The 11 Best Restaurants In Leyton & Leytonstone - London - The Infatuation

"As seasoned thespians (recipients of a C in GCSE drama), we know that you should never say Macbeth at the theatre. But at this Scottish cafe on the High Road, you should throw that rule in the bin, and your lowly Breville along with it, because Deeney’s signature Macbeth toastie is a breaded legend among locals. It’s dripping in haggis, cheese, and we personally find it to be even more profound than fellow thespian Brian Cox uttering the C word (no, not cheddar). Grab a cookie for the road, too." - heidi lauth beasley

The 12 Best Cheese Toasties In London - London - The Infatuation

"‘Like a highland breeze wafting up your kilt’. That’s the visceral mission statement for this Scottish cafe in Leyton that’s the cosy home of a haggis toastie more profound than Brian Cox grumbling the c word. No, not cheddar. The must-order Macbeth is offal-rich and peppery, with the sweet reprieve of caramelised onion. We’re also into the spicy tomato chutney that comes with the classic ham and cheese number too." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna, daisy meager

Deeney's Leyton - Review - Leyton - London - The Infatuation

"Deeney’s may look like those other cafes that are catnip for 11am freelance oat flat white drinkers—industrial metal beams, trailing house plants, shelves stocked with the kind of artisan condiments that ensure we never have an ISA—but the toasties at the Scottish cafe in Leyton are anything but textbook. All of the cheesy bread offerings are inventive lunchtime remixes, but the signature Macbeth is packed to the rafters with rich haggis and is more profound than Brian Cox grumbling the c word. No, not cheddar. Stop by solo whenever your day calls for the kind of day-making lunch that bread was invented for, or bring a friend for a caffeinated catch-up session over theatrical cheese pulls and a cookie or two. photo credit: Scaitboard video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Pause Unmute Food Rundown Macbeth This must-order, must-now-nap toastie is offal-rich, a touch oaty, and peppery with the sweet reprieve of caramelised onions. The generous slather of seedy mustard adds a kick of lunchtime energy that we’d cheat on espresso with any day. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley The Ham One This ham and cheese toastie makes a mockery of anything we’ve ever shoved in a Breville. Yes, predictably there is ham and cheddar present, but the tomato chutney is spicy, sweet, and had us contemplating another bus ride back into Deeney’s arms the next day. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Roberto The Bruce Eating this is sort of like witnessing a toastie’s LinkedIn profile. This is grown-up, professional sandwich territory—think roast chicken, leafy spinach, and tomato chutney, because Roberto cares about his vitamin intake. Cheddar is swapped out for light, mild mozzarella, and although we prefer the full-throttle cheese nature of Deeney’s other options, this is a solid alternative if you’re saving stomach space for the evening. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

London’s Best Cheese Toasties and Grilled Cheese - Eater London

"Like a Scottish patty melt, the Hamish Macbeth makes use of haggis to provide a spiced, meaty dimension to the classic toastie. The use of granary bread is a departure from the toastie norm but works well with the cheddar, caramelised onions, and smoked bacon. There’s mustard too for that all-important kick. Be warned, however: With spiced offal and cheese comes much richness." - Helen Graves

I often try to stop by here when visiting family in the area. I LOVE their Macbeth haggis toastie. It’s delicious - the sweet caramelised onions are a great touch and there’s always just the right amount of mustard to give it a kick! They also have a veggie version available. Great service, good music and nice vibes.

Nice cafe, with friendly staff. The vegetarian options are plenty if you want to stop over for a quick lunch. The cafe is dog friendly. Deeney's also has a variety of health smoothies, which is great for a hot summer's day. Highly recommend if you're passing by and need a quick bite to eat.

Fantastic - genuine gem. The Scottish breakfast offered here is second to none in London. The food is too quality and the there are a good variety of options available. Despite dining being downstairs the area is airy, light and spacious. Service was a little slow but I was there in a busy Saturday morning so I wouldn’t say it was unreasonably slow

Great place for a morning coffee to start your day. Was a short walk from where we stayed the staff was super friendly and drinks were delicious. I had the mocha and my wife had the flat white. We only had coffee so can’t speak on the food. Looked good tho.

I had the lady Macbeth (vegetarian “haggis” toastie) and I was pleasantly surprised! I asked for the stuffing to be put on the side in case I didn’t like it, but it was actually a really tasty nut-type roast! Really yummy :) the staff were also friendly and welcoming! the coffee wasn’t very good which is why I’m giving it 4 stars.

One of my favourite eateries in Leyton. The Lady Macbeth toastie and veggie fry up are absolutely delicious and every time I go or order online I struggle to choose what to have because it's all so good! Service is friendly.

I came here for lunch and got the spring salad takeaway! It sounded great but unfortunately it was super sickly sweet. The oranges along with the mango dressing really overpowered the other flavours in the salad. It was just really really sweet and pretty pricey at £11.50. The vibe was nice and I don’t want to judge the venue on a single salad but it really wasn’t good.
