Google
I tried #301 this time and it was really good 👍🏻 If you are seafood and cheese lover you should def try this one. Similar with cream risotto I tried in Korea. Reasonable price and various choices of appetizers as well! :) Ramen and chicken was good as well, you can make your own ramen 🍜 by choosing ingredients. It’s fun!

I come here for the Steam Halibut w/Black Beam Sauce all the times.... it tastes very delicious 😋. Recently, I noticed that the portion of the fish getting smaller n smaller... two or three pieces less compared to last time 😬...otherwise 5 BIG ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ all the way.... That being said, you got to try it here... It's very delicious. Dear "Deer Garden", adjust your portions back to normal n make it worth for the money and I will come back more for the same dish 🤤.

The soup noodle at this location is good. The Tom Yum soup is my favourite, with udon, sausage, and fish slice. Place is clean and big.

Google
very good noodle soup place! we've already been here a couple times already, and each time it's always delicious. I like the concept of the customizable soup base, noodles, and toppings. the soup bases are very good, especially the Thai Tom Yung that I got this time. however for the toppings, I think the seafood combo is better value because there is a wide variety rather than only two toppings. also, the hot milk tea is so nice and cozy every time :)

Google
It was a busy place. We were there around 2 pm on a weekday, the place was still packed. The service was great. The fish soup rice noodles were fine.

Google
Absolutely unacceptable service. We asked to split the bill using cash and debit, and instead of helping us, the first thing out of the server’s (Jason) mouth was, “How are you going to tip?” — not even a hello or explanation, just immediate concern about their tip. They refused to do the split because of that, which is ridiculous. We came to eat, not to be guilt-tripped or treated like a problem for wanting to pay fairly. It felt rude, greedy, and unprofessional. I’ve never had a restaurant make tipping a condition for service. Won’t ever return, and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who expects basic respect.

Yelp
Food was delicious and affordable. The store is large and was able to accommodate a large party. I love that your food comes with a free tea as well! I got the malay soup and it was delicious. It does already come with some vegetables but in hindsight I wish I added more, I thought seaweed would be like wakame inside the soup but it was a seaweed paper. Overall I had a great experience here!

Yelp
Good Hong Kong Style Western-ish food. Most of what is on the menu here is a unique Cantonese interpretation of classic Western dining offerings such as spaghetti and various mains served in different kinds of gravy over rice or various noodles including macaroni. I enjoyed the unagi with egg over rice. It was really good and hot. OK service that was friendly enough and unobtrusive. Nice decor, and plenty of parking out in front. We'd come back again anytime!

Yelp
The food was excellent, and this is why we flew all the way to Vancouver and Richmond, BC. The service was okay; it was very typical of Chinese culture. The vibe was good, not too busy.

Yelp
Great concept! You choose your soup, noodles, and 2 items, plus it includes a hot drink. My favorite is still the Malay Laksa Soup, but in this photo, I tried the Peanut Sauce and Chili Soup--it was pretty good too. The service was great, and the restaurant was clean. Definitely a great spot for noodle soup!

Yelp
Haven't been to Deer Garden in awhile and went there recently after repeatedly disappointed by the fish noodle chain at various food courts. We got the fish noodle with gingko broth and the tan tan broth. Both of the broth was richer than its food court competitor and the portion was decent. I was also delighted to see toppings you would not see usually, such as cuttle fish. We also ordered the chicken wings and beef tongue. The chicken wings were very delicious as they were quite crispy. I found the beef tongues to be rather salty and would have enjoyed them if they were grilled a bit more. The milk tea and coffee were a disappointment though. They weren't rich at all and probably tasted much more diluted than a lot of the HK cafes found in food courts. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and the fish noodles were comforting for me especially on a cold rainy day.

Yelp
We went to this place for early lunch on Saturday. Since the other location was closed, we chose this location for closest and their franchise menu. On that day, I ordered the beef brisket curry. It tastes great with the same favor that I love. I guess all the stuff from the old location works here now.

Yelp
Came here based on a friend's recommendation. My friend and I came on a weekday evening. The place was packed and there were no seats left. After a couple minutes of waiting in the waiting area near the front, a table was ready. My friend recommended me a dish from the menu and I got it because it sounded good on the menu. I ordered dish #301. The description of it was House special baked seafood/wild mushrooms/pork chop on rice. It contains cheese. Price was about 18 bucks. The dish was presented on its own casserole dish. It looked really good. Portion was slightly smaller than i imagined though. It had two different sauces on each side. On the right side, it contained scallops, steamed entire baby squid, and imitation crab meat. There were also stir fried mushrooms. The sauce was a creamy white cheese sauce. On the left side, it had orange colored creamy cheese sauce and 2 large slices of breaded pork chop. The bottom of the entire dish had baked rice. Taste wise, i didn't like it and regretted ordering it after the first bite. It needs improvement. I didn't like the taste of the sauces at all. The white sauce didn't have much flavor. The orange cream sauce had a weird cheesy flavor but not in a good way. The breaded pork chop was cooked well and was my favorite ingredient of the dish. Wish they added more of that instead. The rice at the bottom didn't mix well with the sauces, flavor wise. It's just a weird combination to me. As for the seafood, I didn't realize they were adding entire steamed baby squids. The head and tentacles in whole. I don't like squid cooked like that in general. The mushrooms, the crab meat, and the scallops were fine. They really need to change the cream sauces to something with more flavor that elevate the flavors of the ingredients. It also desperately needs some type of spices to liven up the flavors. But the combination of the dish as a whole did not mesh well. It was a strange tasting dish overall. At least the meat were cooked well. I'm still surprised I actually finished the whole dish at the end. I ordered a cup of cold lemon iced tea for $1.25 as well. It was tasty. No free refills though. Staff were friendly for the most part. They apologized when they accidentally dropped dishes in front of us. They thanked us for coming when I left the restaurant. They give free chili sauce paste if you ask for it. Wait time didn't take too long as we waited 12-15 minutes for 3 dishes. As a side note, Deer Garden also sells highly customizable hot noodle soup. My friend ordered their soup and really liked it. Next time I will try their soups. 2 out of 5 stars mostly because on the unpleasant food I ordered. Especially at 18 bucks, i expected a dish that's tastier and bigger. Please do not get dish #301 House special baked seafood for the reasons mentioned above. Next time I'll pick some of the recommendations by other Yelpers.

Yelp
The noodle soup here is so delicious. I loved being able to customize what was in my bowl (soup base, meat and veggies, and type of noodle). The tomato and pumpkin soup also comes with mushrooms, bean curd, cabbage, and cilantro/ green onion. They also have so many add on side dishes- the veggie spring rolls are excellent. This lunch special also comes with your choice of hot drink- I got milk tea and coffee mix. All in all, super tasty food, at a super affordable price. This is always a must for me when I visit the area!!

Yelp
This food is Cantonese style to a T. It's cash only. It's AMAZING. this was absolutely fantastic. This place is Cantonese food meant for Cantonese people. I do not think that any of my non-Cantonese friends will like the food here. The food is phenomenal and the prices truly cannot be beat. The service was fine, and so was the ambiance but the food is FANTASTIC. but seriously, if you are not Cantonese, you probably will not like this place

Yelp
Brought my friend there today. Have been there many times. This Alexander location is only place that has fresh halibut fish. Very delicious. I pick the original spicy one, because that's the most tasty one. They have non spicy halibut as well

Yelp
A great spot for a quick and easy meal! I love coming to deer garden whenever I'm feeling for a hearty bowl of noodles. You are free to pick your own soup base, noodles, and toppings depending on what you feel like eating. The price is decent, coming to $13.50 for a pretty large bowl of noodle soup and with a free hot drink (cold drink +$1.00). For a small eater like myself, I can eat it for 2 meals. My personal picks for toppings are the sliced beef brisket and diced pork jowl meat. I also like how there are "free" toppings -- mushrooms, bean curd, and napa cabbage. I don't think you can go wrong with coming to Deer Garden for a quick lunch or dinner. There isn't anything that is too crazy or special about the taste; rather, everything is pretty standard -- but that is one of the reasons that you keep on coming back. When you don't know what to eat, you can't ever go wrong with noodles!

Yelp
This place is perfect for you if you love Chinese rice noodle soup. They have a very versatile menu in which you can create your own noodle soup. Their most famous is the fish broth and it's amazing delicious and hearty. The noodle soup comes in large portion. They also have other sides and boba tea on their menu. It's a very family friendly place with something for everyone.

Yelp
Deer Gardens Alexandra location has a halibut fish set offered on the menu. I had the steamed black bean with chillis and a bowl of fish soup. This set comes with a bowl of steamed rice. 5/5 yelps. Ordered a side of choy sum with oyster sauce. 5/5 yelps. Very tasty!
google avatar

Yelp
They r famous for their halibut soup base noodle soup. They offer different variations of flavours of soup and toppings, perfect for fall/winter days. Restaurant is very simple but spacious. Service is pretty good for a hk style cafe. I like their drinks as well. They have happy hours menu which offers even better value than their regular menu items.

Yelp
Love coming here for some quick noodles especially when it's super good here! And it's not too expensive! I really like their noodles here. * Laksa noodle combo ($13.50) ~ I got the rice noodles with sliced beef brisket and pork neck. The soup base was rich and flavourful and a nice powerful kick! The fillings were a good amount as well. * Deep fried fish fillet ($3.75) ~ I always get this as a side. It's huge and crispy. The inside is soft and juicy and perfectly cooked. I love their tartar sauce they have to pair with it! * Also photographed fish cutlet curry rice combo ($12.75), tomato noodle combo ($13.50), Chicken wing ($3.75), Fish siu mai (3.75). Also cold drink (+$1). * 8/10 ~ love their laksa noodle combination here! Totally always get it whenever IM here! * 7/10 the portion is good for the price some sides weren't worth it I think the worth it item is their noodle combo not anything else. Don't get the chicken wings so not worth the price. Total bill before tip: $54.60 * 10/10 ~ info gathered , temperature check, paper menu, social distanced.

Yelp
I love coming here to eat the noodle soups. They provide lots of good options to put in the soups. The sides are also very tasty. Their deep-fried fish is done excellently; the fish is still very tender with the outside deep-fried layer being very crispy. Their ginger-fried chicken wings are also brilliantly done. Overall, I would definitely recommend Deer Garden Signatures and only this one (the other ones are not as good as the one on Alexandra Street).

Yelp
A chain for customizable soup noodles. This location is in the second floor of one of the small shopping centers on Alexandra Rd. You can't really see where the restaurant is from the road. The restaurant itself is mid-sized with a main room and some additional seating in the backroom. Doing decent business for Sunday lunch, but not packed when we arrived. Their menu consists of their signature soup noodles, and also some rice combos like curry rice or pork chop rice. They have little order sheets that you mark up to customize your soup noodles. You can pick the noodle type, soup base, and two ingredients for $12. You pay extra for each ingredient beyond the two, and the noodles come with some veggies included. With each noodle you can also order up to two small appetizers for $3.50 each. The chain is known for is fish soup base, so we had one bowl with the fish soup, thin rice noodles with sliced beef and fish. For the other bowl, we had Malaysian laksa soup base, wide rice noodles, with pork neck meat cubes and eggs. We also got chicken wings (3 per serving) and beef tongue for appetizers. The appetizers both tasted pretty good. Between the two noodle soups, I liked the laksa soup better. It was more flavorful and I like the slight spiciness to it. The fish soup base is by no means bad though. The soup noodles are served in big bowls, so the portion is pretty good.

A A.

Yelp
The order form of the noodle combo is not very kind. It shows the price of the combo in a large and bold font, so it looks like the price covers all of the categories on the form. But side dishes are not covered and prices are not noticeable. There might be explanations but those in English would be very small and barely legible like insurance conditions.

Yelp
By now we have practically gone to every single Deer Garden franchise in the metro Vancouver area. No shame though because they have bigger portions and more soup options than other customizable noodle shops in the city. This time we decided to go to Deer Garden Richmond since we were in the area. Grayson got his usual pumpkin and tomato fish soup wtih beef brisket and pork jowel meat. He usually doesn't get these proteins for his toppings but he decided to try something new. As always, there was an ample amount of meat and veggies in the bowl. Although he gets this soup, he isn't actually a fan of pumpkin so I usually get to eat the slices for him. I decided to try the coriander and century egg fish soup because I usually go with the pickled mustard and pepper fish one. I liked that there were a few pieces of century egg in it without having to choose it as one of my toppings. At first, I wasn't going to add the mustard greens as a topping but I love it too much so I couldn't resist. I noticed that when I order my noodles with beef, they usually put in less fish than they would otherwise so I probably won't get beef next time. Not that I'm complaining because there was quite a bit of beef in there and I could give some to Grayson but I prefer to have more fish.

Yelp
Price/quality (2/4): The quality seemed fine at first. The soup was quite nice (I ordered the one with watercress and almonds) and the toppings that came with the soup were great. However, I ordered some fish slices with my bowl of noodles, and one of them did not taste fresh at all. The other slices were fine though. Service (1/1): Incidentally, they got my order wrong--I ordered fish slices but they gave me fish balls. However, they were happy to correct their mistake free of charge, so I'm not taking a point off here. Would I come here again: Probably--I've always been a fan of Deer Garden, and hopefully there won't be any problems next time.

Yelp
Curry laksa with rice noodles - The restaurant is located upstairs. It was pretty late and we exhausted, which is probably why it took us a while to find the place. We shared a curry laksa with rice noodles. The laksa broth is really flavorful. probably one of the best laksa I've had in a long time. Rice noodles was cooked just right and it had the bouncy texture but not too stiff. They were generous with the toppings too. Each bowl only come with 2 types of toppings. We chose enoki cuttlefish balls and fish. Extra topping cost money, so that's why we only chose 2. With the portion and price. I think it's very fair. The ladies there were very nice even though we came near their closing hours. It was our last stop in Vancouver before heading back to the state so just wanted to stuff ourselves full before getting on the road. Anyway, I was a bit shocked by how many things on the menu. Though she wasn't very helpful in explaining their menu. I asked, "what's your guys most popular dish here?". The lady said, "all the dishes are popular." So helpful They seems to be more fluent in Cantonese than English. This seem to be a common theme in the area? Overall, the place was clean, service was alright.

Yelp
The server rushed to me and stood right beside me just before I sat down on the seat. It was odd. She wiped the table before we sat down but the table was still not clean. Because they did not give us the menus (they just gave us small paper sheets for checking off items and the pens), we asked them for the menus. However, they did not give us the drinks menu, the snacks menu, and the sandwiches menu which were all available on their website. The server just kept telling us rudely to use the QR code on the sheet before she went to get the menus for us. Does that means she did not want us to order the drinks and those food on those menus? The Minced Pork Cake and Preserved Mustard Leaves on Rice was inauthentic. The pork was not minced; the cake was just made of pork strips. The preserved mustard leaves were in big chunks which was difficult to chew. Also, they should not put the small plastic container for the soy sauce on top of the meat; the container should never be on the food. Furthermore, there was a strand of rice vermicelli on one piece of the vegetables which was unexpected. For the House Special Baked Seafood Wild Mushrooms and Pork Chop on Rice, the server had confirmed that there were no onions but they still gave us lots of onions in the dish. Also, the shrimps were not deveined, the scallops tasted bitter, and they gave us fried rice instead of white rice but we did not ask for the fried rice (because usually it costs more). Both dishes required 20 mins to cook according to the menu but one of them arrived about 10 mins earlier than the other. How were we supposed to eat together? Moreover, the milk tea was extremely sweet with tons of ice. In addition, they kept making unnecessary loud noises at the cashier area which was also the drinks area which made it difficult for nearby customers to talk (our table was across from them). The server grabbed our bill right away; they just wanted our money while not wanting to serve and cheated on the food. I would not return. P.S. For their COVID measures, they required the customers to wear masks but they gave each table shared pens for marking the paper sheets. They also only accepted cash. Clearly, they did not care COVID measures then why did they demand us to scan the menu and to wear masks?

Yelp
Cash only. Very satisfying and comforting food for a rainy day, although the server is a bit impatient. You can choose any combination of soup base, noddle and toppings. I chose the original fish soup, which is the most popular one. I like the texture of the thin rice noodle. Fish puff and cuttlefish balls are both pretty good. Two toppings are included, additional toppings are $1.5 each. The soup already have cabbage, mushroom and green onion in it. You opt-out any of these if you don't want. We enjoyed their Taiwanese milk tea too. Tora milk tea is pretty good. The meal come with Hong Kong style milk tea. $2 more if you want Taiwan style mike tea.

Yelp
Like the other Deer Garden Signatures, this location was BUSY. Once seated, we placed our orders and shortly after the soup was served piping hot and delicious! one tip is ... if you can help it ... try not to come at peak times such as noon for lunch and 6pm for dinner. The line-up can get ridiculously long!

Yelp
This place is definitely not as good as I remember it...or maybe I just didn't order the right thing this time around?? First, the restaurant is only accessible through an unmarked staircase that everyone who is local appears to know about. The wait staff are curt and fairly efficient. There's an enormous menu, but they are known for their 'build your own soup noodle" dishes, which is what we opted for. Their combo noodles with drink is a pretty sweet deal, especially since you can add a bubblea tea for only $2 more and the quality of the bubble tea is actually surprisingly good for a restaurant. I had the passion fruit calpis, which was just a tad too sweet, but the boyfriend really liked his coconut milk tea. I went with korean glass noodles with fish tofu and bak choy in malay laksa soup. Kind of eclectic but I think it worked. Major complaint was that there really wasn't a lot of fish tofu or bak choy. The soup base itself was pretty good. The boyfriend had thick noodles in the pepper fish soup wtih fish balls and greens, and the soup was just pure peppery taste! Would definitely not recommend that soup base. Overall, kind of underwhelming tasting food, but a lot of different options, which is nice, so perhaps it is possible to find something really good here. The bubble tea is actually worth it here.

Yelp
Great value for the portion for you get. We came here a late lunch around 3:30 pm it was quiet. We were seated immediately and the servers were really attentive ordering and refilling our tea which I appreciate. My boyfriend ordered the custom noodles set. He got laksa soup base with rice noodles and brisket and a ice milk tea. I believe the set is 11.95 and it includes a hot drink. For a cold drink you add $1. I ordered the mini set meal which is only available from 3-6pm or after 9pm. I got the fried pork chop laksa noodle soup with ice lemon tea. I was really surprised that the mini set was that same size as the custom noodle set. The set only cost around $9. The soup base was flavorful a little spicy and savory. There was lot of veggies in the soup. The brisket was nice and tender and fried pork chop was really crispy. I also enjoyed the milk tea it was creamy and I like that they used condensed milk in it. For a quick filling meal I definitely recommend this place. But remember this place is cash online.

Yelp
The portions were huge and the prices were so low! The food is like a choose your bowl and what is in it type menu. So you choose broth, noodles, and meat. They all looked really great! The service was seriously so fast even when this place was packed for dinner time. It is in the golden village complex on the second floor which is a little hard to find but so worth it when you do find it. Good luck!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my fave places for warm broth with rice noodles. You can feel the richness of the broth. The fish soup is so creamy and tasty. Every slurp warms the whole body so it's perfect during a cold winter day. You can choose your own broth, the type of noodles, 2 toppings and a drink for around 11$. Although the drinks weren't particularly amazing, they tasted quite good for a drink that comes with it. The service is quick and the staff is nice. For that price, the portion is very decent. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
There are lots of places that offer the mix-and-match fish soup noodles combos these days, but Deer Garden is one of my fave go-to places when I'm craving fish soup noodles. Portions here are huge, ingredients are fresh, and service is generally quick even when they are busy. I usually get the original fish soup with fish slices & luncheon meat, with an add-on side of deep fried fish filet. I find the soup broth here to be very flavourful & rich in taste. Also, the ingredients are always fresh & delicious! The combo comes with a hot drink. My fave is the hot Horlicks - not too sweet, while still thick & malty in taste. Parking is available in the complex but fills up fast close to lunch or dinner time.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for lunch ordering a dish of special French toast with butter and peanut butter as well as a baked pork chop on rice with honey tomato bacon sauce along with two cups of Hong Kong milk tea. We placed an order and waited for our food and drinks for a long time. Even though we asked a server to follow up on the order, the food and drinks came out slowly. The French toast with butter and peanut butter was good, but the baked pork chop on rice with honey tomato bacon sauce was not as well as the one that I had at other Hong Kong cafes. The chef should put some cheese on top of the dish, so the food would smell and taste better. Their rice should be cooked with some more eggs (probably the rice had a little bit of eggs), but the rice did not taste and smell good at all. The dish of baked pork chop on rice lost marks on the presentation, smell and flavour. Kind of disappointed at this dish. The pricing was average comparing to other Hong Kong cafes. The service was not good probably because it was Sunday and the restaurant was full of people. The servers and kitchen could not handle so many orders and customers at the same time. Overall, I may give 3.5 stars maximum and probably won't come back to this Hong Kong cafe as there are so many other ones in Greater Vancouver.

Yelp
Short origin story: Owner used to work with Cattle Cafe owners downstairs, and what I can only guess to be a fall out, decided to open up Deer Garden. This time they focused only on soups & noodle combo's. Which is very smart, and they do it well. If you compare just the soup/noodle combo's.. Deer Garden is a 2 thumbs up, where as Cattle is a sore thumb. Deer Garden does their soup base well (with no MSG), and they have great standard fillings before your choice of goods. They have this wonderful soft beancurd/tofu, and tons of vegetables. So delicious!! My favorite is their malay laksa, with choice of beef ball, and fish tofu, or tofu puff :) They also have a small selection of sides for $1.50 (chicken wings, fried tofu puff, etc..). But for the amount of food in your one bowl of noodles, I might suggest you skip out on the sides first. Due to the vicinity of Richmond, and their arched rivals located directly below them, they have to be price driven. Therefore, their nommy noodle combo with drink comes to ~$8. A dollar extra for a cold drink, 2 dollars extra to upgrade to a special drink. Parking can be more troublesome than other places. But I recommend atleast a try, especially if you're craving for something soupy and noodly. Walk up the stairs past Cattle. It's worth those extra steps! Mmmm Malay Laksa with Udon! mmmm! Come before 6PM to avoid long lines! and yes, this is a CASH ONLY establishment.

Yelp
Great place for customizable noodle soup. Start out by picking a soup base, 2 toppings, noodles, and drink. My favorite combination is: Malay laksa soup with flat rice noodles, sliced beef, fish tofu, and an iced milk tea
google avatar

Carmen X.

Yelp
Deer garden ~$12 Base: tomato and pumpkin Noodle: flat rice noodles (wrong noodles than what I wanted) Toppings: speciality sausage + pork intestine 9.5/10 I prefer sweeter bases so I enjoy the tomato and pumpkin because you can get those toppings for free too!! Pumpkin wasn't very sweet but it's not in season I believe Speciality sausage is already but you only get sausage which sucks Pork intestine is really good in my opinion I got the wrong noodles but that was still chill Portions are very big!! Drinks : Free hot drink +$1 for cold +$2 for speciality I got taro smoothie because it's the most expensive drink (smoothie slush or milkshake is ~$4.95) 8.5/10 it's really smooth and creamy but it's very rich and sweet and I couldn't finish it

Yelp
In my Canada visit, this was definitely my favorite soup noodle spot. It was efficient in service and offered a good price. I ordered the tom yum soup base and added sliced beef and choy sum. I also got a side order of the beef tongue and a cold lemon tea. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the portion was large. I love the way the napa cabbage soaks up the soup while you're eating. It was definitely enough to be shared. I thought the tom yum soup base was good and was what I would have expected. The service was quick because if you're ordering noodles, you order on a piece of paper. I thought that was a smart choice for the restaurant. It makes the process easier and quicker. The servers were kind and quick. I really enjoyed my time here.

Yelp
Custom bowl of noodles ($8.50) - 4/5. Chaochou style dried fish and minced pork fish soup with ho fun (flat rice noodles), beef tendons and cuttle fish balls in addition to the cabbage and mushrooms that come standard with the soup. Overall, this was a slightly saltier broth, but very flavorful! Generous portions of beef tendons, but only three or four cuttlefish balls. Definitely like that I can pick and choose what I want, this definitely hit the spot for my noodle craving. Two of my friends got the tomatoes & pumpkin fish soup, both of them loved it because it was a slightly sweeter broth. If I'm in the area, I'll stop by again to try this out!

Yelp
Amazing deals and big portion. $8.95 for a noodle and $2 for a drink which comes $10.95 ($11.50 with tax and extra charge for pearls). You can choose variety of soup flavour, topping, noodle and drink (bubble tea or milke tea on the menu). My friend said this place is good and she waa right. Tomato and pumpkin flavoured soup was light and bit sour and tasted even better with chilli oil. I saw a lot of people ordering either Laksa soup or fish broth and they all look good. Please note cash only.

Yelp
Cash Only. We were suppose to eat here but we don't have Canadian dollars so we end up next door.

Yelp
If you're looking for ramen alternatives and a quick eat and go spot, give Deer Garden a try! Grown from its initial Richmond store, Deer Garden is a now a metro Van chain, serving many who seek authentic fish broth chinese noodles Creamy fish broth is stewed for hours on end, and customizable to your own tastes with many variations of flavours to choose from Toppings and types of noodles are at your command. With the tick of your pen and flash of impulse, your own noodle is made quickly. Don't eat it too quick though, the bowl is steaming hot With a personal liking to their laksa broth, parsley with century eggs, and watercress fish soup, I always pair the soup base with beef tendon It's never a disappointment here, just gotta cope with the prompt Chinese service. Coupled with a glass of HK styled milk tea (less sweet), you've got yourself one heck of a meal! Enjoy

Yelp
Slight edge to the Fraser Street location, but good noodles at a decent price. My go-to-order is the Malaysian Laksa soup and fish filet and Fish cake toppings. I get it with the Korean Sweet Potato noodles which has got to be the most perfect carb. Portion is very generous. I've only "super-sized" an extra order or noodles on a few occasions. It's a steal for an extra $1.50! The noodles come with a free regular beverage, but I always upgrade to the Mango Slushie for $2 with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for $1. The hot black tea with Aloe is also very tasty and surprisingly sweet. $4 spicy fries are also a tasty starting appetizer. Only a couple options for vegetarians. All the soups have a meat component so you would just substitute with hot water which is still surprisingly good (and really good with extra hot sauce).

Yelp
Customizable soup noodles. I had fish soup with thick rice noodles. Large bowl filled with lots of delicious stuff. Healthy alternative to cooking at home. Also ordered baked pork chop on rice - very good particularly it is made in a noodle shop.

Yelp
Great place to have a big bowl of noodles in your favourite fish soup. Be warn, this restaurant is always packed all day long. People recognize this spot as a really good value especially the locals in Richmond. It's a little difficult to find Deer Garden first time around as it's hidden on top of Cattle Cafe on Alexandra Rd. I wouldn't bother parking on the second floor because there will be no spots available, trust me. They specialize in noodle soup combos in which you choose your soup base, 2 toppings, noodles, coffee or tea, and side dishes cost $1.50 each. If you want more toppings, it'll cost you an extra loonie for each. They have a step-by-step order form in Chinese and English, so it's pretty easy to order. The more difficult part is to decide which combinations to order as the choices are quite extensive. I ordered the watercress and almond base with brisket / cuttlefish balls and vermicelli noodles. The brisket was tender and thinly sliced and the cuttlefish balls were marvellous with a little bounce to them. The fish broth was rich and flavourful but I found the laksa to be more tasty then the watercress/almond. The soup base also contained some dried bean curd and veggies. The cilantro with each bowl was a perfect touch and gave it an amazing fragrance. The soup base didn't smell fishy at all (really!) which is a good indication of the quality of their cooking. I have to say this style of noodle combo is very similar to Cattle Cafe and the differences between them are not very noticeable. The service might be lacking to some patrons but it's standard to Asian restaurants. The place is always packed and I can't blamed the staff to be a bit impatient as they are always hurried and running around the place with big bowls of noodles. It's quite a balancing act as I see them carrying 4 big steaming bowls of noodles avoiding customers, tables and chairs. They offer other dishes as well like steamed rice and curry combos. Did I mention the soup base contains no MSG! The portions are humongous, some may not be able to finish the whole bowl. You can always share with me anytime. No MSG, big portions, great value, customizable and costing $7.95 certainly deserves a solid 4 star.

Yelp
This is the birthplace of the local fish soup noodle craze that blew up to the point where every other Chinese restaurant is seemingly trying to do the same thing. Don't be fooled by the bandwagoners -- Deer Garden is still the best in its category in town -- for their signature soup noodles, which is ultimately because of their broth, really. It is essentially an HK cafe that specializes in a variety of fish broth noodles, with their offerings expanded to include laksa, Thai tom yum goong, plain chicken broth, Szechuan chili peppercorn and dan dan (chili peanut sauce). Love that diners can customize their order by broth, "toppings," noodle type and drink. Their menu outside of noodles is not bad either. Had the baked pork chops on rice; nice to see that they use better than average quality meat for an HK cafe -- pretty lean meat with little in fatty scraps. Their steamed rice combos are also pretty decent -- tasty and reasonably priced at $6.95 for the rather large portions. As time went on I must say that the quality has gone downhill when it came to the soup noodles in particular. Consistency of the broth is rather hit and miss -- bland on some visits, ok on others; sometimes super salty. Still remember those early days of the $7.50 noodle combos when I was a fan, versus $8.50 now, meanwhile the topping portions have shrunken with every successive visit. And on top of it all, I was not pleased to discover that they also removed one of my faves - squid balls - off the menu on my last visit. All this downgraded them from a 4 to now 3 stars for me. Despite the things to bitch and complain about, this place still has a firm hold on its clientele, only because no one else has done better than them. Not gonna deny it -- I would still be going back, but only until the next superior challenger shows them up.

Yelp
The times I've made my way up here, it has usually been for their homey tasting noodle soup bowls. It's almost as comparable to the noodle soup bowls @ Cattle Cafe (right below Deer Garden), however, I find that Deer Garden fills your bowl to the very top with hot soup and ingrediants, especially more veggies are given. I always go for the vermicelli noodles with luncheon meat (for a seared kick of salty spam) and enoki mushroom (which they cut up and don't just give a huge chunk for you to knaw at). Deer Garden is also much bigger than Cattle Cafe but I do enjoy the look of Cattle more. Regardless, a good place to enjoy a hot, made-to-your-fixings noodle soup place. Also, if it's really busy, and it usually is, don't fret because take-out is great too. They separate the noodles, so by the time you drive home the moddles aren't super soggy. Slurp on noodle lovers!

Yelp
THE CONCEPT: You pick a soup of your choice, pick the kind of noodle/pasta that you like, choose 2 toppings (more available for extra $), and voila! Here's the soup noodle tailor made just for you. THE EXECUTION: Very well done and close to perfection. However, if you choose any of the variations of the fish broth, there will be some fishy smell which is not for everybody. If you absolutely do not like the fishy smell/taste order the chicken broth. OTHER MENU ITEMS: If you are not up to a bowl of soup noodle, no problem. There are many other options such as cafe foods like baked dishes or grilled steaks. Sandwiches, burgers or the likes are also available. But why are you there if you are not ordering their signature -- your custom made soup noodle? Prices are reasonable. Portions are large. Service is good. Will definitely return and recommend.

Yelp
Taste: 5/5 Service: 2/5 But the taste is a heavyweight, so I'll say it averages out to a solid 4/5. We came at 6:00 on a Saturday evening, and only had to wait 5-10 minutes. Service was mediocre (a little brusque, hence the 4 stars), but boy, I will be dreaming of the food for days to come. You get your own noodle custom order form, where you can tick off what kind of broth, noodles, and toppings you want. I ordered the fish and minced pork broth, thick rice noodles, with spam and fish tofu. The broth was incredible! So flavorful and filling. I also had the desert wings with ginger, and they were crunchy, juicy, and packed with flavor. I highly recommend getting an extra side for just 1.95. The atmosphere was warm in a boisterous, friendly kind of way. There were many families with young children that were a little loud at times, but it was nice in a noisy family dinner kind of way. I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Excellent noodle soup! My friend suggested the original fish soup base with thick rice noodle. It was perfect combination with the topping cilantro!! I am a cilantro lover!! Lemon ice tea is always good. My friend had HK style milk tea was tasty too! No doubt this place was full before lunch time on random Friday.

Yelp
I love this new trend of having fish soup as the base for noodle soup. I've always loved fish soup growing up and love fish congee so it's surprising that it's only become a thing. You order by ticking checkboxes of all the things you want - soup base, noodle, toppings. As well, you can pick an appetizer and a drink. They have different soup bases other than fish like tom yum or tomato. The portions are HUGE so definitely share them. The broth is just so warming and comforting. It feels like a warm hug from the inside that just makes you smile. The noodles as well have a very nice texture that complement the soup very well. But if noodles or fish soup are not your thing, this place has a lot of other dishes you can get at a Cha Chan Teng / HK Cafe like curry or baked pork chop rice. Both of which were really good. The curry was very flavorful and better than other places I have had it but the baked pork chop rice can definitely be found better elsewhere.

Yelp
I've recently ordered some noodles, fried chicken wings and Cajun chicken here, everything tasted as expected except the chicken wings which had an odd not so fresh taste that made it difficult to finish. I recall having the same experience with their chicken wings in the past and thought it might have improved - but nope. The noodle soups are fine but I really wouldn't recommend anyone getting the wings. I hope the owner tries to find a better supplier or ensure freshness by trying the wings themselves at random - wouldn't want the customers getting sick from not so fresh chicken!
