"A popular San Antonio tamale chain has opened its first Austin storefront at 1931 East Oltorf, Suite G in the Riverside neighborhood (opened December 13). Founded in 1980 by Valerie Gonzalez near Woodlawn Lake Park, the business has grown to six San Antonio locations and scaled production—its factory reportedly produces more than two million tamales annually—and now offers online to-go ordering and nationwide shipping. The menu highlights classic fillings like chicken, pork, and bean, includes vegetarian choices, and features a notorious “atomic” tamale stuffed with pork and ghost peppers. The Austin shop’s hours are 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday–Saturday and 8 a.m.–3 p.m. on Sundays." - Polly Anna Rocha
