Cocktail parlor with fancy drinks & elevated bites in an upscale space with a time-traveling theme.
"Owned by the people behind Raines Law Room, this is a classy cocktail spot. It’s a good first date move - they even take reservations (though walk-ins are fine too) and have some small plates of food too." - katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg
"Capacity: 25-100 There are four rooms at Dear Irving, and every room has a different theme. So you could technically rent out Dear Irving and have four different costume parties. That would run you more than $3,000 per hour, however, so the practical alternative is to rent a single room, such as the one inspired by Marie Antoinette. It’s all the way in the back, and you can reserve it for a swanky birthday or a classy bachelorette party. Dear Irving is located in Gramercy, so it’s a good middle ground for uptown and downtown people, and it’s an ideal option if you have money to spend and you care about interior design." - Nikko Duren, Bryan Kim, Neha Talreja
"Dear Irving is a single bar divided into a few different sections, and each section has its own theme. One has a 1920s theme with beaded curtains and Art Deco light fixtures, another looks like a penthouse living room from the 1960s, and there’s also space with gold-trimmed velvet furniture that feels like a chamber at Versailles where various members of the royal family would pet dogs and take naps. Depending on which decade or century you currently identify with, you can sit in any one of these rooms. Just be sure to make a reservation, and plan on spending a significant amount of money. Cocktails here aren’t cheap - but that’s what you should expect from a place where you can sit on a velvet couch and press a button to call your server." - bryan kim
"The team behind Raines Law Room, which set a new standard for speakeasy elegance, opened this similarly sexy bar in Gramercy in 2014. While the apartment-like entrance is anything but striking, the decor — including crystal curtains and a room inspired by Marie Antoinette — makes a dramatic statement. Drinks run the gamut from tiki to a wide selection of whiskeys." - Eater Staff, Paul Schrodt, Lorelei Yang
"This was one of the first bars that I visited when I moved to New York City. I still remember walking into this speakeasy and thinking, this place is exactly what people imagine when they think of a speakeasy in New York. There are several different rooms, including the JFK room that is straight out of Mad Men, The Gatsby room, glamorous with beaded booths, and the Marie Antoinette room, which looks exactly like it sounds—all chandeliers and red velvet couches. There’s a buzzer when you are ready to order, the drinks are lethal and they do the best Gibson I’ve ever had. -Palllavi Kumar" - CNT Editors
