"Delight Wong, one of the author's favorite Chinatown restaurants, remained open for takeout and delivery. It offers over-rice bargains, wonton soup, and rice-noodle rolls made to order." - Robert Sietsema

"For 15 years, I’ve been going to a narrow storefront near the corner of Allen and Grand for my Chinese charcuterie and wonton soup. At first it was called New Manpole, then became Bing Hing Wong, and is now called Delight Wong, with the staff remaining basically the same throughout the duration. Now it’s the refuge of old men, who drink shots of brandy between communally shared dishes that arrive by dumbwaiter from an unseen kitchen. Once, there were dozens of these so-called tea houses or duck shops in Chinatown; now only a handful of these quintessential Cantonese institutions remain." - Robert Sietsema

12.22.22 - cuttlefish beef congee was good, but lacking something that would have made it great. The rice rolls are made to order and very interesting. Overall a great old Chinatown feel to the spot. Next time I’ll try to BBQ meats.

We where in Chinatown and came across Delight Wong in our walk so we decided to get some popular Chinese dishes. We ordered Roast Pork Rice Rolls that are steamed rice wrappers filled with savory roast pork, scallions and other ingredients. The rice wrappers have a soft and chewy texture while the pork being tender and juicy. We also ordered the Steamed rice noodle. The rice noodle was also a soft and chewy with a variety of savory sauces. Both were delicious and satisfying dishes.

Just left this place about 1 min ago and it was awful! Wish I could give a 0 rating. The Food was served on Tupperware covers. I ordered rice and roast duck and the rice was cold and hard; the waitress then microwaved it! The shrimp dumpling were cold-I don’t even know how that happens. Do I didn’t eat the rice or dumplins. The duck serving was quite small. The waitress then got very upset when I said I was not happy. I paid my bill, without a tip and she got even more upset-telling me I should have tipped and she demanded a tip. That’s when I left. This was awful; not sure if I was treated this way because I’m black but diners beware!

I eat here probably weekly. The food is really good and the prices are great. If you’re expecting Ritz Carlton quality at Holiday Inn prices then you’re the one with the problem. This is the most affordable Chinese food you’re going to find and it’s at a price that’s hard to beat. I highly recommend this place.

Google
Friendly service, delicious Cantonese classics. It may not have all the bells and whistles decor-wise, but that's all good: the excellent prices mean that you're not paying for that!

Google
The value you get for the food is really really awesome. Good food at pre inflationary prices. BBQ meats over rice or noodle are good, and dishes over rice are great as well.

Google
One of the more affordable Chinese restaurants in NYC Chinatown. The pricing has gone up minimally in the past couple months and I pass by at least once a week to get a couple of takeout orders for home.

First time here. The duck was fatty and bony. Service was pretty terrible. The lady kept rushing us to eat and leave and told us tipping was required before we even sat down.

Yelp
Excellent hole in the wall for no frills Chinese food. Been coming here for years for roasted meats take out as it's basically the absolute last chance to get decent take out from Chinatown before getting on the m15 to head home. Their Cha siu (buy it by the lb, ask for half fatty) soy sauce chicken (buy it by half chicken) is solid; and lately, I've been getting their rice rolls. They have the traditional street cart type with soy sauce, sweet sauce, and peanut sauce; and they have the fancier steam-pulled type -made to order and available all day. Service is always quick. Staff speak limited English, so be patient!

Lily S.

Yelp
There was no wait so we decided to lunch here. Guess now I know why there wasn't any wait, lol. Service was attentive but the foods didn't have much flavor. The Char Siu was too lean to be called "half fat half lean". The beef chow fun? Just ok. Noodles are sticky and beef was bland, it might as well have been chicken. The most disappointing was the pig liver porridge. It was bloody when brought out and it instantly kills any remaining appetite we had.

Yelp
Didn't expect great customer service. The lady who took my order warned me about ordering same vegetables twice. So I swapped one of my order's veges to tofu instead. I'm glad she told me because the size of the dishes are large for the prices. I got choi sum with oyster sauce $6.00 which wasn't flavorful enough. Fish fillet with tofu upon special request for $8.00 which was very juicy/tender fish and flavorful sauce + rice. Both portions were large. They're a tai shan establishment. I heard them speak it to some customers and others. I do recommend this place for quick and affordable authentic Chinese food lunch Also Yelp hours are wrong. This pla e is opened everyday but on Yelp it's always closed.

Yelp
Delicious Cantonese classics, friendly service, excellent prices. It's not the fanciest place, but these are the spots you'll miss when they're gone (inevitably to be replaced by some middling art gallery or disappointing gringo restaurant/cafe/bar).

Yelp
Cozy neighborhood hole-in-the-wall for your classic Canto food. Honestly not much different from the overhyped Great NY Noodletown - it's just a smaller space and closes earlier. Sometimes I prefer restaurants like these over Noodletown because it offers some dim sum dishes (all day!) in addition to the standard BBQ meats/rice/noodle dishes, and far away from tourists. Even though its tacky paper menu screams inauthentic, Asian American takeout food, don't judge a book by its cover. I've ordered the roast pork rice rolls ($2.75) to go and was so pleasantly surprised with how soft & chewy the wrapping was. I returned a few weeks later for a casual brunch and ordered them again. So delicious! Also got the pork shumai ($2.75) which took a while to come out (we thought they forgot it, and we didn't remind them) but turned out they were probably making it from scratch / just started to steam it after we ordered. They came out more than halfway through our meal, so good and fresh. We also had a Noodle Soup - Stewed Beef Brisket, Tendon & Wontons w/ Broad Rice Noodles - another one of our classics but it was a bit of a let down. Anything with those broad rice noodles is kind of difficult to do right though, so eh I don't blame them. I've had a couple of rice dishes in the past (beef w/ string beans, my fave) and they just hit the spot. Wouldn't say this is the BEST place to get your fix, but it's convenient for me and does the trick for my Canto cravings.

Joel D.

Yelp
The best Congee in Chinatown! Anything I order here is superb. Staff is extremely friendly!

Patty C.

Yelp
This spot has all the rice noodles you desire. It's super smooth and slippery, also prices are VERY affordable! Prices are one of the lowest i've seen so far for rice noodles. They also have very good roast pork and other dim sum options

Julee W.

Yelp
The roast pig was very good It was tricky to understand but they were very helpful when we ordered. We also ordered the Peking duck but would not get that again.

Yelp
Just left this place about 1 min ago and it was awful! Wish I could give a 0 rating. The bathroom was gross. Dirty mop bucket filled with dirty water, leaking faucet, moldy sink that didn't appear to be cleaned in a while. This was hands down the worse bathroom I've been in in NYC and I've been in a few. as if that was enough-the Food was served on Tupperware covers. I ordered rice and roast duck and the rice was cold and hard; the waitress then microwaved it! The shrimp dumpling were cold-I don't even know how that happens. Do I didn't eat the rice or dumplins. The duck serving was quite small. The waitress then got very upset when I said I was not happy. I paid my bill, without a tip and she got even more upset-telling me I should have tipped and she demanded a tip. That's when I left. This was an awful experience-the owners must have paid for that "A" rating on the sticker. I'm not sure if I was treated this way because I'm black but diners beware!

Yelp
The restaurant is really great and is perfect for a midday meal. I've gone here a few times to pick up food for dinner, a bit emptier because they were about to close. Their menu is reasonably priced and very extensive. You'll find classic dim sum dishes along with other traditional Chinese plates. It's a real hidden gem IMO. I'm surprised they don't have more reviews!

H P.

Yelp
Just passed by today and decided to pop in to take some goodies home. Seems like a hidden gem. The place is unpretentious and hole in the wall, but the roast pork rice roll was made to order and sooo delicious! Got the beef congee, fishball rice rolls and shrimp dumplings too, which were all tasty. My favorite though is the roast pork rice roll!!!!! Definitely stop by! Lots of folks from the neighborhood seemed to drop by while I was there. I was busy so didn't eat these until much later at home and even then it's super tasty, so I imagine it would've been even better if I ate it immediately.

Yelp
Good foods (but not super) Good location with friendly service Price is right ! Roast pork is good here , you may try it don't forget ask for free soup when you buy combo dishes

Laurie W.

Yelp
While visiting New York City we were looking for a good Chinese restaurant on China town to have lunch. Let me tell you, I've eaten a lot of Chinese food and this was by far the best General Tso Chicken I have ever eaten. Very friendly service along with great food. I would highly recommend it for a quick and tasty meal....

Serina E.

Yelp
The food is OK & the price is good. Wonton only has meat, not shrimp. The waitress is nice & friendly. We went for a late lunch on a weekday.

Cindy Y.

Yelp
This place has traditional casual Cantonese cuisine. They also have made daily whole roast pork by the pound (or you can preorder whole roasted pig) scallion, soy sauce, and plain (Buddhist style) whole or by the pound chicken, char sui, ribs. It is close to Allen and Grand streets. Service is speedy. No sitting down currently.

Alfred N.

Yelp
I am so glad of this staple In a neighborhood where traditional Cantonese food is being phased out for hotpot and South Asian cousin. I come here more than twice a month to grab dinner because it still has barbeque meats after 7 pm which is when I leave work. The staff is friendly and efficient. The quantity is very sufficient for my appetite compared to others in a more touristy area in Chinatown.

Susan S.

Yelp
I love coming here for the Chinese meats. They have a vast menu for good Chinese dishes. Service here isn't stellar but the food comes pretty quickly.

Richard L.

Yelp
Quick service and cheap pricing with tasty food. What more do you need? Two dishes and it only cost $11.75.

Tom W.

Yelp
The food is not fresh. I ordered beef broccoli and I counted the beef - only 7 pieces. Doesn't make any sense. It was not filled at all.

Man W.

Yelp
Food may taste good but beware of the nasty people who chops the roast items hanging up by the window. I walked in one day and the guys was chewing on something. I asked for a pound of roast pork and 1/2 roast duck. He spits out the bone onto his grey medical glove, grab the meat off the hook, and started chopping. I walked out immediately. Afterward, I have walked by several times after work and notice he is outside smoking with his glove on. One time I even witnessed him walking in with the same glove and didn't wash his hands or change glove and started chopping for a patron. DOH needs to pay this place a visit and just stand outside for a few minutes and see for themselves. They would probably close them down.

Yelp
Move over Congee Village, Delight Wong has been my go-to place for cheap, fresh, and affordable congee topped with scallions and generous portions of sliced beef (or thousand-year egg and salt pork if you prefer). They also serve lots of other comfort food staples like dumplings and roast meats over rice. They are a local hole-in-the-wall, and don't have those Wah Fung lines, but if you know, you know. FYI they are cash only.

Hailey L.

Yelp
Amazing congee. Absolutely amazing taste and texture and much better priced than congee village. Also really recommend beef stew/tendon and their roast meats.

K C.

Yelp
I'm so wowed by this place that i'm going to model by own small eatery after it. The quality food, 'cheap prices', and comfortable seating here is what i love. The chef could probably beat that Bobby Flay if he knew who the fcuk he was....Lol. Every time i eat here the food is consistent, the guy's got skills. The rent and everything is too damn high in NYC, so i will open my eatery in another state or overseas. But everyday i will remember and be grateful to DELIGHT WONG as my champion of serving yummy chinese food to customers who deserve nice food in their little tummies!!

Nicholas Y.

Yelp
I work around the area, and sometimes it's difficult to find a decent classic cantonese restaurant. Although Delight Wong isn't the best restaurant out there, they stay true to their roots. I've been here a couple of times, and their noodle soup is better with each new visit. Perhaps, they're willing to make changes, and maybe that's why, it's better each time. Overall, if you like to eat economically and desire classic Cantonese cuisine, then this is the place for you.

Chyna S.

Yelp
Dry roast pork. Gave me old pieces when there were better looking ones hanging. Rude service and cheap with their sauces. I bought a pound of the pork and asked for extra sauce. She took it back, pretended to add another one and abruptly gave it back to me. AND no garlic ginger sauce!!!Whuuuuuut?!?

Yayemama J.

Yelp
Stay Away! We are regulars in Chinatown - have eaten in most places, high end and dives and this place is definitely the most disgusting I've been to. First of all, they need to hire someone who speaks English because it seemed only one person spoke English and she was running around like a chicken without a head doing everything, including waiting on tables - so you waited a while. Once you ordered, she'd be rushing to take plates away.. not sure why as the place was empty. The food which is written out on the menu is also shown in pictures on the wall. The food which comes to your table is not what you see in the picture. My daughter ordered the lunch special but never received her soup. Her General Tso's chicken had ground up bones and cartilage - and remained uneaten by us. Toward the end of our meal I used the restroom - if that's what you can call it - disgusting! On the way to the restroom, I passed a refrigerator with glass shelving showing rotting vegetables and meat - had I used the restroom first, we wouldn't have stayed here. When the bill arrived, our rushing waitress added our tip - which we decided not to leave her as she didn't once check on us to see if we needed more tea or water. With so many wonderful restaurants and cafes in Chinatown - eat elsewhere.

J L.

Yelp
3 1/2 stars. Service was pretty good.Place was filled with the regulars. Decent place to stop by for a quick lunch. Prices are fair and food is OK. Lots of takeout business and the place had a steady stream of customers.

Raymond L.

Yelp
Beware, I purchased a pound of Roast Pork yesterday morning and the female behind the counter ask if I wanted fat or lean. I asked for lean and when I got home the order looked and tasted like it was left over from yesterday. I'm a Chinese American who speaks mostly English and have noticed some Chinese restaurants, when they see you don't speak Chinese they give you the lesser quality food (I hope they don't do the same to non Chinese customers). I'm not sure if that was the case in this incident, but the food was bad. Shame on them for such poor service.

A Y.

Yelp
They have two types of fried doughs for dipping in congee. Fried crullers and "ox-tongue pastry" (which I never see anywhere else). Good value for money, fast, and wide range of food options. Like that you get a "daily soup" with your rice dishes. One of two hanging meat restaurants in this section of Chinatown now that Chang Wang has closed. Also recommend the fried little white fish.

Phantom R.

Yelp
This is a decent place given the price. They have good dim sum as well. As far as I can see, there is no concerns about hygiene, nor are their service any different than those at other similar restaurants in Chinatown.

Ron H.

Yelp
Had a combo of roast duck and roast pig over rice. The roast duck had a slightly bitter flavor which turned out to be located in the skin. The duck meat itself was tender and flavorsome, if a bit greasy. The roast pig was passable. Rice was on the dry side. Still, for a total of $5.50, I ain't complaining
