"Walking Time To The Chase Center: 14 minutes If you’re taking Muni to go to the Chase Center, consider starting your night with tacos and margaritas at Death By Taco—it’s right across the street from the 4th and King Street station in China Basin. Here, a single taco is a steep $10, but the quality of the ingredients makes it worth it. There are 13 tacos on the menu, but we recommend going for the Dirty Girl with braised pork and spicy sauce, the battered and fried fish taco, or the chips and guacamole to split." - Lani Conway, Julia Chen 1, Ricky Rodriguez

"The tacos at Death By Taco are pricey ($10 per taco), but the quality of the ingredients makes it worth it. Go for the Dirty Girl with braised pork and spicy sauce, the fish taco that’s crispier than cereal without milk, or their chips and guacamole to split with a few friends. They also make strong margaritas that are perfect after a long day at work. If you’re using this place to pregame before going to the Chase Center, Death By Taco is right across from the 4th and King Street Muni station." - Will Kamensky

Came here on a Tuesday night with a reservation and it was super fast to get seated! Good: - Unique dishes and takes on things - had a super pretty guac and chips $16 was too much to pay for it though, the chips were super oily and fried which I did like though - I liked the spinach enchilada, but the initial taste is a little pungent and not super appetizing, the more you eat the tastier it gets! - The overall vibe was nice for a friend catchup! The food tastes more healthy than others. Bad: - Super pricey - spent about $40 a person for a simple appetizer and 1 entree. Overall this place was good, but due to price, I probably won't go again.

Google
Great, prompt service. Loved the decor. Lot's of taco options. Ordered the Burrito and Quesadilla. Both are big enough to share. Both of these were incredibly delicious. Also the chips and salsa were very good. Super fair prices too. Check this place out!

Google
Great tacos & Burritos! We ordered cod, shrimp, spicy fried chicken, pork belly & steak 5-taco. I like spicy fried chicken and pork belly. Pull pork burrito is also delicious!

Google
The hidden gem in a big city. With a deep love of his culture, the owner fulfills a modern and complex take of traditional Mexican fare. Truly original recipes reinvigorate the senses and add more value to old traditions. A vibrant interior, coupled with genuine hospitality was only in addition to their enticing menu. Nothing was overlooked, as every detail in each drink and dish was given full attention. Even seemingly insignificant items like free chips and salsa were upholstered to fresh deep fried tortilla chips and heated fresh salsa. The tacos are a must have. They are creative, modern, and complex, but still give honor their historical counterpart. I hope that nobody just sees this as another Mexican restaurant. It is so much more, deserving your attention, in bringing new life and flavor to the classic Mexican food you love.

After a day of feeling defeated and searching for some good food we ended up here and we were so happy. Our waiter Mario was absolutely amazing. They were so great with any modifications and the food was delicious. Highly recommend for a good dinner.

Google
I really liked the service here. They are welcoming and I love how they designed the place. Prices are reasonable. In terms of the tacos they are well crafted, put a lot of thought in the menu. It was tasty but per se didn’t pop me or wow Me super hard. But I’ll for sure come back again!

Google
I like this place. It's simple Mexican but I enjoyed everything I tried. Fish taco and the Mushroom taco were both interesting. Death by taco sauce was extremely hot like a ghost pepper with a nice bitterness. If you enjoy really hot sauces it's nice on the side to add. Margarita with mezcal was really boozy and simple like you'd expect. Not overly sweet. Prices are higher than normal but this is Mission Bay, that's unfortunately what it is here. Service was excellent. There is better Mexican in the city, but this is a great choice for the neighborhood.

Google
I rarely if ever go out of my way to give bad/low reviews since most of the time they are average at best. However, do not let the picture fool you, I am surprised how they made something have so much and so little taste at the same time. My taste buds were confused because though there was a seemingly plentiful amount of flavor profiles at play, from the carne asada to the guacamole to the cilantro and everything in between, there was a plentiful amount of nothing. I don't know if I've experienced this before. Outside of that the atmosphere was fantastic, very friendly staff that are attentive to you during your time. I cannot say anything about their cocktail selection.

Yelp
Death by taco was a fun atmosphere and close to major transportation. It was easy to make a reservation prior and we were seated immediately. The staff were friendly and answered all our questions. We started off with a Paloma pitcher and it was delicious! It was sparkling grapefruit goodness. Definitely had a good amount of alcohol that you realized within the first sip. I ordered a corn and avocado quesadilla. It was nice pieces of creamy corn and fresh avocado.

Valerie G.

Yelp
Mad expensive for tacos but a pretty solid spot and they were super tasty! $10 a taco should be illegal -- especially because I'm from Chula Vista where it's like $3 a taco at TEG, LOL. What is different about this place is the taco NAMES. A conversation starter and definitely the one thing that I'll always remember. You gotta go to see them! Street parking, in Mission Bay, convenient eat before any Chase Center events.

Yelp
Great little spot on 4th Street to stop by (with or without reservation). Staff is friendly, considerate and willing to accommodate family/kids needs! Our food came to the table incredibly fast and reminded me of authentic Mexican food I used to find down in Baja prior to the pandemic. If you like Mexican food, it's a must to check out!

Kristine O.

Yelp
This spot is so underrated! Loveeee this place. Their taco names are fun and the pulled pork, carne asada, blackened salmon tacos were delicious. Their house made hot salsa with chips are super addicting. We often ask for nice mezcal to sip and got really good recommendations. Everyone is so kind and welcoming, this place should have more customers. Please check this spot out if you're in mission Bay Area!

Yelp
Such a hidden gem! We started with the guac and chips (you get an unlimited refills of chips) which was delicious. The red sauce that comes with it is delicious when paired with the homemade chips and guac. The tacos were DELICIOUS, best tacos I've had in the city. They fill the tacos up with plenty of fillings and are 100% worth the $10. They also come with an avocado and habanero sauce which is very spicy but AMAZING on top of the tacos. The staff was friendly except it was hard to get in at first. They required a reservation even though there were few people so we just made a reservation on yelp on the spot for 20 mins out and then we were able to get seated. So heads up make a reservation!!!

Yelp
Forewarning...we didn't get to try the food so this rating is solely based on service, or lack of, to be more exact.. We walked in around 1pm on a Friday and there were about 4-5 tables already seated. We stood in the front waiting to be seated and no one greeted us till someone finally told us we can sit any where we liked. There was literally one person working the floor and one person behind the bar. After waiting 10 min with no one stopping by or acknowledging our existence, we walked out. The menu looked pretty good, albeit expensive Mexican food but we'll never know for ourselves.

Yelp
Wonderful, welcoming service! Close to the Caltrain so definitely a good spot to stop by when waiting for the next one. That's exactly what I did with about 50 minutes to kill. First time having antelope, a very interesting experience. Price point can be a bit high for tacos, but they are a bit premium. Starter Chips - double layered and extra greasy, they taste good but must not be good for you. With some housemade(?) salsa, this is a great starter that's pretty addicting, but I knew each bite was not good haha. The Obligatory Yet Delicious Fish Taco - well the name made me have to order it. Fried cod nested between tortillas, the cod was flavorful and juicy. Avocado and cod were the major flavors but there was a coleslaw that coated everything and added sweetness. The Call of the Wild - seeing antelope made me try this one as I had never tried it before. Antelope tastes like a more tender and maybe even sweet beef. Love this and wish it was more common, I think I prefer it over beef however I have had beef much more and antelope far fewer which could be biased. Avocado and antelope were the big two flavors here with the red onion being a bit present. The rest of the items were mild and not noticeable.

Yelp
The spicy chicken taco was pretty delicious but extremely oily, in fact it was so oily George w Bush was planning on invading solely based on the amount of oil used here, plus it was as spicy as white bread! I guess that's why they call it death by Taco cos the oil.. I also ordered the chips and salsa. Everything came out to about $15. The chips were pretty delicious but again extremely oily, I really wish they added some salt to them. Restaurant was pretty busy since the Giants had just let out overall pretty decent experience but be prepared for some heartburn! P.s. do you guys pour a cup of oil into each plate?

Angelica D.

Yelp
I was pretty excited to try out Death By Taco. With the tacos being $10 each, I knew they had to be pretty meaty. My friends and I started out with chips, guacamole and salsa. The chips were wildly oily which was pretty tough to get past and on top of that they were super thick so I couldn't eat as much as I would've liked. The salsa was served warm but it wasn't super flavorful. The guacamole was pretty good. The tacos were meaty as expected but again the level of oil that spewed from them was a bit ridiculous. Our tacos were served in a bed of juices and oil so we had to eat them quick before the tacos fell apart which they did anyways. The concept and the ambiance are pretty cool but the service fees on top of the oily food will keep me at bay.

Shelley T.

Yelp
Came here after an event because it was the closest restaurant. The place had cute decor and goes hard with the puns on the menu for the names of the tacos. Each taco was $10, which seems pricey at first but they do have a lot of filling so I think it's fair. We had the shrimp, carne asada, and fish tacos. The fish was huge! Overall the toppings were good but I was not really a fan of the super thick tortilla. Maybe it needed to be grilled another minute but it was a little doughy. They give free chips and salsa, the chips were a bit greasy but the salsa was good.

Yelp
The spot: Stopped here on the way to the Warriors game, pretty close to Chase Center. Cool spot, nicely decorated, chill vibes, music playing - great spot to grab a drink and a bite. The bathroom could have been cleaner. Service was pretty good. We got our food & drinks fairly quick. The food: The Smoky Chipotle Queso is fire! Hands down the best queso I've ever had. It was smoky, cheesy, and everything you would want in a queso. They have house made chips, which were really good. A bit greasy, but super delicious. I couldn't stop eating the chips & queso. Definitely try this appetizer! Tacos - I loved their creativity and uniqueness to their flavors. They all sounded amazing. These tacos are big and full of toppings. The tacos were good and made with organic corn tortillas. My husband got the I Wanna Be Loved Bayou taco! He said it was the best salmon taco he's ever had. The flavors complimented each other perfectly. The blackened salmon was perfectly cooked too. I tried The Greenest Pastures. Braised Pork Belly, Sunny Side Up Egg, avocado salsa, and black garlic aioli - Amazing! I also tried the Fish Taco and it was delicious. The toppings really elevated the fish. I was happy with my choices. The drink: Michelada - This was good and spicy, but a little small for its price. It should have been served in a bigger glass. Not sure a full beer fit in the drink. But the Berryessa Mexican Lager that they use was good. Margarita - Tried the house Margarita and ordered it with a tajin rim. It was pretty good, also small for its price. They offer a wide variety of Tequilas and Mezcal. I would definitely come back if I was going to a Giants or Warriors game.

Yelp
The tacos are $10 each, which is steep, especially considering the super casual venue. They are actually very good though, and big enough that you can make a meal of just two. What really disappointed me during my last visit to DBT was the slow and inattentive service, even though the restaurant wasn't busy.

Riya A.

Yelp
Nice interiors, very colorful and festive. It's located at a street corner and there is lots of light in the restaurant and at each table. All the vegetarian tacos on the menu are just okay. Don't think I'll go out of my way to re-visit. If you want tacos but you're trapped in Mission Bay, go here. If you want great tacos, maybe look elsewhere.

Narin J.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on Friday. We had a pitcher of their classic margaritas which went down too easy. Not too sour or sweet. We started with Chips and Guacamole and they refilled our chips once we were running low. I picked two tacos the Chicken Tinga taco and the Philly Cheesesteak taco. I loved the flavor of the chicken tinga and the chicken was well seasoned and the perfect texture. I also enjoyed the Cheesesteak Taco - the Carne Asada had a great flavor and it was a large serving of higher quality meat. I didn't finish both of these because they are huge. My one complaint is there was no salsa? There was none served with chips or any of the entrees and no hot sauce either. Our server was nice and attentive especially since he was literally doing everything - serving all the tables and making drinks! I'd definitely come here again and try more items.

Yelp
(3.5 stars rounded up) I'm always on the hunt for unique dining experiences, and Death By Taco did not disappoint. Located right next to the Caltrain station, this cozy little gem had a lot to offer. To start, the crispy chips were undoubtedly good, but they left me yearning for a bit less oil. Although they were beautifully crunchy, the excess grease detracted from their overall appeal. However, the redeeming quality was the salsa--simply divine! Bursting with smoky flavors, it left a lasting impression on my taste buds. Moving on to the ceviche, I must admit that I had high hopes. While the freshness of the seafood was evident, it fell short in the acidity department. A touch more zing would have elevated this dish to greater heights. Now, let's talk about the deep-fried avocado taco. I must confess, I was somewhat disappointed. While the concept seemed promising, the execution left much to be desired. The lack of flavor in the avocado, combined with a mundane seasoning, failed to ignite my taste buds. It's a shame, as I was expecting a burst of flavors in every bite. On a brighter note, the elote was a winner. My partner and I found ourselves thoroughly enjoying the succulent corn, perfectly slathered in a symphony of savory and tangy seasonings. My partner's ordered two tacos: the carne asada and the kentucky fried chicken. Of the two, carne asada was his favorite as the chicken taco fell short of its fiery promise. While the menu touted a scorching experience, the reality was quite different. The spice level was disappointingly mild, failing to deliver the heat that was expected. A bit more fire would have done wonders. On the service front, Death By Taco deserves commendation. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was as smooth as possible. Orders were taken promptly, and our food arrived in a timely manner. Their hospitality certainly added to the overall enjoyment of our visit.

Yelp
I literally got killed by these tacos. As in the tacos were too heavy for my stomach and ended up having an upset stomach session. That's a me issue, the tacos tasted amazing. I had ordered The Greenest Pastures and You'll Remember Me Tomorrow, one had featured an egg with pork belly, the other was to be with spicy peppers and spicy chicken. I definitely remembered the meal... The tacos were sizable, they also have bottomless chips and salsa, so 2 tacos would be more than enough for a meal. They have enchiladas on the menu. Flavors were amazing!! Don't wear that white shirt because their tacos will make it very messy. Would I still come back after the yacking and upset stomach? Actually I might, but I'll need to let my stomach slowly adjust to heavier foods before coming here.

Trish E.

Yelp
Craving tacos but menu pictures had us wanting enchiladas. I was truly rooting for this place. With their funny menu names. So quirky! I love it! We ordered Cheese enchiladas that were buried under a bed of mediocre rice. Super dry not enough sauce and the Spinach Enchiladas because the picture on the menu was very appealing. The rich creamy sauce had my mouth watering. But here again not enough sauce and the filling was dried out sautéed spinach that could've of at least used a pinch of salt or 3. Should've ordered more corn which was amazing. The complimentary chips and red and green salsa were a fan favorite. So good. Next time I'm in town I'm willing to try the tacos!!

Yelp
Came here with my partner to eat/drink before the Blackpink concert and oooomg, we were so impressed with the manager, kitchen staff, ambiance, and overall experience. First, we came into the restaurant with Kpop blasting to celebrate Blackpinks concert. That said a lot to me already. Second, I use to work in the restaurant business and it's rare to see the manager behind the bar making everyones drinks. Kudos to her! She was composed, no stress and was honestly enjoying her time. Third, my partner and I were ordering food and drinks nonstop. That's how amazing the food tasted and how the vibe was. It was legit a party! Cheers to the owners, management and staff in this establishment. My partner and I are definitely coming back to this spot.

Jim T.

Yelp
Nicely located in Mission Bay, service staff was friendly but food was just okay and on the pricier end. The dishes were too greasy for my liking. - Tacos - The beef taco was good but the meat was dry. The fish and chicken tacos were both battered and deep fried, we couldn't really taste the difference between the 2 (lol). - Quesadilla - $15 for some very bland and cheap cheese. The tortillas needed to be grilled for at least another 5 minutes, they were served soft and soggy. I took them home and re-grilled them myself, tasted much better.

Rafael C.

Yelp
Good atmosphere. Stopped by for a drink before the game. The Mezcal margarita was excellent. Coming back to try the food. Yup

Yelp
Located a block away from Oracle Park on 4th and King street, we came to Death by Taco prior to the Giants game this weekend. I thought the name of the restaurant is a fun name. The dining area and atmosphere is spacious and casual. The employees all seemed very friendly. But how was the food? The Obligatory Yet Delicious Fish Taco: Battered and Fried Wild Cod, Honey-Cilantro Slaw, Roasted Sweet Corn, Guacamole, Chipotle Aioli, Cotija Cheese. This was the best of the tacos we ate. Solid and good tasting fried fish taco. Shrimply Irresistible: Grilled Butter Shrimp, Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, Roasted Sweet Corn, Cotija Cheese. I thought this taco was solid, can't go wrong with shrimp. As If Avocados Weren't Tasty Enough: Chunks of Fried Avocado, Even More Guacamole, Cilantro Lime Crema, Honey Cilantro Slaw, Cotija Cheese. Oh yea, Avocado on top of fried avocado. It was decent. Guacamole with Tortilla Chips: their guacamole comes on all the tacos and the chips they serve here are good, so can't go wrong with Chips and Guacamole. Margarita: the drinks are extremely weak. It's like drinking juice. Hard pass on the drinks. Overall I'd say the service was mediocre. Drinks were bad. Food was decent. But for three tacos and five alcoholic beverages it was $135. So don't plan to save money here because they are charging Ball Park prices. I do think it's a solid establishment but next time I'd probably just get food in the ballpark for the same price.

Wendy S.

Yelp
I came here for lunch. Sit down service includes chips and salsa. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. The mole sauce was a real treat! It tasted freshly made, with wonderful chocolate, orange, cinnamon and chili flavors. The chicken filling was moist and had a slightly smoked flavor. The rice and whole black beans were okay but nothing special. The waiter was friendly and my order came out quickly. I look forward to visiting again if I'm in the area.

Amy O.

Yelp
Great ambiance and service. For appetizer, we got the guacamole and chips. Both were great, but the chips really stood out. For the main, I ordered the pork belly taco and fish taco. 1 taco is enough- they are huge. I also had the Paloma, which was tasty. A little strong on the tequila, but not complaining!

Eileen C.

Yelp
A bit pricier for good Mexican tacos and burritos, but they put a creative spin on them! The pork belly burrito is delicious and all of their tacos are yummy. The restaurant is packed when there are Giants and Warriors games and it's a great place to get drinks too. The decor gives the place good vibes and it's super close to the Caltrain station if you need a quick bite before leaving!

Dominic B.

Yelp
Comfortably located by Mission Bay, Death By Taco is an essential, high quality spot to get your taco fix on! Additionally, all the ingredients they utilize are organic and non-GMO! - The Obligatory Yet Delicious Fish Taco - Wet Burrito w/ Braised Elk and Spinach Tortilla One thing to note though is that the tacos are pricey. They run $8-$10 each which is way more than I would pay for a taco, tbh, but the fish tacos are $4 on Tuesday for Taco Tuesday, all day. On that note, I really enjoyed the fish taco! The fried cod was crispy yet delicate and included honey-cilantro slaw, roasted sweet corn, guac, and Chipotle aioli. It was loaded with flavor and very generously built. The burritos that they serve are also very interesting due to the customizability of them and the unique ingredients. It can come dry or wet (melted cheese, Guajillo red pepper sauce. green chile sauce, and sour cream). Proteins include chicken tinga, carne asada, blackened salmon, fried cod, Spanish seitan, fried avocado, Yucatan pulled pork, braised elk, chorizo, poblano peppers, shrimp, or spicy fried chicken. You can even choose different tortillas (traditional. sinach, or Chipotle). My wet burrito was very delicious and very filling. The braised elk was tender and I honestly could only eat half as it was so loaded!

Delia I.

Yelp
Mediocre food for Mexican tacos, cold tortilla, overpriced $10.00 each taco oh boy!!! I ordered Paloma and it tasted like regular Margarita, strong and good but wasn't a Paloma. I was eating when server checked on me for the last call for drinks I said I'm ok. 2 min. after she dropped the check when I was eating!!! Really , that I called a bad service she was nice but why the hurry?.... Anyway my first time since they open , I live close by , but I wasn't sure about this place and yes , not good at all. Sorry not coming back. place it's not autentic mexican.

Michael C.

Yelp
Super close by our apartment, so a really convenient location to grab food. However, it is a bit on the pricier side, which definitely lowers it by a star. Expect around 20 dollars a person, which is not close to what you might pay in the Mission! A huge plus are the free chips they give. It's a super unique style; quite thick, super crispy and crunchy, and holds sauce very well. It's definitely on the oily side, but super delicious! It also comes with a red and a green sauce, both of which are great. The fried chicken taco was not bad, but the chicken flavoring was a little off to me. A little much umph on the spicy, and not enough actual flavor. The sauce was pretty good though! The carne asana taco was very average; the steak was dry and stringy, and didn't carry much flavor. The fish taco was the best! Fairly satisfying crunch, but definitely wished there was some more fresh veggies and sauce. Honestly will be back, but only cause of how close it is!

Ruhi C.

Yelp
The food was delicious, my friends and I each ordered a taco and shared chips and salsa. The tacos were $10 each, which I thought was pretty expensive. However, they are really big tacos and are quite filling. The food and drinks were great! Our server was also really helpful and made our experience even better. Would definitely recommend this place.

Neeketa S.

Yelp
**Vegetarian Friendly** Great spot to hang out next to Chase stadium. Our Order: - Complimentary Chips and Salsa - (Taco) El Diablo Vegetariano - the seitan was very well done, full of flavor, and felt hearty - (Taco) Not Quite the 60's - similar to your traditional mushroom taco - (Taco) As If Avocados Weren't Tasty Enough - something was missing from this taco but it has potential (probably needed more sauce) - (Taco) I've Never Met Herbivore - our least favorite, just tasted like unseasoned black beans The burritos, enchiladas, and quesadillas are massive for their price. However, the tacos are very overpriced for one taco. The drinks were great. We did not enjoy the chips and salsa, mostly because the chips were double deep fried and you could see the oil on them. I would be back, if I was in the area. PRO TIP: Make a reservation on Yelp.

Aditi M.

Yelp
Good tacos indeed and very filling. If you like avocados a lot this is the place to get the "as if avocados weren't tasty enough" taco which is loaded with it. It is yum. The other taco I got was alright (basic veggies and beans), it could have tasted better with some nice dressing. Their service was decent - and the restaurant was not too crowded so I could appreciate its serenity and decor.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been so disappointed by a dine-out experience. I understand covid has been difficult on the industry in general and it's hard to find good employees but I can't even start with this experience. We came here as a birthday group of 4 after the warriors game, and waited to be seated. We showed our vaccinations to a few people but for some reasons while they worked for the establishment they weren't the right folks. Ok I understand these are new rules and we aren't all familiar enough to incorporate into routine. But then it was just trying to order. Honestly the single waiter just literally chatted and flirted with everyone else after dumping chips on the table and after 10 min still were not able to order. After we ordered the food came relatively fast. I can't say I was impressed because my quesadilla that everyone talks about was literally a grease bucket and their spicy chicken hot sauce tasted like canola oil but slightly burnt. While the food was lackluster, the service was even worse. He never came around to check on us and after 20+ min I flagged him down after he passed us several times for hot sauce and a round of drinks for the birthday girl. He took our order and 10 min later I snap this photo. No hot sauce, our drinks were waiting at the bar and he was taking shots with the same table he was flirting with all night. I'm super disappointed because I didn't feel like we were excessive. We ordered and the just wanted to get hot sauce but literally no one came to check on us. We couldn't even get water and I ended up asking the person clearing tables next to us to do it. I don't recommend this place because it's not only mediocre food but the service is downright awful.

Jenny L.

Yelp
Ordered takeout through Ritual from here. Arrived a few minutes early and they made me feel at home and insisted I take a seat and they brought over water. I love places that make me feel like I'm family and that's exactly how I felt here. Got the fried fish taco and a carne asada burrito. Definitely not very traditional flavors but I liked it. It also came with chips and salsa. The chips are homemade and thick and crispy. A little oily, but tasty. My only wish was that we had the option for a flour tortilla for taco. Will definitely be back to grab drinks and food!

Moukthika O.

Yelp
Tacos here were filling but average. Didn't get a ton of flavor out of my taco. We also got the smashed avocado and corn quesadilla, and that one was really good but you need to dip it in some salsa. Service was great though! Their death by taco hot sauce was good but it could use more spices, it was just hot. 3/5

Yelp
Overall: Great aesthetic but over-priced for what you get. Quality Mexican food for the area but below-average margaritas. --Environment-- I love the interior of this restaurant. The bar area shows its wide variety of mezcal and tequila options, although bar is quite small. The tables are well-sized with a chair/booth combo. The plates and bowls were my favorite detail about this restaurant. Plenty of light in the restaurant and more of an open-concept feel. There is not too much background noise, which is great for having conversations and also for listening to their music (Adolescent's Orquestra, Aventura, etc.) I have visited this restaurant twice now. Once on a Saturday night and once before a Monday night Warriors game. Both times, we were seated immediately with no reservation (party of 2 on Sat, 5 on Mon). --Drinks-- I appreciate the variety of mezcal and tequila offered at this restaurant. I'm from San Diego - it has been almost impossible to find places in San Francisco with such a variety. My first time visiting the restaurant (party of 2), we ordered a pitcher of their margarita. It was quite sour and the alcohol content was very low. The pitcher was mostly ice. Watered down, it only made (barely) 4 drinks - which if you're paying $48 for a pitcher ($13 for a single margarita), there is no benefit to ordering a pitcher. I've paid way less for way more... The second time, I opted for a single Paloma. Again, very sour and low alcohol content for $13. I probably will not order drinks here in the future. **Mocktail drinkers please note: A few members of my party asked for a mocktail version of a cocktail (a.k.a. just juice, no alcohol). The staff charged the same amount as they would for a cocktail** --Food-- The elote is great! My favorite part of this experience! It is given out on the corn cob with no silverware, therefore I do not recommend it for a first date. It was so good I ordered it a second time. When I ordered it again, I asked for it off the cob. There was a $2 charge for this. Next time, I will just ask for a knife. Carne Asada - I've now gotten the carne asada quesadilla and carne asada tacos. The carne asada does not compare to that of authentic San Diego Mexican food, but it's good given your other options in the area. It is quite chewy. The tacos are large and filling! The corn tortillas were great. I still prefer the quesadilla personally, but I'm a quesadilla girl! --Service-- No complaints here! The service was great! Staff is attentive and respectful.

Yelp
The server was quick and friendly. The food was just okay, but it was a little pricey. Kind of loud, but probably to be expected before a large event at the ballpark.

Yelp
I pass by this place every time I go to the SF Giants games. I decided to grab a drink and bite at this establishment. I did enjoy the food and drinks . It was a fun atmosphere and a great place to grab a drink before and after a game.

Yelp
Staff were nice, ambience is nice. Food was bland, cod taco was over cooked, tortillas felt under cooked, and the list goes on. Michelada was good. Over all, not worth it and I will not be returning.

Yelp
Amazing pork belly taco and micheladas. The tacos are big so order 2 1st before getting more. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place. Took my fam from out of town who really wanted tacos from the West Coast. -Interior decor was aesthetically beautiful including the dishes and glasses the food was served. You must have proof of vaccination and ID before dining indoors. Honestly, they should put an effort in making the outdoor dining area more enticing as well. -Waitress was kind and attentive. Kept up with chips and salsa refills. Chips were good but kind of big and thick. -Tacos were good-I have had better but I would be down to try the others--they had great names on the menu. I liked the fish taco over the shrimp. My husband preferred the fish over the chicken. My sis in law really liked the carne Asada and my brother ordered a burrito with antelope wrapped in chipotle wrap. Overall, nice and if I had to be in the area again would come back.

Yelp
Definitely try the fish tacos! I thought the fish taco was better than the Greenest Pastures taco.

Yelp
Went here before a giants game. Chips were nice and fresh. Spicy and regular margarita plus beer we're refreshing. Dirty girl taco tasted good and I believe my other taco was carne asada. After awhile all the toppings on it overwhelmed the taco and I like flour tortillas over corn. My husband had the Carne asada burrito and said it was ok. Overall pretty good and I'd be willing to try it again because of the location, atmosphere and drinks. Service was good and they got really busy after awhile so had to bring my check in to check out. Sat outside.

Yelp
Death Before Taco arrives. Too bad they are understaffed and food quality not what it used to be.

Yelp
My first visit - and I was super impressed. The restaurant was empty when I came in except for 1 person at the bar. I came in craving tacos and man, I was not disappointed. They offer complimentary chips and salsa to start - ask for the avocado habanero salsa! If you like spicy salsa, it's soooo yummy! I ordered a mezcal margarita and then asked the server, Mario, for his favorites and he recommended the I Wanna Be Loved Bayou and The Greenest Pastures. I ordered both of them and the The Obligatory Yet Delicious Fish Taco... WOW! They were absolutely delicious and STUFFED! Great service, great drinks, great food! Can't go wrong with Death by Taco!

Yelp
TLDR; they work magic with chipotle here and it's worth your time. We passed by DBT on our way to a Giants game and popped in afterwards (we were hungry and obviously the ballpark fare is absurdly overpriced). We were expecting sufficiently edible tacos but got so much more. The ambiance is a nice balance of classic cantina and chic, and the service was prompt and friendly. Shortly after sitting down our waiter brought us chips and salsa. Both were unique. The chips were freshly made and had a lovely, gritty texture. The salsa was warm and smooth with big chipotle flavors. It was difficult to stop eating it, but I was convinced to do so when my gf ordered (and our waiter subsequently brought out) queso dip, which was dreamy, cheesy, and also had pleasing chipotle notes. For our entrees, I ordered a burrito with elk and my gf ordered a chicken tinga quesadilla (that's fun to say!). My burrito was massive. It is against my religion not to finish a burrito once I've started it, and I almost transgressed with this behemoth (and was congratulated by the waiter when I finished, although I needed an hour-long siesta when I got home afterwards). It was also delicious and well mixed, and had a slight crispness on the tortilla (which I especially like). The flavor was heavy, rich, and rustic (as per both the black beans and the elk), and I added the remainder of the salsa (still warm!) to diversify the flavor profile further. My gf's quesadilla was perhaps better. Big chipotle and cheese flavors (to which she added more queso) with a little bit of spice. It was scrumptious. However, unlike me she could not stop herself from eating the chips and queso (and also unlike me she does not have an endless expanse where her stomach should be), so she did not finish her quesadilla. She is also not a fan of leftovers, which gives me the chance to report on how good it is the day after. My report: very good. Overall, this place is excellent. We have decided that this will be our go-to post-game food stop. I am particularly excited to check out not only their other food offerings (e.g., the pulled pork cooked in banana leaves) but also their expansive beer list (in which I did not indulge this time only because I had some work to do after my meal).

Yelp
First time here and I already want to go back. There were 3-4 tacos that we wanted to try, but the nachos were so filling that we couldn't even order tacos. They make their own cheese sauce, the blend is so good. And the beans and chicken are buried below another layer of cheese and chips. Good amount of toppings to cover the plate. Even the chips were hand cut and fried, they stayed crispy as we devoured them!

Yelp
Strong margs (I'm not complaining), super good chips and salsa (like super good), and the fish tacos were excellent! Only comes with one taco but they are huge and very filling.

Yelp
I had been wanting to go hear since it opened few months back. I tried the herbivore taco and Spinach enchiladas. Food - The spinach enchiladas was extremely dry and had no flavor, chips and dip served was extremely oily Service - No water or beverage offered or served until after we were done with our meal and asked for water. No one checked on us before or during the meal. Very unpleasant. Atmosphere and location - Great location with a vibrant atmosphere on a bright sunny day. Their utensils and decor reflected the culture.

Yelp
Maybe this is more of a cocktails, beers type of place? My friend recommended this spot and we went in ordered our food, we both took one bite of our plates and that was it. Server never inquired why we only took one bite. Or if everything was okay? Service staff forgot our non alcoholic drink. I thought it was pretty ridiculous that a single taco was $10 each so I ordered a burrito; wasn't wrapped correctly where I could pick it up or cut it. Just a big rolled up tortilla with stuff coming out both sides. Bunch of rice and I didn't get a protein in my burrito but was still charged for a protein. The black beans didn't taste like they were cooked properly very hard texture. (Maybe they didn't soak the beans overnight before cooking them?) Walked out a little confused how a burrito w/ no meat, another plate and a lemonade was $50 bucks?
