Dee's

I've been eating at and ordering from Dee's longer than I can remember. The restaurant is closed now, but fortunately we can still order takeout. Consistently delicious! If I had to pick one single item on the menu to recommend, it is definitely the eggs rolls. Crispy on the outside, robustly filled, amazing flavor. Other favorites include the twice-cooked pork and garlic chicken.

We have been customers of Dee’s for 20 years so when we decided on Christmas day to order delivery they were our first choice. We knew the wait time would be longer than usual but we knew when our fresh delicious meal arrived it would be worth it. Unfortunately our food never came, our calls were never answered and we are very disappointed.

What happened to my favorite place for YEARS? Dee's was literally the best around for so long... something happened after they closed the dining room. The food is now just OK when it used to be amazing, even for delivery. Got our order just now - it was on time, which was great - but no mustard or sweet sauces for the eggrolls and crab rangoon. I had yakitori - noodles were mushy and no flavor in the sauce. We also got some sweet and sour, which was ok, but it used to come with big veggies, and meat in a separate container to mix at home for the best presentation. Now, all pre mixed, small veggies, and a soggy mess. Very sad about this once great place.

Food was forgotten and rushed. Everything burnt or watery. Sesame chicken had no flavor and was in very watery sauce check video. Rice looked like it has meat in it and a bite taken out of it. Manager did not really care.

Ordered for pickup. The egg drop soup was super watery, and the crab Rangoon’s were terrible. The Mongolian beef was pretty good but that was the only redeeming part of the meal. Will not be ordering from here again.

Probably some of the best Chinese takeout I’ve had. The lemon sauce on the lemon chicken was so delicious! Plus quick service and very friendly staff. Great experience!

Dee’s has been a family tradition for almost 40 years. A frequent date night for my parents in the 80s transitioned into a destination for the whole family, even after we moved to the western suburbs. I have nearly 30 years of memories from Dee’s. The orange chicken, the way they would use rubber bands to make the chop sticks easier for the kids, the savory pot stickers. Excellent food, amazing service, and very accommodating of peanut allergies. Go check it out!

Service food food and more food! The hot and sour soup is the best in the entire city of Chicago. The egg Rose, magnificent the choice cook pork is outstanding and Mongolian beef is the very best.

Better to get the sushi than the Chinese. Dee's has both Chinese and Sushi menus. It makes you think about the "Jack of all trades, master of none" phrase. Here it's only like that to an extent. The sushi is pretty damn good and not expensive for as much as you can get. A lot of good stuff but mostly the sushi is the only thing you ever need to try, because that's what it's known for. It seems most people are complaining about the Chinese food in the reviews. The obvious reason why to get sushi! Last time they were only doing carryout. We got a couple rolls. It's about $6 for each. The first one was the Avocado Maki. It's basic looking. The avocado was creamy and fresh, so it was about as good as you can get for this. Rolls are also a good size and filling. The other one was the Oshinko Maki. Also good. It has a vegetable that's almost like a radish. The oshinko is pickled so it tastes vinegary. As for the Chinese food, I haven't tried any yet but maybe some day. This doesn't seem like it's worth it by what I've heard about it. For the price it's pretty good. It seems like the sushi is better than the Chinese food, according to many who have eaten here. The rolls are pretty big and there's lots to choose, from either the basic ones or more expensive specialties.

The best ever. This is the best Chinese restaurant on the entire planet and I would give anything to have more Dees restaurants aroound.

We ordered the general T's, beef & broccoli, and crab Rangoon. The meat was soggy and mealy and the crab Rangoon filling was a weird crab potato mixture that was pretty flavorless. It was so much more expensive than our tried and true delicious place we usually order from, so this one is definitely a bust.

Mongolian chicken Mongolian beef the best Mongolian chicken and beef in Chicago service is fast on time. Amazing.

Holy duck! Shut the front door - then slam the back door, bolt the side door, close the attic and the cellar! After 40+ years of dining, I've finally found Duck Nirvana! Not only did Dee's Crispy Duck live up to its billing as "crispy", but it was wonderfully flavorful, butter tender, juicy and plentiful. Dee explained how they lovingly massage the duck, over and over, with spices before a quick sous-vide like preparation prior to her signature flash-fry. What you're left with is simply perfection, all for a mere $17. Sure, her Egg Rolls ($6) are amazing - massive, infant-sized blisters of wonderfulness that are artfully crammed with large pieces of shrimp, chicken and vegetables. And you won't find one drop of grease on the plate. Not to be outdone, the Shrimp Toast ($7) was enough to share with our four-top as we dined outside on the back patio during a recent summer evening. I'm pretty sure our friends enjoyed their meals as well, chasing the huge plates down with two bottles of silky, unfiltered sake - but I was too focused on my duck to really pay attention. Enjoy!

Stopped in here to grab some take out, and thought it was pretty good. Our take out was ready on time, so that is always a good start. We ordered the crab rangoon, orange chicken, a yellowtail roll and a salmon roll to split between two people. Crab Rangoon - 5 in the order, stuffed super full, these were really good Orange Chicken - interesting because it was a cut up chicken breast and not individually fried, could have been spicier but still good - probably should have gotten a second rice with this Sushi Rolls - these were good, 6 pieces per roll, not as good as specifically sushi places, but since this is mainly an entrees place, I wasn't expecting too much. Rice was a little much to fish portion, but the fish was good. It doesn't rank as high with me as some of the other places I've had, but still good food and a nice variety on the menu. Portions also weren't overwhelming, we probably could have ended up adding the egg rolls and still eating them.

The worst Chinese garbage I have ever had. Fried rice, Mongolian chicken, and garlic shrimp.. so dry and flavorless it was like eating sand in the Sahara desert. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of salt.70 bucks for that miserable excuse for food. I would not serve this crap to my worst enemy .. even the homeless who live on my sidewalks threw it in the gutter. Run, don't walk away.. and save your money.

I absolutely love Dee's. I discovered about 20 years ago when I lived over in LP and would often eat there or order from there. Living a bit further west it's not always easy to get over there for pick up and not easy to get delivery. I was so delighted when it popped up last Sunday as delivering to my area - I jumped on it and ordered pot stickers (they introduced me to them and they are the best); crab Rangoon (yum) and Szechuan chicken. I've tried other things on the menu but I always go back to that because it's the best I've ever had. It was here in about an hour which I thought was great and it was exactly what I wanted and have been craving. The food here is really top notch. I'll be moving soon and this is one place I will really miss.

Food: meh Service: n/a - carry out was ready on time After reading the reviews I was super excited to try this spot but ended up underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed. I found the food to be just ok, definitely nothing special and not worth the rating this place has. I had lo mein noodles and they weren't very flavorful and the chicken didn't taste very fresh. My boyfriends chicken dish also didn't seem overly fresh and the breading/sauce was a bit bland.

Nothing to write home about. I got delivery, which came sooner than estimated, so I can't comment on the in-restaurant service. My girlfriend and I ordered the crab rangoon, dumplings, mongolian beef, and twice-cooked pork. Initial impression, I wish the entrees came with more sauce; I like to pour sauce onto my white rice. Otherwise, the entrees are good; just not great. The dumplings were tasty. However, I did not care for the crab rangoon too much. They were doughy and did not come with duck sauce, which is necessary in my book. Also, instead of a creamy filling, it was more dry. Again, not bad tasting; just not great.

Long wait for delivery. Ordered two dishes, Mushu, and Chicken Snowpeas. The Chicken was breaded(!) and came with a SMALL rice container 3/4 full. For a pricey Chinese place, an aggravating disappointment.

Rude hostess or desk person who would not admit or grant that she made a mistake. No owners or manager on site. Just arrogant rude behavior caused us to say we would not return ever again.

My new fave place for takeout since moving to Chicago! I've gotten the sesame chicken twice now. Delivery through grub hub was on time, and the food was still hot! I love supporting the locally owned business. The owner even made bento boxes for the hospital workers during the height of the pandemic such an awesome place!

Dee's is my favorite Chinese in Chicago! We have been eating here for years and it never disappoints. We recommend it to everyone when they come to town and they always agree that Dee's is the best. Highly recommend!

This place has everything that I like about Chinese restaurants. Friendly staff, an endless supply of white rice, and they will roll your Moo Shu pancakes for you. Great location and huge portions to boot. Dee is what makes this place great. She makes you feel like family

Came highly recommended from a friend, so based on that and the reviews, they can't be all bad -- but Dee's was not for me. Their Mongolian chicken had a thick, mealy cornstarch coating unlike I've ever experienced. I don't plan to order from Dee's again.

Dee! You gave me my most favorite meal during a recent trip to Chi city. Everyone was beyond nice from the hostess to our server and it created the most joyful time! After ordering 2 rolls all to myself. I decided to needed to slow my roll and not order an appetizer. But, when I saw the hot and sour soup come out for some of my friends, my eyes got real wide and they asked me if I wanted to try a bite... Nope. I'll get my own. And I slurped it down. Fellow Yelp friends, this is was the best hot and sour soup I've ever in my life. The consistency was perfect and the spice was just enough to make me want to drink my beer a little quicker... which made for a better night all around. My favorite roll ordered was the Mexican Roll. With tuna, cilantro, cucumber, avocado, jalapeño, masago, spicy mayo, and lime it was a unique (and quite filling) experience. Nobody (not even myself) better never ever tell me to slow my roll at Dee's.

Absolutely amazing food and service. They are one of the best in Chicago. I try to order from Dee's at least once a week. There is such a large variety of meal options to choose from, I have a hard time deciding what to order sometimes. Although there have been some entrees that I like better than others, everything I've ever tried has been really great.

The quality of fish (both cooked and raw) is the poorest I've been served in quite some time. The noodles are soggy as oatmeal and drenched in oil. The chicken was rubbery, inedible and a color and texture of which I have never experienced in all of my deliveries and travels. The name of this restaurant is a good indicator of the grade of food you will receive. Eat at your own risk.

I am posting my first review because that's how awful this food was. All I need to say is, the crab rangoon tasted and smelled like canned tuna. The rice tasted like plain rubber. The best tasting thing was the fortune cookie. 0/10 Below is a photo of whatever was in the "crab rangoon"

So I have been going to this place since the 90s... long standing customer. Food has always been good and I like to support local restaurants during this crazy time. However, I'm not impressed with the takeout situation, especially the young girl working last night. When ordering their steamed dumplings, they are placed in a biodegradable brown container that peels off onto the dumplings. Paper stuck to the dumplings which is a huge turn off. This has happened before but I remembered to say something this time. I had called to ask them to put in wax paper so they wouldn't stick to container and was flat out told no. And kinda rude. Seriously? They use the paper for other apps. I'm not impressed, especially paying the prices they charge. Im going to check out other places and buyer beware on the dumplings. Too bad.

Used to love this place, and decided to order again after a few years. Yuck. I ordered Mongolian beer, Szechuan string beans and hot and sour soup. The Mongolian beef was sooo salty and covered in a disgusting amount of cornstarch, the string beans were extremely oily, and the hot and sour soup was too thick and lacking flavor. Won't order again. Only got two stars because delivery was quick and suppose it was edible.

Ate with a large group: friendly, attentive service and gorgeous interior. Very good: egg roll, General Tsao Chicken (not spicy, quite vinegary), Tofu and Broccoli. Skip: Crab Rangoon (too cream cheese, nothing else).

Ordered quite a few things here and was excited to try all the food, as it looked good! I was really disappointed that the mangolian beef was not beef after all but pork in both beef dishes that we ordered. It was also extremely salty. Lucky for me, I don't have dietary or religious restrictions, but I highly dislike the taste of pork. The only good thing was the egg rolls.

Dees was our favorite Chineese restaurant and we spent our Christmas eve's there every year for at least 27 years.. The sit down portion of the restaurant closed last year but remained open as a carry out. This year we ordered carry out and returned home. Not the same but the meal was excellent as always.

The best take out sushi in Lincoln park! The staff is so friendly! Your order is always ready when they tell you it is going to be. Ordering online is so simple and user friendly. Whenever I'm craving sushi but I don't want to go sit down to eat it, I'll always order Dees!

Terrible service. I ordered online and 55 minutes Later they cancel the order online. I called and was told they were so busy they automatically cancelled All the online orders. No one called to let me know the order had been cancelled.

There are 3 things I miss ever since I moved from Florida to Chicago- the sun, a good deli, and good Chinese food. I've tried many different Chinese restaurants, and haven't had much luck finding a good one, although I've settled for Yen's. This evening I had the depressing task of spending hours taking GMAT practice tests....just the perfect way to end the weekend (note: major sarcasm). I had a craving for some good Chinese food and figured I would order in Dee's Mandarian after reading all of the review! Thank you to all the yelpers who reviewed Dee's because I have finally discovered a Chinese restaurant that I love! I had the sesame shrimp and it was absolutely delicious- so good that I'm already looking forward to tomorrow' night's leftovers. I definitely plan on visiting Dee's soon to check out the atmosphere I've reading about. Now if only I could find a good deli and get some sun in Chicago?

The food was just okay. I had high hopes for Dee's since neighbors talked it up. Lee's on Diversey is still my go-to place for Chinese delivery

It has been several months since I dined in at Dee's. Although I have always enjoyed my dining experience there, lately I've been opting for dining at home and ordering for delivery. My usual order: **Eggrolls - generously stuffed with chicken, shrimp and veggies **Crab rangoon - tasty although i think they might be a little overstuffed **Sweet and sour shrimp - yummmm **Brown Rice - a nice option for those of us trying cut down on white rice Occasionally, I'll switch it up and go for one of the chow mein dishes. Yum! They usually say "within the hour" for delivery time. Usually I don't have to wait longer than half an hour. Until I have reason to try and find another Chinese restaurant that delivers to my neck of woods, I'm sticking with Dee's!

This place is great. I have been here several times now and every time it is a treat. The first time we came here, there was a snow storm. Once we were seated the waitress pulled a heater next to our booth to warm us up. I love how they always start with giving you a warm towelette to wash your hands and the staff is always amazing and friendly. My favorite dish is their veggie stir fry noodles. For a noodle dish, the ingrediants are so fresh and even though it is mixed with a sauce it is amazing how light they keep it.

For many years Dees was my go to spot. I moved further away and picked up new spots. Feeling nostalgic I ordered it again, but finished waxing for the old days. The hot and sour soup was very boring and all I really got flavor wise was chicken broth. Pork gyozo were very bland as well and they didn't come with any sauce. Sesame chicken was about what I remembered. I wouldn't order again unless I'm feeling really in the mood for it.

Our first experience at Dee's was good. We didn't order too many things - and actually one of the people we were with wasn't a vegetarian like the rest of us, so the sharing options were limited. First I was kind of shocked that we went here on a Friday night and the place was quite empty. Usually that's a cause for concern. At that point we were already there, so we just decided to stay. I hate to generalize, but like most Asian restaurants, the service was spotty. In fact, at first, the waitress was just plain rude. I'm given Dee's the benefit of the doubt, because around half-way through, maybe her mood changed or what not, but she started behaving decently. The points Dee's gets is for the food. We started with spring rolls - they were good. So the eggplant was great. Definitely our favorite entree. The chow mein noodles were just OK. I think they put the noodles themselves under the veggies and sauce and they came out already soggy. Overall great food. Next time we go, I'd want to try some additional veggie entrees. Looking forward to it.

Everything I've had here is great / sushi and Chinese! Spider roll is great, Kung pao chicken is the perfect amount of spice. Crab Rangoon is the best I've ever had. Dee herself is so friendly and always welcomes you with a warm smile!

Dee's has been our favorite for Chinese for over 20 years. The food is great, and the service level is top notch. We love them so much that after we moved away from the city, we drive in from the suburbs for pick up. Dee is a true hostess. She held our baby for us so we could eat in restaurant, and now 18 years later, she continues to take care of us when he drives in to pick up take out.

Sizzling Rice Soup is on point. Owner is a sweetheart and made us feel like family. Everything was wonderful. Will definitely be back.

Sadly an old favorite goes South. Loved this place for over twenty years only to spend over $200 tonight and be beyond disappointed. In fact, I was down right pissed off. Service and food both ridiculously bad. Don't wast your money!

I have been on the hunt for good Chinese food in Chicago and this place hit every mark! The food is fresh, delicious, and flavorful. We got the veggie fried rice (which a good mix of veggies), sesame chicken, and the shrimp mu shu - all of which I would highly recommend!

Been coming here for years- there food is absolutely the best!!! There is nothing comparable to the outstanding favors . Egg rolls are a must with your order.

This is the best Chinese and Japanese food high-quality and gluten-free is never a problem. Dees has now slimmed down to carry-out only but they never cut corners on quality.

Come for the nice people who work here! Good prices and massive portions with very standard fare. Great drinks as well. We liked the scallion pancake a lot.

There was a time when everything at Dee's was great. Well, I am hoping that my take out Sunday was off because the head cook decided to take Sunday night off. The egg drop soup was tasteless. The sliced beef with veggies had very stringy beef. Not a good quality. Both that dish and the chicken dish had veggies that were extremely over cooked. I'm used to fresh flash stir fry where the veggies are still brightly colored. These were way overlooked. And the taste of both dishes just wasn't the same. Dee needs to get back in the kitchen.

I have to provide an update for Dee's because they deserve it! My husband and I order delivery from here frequently now. The girl who answers the phone is SUPER nice, I keep forgetting to get her name! But when we order sushi, she always notes that my man has a serious shellfish allergy and it is all over the order ticket and receipt- can never be to careful - thank you for that!! Big fan of the Mexican roll. Get it. The Sesame Chicken is SO GOOD. Get that, too.

Back up to 4 stars because all the issues we had in the past had been fixed, this is practically the only place we order Chinese from, and they have the best egg rolls and Mongolian beef around. Just a bit expensive for Chinese food but we still love it

So a part of me wants to tell everyone I know about this place, and a part of me doesn't want to tell anyone, in hopes that it keeps its secret charm. Dee, the owner, is there everyday, and she has to be in the running for the sweetest and most generous restaurant owner in the city. The fact that she has been in business for almost 40 years says more about this place than I can with 10,000 words. Come here instantly, but never tell anyone.t

Normally this would much higher because the food is excellent. The delivery is poor. Using Grubhub, and checking the receipt (they sent the restaurant the right order), the last two orders have been wrong: Tonight, Our order was missing shrimp shumi and rice noodles. Last time we ordered from them, the rice noodles were missing and plum sauce. As fans of Chinese food know, these are key things. Well, no matter what the cuisine, you want your apps. Hope they get that delivery fixed.
