Taqueria Del Sol Review - Westside - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Long lunch and dinner lines at Taqueria del Sol are about as common as steel road plates on 14th Street. And we happily brave the queues here because we know great Tex-Mex sprinkled with a Southern twist (see: perfectly fried chicken tacos and a side of turnip greens) is waiting on the other side. If you come to the laid-back West Midtown address, expect to compete for a patio table with famished families or office workers. Bring someone with you who not only understands the importance of seat scouting, but who also realizes that the first slurps of a frozen margarita have been medically proven to rejuvenate the body. photo credit: Sarah Newman photo credit: Sarah Newman photo credit: Sarah Newman" - DeMarco Williams

I ordered the torta of pastor and had an agua de piña. Everyone there was really nice and the food came out quick. Best torta I’ve had in a long time. The agua de piña was perfect for this summer day lunch. Coming back with my wife for dinner more than likely. 👌🏽

Google
The food is absolutely Muy Bueno. I come in all the time and get the pancake plate or their absolutely delicious tacos. The atmosphere is amazing. The service is wonderful. The lady who works. The front desk is so nice and so generous. She always has a smile on her face when I walk in great prices too.

Ruth Rosas

Google
The only good thing was the apple juice. The eggs were burned so bad on the edges, the tortillas cold and not cooked thoroughly. My husband's tacos of potatoes & egg w/cheese had the eggs so burned I asked the waitress to please redo the taco, she didn't, when she came back with it, she had just removed the burned areas and it no longer had cheese. The barbacoa taco was so cold, it wasn't eaten. Horrible food, rude wait staff, never going back. Those are pieces of the burned egg I cut off, as you can see on the plate, the whole egg is burned!

Google
The menudo had a great flavor but it was a little chewy; could have been cooked a bit longer. Carne guisada - the sauce was good but the meat tasted like it had been frozen - had an off flavor. The rice, beans, salsa verde, & homemade tortillas were really good.

Madie Leon Riley

Google
This place was delicious and affordable. Their breakfast tacos were killer but the migas were just a great breakfast platter. From the outside, Del Sol may come off as a little hole in the wall but the inside is clean and comfy. They were pretty quick, too. Will definitely be returning.

Google
I should have read all the reviews before eating there. The place was completely empty the entire time I was there. (Now I understand why). The menudo was alright, I asked for a bit of oregano, it was Black and smelled other than oregano. Tasted more like cominos!!! On top of that, it's pretty pricy, $24 for a menudo, 3 extra tortillas ($1 per extra tortilla is ridiculous) and a Jarrito. 1st and last time there. The couple that was there could smile a bit more.

Google
If i could give a zero i would. Older couple was very rude. I guess they own this place. But Cmon man i paid $17.50 FOR THIS? I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN. A 12 oz can of coke is $2.50…A 12oz can😂😂 GTFOH!

I was verbally and physically assaulted here. I parked in an unmarked spot was yelled at to move was even touched by the male owner before the female owner realized that he was out of line, but as I was walking away, they tried to move a sign in front of my car to get it towed, and then she uttered something that was both racist and derogatory.

Yelp
I just left here less than 20 minutes ago and while it was simple to order and no wait... the lady that took our order was sooo rude. I have no idea what her problem is or why she even works there. The two other girls were so nice and happy but the lighter skinned lady with the short Jerry curled hair was just plain out mean. I ate here four years ago and I said I wouldn't be back in a while because she was so rude, so I went again today and she is still the same as she was years ago. The food was alright and decent size for the price.

Monica G.

Yelp
The mexican parrillada and the carne guisada was delicious! El agua de piña está muy rica and the service excellent!

Yelp
AVOID this place. The owners have no sense of customer service and are very demeaning and grumpy in their attitude. Food is mediocre too. The final straw was that when my family and I ordered tacos and not drinks with it - and later asked for cups for water - the owner shamefully said you get only one cup because you didn't order drinks before. Like WTF. Never again.

Yelp
Plenty to improve on, but food was decent, although quite pricey especially for the portion size. I called in a pick-up order for 2 Barbacoa Tacos on Corn and 1 Carne Guisada on flour. Barbacoa was nice and greasy, but both were on flour. Onions and cilantro come standard. The Carne Guisada was on the stringier side but overall tasty. Tomatoey gravy and potatoes. Tacos were all small with a conservative amount of filling. Phone call ended the moment I said "that's it" without taking down any details (e.g., phone number; name). Upon arriving 7min later I had to place my order again with one of the ladies behind the counter which made for a slightly confusing experience. Do not expect a warm welcome when coming to this place. Customer service is the least of my concern, but this is clearly an area they could do a lot to improve. By the time I paid, my order was bagged up for me. Salsa bar is self-serve. While the food was not the problem, 3 small tacos for $12.99 means I cannot ignore all the other areas where this place is lacking. There are many solid taco spots in the area to patron instead.

Yelp
Do not eat here, lady making the food was using bare hands to put potatoes on the griddle, then used a nasty dirty rag to wipe of another griddle, grabbed tortillas with bare hands to put on the 2nd griddle without washing her hands. When I asked why she wasn't using gloves, the owner just said "well her hands are clean" I said not after she grabbed that nasty rag" asked for my money back and he started yelling at me. NASTY DIRTY PLACE!

Yelp
The new owner has raised the prices of everything on the menu also decreasing portion sizes. He is very rude and disrespectful to White people in my opinion. The whole staff looks scared to even talk to him. This place usually has great food but the owner has let the quality go to his big head. I will never be back... there are too many other places in town who actually care about their customers. I hope this place ends up closing like every other business who has failed at this location. If you work in construction and are of Hispanic decent you are a king in this shit hole. Enjoy! ~Sarcasm

Yelp
Rude staff, bland food... Although I truly like supporting family owned businesses, especially Latino, this time any fast food chain restaurant would be a way better option.

Yelp
Today I came in for the breakfast plate and it did not disappoint. I ordered the chorizo and egg plate with flour tortillas. The potatoes on the dish were perfect as was the star of the dish; chorizo and eggs. I also picked up some small ramekins of salsa to take with me. The salsa is fresh and flavorful. This place is definitely worth a try. Total damage for the breakfast plate $7.09

Yelp
AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD! I didn't take a picture of our Beef fajita plate because it was way too good and we ate it way too fast. The beans were AMAZING and had an authentic taste and were so so good. This is nothing close to Tex-Mex. the employees who worked here consistently checked in on us and asked if we were okay with the food and needed anything else. Now let's talk about these CORN TORTILLAS..... absolutely breathtaking and delicious and they're made here, fresh in the restaurant. Probably the best corn tortillas I've ever had.. I can't wait to come back and bring the whole family!

Dylan P.

Yelp
Rude lady behind the counter and expensive. First time in and was trying to see what they got but she was rushing me to order even though I was the only person in the restaurant. Service was alright. Got two gorditas and a small queso and paid over $20 with no drink. Absolutely mind blowing to me.

E S.

Yelp
I got two beef tacos, both were Sooooooooooooooooo salty Soooooo oily The meat was perfect and tender , so sad though because the salt was unbearable

Yelp
Breakfast tacos, people. It's all about the amazing breakfast tacos at the family-friendly Del Sol Taqueria. And the homemade tortillas straight from the hands of angels. And the assorted tasty salsas you put on said tacos. And maybe the generous plates of made-to-order deliciousness with which you can create your own breakfast tacos. Both corn and flour tortillas are being expertly patted out by hand behind the counter, a lovely sound to hear while you're awaiting your order. Soft and fluffy (even the corn!), you'll want to just gorge on these until you pop. Complimentary tortilla chips become available at 11a, something you'll want to stick around for if you enjoy savoring that sweet, slow burn of 6 progressively spicy salsa options. Each sauce has its own flavor profile and serves a different purpose. FYI, that light creamy-looking green one is NOT made of avocados, it's simply jalapeños, garlic, salt, and emulsified oil -- similar to the Doña sauce that made a certain Austin-area taco chain famous. The creamy orange one is something similar, but made with habanero -- pretty sure that one is my favorite. My only request for improvement would be to add some escabeche (pickled veggies) to the salsa bar, but that's a nitpick. Yes, they have some lunch-ish items like enchiladas and what-not, but if you order only that, you are missing out! Read the other glowing reviews (very few of which are from gueras like me) and you'll see that the majority of praise comes for the breakfast items and ala carte tacos. At the least, you must try the migas plate (crisp tortilla bits perfectly incorporated and the right egg to other ratio) and the bistec ala Mexicana (tender, with no gristle!), with double orders of both corn and flour tortillas on the side so that you can fully experience taco nirvana. Bonus points if you add in a barbacoa side. Can't talk. Eating. Mmmm-mmmmm..... P.S. If some of your group members have terrible palates (I'm looking at you, 9 year old son), they can always fall back to the more bland quesadilla, nachos, nuggets, and burgers part of the menu. Those poor, unfortunate souls.

Yelp
The food is consistently good but they no longer have chips. They have a wonderful variety of salsa and no chips. I would happily pay for them.

Yelp
This place has the best breakfast tacos on Round Rock. I have been going here since I was 18 and when I moved to RR a year and half ago I was so excited to start going back. They are affordable fast and really good!

Luz G.

Yelp
OMG, I have been looking for a legit taco spot for about 2+ years. I found it. The asada taco is to die for, so tender and so well seasoned. I have been looking for a great taco place for so long and I finally found it. Please do yourself a favor and come visit!! Also, being Mexican my standards are different than many of my peers. If you're a mexican looking for legit amazing tacos, THIS IS YOUR SPOT.

Yelp
I have been in search for good authentic tacos. Having lived in San Antonio and tacos in the valley expectations are always going to be high. I have been in search for Barbacoa tacos and this place had it. I ordered it and was not too thrilled. It tasted ok but it lacked the flavor bag I was used to. I also ordered an egg and bacon taco and it was good. Nothing too special but tasted good with their salsa. As for the restaurant itself it had a diner feel. It could be a little cleaner but it wasn't bad at all.

Yelp
Convenience, timing, and all around good tasting food. I had an event in Round Rock that needed breakfast for over 200 people so trying to find a place to accommodate us was a little stressful but luckily, I found Del Sol Taqueria. I called 2 weeks before the event to find out if they were able to make 250 tacos at 7:30am on a weekend. The lady didn't even think twice about it. The price was great and she called me the day before my pickup to confirm the order. When I arrived, they had all 250 tacos, pre-filled salsa containers and utensils boxed up and ready to. Who would have thought tacos could be so heavy? They helped load my car up and I was off to my event. Tacos all tasted great and everyone loved them! Will definitely use them again next year.

Yelp
I came here for a quick lunch with my father after seeing the great reviews on Yelp. We came in around 12:30pm and only one family was dining in, which seemed strange to me. We went up to the counter where you place your order and ordered two tacos each. I chose a pastor taco and a bistec taco and my father ordered a beef fajita taco and a pastor taco as well. The other family had already received their food, so I'm not sure why it took fifteen minutes to receive our four tacos. While we waited, I perused the rest of their menu and saw they offer quite a variety of things, both simple taco shop fare and more restaurant-type plates. My tacos were delicious! The pastor was my favorite and the bistec was fine. They give you one large tortilla regardless of whether or not you choose flour or corn, so two tacos was enough for me. They also have salsas that are adequately labeled. I believe I have quite a high tolerance for spicy, so I tried their extra spicy salsa and my tongue was on FIRE. It is definitely not for the faint of heart. I would return, but not before trying out some more places around here!

Yelp
I have tried this restaurant once for lunch and gotten breakfast tacos once. If I could give partial stars I would give them just over 3 for value. For lunch I ordered a carne guisada and overall I thought it was a good meal. It had a fair amount of meat which is always a plus and it was very tender. It also came with rice, beans, and a couple of avocado slices and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. I opted for flour. The plate cost around $9.00 and you could easily make 3 good sized tacos and have meat to spare which I thought was a great value. Being someone that is always looking for a protein packed meal, I'll be back for this at some point. Too bad they aren't open for dinner. The breakfast tacos which other helpers seem to rave about, I thought were very average. People on yelp keep talking about homemade tortillas. The tortillas are definitely better than a Rudy's taco, but the tortilla is not what you would get with a homemade tortilla at Valentina's food truck. I was expecting more of a manteca loaded tortilla that melts in your mouth. I tried a chorizo and egg and a sausage and egg taco. They were both decent and again for the price I would get them again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them.

Paz P.

Yelp
If I could rate a zero I definitely would. Portions are super small. Service was horrible. Barbacoa was all fat and filled with liquid. Fajita tacos were greasy. 0/10
google avatar

Madi M.

Yelp
Very good tasty food, not Tex-mex, but Mexican! Cleanness wise I wish they could make improvements. Since food is fresh and price is reasonable I will definitely go back and suggest others. I went to Rosas cafe and did not enjoy as much as I did here.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
Another coupon from the Community Impact magazine bites the dust, they let you try new places for less, this particular one got you one free taco if you buy 2. My wife had the sausage, egg and cheese and i went with 2 chorizo, egg and cheese, all of which were on homemade tortillas, i had one flour and one corn...good stuff! They have a nice assortment on their little salsa/ condiments bar....had a senior moment and forgot to take a pic of it, but i did post a few others. They have salsas of 3 or 4 different heat levels and they're well marked, and pico de gallo.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
Yummy. No frills good food. Inexpensive. Salsa on point. I'll be back and I'll tell my friends.

Damanda M.

Yelp
I rate this place at a one when in all reality they deserve a zero. The older short lady was very rude and nasty to me because I ask for Extra cheese and lime for one of the tacos that she never gave me a chance to ask for. I also ask when was the business hours. She act as she didn't understand so the lady waiting in line behind ask for me in Spanish. Her response as she pointed " hours are outside on the window sign , that was clearly faded out for anyone to see. When my food was done she threw my bag on the counter and said Tacos. That was it. No thank you or have a good day in English or in Spanish. She was very nasty and said rude things I'm Spanish. I don't much of Spanish but I know enough to understand how rude she was being. She said some words in Spanish and walked away. The food was not good at all it was warm but disgusting. Just like the lady that served me with a horrible nasty attitude. I recommend no one go there to spend their money to be treated as should you'll be very disappointed. I could be wrong but likely I'm not. She is racist the little old lady at the counter. That was my first and last time ever going there again

Yelp
Never coming back Third time I come here I ask for flour tortillas on my tacos and I repeat myself and I get corn so frustrating

Yisela G.

Yelp
the tortas are very good and satisfied our taste buds , the fajita one was especially very good , this place is clean as soon as we entered there was someone cleaning . the red salsa is spicy which is good because not many places can make a salsa that is spicy . they are really friendly and talk and treat you like family , i recommend this place 100% if you want real mexican food .

Yelp
The food was awesome I ordered pastor plate and it was more than enough for me. Ready for a nap it was that good. Loved the rice especially it reminded me of my mom's. The couple there were nice and got my order taken and food fixed quick. I'm glad I finally tried this place.

Yelp
On this day the cashier was fabulous, though I'm writing this review because of the flavor. Wow, authentic Tex-MEx Carme Guisada. Yummy! The tortillas are homemade.

Yelp
(#95)...Whoop, Whoop...We may make the 100 mark by the end of the year, and a great find this was...Shout out to Shannon B...You put the bread crumbs out and had to follow!...Actually our First place we have ever ate at that was counter service...Dont judge, wife really like the table side service and Hey...So do I...But Wow..this was so worth it...Place it small, yet Very clean, friendly and ready to serve...LOVE the salsa bar!!...How many places have a selection like this??..Not very many, and if they do?...How good are they...Fresh, Fresh and Fresh....Umm...did I mention Spicy??..BOOM!!...a couple of the salsas should have warnings on them, as I shoveled them in my mouth..."You Took To Much" the wife says, and yes, yes I did...but I recover, and yet can stop eating it...The red, Dark looking one...Wife was hooked on the Habanero "orange" sauce...sweet, yet spicy...And On to the main dish...Coming out on plastic style plates, these are impressive when they hit the table...And you cant beat the "Bang for Your Buck" value...wife hit the Beef Chiladas and I hit the chicken....Both of us dove into awesomeness...Green sauce was tart/spicy, just like it was supposed to be...Red sauce, was a bit weak for the wifes taste, but the beef was good...I never, ever comment on the rice, but Hmmm...was really good, moist and ...Well Good!!...Small kernels was the catch on this one...it had some texture too it, yet not hard and crunchy...OHH and the beans, those lovey beans...Super good, that is All...wish they had Charro too, but I can live these...Wished we would have ordered a side of fresh made tortillas, but we will be Back for sure...Breakfast looks amazing!!

Yelp
This place is great! I'd totally recommend it. The only issue I had when I went is when my friend ordered the burger she asked for all the fixings with added avocado and all she got was the cheese. I'm sure they would have fixed it if my friend bothered to say anything but overall place is great! But besides that I'd go back again.
google avatar

Amber V.

Yelp
This migas here are some of the best I've ever had. I brought some home for dinner, next thing I know my room mate is heading out the door to go get some of her own (cause I'm certainly not sharing!) Fish tacos is another of my favorites off the menu. The open salsa bar has a wonderful selection of fresh salsas. If you're a white girl like me, the avocado salsa verde will have you doing the Jarabe Tapatio before you know it.
google avatar

Mando D.

Yelp
Home made meals I love the hand made tortillas here and the fresh salsa bar it's great, very friendly stuff over all a great place to have a meal
google avatar

Art C.

Yelp
This is a no nonsense, satisfying, authentic Mexican Taqueria. Their food is consistently good and well made. They make both corn and flour tortillas in house! It's not fancy but the food is what counts. I have been here 4 times this week because I just can't get enough. The beans are expertly seasoned and keep me coming back. I especially enjoy the migas. The menudo is delicious. If you like tacos de tripas, they do an awesome job! They opened not too long ago. This used to be a different taqueria that I was sad to see go but I'm happy with the new establishment.
google avatar

Jesse E.

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite authentic Mexican places for breakfast. I haven't had their lunch or dinner, but I'm sure it great.

Ciaron G.

Yelp
Food was very bland. The employees were very rude. I also got barbacoa and it was floating in grease. Clearly the rice was not even authentic.
google avatar

Shakopee M.

Yelp
The best Mexican food in Round Rock breakfast tacos are awesome with homemade corn tortillas
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
By far one of the best Mexican food in round rock. Pastor is on point! Really happy we dropped in. New fav spot for sure!

Sweet P.

Yelp
Had some high hopes when I read the reviews. I had a hankering for barbacoa tacos. I ordered 4 tacos for $13.00 which is a little high. The tacos were tiny and soaked in grease when I got home. Barbacoa is an art, you don't want it too dry or too greasy. It's as simple as draining the meat before making the taco.

Angelica R.

Yelp
A friend of mine recommended it and is not bad. Great food , friendly staff, excellent breakfast, brunch option.
google avatar

Alexandria H.

Yelp
Had high hopes for this place but the Barbacoa is way to greasy and sticky. The torta was good but the menudo did not have any hominy. Menudo without hominy is not menudo at all. Corn tortillas are only homemade and those were great as well as the sauces . Not sure if we will be back.
google avatar

Ami Z.

Yelp
I had 2 breakfast tacos: potato/egg and bean and cheese. They were just MEH. Very small too. The salsa is great though!
google avatar

Oscar R.

Yelp
Had the chicharrón roja burrito. First bite I knew this was going to be our new Mexican spot in RR. The salsas where really good and packed with flavor. Service was quick and friendly. My bae bae had the flautas and boy was that a great choice. The chicken was stewed and still moist. They where perfect.
google avatar

Lupe F.

Yelp
Food so deliciouse and hot and fresh hand made tortillas and salsas spicy and so good really recommend this place . Really Great customer service and as soon as you place an order they have it right out for you best mexican restaurant ever and very clean
google avatar

Lena M.

Yelp
They got awesome breakfast tacos! I love this place and will be coming back for sure!
google avatar

Shelly C.

Yelp
We went here for the first time since it became del Sol. Our tacos barely had any meat in the tacos and the tacos wernt even full. The tortillas were different but tasted good. My barbacoa taco was big but had to much grease and not enough flavor. Not packed at all clean inside and not sure if we will be coming back.
google avatar

Brynna M.

Yelp
Looking for a place to get tacos on the way home from Austin and this hit the spot. Friendly service and filling plates. Can you get better tacos elsewhere? Probably so, but this place has no line on a Sunday morning, and we enjoyed the relaxed, casual vibe.
google avatar

Tawnia B.

Yelp
While out and about shopping today my husband and I wanted really good Mexican food. So, I seen this restaurant had 5 stars. Regardless of the appearance I thought the food would be better. I ordered a cheese and onion enchilada, rice, beans and beef taco. The enchilada tasted like a cheap waxy goo, the rice was stuck together, taco beef was dry and beans were thick, with no taste. Far from 5 stars to me. I highly recommend to keep on driving.
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
Missed my turn for Burger King and saw this place off I35 frontage road...I am so glad I did! I am picky over breakfast tacos and these were some of the best anywhere! What a gem!
