"The word is out about this tiny, omakase-only Japanese gem, located adjacent to Swan’s Market in Old Oakland. It’s a simple, casual space with a small counter and handful of tables, but it also provides a fine spotlight for a mixture of high-quality nigiri and kaiseki dishes.Meals typically run about eight courses, with seasonal starters like a grilled apricot and mizuna salad; salmon sashimi adorned with a slice of Saturn peach; or garlic shoots enhancing seared Miyazaki beef.Excellent nigiri, from tuna to mackerel to fluke, arrive at intervals alongside other captivating items, like seared duck breast with moro miso or scallops with shiso and umeboshi. The only downside is that reservations can be a challenge—so be sure to plan well ahead." - Michelin Inspector

On the Grid : B-Dama

"Fresh flavors and solid portion sizes make B-Dama our favorite spot to grab a steaming bowl of udon soup or tuck into some fresh sushi rolls. Vegetarians will love the tofu steak option while meat eaters adore the pork misozuke. If you go, don’t forget to top your meal off with a matcha affogato, a scoop of vanilla ice cream served with a shot of green tea." - Pitch Interactive

Google
This is the best sushi/omakase in the Bay Area. I live in LA (and have tried most every sushi restaurant in the Bay and LA) but whenever I fly into Oakland, I always make reservations here. Chikara is a master. You will not be disappointed. The sake pairing is excellent!

Google
It’s so hard to articulate how special Delage was. I found a reservation last minute. The server and the chef were amazing. The space is cozy and welcoming. The food was incredible. The bill - underwhelming (in a good way). I am still wondering what am I missing. Such a great omakase experience for $125??? I must be missing something?

Google
I would categorize delage as entry level fine dining. Excellent quality of unique japanese influenced dishes with sustainable ingredients and local influences. Every dish was a unique tasting experience- from lightly seared wagyu nigiri to local flower salad w foam dressing, if youre in the mood for something different or interested in fine dining but not quite ready to take the plunge to somewhere like french laundry, theyre a great stepping stone. Highly recommend.

My wife and I had a great time here! The ambiance was really pleasant, the dishes were truly top quality omakase, and the staff was extremely accommodating. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
Every thing was so delicious. I love how creative the chef was to put together beautiful dishes with fresh ingredients. I love all the different flavors combinations, read the description on the menu. Not overpowering but go so well with all the ingredients. I love miso cream sauce with the black cod. I love the dessert at the end. Just perfect way to finish off the meal, not too sweet.

Google
Just had dinner at Delage. It was such a delicious meal with wonderful service and very knowledgeable chefs preparing the sushi right in front of us. All of the flavor combinations were creative and well-balanced, and the food was presented very well with the artistic bowls and plates. Would definitely recommend this place for a fancy night out!

Google
This place is a must go. One thing I look for in places like this is simple but unique flavors. The chefs here absolutely knocked it out of the park with every dish. The flavor combinations were incredible, the textures were spot on, and the plating was beautiful. The staff was really kind and helpful and the overall atmosphere was really laid back. Can't wait to come back.

Google
8 course omakase experience - they get their fish fresh daily and incorporate seasonal ingredients into the menu. The flavors were simple yet complex and each course had it's own surprising element. Each dish is prepared was thoughtful in complimenting flavor and texture! The nigiri was exceptional - (if eaten in the correct order) the buildup of complexity and umami was a delight to experience. They were also accommodating for our dietary restrictions. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
2.2024 My BF surprised booked Delage to celebrate Valentine's. It's our tradition to eat omakase for Vday :) This year marks our 6yr. Omakase is our favorite and we've tried over 20 different places including SoCal and some in Japan :) We both agreed this place hit the mark in terms of creativity, presentation, quality, and affordability. FOOD: The menu came with technically 11 dishes and the style is closer to kaiseki rather than traditional omakase as they start you off with small dishes, nigiris, small dishes, and back to nigiris and end with a dessert. Some standout dishes that I thought were super unique and/or delicious: - glass/clear bread tasted exactly like bread but literally looks like clear glass. Such a cool and unique dish I've never seen anywhere else! - ALL their nigiris were high quality and we enjoyed the variety of fish they picked for the menu and the seasoning and topping on each piece was the perfect bite. It made me happy-dance multiple times (that's how you know it's mouthgasmic!) - when eating omakase, I want to eat at least: uni, toro, wagyu, & salmon. Delage had it all and more. - OMG, their ginger was also very unique here. Not your typical yellow slice of gingers, but rather small pink pickled pieces that came with the perfect amount to palette cleanse before each fish. the small details! - I love the dishware they served each dish :) It's such a big component of omakase and they truly picked out some great pieces! SERVICE: FEMALE SUSHI CHEF! I've eaten at so many omakases and this was my first time being served by a female chef! LOVE LOVE LOVE! There were two chefs total at the counter and although they didn't make conversation like some other places do, it was still a pleasant experience. The counter was also significantly lower than the chef's counter, so the nigiris weren't presented in the traditional way where they presented each piece to you individually. I personally prefer it presented piece by piece because you remember exactly what you are eating at the moment. The nigiris were presented 4 at a time at the chef's counter and the rest of the dishes were brought out by waitresses. The staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the cuisine. Another aspect that we appreciated was they serve your food at your pace rather than everyone else's at the counter. So even though we were the 4th party to get our dishes initially, we were the first to finish and leave the restaurant. AMBIANCE: Very intimate and small interior. The counter sits 8 people and 2 additional tables seat 6 people. Very retro and old-school Japanese decor :) There is no bathroom inside the shop, so you have to ask for the code to use the bathroom in the same plaza. Overall, would definitely recommend this place for quality omakase for an affordable price!

Yelp
NOTE: When their Resy says to get here early to find parking, they mean it!!! We arrived 20 mins ahead and still found ourselves speedwalking over after parking 3 blocks away. Not too many spots nearby. Date night here~ My bf and I are omakase fiends, so naturally Delage was on our must-try list. I booked a week in advance. Almost missed it with how unassuming the storefront is-- the place is tiny and decorated humbly. Upon entering, you're welcomed warmly by chefs and staff. For $125, it's a steal for the sheer quality and quantity (9 courses...!). I'm surprised they don't charge more. Gorgeous presentation and thoughtfully balanced flavors. My favorites would have to be the Spotted Knifejaw and Sea Bream-- so sweet and delicate. All dishes were served at once to everyone seated at the counter, like clockwork. It was great having the chance to chat with the chef as they prepared our meal, it's quite intimate and feels very homey. A few of the flavor combinations were maybe a little too advanced for my palate (I still think the crystal bread tastes like plastic and the soup was too salty), but overall loved the experience.

Yelp
Wow! Just wow! A delightful experience. Not only was each plate beautiful but it was so delicious! I wasn't too sure at first when I heard California inspired omakase but they sure delivered! Very limited seating (8 people) at the bar watching the chef work and cute decor added to this unique experience. They also have tables for 4 people but it's so fun to watch them make the food. Summary: Local ingredients and a rotating menu of delicious and beautiful plates for 125/pp. It's more a treat/celebratory spot for me but well worth it since I would have imagined a higher price point Can't wait for the next occasion to eat here!

Yelp
Amazing little place we saw on Check Please Bay Área. It is small and offers exquisite Japanese food. Not cheap and totally at the chef's discretion. Three of us enjoyed our 9 course meal celebrating two birthdays.

Yelp
Delage is a wonderful experience which focuses on the food. Quality is top notch, creative, and the staff is excellent. Two of us sat at the counter for an 8PM seating last Sunday. Atmosphere isn't much but pleasant and we didn't care. Again, the quality was off the charts. I only have a few pictures of the courses but they were all excellent. The chef also gave us a taste of this wonderful Chardonnay that his beverage guy brought in who happened to be eating as well. Money well spent here as one would pay nearly double I bet in some super bougie/chic atmosphere for similar quality. Cool neighborhood too. Hope to return here sooner than later!

Yelp
I was very pleasantly surprised by how beautiful each dish was. And of course tasted very delicious!! There is only one main chef and one server but it is a tiny restaurant with only a handful of seats. There are six seats at the bar and a table that could seat four. So make sure to make a reservation! There is a different set course menu everyday. I am attaching a photo of the menu but it had a pleasant appetizer, salad, 2 pc sushi, 4 pc nigiri, palate cleanser (ours was a super yummy plum/yuzu drink), fish katsu, chirashi, 4 pc nigiri again, soup, and dessert! It was very worth the price ($125 per person plus tax plus tip came out to be $326 for two of us). It was yummy but SO PRETTY!!! Each dish was such an art Would definitely go back many many times. (FYI - there is only limited street parking)

Yelp
Wonderful, warm service. Beautiful, creative, delicious food. Went for a birthday celebration, and will definitely return.

Yelp
Love this as we watched an episode on Check please that reviewed a dinning experience. I enjoyed most of it.

Yelp
Came here for the boo's bday. It's a small restaurant with limited seating. The fish was very fresh and each dish was unique and very flavorful. The fried black cod was hands down my favorite dish. We basically licked the miso sauce clean. Service was excellent. Would definitely come back for another special occasion.

Yelp
Brought my sister here for her first omakase experience in Oakland! It was a bit difficult to find located next to a marketplace type restaurants, They don't open the doors until exactly 8pm so everyone for the 8pm reservation was waiting outside. Then when the doors open u check in with the server who asks u to wear a mask and then seats u. It's a small space not too fancy but u can sit at the bar in front of chef or one table in the corner. One thing i thought was interesting was u need to pay and tip first before the experience. This kind of threw me off bc i like to decide on tip after the overall experience, i def would have tipped more afterwards. Then the courses start trickling out. Loved the first 3 courses the most. The crunchy smoked salmon appetizer followed by a beautiful little mermaid plate that had sparkly foam and seaweed and caviar- something i think Ariel would eat for dinner :) I loved the first set of nigiri. So soft buttery fish and delicious flavors. The alaskan cod was nice with the katsu sauce and i liked the mini bowls of spicy fish and uni. The 2nd nigiri set was okay the mochi dessert was so fresh chewy and delicious!! Would recommend to try!

Yelp
Like their sister restaurant Utzutzu this location is small and has very few seats. There's no sign outside so you just find the open door at the corner of the building. Parking can be a challenge during dinner rush (we had 8pm reservation) so recommend coming in either less vehicles or allow time for parking. My friends and I had a reservation for a party of 3 so we did not sit at the bar to watch the chef, we were seated at a single table in the corner which was also nice so we could chat together. You pay for your meal and drinks first using the QR code at your table and they don't begin serving until you've finished ordering. Service was friendly and attentive, the waitress was knowledgeable on all the dishes. The dishes here have a bit more of a modern flair compared to a more traditional omakase experience which Utzutzu offers. Everything was served fresh and delicious. The multiple courses were perfect size and portions. You have 2 hours to finish your meal and are never rushed, we were clearly at a slower pace than the other diners but that didn't stop our food from coming out hot and fresh. Every bite was perfectly balanced. Each nigiri piece had its own garnish that complimented the fish perfectly, never overpowering. The palate cleanser was a fermented plum drink with foam and edible gold leaf, just the right portion and definitely did its job. Gindara Katsu Wild Alaskan Black Cod was our favorite non nigiri dish. It was fried to perfection, nice crunchy crust, tender meat on the inside and the miso sauce was mouth watering. Charashi dishes were also perfectly combined, uni with ikura was absolutely perfect. The Kombu was a perfect end to help cleanse everything after all the dishes before dessert. The pomegranate mochi dessert was a nice texture, inside raw chocolate delicious and melty and all the fruits were very fresh. Overall a fun experience. Definitely recommend for special occasions, one of the couples was having an anniversary dinner which I presume they noted in their reservation as the waitress acknowledged it and their dessert came with decorations that said "Happy Anniversary"

Yelp
The omakase experience here is definitely worth it. Everything was delicious. The place is a little small, so I'd recommend making a reservation!

Yelp
I stopped in for dinner during a business trip and was staying in Oakland. I had such a wonderful experience at Delage with the prepared 8 course menu. Such an excellent variety of dishes, textures, flavors, colors! Each dish was clearly planned to fit into the larger experience with the ngiri being the highlight of the two sections of the 8 course meal. Big call out for the staff working the night I dropped in - wonderfully warm people that gave great direction on how to approach each dish and were great to be around in general. Stop in, make a night of it!!

Yelp
The chef is humble and highly gifted. This place looks so unassuming on the outside. Almost as if it wants to remain hidden. Watching the chef prepare all of the dishes was illuminating. We sat right next to her on the right of the sushi bar. I highly recommend requesting these seats. Her 'hand' in the food, so to speak, made everything taste beautiful. Having only her control all of the dishes made such a difference. There was a brilliant feminine touch to everything. Inside the sushi bar sat three couples, us included. Then, there was one other single table. That's it. Almost every dish was gluten free and dairy free or as Picard would say, they could 'make it so'. They were very considerate about any dietary restrictions. Out of eight courses, the cherry blossom lotus root in bamboo leaf, the toro nigiris, and the uni chirashi were standouts. Everything was colorful, creative, even playful. The first time I've ever had wasabi air. ;) Book a table. The best omakase I've had in the bay.

Yelp
Dining perfection! The 8 course menu was very well thought out and presented incredibly well. Two nigiri courses were sandwiched in between amazing dishes that made my mouth dance throughout the 2 hours or so of the evening. Absolutely worth a splurge if you're an aficionado of Japanese/sushi.

Yelp
I went here for a double date. They had both table seating and chef's counter. The waitress was very and gave a great recommendation on a sweet sake. The presentation of all the foods were beautiful. When I omakase, I like to take each bite with my eyes closed to focus on the flavors and textures. I was amazed with the food! Each bite was like fireworks! It was so flavorful and packed a punch. An explosion in my mouth! Yum!
google avatar

Yelp
My husband booked two seats here at the last minute for us. It looks like the entire place can seat up to 5 parties, 4 of those parties being parties of 2 at the sushi bar. The entire meal from start to finish is amazing. It's beautiful, fancy without being over-the-top, and she uses beautiful garnishes that also accentuate the taste of each bite. Her use of acids (vinegar, citrus) in the salads, rice, palette cleansers is spot on. I liked each coursed, but my favorites were the Black Cod, Chef's Choice Nigiri (both dishes of it!) and the Khombu Umami Broth. I can easily eat those items again for dinner tomorrow! Overall a great place, and a good value for $100pp these days for the quality you get from it.

Yelp
I brought my daughter to celebrate academic success, the service was incredible, the food was out of this world. Definitely recommend for a celebration or special occasion. I cannot wait to come back and experience again!

Yelp
Another omakase place I wanted to try that's not in SF. Decent price for the amount of food served. I think it was $100 for 8 courses? You pay for everything via QR code so that's convenient. The restaurant itself is very small and we were seated at the bar. The location is easy to find. I think it depends on your reservation time, but ours was at 5pm so parking wasn't an issue yet. I think if you choose closer to 7pm around dinner time, then parking could be a bit hectic. I'm not sure if I'd come back, but I'm glad I tried it to be able to make that determination. My favorite would be nigiri and the soup towards the very end. Everything else didn't stand out to me. Who knows, I'll probably change my mind if they change up their menu in a few months.
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
I rarely give out 5 stars...but the taste is there, the value is there, the service is there, the experience is there. Authentic and fantastic set course that isn't purely comprised of sushi (though I wouldn't mind if it was). Think crystallized bread, dumplings, even plum soda palette cleanser. Don't second guess getting the bottle of sake if you think you won't finish it, because they let you take it home.
google avatar

Yelp
Woe unto you if you need to contact this place. Voicemail box is full and no one picks up. Plea to the management. Everyone has things happen they can't control. Please create a channel so people can contact you. We had a sickness in the family. Tried to call to see if we could negotiate our reservation into takeout boxes. I understand if they couldn't accommodate, but no one picking up the phone? Thats just slamming the door in your customer's faces.

Yelp
Covid 19 adjustments: seating was limited, plexiglass dividers at the counter, mask requirement Food: amazing as usual! Fresh and impressive presentation Service: they were realllly nice and no issues

Yelp
I don't usually give restaurants 5 stars unless I am truly that impressed. This restaurant did exactly that. I've had Omakase sets before but this one was quite unique and did not disappoint. From the service to the presentation everything was great! I liked that each course was well throughout from the taste to the beautiful presentation! The restaurant is very small which makes it intimate and that much more memorable! I would come back for the next menu :)

Yelp
I think Delage is good/fair for the overall value. This place was on my list for a while, and I was hoping it'll blown my taste buds away. While I thought the price was fair, and I walked away satisfied, I am not sure if I would go back. I thought the courses was decent, but nothing really stood out to me with the exception of the cod katsu in house sauce. So overall, decent experience, just not sure I'll go back
google avatar

Yelp
overall fresh nigiri & maki rolls, pricy for the size & quantity (even when you compare to other higher-rated omakase places) Delicious? Yes Will I reorder from here? Maybe Should you visit? Yes, come give Delage a try Make no mistake, the nigiri is fresh & full of flavor. The fish is high quality, the sushi rice is perfect, and each nigiri is at least seasoned well. However, besides the fatty tuna, each cut of fish was thin & small in size. Did they run low on fish that day? The uni was too runny & uneventful. A plus on the soy sauce pipette, life-saver --6 pieces of nigiri + maki roll + 1 mini donburi w/ ikura & uni = ~$50 (not including tips and a hidden COVID fee that they add on automatically) This place would've fared better if they lowered the price considering the size & quantity of the nigiri, OR increased the nigiri count by 2-4 pieces (& keeping the cost the same). Ie (base cost) --Omakase offers 15 large pieces of nigiri, beautifully executed for $120 --Oma SF station offers 25 delicious nigiri of similar size to Delage for $100 --Mujiri, w/ similar sized nigiri, 7 pieces of nigiri for $25 --Sachi Sushi, ~12 large pieces of nigiri for $45 --and etc But I get it, good sushi costs $$$, and you should try out all the 'good' sushi places you can before making your own judgment. With that said, Delage is still a good sushi place to try out & see for yourself :)

Yelp
Really great meal at Delage. Super creative dishes, and a perfect amount of food with the 8-course tasting menu. It was a nice, quiet environment, where you got to watch the chef artfully make the sushi. I was particularly impressed with the cod dish. It was maybe a bit overpriced, but overall was very happy with the meal!

Yelp
Mikiko Ando does it again! I dined here with my husband, sister, and a friend to do a very belated celebration of all the things we couldn't celebrate during the pandemic. This was the last restaurant we ate at in 2020 prior to everything shutting down and our lives drastically changing over the last couple years, and one of the first to dine inside again after everything is starting to look brighter. I'm so happy this restaurant survived and is still operating. $100 for a prix fixe omakase menu, and this time you pre-pay and view the drinks menu on your phone. The April 3rd menu consisted of the following 8 courses: 1. amuse-bouchée: crystal bread with smoked salmon 2. first course: seasonal fruit salad with pear, blood orange, mixed greens, beet cream (WOW!), onion pearls, ponzu honey, shichimi rice chips, edible flowers, etc. 3. second course: unagi (eel) sushi and cherry blossom avocado sushi wrapped in bamboo leaf 4. third course: four pieces of nigiri sushi - bluefin tuna (mmm), ocean trout (yum yum! YUM!), katsuo skipjack, and octopus 5. palate cleanser: sparkling plum juice with yuzu foam (oh my goodness) 6. fourth course: steamed gindara (black cod), slow cooked pokato, green chickpea miso sauce (wooooow) - and it looked like a pond of koi fish! 7. fifth course: two mini bowls of chirashi 8. sixth course: four pieces of nigiri - tai, halfbeak, aji (Spanish mackerel), and ama ebi (shrimp) 9. seventh course: kombu umami broth with yuzu zest and arare 10. eighth course: pomegranate mochi with soft raw chocolate, kuromitsu (Japanese black honey), and fresh fruits A lovely 2-hour dining experience. They have even less seats (about 10 per seating, so total 20 people per evening) than before the pandemic, so make your reservations ahead of time and prepare for a lovely, beautifully presented and delicious Japanese meal from an extremely talented female sushi chef.

Yelp
One of the more unique omakase spots in the Bay Area. Presentation was beautiful and it was very filling

Yelp
We got takeout from Delage for date night last Friday. Super easy to order directly through their website (go direct if you can of course!). We ordered: - Omakase sushi - Bara chirashi - Washugyu tataki - Mini uni ikura don - Tedorigawa Kinka Nama - My all time favorite sake! Burst of fruity and floral notes - just delish! Overall, the food was fresh and so good. I'm sad we didn't dine-in, but will definitely do so when we can. I would say my favorites were the bara chirashi and the washugyu tataki. I love how the washugyu tataki came with a soft boiled egg. We split it open and dipped the beef in the yolk and sauce provided. YUM!! I really love how they give you the droppers for the soy sauce. It makes me not want to dip my sushi in soy sauce anymore, but instead, have a dropper handy ;). Also, they have a great sake selection at very reasonable prices.

Yelp
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed with my take-out bentos from Delage. My wife and I ordered the omakase and chirashi bentos and neither left a strong impression on us. Though the fish was fresh, sushi rice was well-made, uni was sweet, tamago technique was good, etc., there was nothing that stood out enough for us to recommend visiting Delage over another place that offers omakase. The use of gold flakes on the tuna nigiri was a good attempt to distinguish the piece from the other nigiri in the bento, but it felt unnecessarily grandiose and extravagant given the mundaneness of everything else. I was actually a bit offended that there was cucumber maki included in the bento, as this is not the type of filler you'd expect in a bento in this price range. One thing I appreciate about Delage is their thoughtfulness in including a gluten-free soy-sauce option in the take-out bag, and a pipette for applying the soy sauce on your meal. I would definitely like to see more Japanese sushi restaurants packaging up their meals this way. I believe that omakase bentos can be successful, and Oma Station in San Francisco is a exemplary example of that. Each piece included in the bento there is thoughtfully prepped and constructed: rather than simply slapping a piece of fish on top of sushi rice, some pieces are kissed by a blow torch, others receive a brush of ponzu sauce, etc. For $55 a bento, excluding tax + tip, I would expect a little bit more. If Delage manages to survive the pandemic, I would love to give them another try when indoor dining opens up again.

Yelp
The omakase here is incredible. Everything you eat tastes amazing and so fresh. The service here is so wonderful as well.

Yelp
I made a dinner reservation for a party of four a month in advance and requested for chef counter seating. The day of my reservation, I was notified that I would not be allowed counter seating as they were fully booked (there are only 8 seats total for the counter). I then asked why I was only hearing about it now as I booked a month in advance. Even if the other parties reserved before me, then I should have been notified much sooner. Timing matters because cancellations at Delage are only free up to 48 hours in advance - it costs $100 per person afterwards. After bringing this point forward, Delage said they will switch my party with another party at the bar and make it work. While I really appreciated the effort to help my party sit at the counter as I previously requested, this really shouldn't have happened and if I were the other party already at the bar, I would have also felt that this was unfair. This issue was really the only reason I took off a star. The dinner itself was beautiful, delicious, perfectly portioned, and very worth the price ($100 per person before tax+tip). I also loved that the view from the counter was great from every angle! Each plate was very aesthetic and we loved that there was a lot of variety throughout the menu. For the nigiri, the otoro and unagi were my favorites. I thought it was really interesting that the fish served here were more unique - for example, they did not serve salmon like I was expecting, but they did have flounder which I never had at omakase before. My favorite course overall was the fifth- the two chirashi bowls. I absolutely love uni and salmon roe over rice and it did not disappoint! Our server was also very quick and always refilled our water glasses. She also led our friend to the nearest bathroom at the market next door -Delage does not have a bathroom inside the restaurant itself.

Yelp
There's not much I can say about the omakase that hasn't already been celebrated -- the food was divine! I came here with a friend to celebrate my birthday, particularly because they are so accommodating for gluten-free patrons like myself. The waitress was kindly reassuring when I asked for confirmation that some items were indeed gluten free -- I'm not used to being so well taken care of! I don't go out for Japanese often anymore because not being able to have gluten usually means I'm stuck with relatively bland options, as many average places pre-marinade using shoyu (contains wheat) instead of tamari (does not contain wheat). It was a real treat to enjoy shiso leaf and ume in unexpected places, and I haven't had chirashi in years, let alone uni chirashi! The only area for improvement is around pacing, as we felt a bit rushed, and yes, I understand dining time is limited to 2 hours. My friend and I were the last ones served for most of the courses and when we received our dessert (with a much appreciated "happy birthday" decoration and a candle! thank you!), the waitress let us know we only have 5 minutes left. I would have liked to have savored the sweet treat a bit more, particularly because I rarely indulge in such sweets, and I would have been happy to skip the broth course to have made that happen.

Yelp
A+ for presentation and service. I really enjoyed the dining experience and thought the staff was great. However, for the $$$, the sushi didn't blow me away and I've definitely had better sushi for less $$$. It is definitely worth it for a special occasion, but I won't be rushing back.

Yelp
High quality omakase at its finest. Each of the eight courses were beautifully presented, and timed just right so you were never waiting too long, but had enough time to have a conversation. The quality of the fish was excellent, and even the simple dishes like the palette cleanser yuzu juice was superb. There was a mix of classics like fresh nigiri, but also some interesting dishes like the cabbage roll which came in a creamy miso sauce. The photos do more justice than these words. The part that was missing that would have made it five star is that the bar was much lower than the chef station, and it was hard to actually see what the sushi chef was making, which in my opinion is half the fun of sitting at the bar at an omakase. Similarly, it would have been nice if the chef spoke conversed with us during the dinner, either explaining the dishes or what she was doing, or even just talked about being a sushi chef, which I also think is part of the fun of sitting at an Omakase bar. Overall, nice Omakase experience with good food. You won't leave here with a full stomach, but the food is good.

Yelp
In all fairness, the food is as good as I always remember. Creative, beautiful and tasty. The service is absolutely ridiculous. Our waitress talked over me when I tried to explain to her my experience last four days of trying to add a fourth person in. She kept talking over me and didn't let me speak. So this review is strictly to get the managers attention. Long story short, I wanted to add a fourth person onto my reservation. I made attempts on the daily basis for four days to call the number that was listed on Resy in order to change my reservation. No one responded. The voicemail was full so the next thing I did was I attempted to contact the owner via Instagram. Didn't work either. I contacted two times and nobody responded to me. Then I finally found on the website it says the best way to contact us is it email us. So, I emailed. Sure enough, I got a phone call back and she said they they cannot accommodate the fourth person at 7 PM and my reservation was at 8PM. I reluctantly told the fourth person that we cannot accommodate her. I showed up at the restaurant and sure enough there was plenty of space to accommodate the 4th but I do understand that maybe there was just not enough ingredients so I didn't say anything. As I finish my dinner, I decide to say something to the waitress. She did not even allow me a word in. Thus this review. If I were the owner, or manager, I would make an attempt to contact me to see what can be done so they can create a better experience for such a phenomenal restaurant. I really want it by speaking up after my dinner place to make sure that if the phone number is not a good number to call, take the phone number off all sources, including Resy, including yelp. There was clearly not enough information that showed that emailing was the most effective. The second thing I would recommend, is to have a serious training session with your waitress to teach her with customer service is all about. Talking over your customer is not the right thing to do. Sorry if I am coming across extremely upset, and very passionate about how I feel. Being in the restaurant business for over 30 years, I understand the hardships of operating a restaurant. This is not to say I will not support the restaurant again, I just hope that honest measures are being taken to make it a better client experience. Lastly, the bill was taken care of prior to us even starting dinner. Needless to say we ended up giving 20% gratuity but if I had a choice to pay at the end of my meal she would've not gotten 20%. Overall great food. Kudos to the chefs. But horrendous customer service.

Yelp
Located in the downtown Oakland area Delage offers surprisingly reasonable omakase (8 courses for 70$). This was my first omakase and I was quite happy with the overall experience. My husband and I dined at Delage last month and enjoyed our date night a lot. It's a small restaurant with ~6 tables and few spots at the sushi bar. So you definitely need to make a reservation. Service was good and the servers were attentive and also explained each course well. The dinner gives you a nice peak at different styles of Japanese food. The sushi was fantastic! The fish was fresh, and delicious. Other than the sushi courses, it's nice to see that the chefs included a couple of different veggie dishes. The assorted cauliflower dish was my next fav followed by the miso soup. The most disappointing dish was the dessert - the cantaloupe pudding with matcha cream was just plain bad. It was just very sad that after a great meal we had to end it this way.

Yelp
Beautifully intimate space without feeling crowded. Each course was amazing and very well worth the price. I can see myself coming back many times.. great experience!

Yelp
What can I say, the entire experience was just phenomenal! Delage occupies a tiny and intimate store space in Oakland. I made a reservation on a Sunday night, and sat at the bar area. Upon seating, you're handed with the menu of the day with options for additional add ons (duck egg, uni donburi, and seared toro steak). I'm not going to give a rundown of every dish, but here are my highlights of the night: - ikasumi noodle salad: such a pleasant first dish! A salad sounds simple, but every bite was packed with so much yet different flavors - Chef selection 4 piece sushi: high quality fish, and absolutely delicious. Loved the chef's pairings both times the 4 piece sushi was served. Had a great night overall. The waiters and waitresses working that night were all very nice and explains each dish as they were served. Definitely want to come again for another omakase experience at Delage!

Yelp
I went here for a birthday a pre-Covid, haven't been back yet, but I still talk about this place. Anyone headed to the Bay, I always recommend it to. Aside from the cozy atmosphere, the dishes itself are works of art. It was almost too pretty to eat. The courses are spaced out the right amount of time. I think for such a memorable experience the price was way more than worth it. I've had more omakase experiences, but Delage is up there for me. Enjoy!

Yelp
Delage never disappoints. The food is excellent, presentation is outstanding and service is great. I make it a point to dine here every time I visit and will continue to do so.

Yelp
We had a reservation last night for 8pm and were turned away and charged $400. Our host had arrived on time and the rest of our party had been delayed because of an accident on the Bay Bridge. Even though one of our party was st the restaurant and assured them the rest of the party would arrive before 8:30, they absolutely refused to seat us. We asked that they simply start the meal so as to not delay the staff and also asked that they could simply bring the food out faster if they wanted. The hostess, who was quite rude and obviously annoyed that we had encountered traffic and inconvenienced her, told us that she wouldn't seat us because she dodn't want her staff to have to stay late just to serve us. We still politely offered that we would happily end they meal at their closing time and wanted to inconvenience no one. The chef then came over and said there was no exception to late parties for any reason. They immediately cancelled our resevation. And then moments lter received an alert from our credit card company that we had been charged $400. What kind of restaurant cancels a customer's reservation and then charges them $400? Our party would have arrived only 15 minutes after their 8:15pm cut off. $400 for 15 minutes. Clearly this restaurant cares only about getting paid and will walk over any customer to get their money. We will never, ever rebook to return to Delage or their sister restaurant Utzutzu.

Yelp
I would avoid like the plague. I had to cancel a reservation at the last minute due to testing positive for covid-19 They charged me $200.00 Absolutely criminal. I guess next time I'll show up and spread disease through the restaurant. Shameful establishment. They should be embarrassed. I was going to return the 27th with a larger group but I think I'll take my money elsewhere.

Yelp
Wow -- exceptional experience. Always great but Delage 2023 is in the zone. Great variety. Nice folks. Wonderful creativity. And delicious.

Yelp
I made a dinner reservation to celebrate a birthday. It was pretty easy to make a reservation online. They leave the door locked so if you are early you will be standing outside. The waitress let us in and at first I was disappointed that we were seated at the lone table insteead of the bar. However, we appreciated having more space. There was only one waitress and she did a great job remembering everything on the menu and attending to all the parties. It cost $100 for a prix fixe omakase menu. When you sit down you pre-pay and and order drinks from the menu on your phone. The 8 courses with an apetizer and palate cleanser. They were all so unique and beautiful. I was so confused when they put the crystal bread on the table but it was really good and I liked the crunchy texture. The salad was probably one of my favorite dish of the night. The flavors and textures were really fresh. I loved the citrus and beet cream with the crispy chips in it. I didn't enjoy the second course which was 2 pieces: unagi and lotus root wrapped in a bamaboo leaf. There wree two courses of nigiri and they were all solid. The palate cleanser was a little cup of sparkling plum juice with yuzu foam. That was really refreshing! The fourth course was steamed gindara black cod, slow-cooked potato, and green chickpea miso sauce. This was my favorite dish of the entire meal. I tried to make sure I got everything in each bite. It was so satisfying. The fifth course were little bowls of chirashi. These were okay but nothing special. I didn't like how small the fish was cut. After the second nigiri plate we got a kombu umami soup. They had some crunchy rice cracer bits. It felt funny to eat the soup with such a tiny spoon. The last coruse was a pomegrante mochi that was filled with cholate, honey and fruits. That was a nice way to end the meal and wasn't too sweet. Overall, I liked the non-sushi dishes the most since they were unique. I'd probably go again for a special occasion.

Yelp
There is only enough seating for one group of four. All the seats are sushi bar except for one table. There are two seatings each evening. You order beverages and pay through a QR code so make sure your phone is fully charged. They only serve wine, sake and beer, no cocktails. Wine are mostly by the bottle. All white or rose. There are about a dozen options. Corkage fee is $40 but with their limited options, it may be worth while if you want something outside what they offer, There were eight courses. Most courses were bite size but it was beautifully presented and the taste is phenomenal. The flavors are carefully paired with all the items they selected. It's also well balanced and not overwhelming so you can taste the main dish. For example, the nigiri already has soy sauce and wasabi. It's mild that you can taste the spice but also the fish. If you prefer to have tons of wasabi or soy sauces it's not happening. The menu advise the maximum seating time is two hours but since we were at the last seating, 8 pm, we were not rushed and it did take almost 2 1/2 hours for the meal. The first 15 minutes was figuring out we need to order our drinks via QR code and deciding based on the limited selection. The space is decorated with shelves of old cassette players and cassettes, nostalgic 80s. It's simple and you definitely notice the simplicity by the size and lack of restaurant name in the building or door. You can easily walk pass the entrance if you are not looking for it.

Yelp
If I were rich, I would try all of the best omakases in the world. I will settle for my localities for now. Delage is one that unsuspectingly sits next to the Swan Market food court in Old Oakland. I've been wanting to try it and it's at a reasonable price, if you compare it to others. Be sure to make reservations as it is a smaller establishment with limited seatings. We were lucky to score a table for 4 in the back. Of course, we wanted to start off with sake, which paired nicely with some of our dishes. We had a delicious 12 courses (including a few freebies that we appreciated. The pictures really speak for themselves. I remember the superb quality, meticulous presentation, and creative flavors that were served. I really enjoyed the fresh nigiris plates, esp. toro, the playful egg, and the tender duck. I already have a few lucky folks that I want to return here with. We even got a photo with the chef and owner!

Yelp
Great fine dining sushi experience! I'm all for fancy eating out, yet still have much to learn when eating at $$$$ bougie places. Went here for date night and the spot was intimate, chill and didn't come off as pretentious. The waitresses (do we even call them that, fancy servers?) were super cute and explained each course. I think we had like 8 courses or so, additionally with a toro side which was SO SO GOOD. I felt like I was back in Japan, minus all the Japanese amazing people. The servers even told you how to eat the food, in order from left to right, backwards up and down whatever (that's a little too much info, felt like I was following directions in SoulCycle). The presentation was beautiful, the sake was great, the sushi was wonderful. Yes, a little pricey but the experience was a WIN. Definitely suggest if trying to impress someone, or just having some fine dining experiences in Oak-town. KAMPAI!

Yelp
OU DANG that's some fancy plating! Delage is a pretty fancy mid-scale omakase restaurant in Old Oakland. They serve 8 courses and offer 3 supplement additions for their dinner menu. Priced at $65 per person for dinner, it's probably the most affordable omakase sushi experience you'll have in the Bay Area. For the style and creativity of this place, I'd say it's worth it. For the quality, maybe not. It's still very fresh, but I feel like I've tasted more deliciously prepared sushi before for the same price. Even some sushi spots like Amami in San Bruno had better tasting fish. I enjoyed the sake that we picked a lot. We chose the Daiginjo Tedorigawa Iki na Onna for $11.50. I especially loved that they provided you with the sake box underneath so that they can overfill your sake cup without it spilling everywhere. The amuse bouche in the beginning was delightful and had a seared tuna underneath the foam. The salad was refreshing and had a sriracha kick to it. The Chef's Choice Sashimi was just your typical tuna and white tuna slices, but when mixed with the ponzu, thinly sliced green onions and spicy radish, there was a whole new flavor profile. Of all the sushi pieces we ate, the Chutoro had to have been one of the better pieces (of course). The piece of chutoro was so shiny it almost didn't seem real. You can choose to add three dishes as a supplement to your meal. There's the Toro for $20, the Chawanmushi for $7 or the Uni Don for $10. My friend and I wanted to try the toro and the uni so we got one of each to share. The toro dish was very disappointing. It was three pieces of seared toro with garlic and a ponzu mixture, but it didn't taste like fatty tuna. It didn't feel like it melted in your mouth like toro usually does, and felt more like seared maguro. My favorite has to be the Uni Don, I wish we got one per person cause the uni was so yummy. Our meal came out to be $115 per person after drinks, supplements, tax and tip. It was nice to come here and try it at least once because I pass by so often. The experience was very fancy and I felt a little bit spoiled because of how intricate some of the dishes were. But I personally would enjoy paying a little more for Hinata in SF for better quality of fish and also better experience because you get to interact with the sushi chef. Although, I can't wait to try Utzutzu, the sister restaurant located in Alameda!

Yelp
The restaurant is tiny, their price was decent, $65 Omakase per person, $6.50 for 12oz Asahi, we even order an additional order of Toro 3 pieces for $20. All the sashimi pieces were thinly sliced not sure if that's called Sashimi? Or was it Carpaccio When is thin like that. Wait, the menu said it's Sashimi!!! The Nigiri all had soy sauce brushed on top, which means they were trying to cover up the fish that are not so fresh. Also nigiri pieces were super thin too. I have had many raw fish in my lifetime and I can tell you some of the fish pieces served today were not Fresh tasting! You know is not fresh when you get that fishy after taste in your mouth after. Fresh fish are sweet and clean cut tasting. None of that fishy smell.  Some of the other dishes in our 8 course meal were Mehh. Less than ok tasting meaning... flavorless or too salty. I gave it one star for easy to make reservations, one star for location and one star for the waiters, 3 total stars. Other than that the food was typical minus some of the fancy placement and extras on the plates. We were still hungry when we left and honestly it did not hit the Spot! Maybe we came on a bad day? I am not sure but this experience was a little disappointing.
