The Best Delis for Smoked Meat in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Located in Pointe-Claire, the cramped quarters of this smokehouse produce a product that many locals in the area swear by, with some going so far as to say that it gives Schwartz’s a run for its money. At the very least, Delibee’s stands out for its willingness to use Montreal smoked meat in Reuban sandwiches, in addition to cooking up Texan-style brisket and St. Louis-style ribs. Consider also grabbing a seat at the Mayfair Tavern next door; order from a server and enjoy your food with a cold one." - JP Karwacki

Really enjoyed the food and the dining area! I love the old-fashioned décor and don’t find it run-down at all. It was a hot day, and the AC in the restaurant worked perfectly. We ordered a quarter chicken leg (smoked) and a smoked meat sandwich — both were delicious! The fries and sauce were also excellent! Would come back often!

I was very disappointed with the smoked meat sandwich. The smoked meat was machine sliced, cold, tough and chewy. The flavor was acceptable but the texture was all wrong. Without exaggeration, it was one of the worst smoked meat I've ever had. The fries were made from fresh potatoes but they were mush and lacked any character. Seats are in serious need of new upholstery. Frankly, I am puzzled by so many positive reviews.

We were a (party of four this time) and all of us were really satisfied with the smoked meat sandwiches. The meat was tender and not salty, with the perfect amount of spices. The fries are cut on the premises and are just like mother use to make. Staff is pleasant and smiling. Very cozy decor. Plenty of free parking.

Amazing smoked meat! Loved every bite. Poutine was top tier as well. Restaurant itself was quite small and old, lots of wear everywhere. But the food was good so it makes up for it

Sadly I have to make a negative review It is the 3 rd time we’ve eaten there in 2 years. Staff is nice and friendly, place is rundown but it’s part of its charm. Let’s talk about the smoked meat ( which is supposed to be their specialty.) My husband and I ordered each a medium smoked meat special. The meat was sliced uneven, with some meat, sliced thin, and some so thick my teeth could not chew on it. It was like a big piece of rubber. Also, I understand that there is some fat when you order it medium, but this was mostly fat and every time I took a bite, I had to spit out the meat. So for the second half I actually opened the sandwich and picked at it. I did not report it I did not complain about it, but it’s enough that I would never go back there and order a smoke meat. In the past it was just OK but now this is like, whoever made the sandwich put everything in it, including the part that I would personally throw in the garbage, not serve that to anyone. Too bad it has a nice reputation, but the smoke meat was just awful.

Google
I cannot believe that there are some positive reviews for this place. It's like we did not eat in the same place. The smoked meat was terrible, dry , chewy with some cold fat. The coleslaw was old, and the fries looked like they were cut by a 5 year old. Deceiving.

Google
Place is rundown. Meat is dry, lukewarm and cut too thick. Maybe it's the old-fashioned style, but i didn’t like it. Very disappointing. Not sure about the cleanliness of the place.

Delibee's is a great place to have lunch. The place was clean, and the staff was friendly. Our sandwiches were delicious!!! We'll definitely be going back to try the other dishes.

Yelp
Montreal is the world capital of smoked meat. No one dares debate this fact. However, even in the smoked meat capital of the world, there are different grades of smoked meat. You cn settle for low budget diners and have-all restaurants that go cheap and offer Lesters which tastes, feels, and looks like it was injected with formaldehyde or you can experience smoked meat the way it was supposed to be. Montreal offers no shortage of classic smoked meat joints. Delibees is one that really stands out. Leave Schwartzs for the tourists. If you want insanely good meat that doesnt require you to wait an hour in line around the block, then check out this hidden diamond in the rough in the Valois Village in Pointe Claire. This place has two locations connected each other: a dingy dive bar (not the good kind) and the diner side. Food is the same but youre better off entering the deli. This meat is unbelievable: juicy, tender, and full of flavour. Ive yet to have a bad experience at this place. While another unnamed west island smoked meat hub has gotten progressively more expensive over the years with a slight downtrend in quality to accompany it, Delibees has managed to hold its own. Every Montrealer, especially west islanders, owe it to themselves to try this place out.

Yelp
Just found out about this place through this app. Great cozy little deli in this cute little neighborhood. Very charming. Tried their smoked meat platter which had the best crispy fries ever. Mium Mium everything. Will definitely be back instead of going all the way to Ile Perrot.

Yelp
A nice throwback: nostalgic decor, wooden benches, unpretentious space, even an old plastic Shriners donation box in the shape of a crippled kid. Kitchen shared with the tavern next door, which slowed our service, forgivably under the circumstances (we came off-peak hours). But the food is good. We had the Mayfair special named for the adjacent tavern (all dressed hot dogs and your choice of potatoes; I chose latkes). My youthful companion had a toasted Montreal bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. No capers, which disappointed, but still tasty. And the Shirley Temple was well done. Unfortunately, they presented the bill without a pretax subtotal, and does not provide credit card stubs with a tip line; bring a calculator.

Yelp
Small and dated look. Guess it's part of their charm? Service was good but Meh. One and done for me.

Yelp
Something has happened. Delibee used to be a great place for the traditional Montreal smoked meat and fries but the last few times we've ordered take-out - the quality has been sub-par and the fries went beyond good old fashioned slightly greasy fries to some sort of grease soaked potato substance. We haven't given up on them but it will be a while before we order again. Hopefully, this is a temporary glitch in quality.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this place. The smoked meat was juicy and delicious. Very comparable to Schwartz's and the main. Worth the trip!

Yelp
One of the best smoke meat sandwiches in Montreal. The fries are also great. Perhaps only Pete's Smoke Meat on île Perrot is better. Both in my opinion put Schwartz's to shame. It s a small restaurant so it files up over the lunch hour.

Yelp
In Highschool I used to go here quite often for lunch. They have good french fries and subs, also their smoke meat sandwich is pretty hype too. I was able to afford going to this place when I was in Highschool so you know the prices are good. If you go for lunch during he week expect to see a lot of kids from the local Highschool.

Yelp
Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. I enjoy the Montreal standard that is Schwartz but I'm sorry Delibee's is a cut above, the smokiness, the tenderness, the taste. So good. Don't expect that watery generic mushy type smoked meat people think is real "Montreal" smoked meat like you get at casse croutes throughout the city, this is the real deal along with Schwartz. Their fries, hand cut red potatoes are top notch as well. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees.

Yelp
Not as good as it used to be. Salty and dry... I took the medium smoke meat and it was very dry, so i wonder how the lean would me. The place has a nostalgic feel to it... But they really have to get their act together. Based on my last meal, i think you can get better smoke meat at any other fast food joint.

Yelp
Around six years ago my friend and I were walking home late at night. We entered Delibee's for a snack to go, but the owner or manager told us he had just closed. As we walked away he asked what we would have ordered, to which we said fries. So he made us fries, on the house, and we ate them on our way back home. This memory flashed back to me today and I wanted to let this person know we still remember it, and thank you again.

Yelp
Way overpriced for the size of sandwich served. Including taxes 12$ for a TINY sandwich and home fries. And if you order lean the "owner/cook" will give you end pieces or the shavings. If you order the "special" they add a canned drink, coleslaw and pickle for 17.50$ tax incl. Similar smoke meat places will give you TWICE the amount for the prices they are charging. Amazing they are still open...
