"While this fiery northern Thai trailer has a small menu, every dish packs a lot of flavor and spice, from the laab to the soothing om gai. For dessert, the simple mango and sticky rice does the trick when it’s in season (order online before they run out). Be sure to ask about Mango, the dog, too. "Chef Lakana Trubiana cooks up a small but mighty Thai menu from this South Lamar neighborhood truck. The flavorful Isan-style dishes (rooted in the northern region of Thailand) range from comforting om gai (chicken in a chili-paste broth) to a very spicy laab moo. During summer’s peak mango season, the mango sticky rice alone makes Dee Dee worth a visit. The truck is located at the coffee shop and bar Radio (at least until its new restaurant Leona opens), so diners can eat indoors or on the patio at the eclectic space, or take food to go. "Most of Austin’s Thai restaurants have mango sticky rice, but we keep going back to Dee Dee’s because of the pact they made with the fruit gods to obtain a steady stream of mango that’s always at peak ripeness. The sticky rice is warm and chewy, and the sweet coconut milk drizzled over the top ties it all together. Yes, the laab moo is that spicy and when it’s in season, the mango sticky rice is ridiculously great. Since winning the award, the food truck relocated from East Cesar Chavez onto Menchaca Road into Radio Coffee’s space.
