7 New Things To Do & Eat In San Francisco This Week - June 8, 2021

"While Popoca continues to crowdsource funds for a new brick-and-mortar, they’re temporarily serving their fantastic Salvadoran food out of Degrees Plato in Oakland’s Laurel District. Stop by on Sundays (11am-8:30pm) and Mondays (3-8:30pm) for pupusas, quesadillas, achiote-braised pork, and more." - julia chen 1

Google
Huge selection of beers on tap and many more varieties available in cans. I had a stout the name of which has escaped me. Definitely a sipping beer. Not one to hurry.

Google
I like visiting Degrees Plato Tap Room; They offer a great selection of top beers, both locally and from various regions, and the yard seating area is spacious. It’s the perfect spot for grabbing a bite or a few drinks with friends. The service is good, and there’s usually plenty of street parking available. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area

Google
Great place to grab a drink, some Mexican food and see some live music! The Westones were amazing. Will definitely be back.

Fanny Garcia

Google
I was there on a very warm and beautiful day at their outdoor beer garden. You order inside and then bring your drinks outside. Great place if you like to try different beers. They have both draft and large selection of canned drinks. They also have snacks that are vegetarian friendly!

Christopher Beaty

Google
My local watering hole. Always a great selection of both canned and draft beer. The food here always smacks, don’t sleep on the torta milanesa de pollo! Can’t go wrong with a chopped cheese either.

Google
Such a gem! Great selection of beer ! Fast and super nice customer service . They have garden/ backyard great open area . I love it ! Great selection of bites as well . My next fav beer place ! Check it out

Google
Love this place, especially pleased to have something like this in the Laurel. Great beer selection. Awesome bottles to purchase and take with. While I haven't tasted the food yet, the menu does look exciting. It would be great if the bar benches had a foot rest. It gets very uncomfortable after about 10 minutes. It's a shame because sitting at the bar is fun. The bar staff are super knowledgeable and friendly. You just have to deal with aching buttocks to have a beer there. Love the communal tables. And it would be great if they had WiFi. That would be my afternoon office if that were the case.

Yelp
I have wanted to go here for some time! I know they have great events, loved the relaxed vibe, murals, friendly service, and beer fridges with beer from all kinds of established, emerging, and BIPOC breweries. Had a beer and purchased a six-pack. Sat outside and remarked often about how chill, relaxing, and welcoming Degrees Plato was. If you love beer, chill outdoor space, food (we didn't get any but saw people eating happily), check it out!

Yelp
Good selection of beer. The staff was only two at the front. It took some time to get my beer. I was t sure if it was going to be given to me at the table or at the bar. Since it never came and my friend got hers right away, I got up and asked. The guy said I was supposed to get it but they forgot. The burritos were alright. Something I can make at home. Pretty generic. The crowd was not diverse at all. Most likely will not return.

Itziat V.

Yelp
I went here today and the lady that was working there was rude and had nasty attitude! The guy that served us was nice though!!

Laura D.

Yelp
Good food, great beer selection, very cool concert series going on. My issue is not with the establishment itself but with the patrons who bring their kids and then just let them run absolutely rampant. Not paying attention to them at all and letting them run screaming all around the yard, while a musician is trying in earnest to play. I appreciate that there are places where people can go see live music and also bring their kids but there needs to be some kind of discretion about letting them tear around public spaces yelling at the top of their lungs.

Yelp
Met up with a friend here on a Wednesday night. They had a live dj which was a nice surprise. I had the chicken quesadilla and it was pretty good! Lots of cheese and chicken filled quesadillas. It was nice and hot. Wish I captured photos! Was too in the moment lol

Yelp
Not going to lie, parking alone for me is not worth coming out to this place. The roads in the surrounding area are super rough and bumpy (my poor tires), and the area outside the parking lot is kinda sketch, so I felt safer parking in the restaurant's super cramped parking lot. To be upfront, the food was honestly mid. There's better Mexican food elsewhere in better locations. When I tried to leave the parking lot, if it wasn't for a kind stranger helping guide me get out of there (he said that he had helped others in my scenario in this place), I probably would have hit something or damaged my car. Absolutely not going to come back.

Yelp
Live music on Wednesday and great beer! What more do you need? Great place to come and grab a beer, hangout and snack on light bites.

Yelp
I got food poisoning from this place. I was pretty bad and came on quick. Do not recommend.

Nina A.

Yelp
Hello! First of all, the service and food were excellent! You were all very kind and helpful. I was here the other night and I wanted to make a suggestion. There is a very visible sign saying to clear your tables, but it was difficult to find the trash cans, and I didn't find a bus bin anywhere. It would help me as a customer to clear my table if there were instructions to do so, or a bussing station near that sign.

Yelp
What a cool place! The first thing I noticed was how casual and comfortable it is. You can imagine spending a few hours here just eating something and having a couple of pints. So far, I've been here a couple of times, and the staff taking orders at the bar were friendly and fun to chat with. The beer selection is curated and you'll definitely find something to your liking. On my most recent visit, I got to try Laughing Monk Justice Ruth Double IPA on tap, which I'd previously tried in cans. If you're an IPA fan, this is a great pick! On my first visit I tried the 3-type of tacos, tofu, chicken and beef. I have to say, although all were delicious, if I tried them again, I'd go for the tofu, which surprised me. The way the tofu is seasoned/spiced and cooked is fantastic. On my next visit I was lucky that it was during brunch so I could try the Degrees Chilaquiles. Great choice! What makes the dish is the somewhat pureed beans. This is high level comfort food, trust me! I've no hesitation in recommending this place.

Yelp
I really like Degrees Plato. It's clean, bright, friendly and with the parking lot, it's perfect. I feel comfortable going there alone. The food is always super fresh and delicious. The potato taquitos are a treasure. The hot, creamy potato mixture inside a crunchy taquito/flauta, topped with cold sour cream and shredded cabbage and more...is amazingly satisfying. They have good vegan, veggie and omnivore options.
google avatar

Kyle T.

Yelp
The food we got from the brunch menu was all fried and pretty much tasteless. The regular menu did look better, and I bet it would be tastier if you've been drinking.

Yelp
So I went here for SF Beer Week and my jaw dropped when I saw 55 taps. They didn't have all 55 taps up but they still offered over 20 beers, wine, non-alcoholic beers, ciders and kombucha. We had a red ale and an IPA and both were great. They had everything from lagers to blonde ales to imperial stouts and sours. My hubby got a torta with chips and salsa and it was tasty. We parked at a meter on the same block. Restrooms were clean. Staff was great! Enjoy I also really appreciated all the thought that went into all the events they did for SF Beer Week. They had the most creativity to me and some great collaborations with breweries I am less familiar with.

Yelp
"Friendly people, Rustic Setting, Silver Trailer" When I drove by, I was concerned about a safe place to park my car. To my delight, I discovered they have a secure parking lot as part of the property. In fact, you can keep an eye on your car right while you're enjoying your beer. They have lots of outside tables in a rustic setting. There's a large canopy, so there's plenty of shade. Be sure to check out that huge trailer parked nearby. It's like something out of "I love lucy." I'm pretty sure they're going to have big beer parties in that trailer soon. They have a good menu with both light and bigger dishes. Today, I ordered a light meal, the chicken taquitos. Just what the doctor ordered! Of course, I had to have beer to go with it, and I had two pints of the Czech Lager. So overall a very good visit. One minor nit: Please make sure there is soap in the restrooms. It might seem like a minor thing but it's important, as well as a safety code requirement.

Yelp
First I just ordered food. The guy helping me was so nice. I didn't specify to go until afterward so he literally walked back to the kitchen to tell them it was to go. I watched him. And he had such a great attitude about it. On to the food. I got the 3 tacos, one of each. ‍ the tofu one was my least favorite (shocking not I, since I'm not vegetarian) though the toppings and sauce were fantastic. The chicken was soooooo juicy. The carnitas was a tad bit over cooked. But it was all good. Loved the selection of ciders in the fridge so I bought a 6-pack to take to the A's game. I'll be back and I'll actually enjoy the music and vibes of the bar, which were giving a lil hipster a lil punk but very welcoming.
google avatar

Bryon S.

Yelp
Large selection of beers on tap and excellent chilaquiles. Sunday menu is limited to brunch items until 3:00.

Sheila Y.

Yelp
Please do not order from this place! Not one but two times I ordered and they decide to cancel at the time of delivery! They made me wait for the entire time and decided to cancel when it suppose to be delivered! Not a reason just a cancel. Shame on me for giving a second chance. Please do not order from here!

Yelp
Always a great neighborhood pub. I go for the delish carnitas tacos. Comedy hour was a success too!

Randolph A.

Yelp
Good beers. But, be serious. The price on your board for pints DO NOT price charged. What's up with that? Every beer is ultimately $10 bucks ?
google avatar

Kaitlyn B.

Yelp
we love it here!! amazing beer selection (which rotates by the way), the carnitas torta IS SO DANG GOOD and the folks that work here are lovely. They have a couple TVs as well as a cute outdoor area.
google avatar

Linda N.

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday evening for a lil brewksi sesh. The space is hugel there's a parking lot for guests, and outdoor area, and an indoor area with plenty of seating. It didn't look like they had too many options for beers but I was able to find something light. The chips & guac/salsa went nice with my beer. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Edwin M.

Yelp
The have a great beer selection. I mainly come for the food. Chilaquiles amazing! Pozole is great. The service is always great when I go.
google avatar

Susana Q.

Yelp
Delicious beer, chill vibes and nice ambiance. The food is tasty, and service is great! Nice patio area outside, and good seating inside
google avatar

Yelp
We walked here on Sunday night which was just what we needed after drinking a few too many cocktails at home. They have taken over the parking spot outside the building and partitioned it off to allow for parking as well as many socially distant picnic tables for outdoor dining. They have well spaced space heaters and each table is equipped with hand and table sanitizing spray. The ground is covered in a thick mulch and it was wonderfully pleasant. Not a full bar, but lots of beers on tap as well as a cider option and wine option. Menu is Mexican and my tres carnitas tacos hit the spot.
google avatar

Naomi W.

Yelp
Great chill spot with more gourmet beers on tap than you can shake a stick at. Try the carnitas flautas when they're available!
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Came here last night for a private beer share out in the beer garden and had such a great time meeting the GM and owner. Super friendly hosts, huge outdoor space with tables and heat lamps - they checked everyone's vaccination cards and had sanitizers at each table as well. Got the carnitas torta that was absolutely delicious, as was the side salad that came with it. Looking forward to paying another visit next time I'm out here!

Yelp
Great service. Good selection of beers. Keep your eye open for their outdoor events like music and comedy shows throughout the week and weekends

Yelp
I really wish I lived closer to Degrees Plato but then again, be careful what you wish for! Knowing me and my husband we'd probably be here 4-5x week and that's a dangerous proposition. I love everything about this place. I love the beer selection, love that they have beer to-go, love the indoor/outdoor seating, love that they have parking, and love the foooood yum! But most of all, I love that this was my dear friend Dirk Tillotson's favorite spot (R.I.P.) When I come here and drink their IPAs I get these tiny glimpses of Dirk that fill up my heart. LOVE LOVE LOVE this spot!

Yelp
I had a hard day so I thought I would go in for a nice cold beer. It was 7:00 PM. Place a few customers scattered. Walked up to the Bartender we made small talk "Hello - how it going". I asked what he would suggested for a dark beer - THEN HIS PHONE RANG & HE TOOK OFF & TOOK THE CALL. It was a telephone order. He totally ignored me and walked away and went to register to take the phone order. HELLO - YOU DIDN'T TAKE MY ORDER YET! I waited a little bit and I was so pissed of at the lack of GOOD Customer Service - I walked out with out even getting a nice cold beer. I will never be back. Went up the street to Ghost Town Brewing for a nice cold beer where I was treated with dignity.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Love this place. Great beer selections on tap and some cool canned as well. Started talking to the beertender and he gave me a couple of tiny samples and great conversation. They have some Mexican food that was tasty. I see some complaints here that it's too spicy but if you go to a beer spot and they have nachos, they will be spicy because if your mission is to sell beer, you spice it up. There isn't a soft surface in the place so it can get noisy and on cold nights, it's also cold inside. This a loud, friendly beer spot as all beer spots should be. Happy to have them in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
This place is so awesome. They share their space with up-and-coming chefs allowing us here in the community to get a sneak peek of the evolving food scene in Oakland while sipping on the best beer you can find locally. They also offer a great to-go beer selection. I'm terms of service, Manny is the best; the owners also seem pretty cool and appear supportive of the neighborhood. The kids seem to be few and far between these days so upgrading to 5 stars (no offense but no one wants to hear your kids scream in a place with acoustics like this, there is day care for that ;) ...)
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
$10 for guacamole and chips. Seems a good bit high. All fresh and tasty ingredients. Just pricey. Also had the carnitas torta, which comes with a small spring salad. Good greens with a tangy dressing, but the sando takes the nod. Not too greasy , Great quality and quantity of meat on grilled toast. Pretty stellar lunch. If I wasn't working I'd wash it down with one of their great hand crafted brews. Which I Normally get there, to get away from the same old same old. They are a step up from anything I've had in Oakland
google avatar

Kellen H.

Yelp
We love Degrees Plato! My family and I are there weekly with friends from the neighborhood and our kids. Great beer, great service, and food is consistently good - my fav is the chicken sandwich! Grab a table at the outdoor patio or a spot inside. Inside can get echoey which may be too loud for some patrons. They also have an amazing selection of beer for purchase - even if you can't hang out stop by to grab a 6-pack or two of local Bay Area beer. Great selection of non alcoholic options for your pregnant or non-drinking friends!
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
We stopped in during a weeknight for a couple beers and ended up buying everything on their Taco Tuesday food menu...twice. As someone who detests hectic bar scenes where you have to squeeze past elbows and lose half your beer to being sloshed around on your way back to your table (if you even get a table), I was thrilled to saunter into Degrees Plato on a weeknight, stroll right to an open table for 2, and chill for a few hours, completely undisturbed. Their bar staff is the epitome of chill - open a tab, order a few drafts, and kick it while playing board games, chatting with a friend (without having to scream), or eating more (and more) of those delicious tacos. Their tap runs a little heavy on IPA's and sours - we're lager/cream ale/kolsch fans - but we figured out a few that worked for us and enjoyed the scene. I like the rotating grub concept; keeps it fresh and encourages me to come back and try more. If you're looking for a great spot to catch up with a friend or enjoy a casual date, give DP a shot.

Yelp
Stopped by Degrees Plato because we were looking for food and beer after a hike, and Mexican food sounded delicious. You walked in and order your food and beer at the cashier then find a table. I ordered the fried chicken torts and the bf ordered the 3 taco plate. He loved his tacos, and I loved the torta. It was more like a panini, but the chicken was tender and had great flavor. The whole sandwich tasted so good. I definitely want to come back and try the other items on their menu. Beer selection was great with a lot of different types of beers to choose from (pale ales, ipas, stouts, sour, etc) at reasonable prices. They also sell beer cans and bottles! Service was great too!
google avatar

Tyler G.

Yelp
Fun spot for a quick beer and bites. Degrees Plato is a cool little spot. Very similar to ghost town brewing but different food. The outside area is cool with lots of seating however the trashcans by the entrance were a little off putting as you walk in (smells pretty bad). However the allow dogs and the incorporation of the old school air stream gives it a great vibe. I had the pilsner which was very good and refreshing and the three tacos. The carnitas taco was the best. The food was decent however overall it was a bit expensive. 6 tacos and 1 beer was 40 bucks. Overall i like this place and will definitely be back fun spot to hang outside with friends and bring your dog is always a plus!

Donzi D.

Yelp
Love this place, especially when it's warm. Great beer and wine selections. Tasty pop-up food options. Smooth service. Cool hangout with friends.
google avatar

Cassandra T.

Yelp
I only had one beer which was really good, but left feeling really annoyed. The beer itself was $7.50 and they tell you after you order that a forced 15% "healthy living fee" and sales tax are added onto the price. I am fine tipping, I always tip for good service. But something felt sketchy about this, as if the owner was just trying to increase his profits and the tips didn't really go to the worker directly. I also hate forced tips. What if I don't like the service? It's a choice! Also, it's one beer and one person. I didn't bring 8 people with me which is normally what forces a gratuity in the bill. I also didn't like that sales tax is not included in the beer price. Usually when I pay for a beer, it's the price as listed. And I order draught beer all the time. Plus, I would definitely not recommend pouring pints in these types of glasses. The head was way too high. Would not drive out to this part of town for draught beer here again.
google avatar

Jenn C.

Yelp
Amazing selection of beer, outdoor dining and parking. There are several vegan options -- the fried potato tacos are excellent, and the house made vegan soyrizo is quite good. They do add on a service fee of 15% to orders - so be prepared for the sticker shock -- and then level op to 20% or more for your tip.
google avatar

Aileen C.

Yelp
Fab food. Mexican. Great IPA / beers on tap. Big out door seating area. Eat here often!
google avatar

Charlie A.

Yelp
Discovered this place when we moved into the neighborhood, and we love it. Great beer selection that you can't find anywhere else and the food is always fresh & tasty! I personally love the taco trio, flautas, and nachos are always on hit. I really appreciate the quality ingredients they use on everything. Another reason why we love this place is because they have a lil kids area next to the community bench seating, so we bring our 2 year old son and he can be entertained while we dine and unwind with a cold brew. Prices are on the higher side for certain items for Mexican (i.e. $7-8 for chips n Guac) O.O I guess that's what you pay for quality stuff these days. Also, they don't serve reg menu item everyday, so make sure you check first before going. (Nacho Mondays, Taco Tuesday..etc) and that's all they would serve. But good beet is ADED (All day every day)!
google avatar

Duke T.

Yelp
New restaurant in East Oakland you say? Well y'all know I had to try that GThang out! Man listen, my carnitas quesadilla was on point and came with a side of guacamole for good measure. The food came right away though they weren't too busy. Malayaha the bartender gave me fire recommendations for drinks. Currently Saturday at 5:40pm and there is a mixture of parents with kids, a few date night couple and a DJ duo showed up playing some Portuguese jazz! There's indoor and outdoor seating, they have a selection of drinks for you to choose to purchase for home. Definitely a place for the family or Date Night. I don't think you'll be disappointed with coming here at all.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
Good beer selection but too damn loud. I wanted to have a beer and hang out with a friend, but we can't even hear each other talk.
google avatar

Lauryn H.

Yelp
This place is fantastic for after work happy hour with your colleagues. We easily squeezed 12 people on one bench; no one felt left out. They carry a wide selection of local craft beers, with a smattering of cider, sours, as well as wine by the bottle or glass. I didn't try much of their food but nibbled off of my friends Platos de Tres Salasa and Totopaz Adobadoas. With a thicker than factory made crunch and perfectly salted exterior, the chips were obviously homemade. The guacamole and salsa that came with it were quite tasty too. Unfortunately the Totopaz Adobadoas ruined the fantastic chip by slathering it in their take of the wonderful Portuguese stock it's named after. It tasted so brunt that it remained untouched for the entirety of our stay. Will definitely be back to try their taquitos and other beer offerings! P.S. Check out the fridge aisle on the way to the bathroom; there's some great stuff in there.
google avatar

Wyatt S.

Yelp
Awesome place. Great selection of beer and the food is good. We often bring our young kids here and they love it. Flautas are great and whenever they have a pop up kitchen the food is excellent.
google avatar

Helen T.

Yelp
Fresh and tasty ... 3 taco plate - Best one was the eggplant one. Carnitas torta was like a panini on bread from local bakery. Lots of local beer and cideR options. Large parking lot on High street
google avatar

Lam V.

Yelp
Great selection of beers on tap and the fridges in the back have a bunch of beer for sale (which I did not notice until multiple visits). Food is limited but dependable. Sit inside or outside. I typically prefer the outside seating in the private area in the back. Biggest plus? They have their own parking. Happy they are in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Austin W.

Yelp
Today was my first time at Degrees Plato and I'm forever a fan. There's a robust rotation of beers on tap, the bottle shop is well stocked, the food menu will satisfy the craving of the pickiest eaters, and above all, the staff here could not be more kind. The covered, outdoor seating area right next to the parking lot is somewhere I could spend all day at sipping beers. If you're looking for an outdoor beer garden to kick it with friends without having to wait for hours for a table, skip Drake's and come here, you will not be disappointed.

Cathleen T.

Yelp
I ordered the house salad with chicken and tangerine slices. And the kitchen door was open so customers are able to look in there. I saw a woman making my salad but, she dropped some tangerine slices on the floor and put it back in the container with the rest of the tangerines. Just FYI for those eating here.
