Best Tamales in Austin | Eater Austin

"The tamale shop with two Austin locations, this in East Riverside and the other up in Scofield Farms, offers all sorts of tamales to-go. The San Antonio-based chain carries traditional chicken, jalapeño-bean, and pork tamales as well as a variety of new takes on the husked treats, like the Southwestern-style vegetarian tamale with corn and black beans and the atomic tamale, which is packed with pork and heat-heavy ghost peppers. Takeout orders can be placed online; there is national shipping; and a bunch of third-party delivery options (Uber Eats, Grubhub, DoorDash)." - Nadia Chaudhury

Make the trip to anywhere else but here. Not worth the drive and they are a complete disappointment. They lack flavor, make you feel like crap after eating a few, and they are not even the size of your finger. Not worth the money. Do not waste your time. They are also made with poor ingredients. Check out the ingredients list in the pictures.

Google
These tamales are absolute trash. Flavor, there is none, and look at the size. For a place with the name of Delicious Tamales, the expectation is that they're yummy. They're not. They're small, dry and flavorless. Keep your money. And the customer service was atrocious. The worker was on her phone the entire time, she could give two pits what was happening. And massively rude, you could tell she didn't wanna be there. I don't want that energy on my food. First and last time.

Picked up 2 dozen Pork and a dozen jalepeno chicken before Christmas. I'm not sure how they are considered "Texas size" when they were barely bigger than your index finger. As some of the other reviews said, there was not much meat at all and while the flavors were ok, they were not spectacular. We weren't expecting home made quality, however for the price and their own description we did expect far more than we got. If Delicious Tamales plans to continue marketing these as Texas size and delicious, they need to seriously step their game up. Update.. medium case of food poisoning from this purchase.. please do better.

Google
Short version. Go to Costco, they have frozen dozen that cost the same and taste better. Terrible customer service. Meat was dry. And the servings are comically small. The 5 star reviews are full of it or they don't know anything about a proper tamale. Salsa is trash and they charge you for it. Come here if you want to waste your money

Google
This morning I was very disappointed with my order.. They only had very little hot soi got to dozen cold.. I opened one this morning and they tasted old and were dry and shriveled up. Because we don’t know how old the cold ones are, they should come with a date that they were made and put in the freezer.. they need to rotate their stock to guarantee, you always have the freshest ones. I will wait and see what the second dozen looks like before I decide whether to buy from them again or not.

I happen to drive by this location yesterday. I have been looking for a close by tamale place. This place is fantastic! The service is excellent and the taste is amazing. The pork tamales were absolutely delicious. It's a small little business so give them a try.

Google
I have been wanting tamales for a while and this is the closest place with the highest rating. I ordered half a dozen of bean and cheese. They were burnt! Super small and skinny I ordered a dozen of chicken. Seems to be more masa any chicken inside. For the price I paid I wouldn’t recommend.

We had read about this spot before and were excited to try them. The spot is in a strip mall and their sign is noticeable. After reading reviews from their San Antonio location we were looking forward to a positive experience. My husband went in and ordered. They only offer tamales by the half dozen and the dozen. They didn’t have that many to choose from. He ordered a half dozen of the chicken. They apparently didn’t have any salsa to go with them which just seems unusual. How do you not have salsa? Tamales in Austin and you don’t have salsa? Anyway… we asked for plastic silverware and they simply blew on their fingers implying to use your hands to eat. They did not have any plastic silverware. So no salsa and no plastic silverware… in pretty sure those are two items you need to have a traditional tamale experience. The tamales were okay. They didn’t really stand out or have any memorable flavor. I honestly don’t think I’d go back. Lastly, they were TINY… like half the size I usually would expect a tamale to be. Pretty mediocre experience. Don’t see them lasting long if they don’t fix a few things.

Yelp
Heard about these tamales in December. Apparently they are famous San Antonio tamales for 40 years, and they just recently opened an Austin location. The person that recommended them has been a patron of the San Antonio location for years, and she was so excited they were expanding to Austin. Stopped by there today, and had a great visit. The shop is super clean and organized! The gentleman behind the counter was extremely pleasant and helpful. I didn't want to get too crazy, so I picked up a 1/2 dozen of chicken tamales. My friend had the original tamale (pork). The price is AMAZING 1/2 a dozen under $10! That's fantastic almost unheard of! We were both instantly in love with Delicious Tamales! Will definitely return, and try some of the other selections. Thank You for bringing some delicious tamales to Austin!

Yelp
I really want to like this place. The guy at the counter was kind. The tamales just dont quite do it for me. They're small, barely have any filling in them, and on the pricey side. The flavor is good but I've had much better for much cheaper.

Yelp
I have been to several location in san antonio and one in austin. Food is good and little pricey but it is worth it.

Yelp
I had a dozen delivered for my first time ever trying this place and I was very disappointed: the masa was soggy because of too much grease and condensation, and the pork filling was minimal. This was an overall small, soggy, greasy tamale. The pork also didn't taste very fresh. The store didn't even bother to add a small salsa cup which is customary in Mexican/tex-mex cuisine. This could easily be a 1 star review because the tamales are that bad.

Yelp
It was okay they are small the masa was a little dry it's not much meat inside to me HEB makes better ones

Yelp
They are delicious, didn't get a chance to buy some yet. But well before the end of the year!

Yelp
Preordered and picked up on time. I was able to choose different fillings. Service was great. Although there are no tables to eat inside.

Yelp
Fast, friendly and oh so good. The best tamales this side of Nuevo Laredo. Tried the pork and jalapeno. With over 6 million sold storewide they must be doing something right. To paraphrase Arnold, "I'll be back".

Yelp
First time there- had heard alot about the san Antonio location. Just like the name says!!!! The guy behind the counter rolled a few up for me that had just gotten done and he was very personable.. All around great experience.
