The Delta Sky Club at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is a solid and comfortable lounge overall. I wouldn’t say it’s the best Sky Club I’ve ever visited, but it’s definitely a pleasant place to spend time before a flight, especially because of its location. The lounge sits right past security, which makes it extremely convenient and easy to access without having to walk far through the terminal.
The seating is comfortable, the space feels well maintained, and the overall atmosphere is calm and relaxed. One of the highlights of this lounge is the view. From inside you get great ramp views of the aircraft, and depending on where you’re seated you can also see the Washington Monument and the United States Capitol. That’s pretty unique for an airport lounge and adds a lot to the experience, especially if you enjoy watching planes or just want something interesting to look at while you’re waiting for your flight.
There were a couple of small frustrations during my first visit. When I arrived they were serving hot dogs, which were surprisingly good, although they were very small. Unfortunately the service only lasted about five minutes and never returned. I stayed in the lounge for more than two hours and was hoping to grab another one, but when I asked later I was told they would not be bringing them back. That was a little disappointing since it ended up being one of the better food options available at the time.
Another point of confusion was the operating hours. I arrived at Reagan National from Atlanta and wanted to stop by the lounge after landing, which is normally allowed at your final destination. However, the lounge had already closed even though the website suggested it should still have been open. I later learned that the Saturday hours are shorter than Sunday, which was a bit confusing and could probably be communicated more clearly.
That said, I actually returned to this Sky Club again about three weeks after my original visit, and that experience really stood out in a positive way. One of the staff members who clears the plates recognized me from the previous visit and greeted me warmly with “Hey, how are you? Long time no see.” It was such a small thing, but it made the lounge feel much more welcoming and personal. In many lounges, including some larger ones like the Sky Club at San Francisco International Airport, staff often just quietly clear plates without much interaction. Here it felt much more friendly and relaxed.
Another employee working that day mentioned she was from Oakland, California, which was fun because we both had that Bay Area connection. We ended up having a little conversation about it, and she was extremely kind and welcoming.
Overall the staff at this Sky Club were genuinely friendly and personable, which makes a big difference. Some airport lounges can feel a bit cold or rushed, but the team here created a comfortable atmosphere where guests feel noticed and welcomed.
With its comfortable seating, great views, convenient location, and especially the friendly staff, this Sky Club is definitely a nice place to spend time at Reagan National. With slightly more consistent food service and clearer operating hours, it could easily become one of the stronger lounges in the network.
