimp, potato salad, and slaw. He loved every single item!!! I don't recall what our 3 adult kids got, but it was a smorgasbord for sure!!!! And EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS! Highly recommend that carrot soufflé though!!!! Sorry we forgot to take pics :-/

Yelp
Everything I tried was fireeee. We were a table of 10 on a holiday weekend and somehow missed the busy wave. We were seated pretty quickly and our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The food was great! I like that they offer boiled potatoes as their complementary appetizer. It was different and if you get the bbq shrimp, dip the potatoes in the sauce lol. Everything was good individually but also great mixed. Example, if you get bbq shrimp and the bacon wrapped shrimp, dip the bread in the bbq shrimp sauce and put the bacon wrapped shrimp & onions on it *chefs kiss* fire. The giant seafood platter fed 4 hungry adults (we had a few appetizers) and we still had lots of food left over. I'll be back for sure!

Arlene W.

Yelp
The staff is great. We were seated immediately as it was the end of the day. We ordered seafood platter, crab cakes, fried oysters dinner and cocktails. Everything was prepared quickly and fried to perfection nothing was overcooked which is a pet peeve. The cocktails are clinical in size and alcohol. It was a good dinner all in all

Yelp
I'd had two amazing experiences with this Deanie's last year, but this time it was a nightmare. I ordered online from the Deanie's website which directed me to ChowNow.com... I made my order, paid the fees and even a tip. After a text that my food was on the way I got a RUDE phone call from the most hood of hood chicks. She told me my delivery instructions were too complicated for her... She went on to say how people who live in high rises shouldn't order delivery... She was so abusive and rude I wondered if this was a prank etc. I suggested she cancel the order as it was such a problem. She then began screaming at me about how I have "white privilege" (I'm black by the way) and I'm making her job difficult. I hung up and called ChowNow.com for a refund. I called Deanie's and of course they gave zero Fs.

Michelle W.

Yelp
The food was fresh and delicious and the service was amazing. When you go ask for Mary. She's the best! Oh! And get a Sazerac.

Ron S.

Yelp
Oh my god! The food is outstanding. The meal starts out with boiled potatoes. We had the Fried Shrimp and Fried Catfish. That was a lot of food for 2 people. Unfortunately we were too full for dessert, but the Cheesecake and Pecan Pie looked incredible. Friendly staff, very welcoming and great service.

Shironda H.

Yelp
Everything was delicious and Charlotte should be employee of the year!! She is super friendly & very attentive. Never let her go!!

Cameron H.

Yelp
Best chargrilled oysters in NOLA. Clean and swimming in garlic butter! Shrimp tacos were yummy too. Mary, was our server. She was so much fun. Friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this location over the others. This location was clean and well lite Unlike the other locations.

LaTonya D.

Yelp
This was my first time eating at this location. The food was very good, my friend and I shared the seafood platter (more than enough for 2 people). The service was excellent! Our waitress Tracy was very nice and pleasant, she took good care of us. The ambiance was warm and inviting. I will definitely go back and hopefully this time they have the cheesecake for dessert

Kathy D.

Yelp
The waitress was super friendly and fun. The food was delicious. The free dish of boiled red potatoes was a nice surprise and good. We ate them all. The bread pudding is unique and memorable. The salad dressings are home made and the fig vinaigrette was tasty.

Truvae D.

Yelp
Meh- this wasn't our destination that night but this is where we ended up! We were seated quickly and they require guest to provide contact information for contact tracing purposes. Our waitress came in a timely manner to greet us and take our drink orders. We ordered sprites but it was out. so I ordered a Ginger Ale and my bf ordered a Dr. Pepper. My Ginger Ale was nasty so I opted for a Sweet tea. We ordered: Side salads (FYI they do not serve ranch) so he got a ceasar and I had a house salad. For entrees, he ordered the Stuffed Crab and I ordered the Seafood platter (Shrimp, Oysters & Catfish) and onion rings. EVERYTHING at come out together. Not sure why our salads didn't come out first as it wasn't apart of the entree. I asked for tarter sauce, there wasn't anymore so I had to wait for some to be made. I asked for hot sauce- they don't have any. Everything was "good" except for the catfish! It literally tasted like they just pulled it out the water. I could taste mud. So disgusting! Ughhhh Even with limited capacity, they were sllllloooow!

Yelp
We hosted a luncheon for my daughter's 30th birthday back in August. And while the food was fine, the service we received, and some of the restaurant's policies ensure we won't be returning to any of their restaurants. Our primary issues were that the catering manager made us feel as if the restaurant was doing us a favor by letting our 50 person group host our event at their location (Magazine Street). She wasn't very responsive once the initial contract was signed, and her tone was not welcoming. As well, the policy of charging for a kid's meal for any child one year old or older seemed heavy handed. When we arrived for our event we discovered that the restaurant was not ADA compliant. Our event was upstairs but the restaurant had no mechanism to get a wheelchair bound member of our party upstairs. We literally had to carry him upstairs in his wheelchair. The meal was served buffet style, but we were forced to pay an additional $100 to order more food for late arrivals when the restaurant stopped replenishing the food. Overall, my wife and I were not happy with our group's experience, and we certainly would not recommend Deanies.

Chassidy S.

Yelp
If you're looking for Deanie's without the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter location, check this place out. They serve complimentary boiled red potatoes that are absolutely delicious. It's the same Deanie's menu, so all of your favorite dishes are here. Our server was kind. The other staff person wasn't mean, but her customer service wasn't giving good vibes. The food was okay, my family really enjoyed the food.

Patti P.

Yelp
Food is outrageously delicious. Our waiter Glenn was fantastic. Great personality & extremely helpful when trying to figure out what to order. Overall great choice for great New Orleans seafood.

Irene M.

Yelp
Came here for their restaurant week special, 3 courses for $25... our party of 6 made a reservation and we were quickly seated upstairs. I ordered the appetizer of the gumbo was VERY good, the only critique is that they used different parts of a blue crab to serve to the 2 others that ordered the gumbo. As seen in the picture, I have a claw, and the other two got half of the body with the other claw. We put our 3 crab body parts together and it made a whole crab..... We really wanted a crawfish broil but they did not have crawfish or crabs available. Very disappointed. I ordered the combo basket with shrimp, fried oysters, and catfish... the portion size is HUGE! Very very filling, the dessert was a lava cake or a custard. Both were delicious!

stacie d.

Yelp
We went to Deanies on Magazine for lunch today. I've rated at the Bucktown location for years (and to the Iberville location a few times). This location was a disappointment. I had the fried shrimp and catfish with fries. Both tasted frozen nothing like what I've had at the other locations. I'm probably won't be returning to that location. Hopefully, the quality at the other locations hasn't changed as well.

Jazz M.

Yelp
HORRIBLE MANAGER ON STAFF! His name is Mike. No way your attitude should be that bad being front of house manager. Our server Lou was AMAZING!!!!!

Tom M.

Yelp
Great restaurant in an interesting neighborhood. I had soft shell crab, wife had stuffed crab, shared bread pudding. Always

Tanisha B.

Yelp
Make reservations and get to eating!! The broiled crab claws are amazing. The buttery sauce that surrounds them tastes like heaven. We also had the crab au gratin! All I can say is that you will have a truly satisfying xplosion of flavor in your mouth once you taste this dish. The staff was amazing!!! Kind and personable!!! It is a casual dining place, so no need to dress up unless you want.

Seafed S.

Yelp
Fantastic! Crab mushrooms were delicious. Brownie sundae was really tasty and huge. Our server was exceptional. We enjoyed it

Jiavani H.

Yelp
Food was really tasty. Got the fried crab platter. Everything was good and visit again.

Reia B.

Yelp
I was going to give this Deanie's a try, despite some negative reviews. Well I had been trying to contact the Deanie's on Magazine since yesterday. I called today, 5/12/21, for the second time at 12:51 and a male answered the phone. I asked if I could make a reservation for six, and before I could get the date out, he cuts me off saying, "All reservations are made online through OpenTable." I Then said that for parties larger than four, they say to contact the restaurant. He then says, " Well that means there are no reservations." and just dismisses me and hangs up. Based on this interaction, I have no desire to visit this restaurant. He didn't even try to check anything!

Pranav P.

Yelp
Can't say how this ranks amongst the NOLA po boys but it's the only one I had and I loved it. It was huge and I finished it. Had the shrimp one with a brew. Good meal.

Kenneth S.

Yelp
There seafood platter is top notch, the half order can easily serve 2-3 people. The stuffed shrimp were huge. The lemon meringue pie was tasty too!

Tee S.

Yelp
Delicious and great service! I also got a carry out and it was very well packed! I will definitely go back every time in in New Orleans!

Mariah C.

Yelp
Just okay. The manager was a little rude. We were waiting and patrons came in and were seated immediately. When the manager was questioned about why, she had an attitude when telling us that the people had a reservation--no attitude was needed as I asked a simple question. Decided to order food to go. Got the gumbo and the rice they gave with it was SO SMALL. I added a picture for reference

Derekica J.

Yelp
My first visit to Deanie's was in my teenage years visiting the NOLA with my parents. They had a seafood sauce that I crave to this day and made me fall in love with food. Going back as an adult I feel the same nostalgia and have received the same feeling with the fried seafood platter and boiled crawfish. The food is amazing, hands down, no room for discussion. When you think New Orleans, next should be Deanies seafood. An ultimate statement in New Orleans seafood

Karen W.

Yelp
After a disappointing experience with the reservation process at Ruby Slipper we ventured into Deanies. Steve our server put up with the repeated questions as to what was good. We had charbroiled oysters, well they really didn't taste charbroiled but they were very good. We ended up just ordering a little of this and that, the Fried Artichoke were an order theses again, red beads and rice was large portion good spice could have been a little spicer for me, the crawfish balls another order again.

Tawnya Renee A.

Yelp
We love NOLA We heard about this place and when we drove by it looked like a hole in the wall, so of course we had to try it! Started with a rosemary martini Then while our waiter was taking our order another person brought out a tray of potatoes and butter. Puzzled, I took a picture and when our waiter walked by he asked why I was taking a picture. I told him because I thought it was odd that they brought us a tray of just random potatoes. He explained that instead of bread and butter "real" seafood places will bring you potatoes and butter because they have an abundance of them since they're boiled with the corn, shrimp and crabs. ‍ So of course I tried some and can I say I only want potatoes boiled this way? The flavor and seasoning from all the corn, shrimp and crabs were out of this world! Homemade coleslaw, corn, fries, fried shrimp, oysters and catfish all were amazing! * #makingmemories #funtrip #familytime #adventure #driving #storiestotell #longdrive #love #roadtrip #travel #nolalife #tourist #seafoodboil #nola #seafood #vacation #drinks #mustdotravels #food #potatoes #localflavor

Yelp
I was recommended this particular restaurant by multiple woof friends I notice one of the locations were closed and the other location was a bit a ways from where I was staying from in downtown so I went to the one on magazine street. They told me I had to make a reservation which idea for a party of one however when I got there there were zero people there so what was the point of reservation may be for tracking purposes. Furthermore, once I was seated I was greeted by the waitress who presented me with a menu for food/drink options. I only order appetizers which I had the stuffed mushrooms with crab meat and the crab balls since I was the only one there, food came out pretty quickly which was a plus. I would say my food was mediocre and a bit greasy. I feel like I couldn't really taste the seasoning of the stuffed mushrooms because of the over drench butter that they were sitting in. Also I couldn't tell if or what the stuff the mushrooms with besides crab meat. The crab boss comes in the order of three and it's the same as the stuffed mushroom but breaded which they could have been served with some type of dipping sauce but I managed to pour hot sauce on them to give it a bit of flavor. Overall would I come back to this particular spot I will say no but I like what I like.

JB R.

Yelp
This is a solid place. We stopped in when our walking trip of the garden district was rained out for a bit. We started with the raw oyster. Yum. Each table is given a bowl of boiled red potatoes with butter. Add some of the salt and pepper. Delicious and simple. We also shared the fried crab platter. It had crab au gratin, fried soft shell crab, fried crab balls, and fried crab legs (little yummy things) over a bed of fries. Everything was Fantastic- including the homemade tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. Our server, whose name I missed, was amazing. Great place with great food and service.

Ashley Y.

Yelp
Great seafood friendly staff. Got the bbq shrimp. It was good. They bring you free potatoes with butter to start.
