Bright, stylish wine bar, bottle shop & educational venue from two fine-dining vets.
"This SoMa bottle shop, wine bar, and event space hybrid is perfect for unnatural wine amateurs—or if you just have a lot of questions. Everyone here is more than happy to answer any you have while you sip on a glass of albariño that they probably recommended. Beyond the mostly European wine list, beers and spirits are available, as well as enough tinned fishes and mollusks to ensure several (delicious) years of survival on a deserted island. Once you’ve had your fill of grape juice and brine, have a repeat at home, as everything from the by-the-glass wine menu and the selection of canned seafood can be picked up in the bottle shop." - julia chen 1, patrick wong, lani conway
"Like many wine bars, Decant SF also functions as a retail shop, known not only for its selection of Old World wines but also for its commitment to inclusivity and education. Open since 2019, Decant makes a good option whether you’re in the market for a glass — there are typically about 10 selections available at any given time — or a bottle, since the $16 corkage fee makes opening anything you’d like relatively affordable. Pair your beverage with a selection from the list of cheese, charcuterie, and tinned fish." - Lauren Saria, Eater Staff
"Decant SF feels more like a friendly book shop than a wine bar, with its bright lights, colorful walls, and staff that will ask you if there’s anything they can help you with before you even get close to the register. It’s mostly a bottle shop, but you can also drink whatever you buy here or try a glass of something. Plus, they have an extensive cheese and charcuterie menu for you to enjoy with your glass of nebbiolo if you want." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, lani conway, will kamensky
"The owners of SoMa bottle shop and wine bar Decant SF wanted to craft a transportive bathroom experience, and design firm ROY obliged. It’s got its own music, vibe, and general whimsy. The raunchy, technicolor art is cause for a double-take." - Dianne de Guzman, Caleb Pershan
"Decant SF is a good last-minute date option in SoMa. It’s both a bottle shop and a wine bar, and if you’re here to drink, you can have them open a bottle you purchase or choose from a short list of options by the glass. There’s also a fridge with things like cheese and meats that you can buy, and when you do, they’ll set up your choices with some crackers and jams. So instead of trying to recreate this at home before realizing you don’t have a corkscrew, just head here." - Will Kamensky
