Vietnamese people love nothing more than a coffee and a long breakfast and this place is just that. It was cracking on an early Saturday morning.
I came here specifically to eat their bò né which is a sizzling platter of steak, pâté, and a fried egg. Bò né options are limited these days - not that many places serve this dish, so I was exponentially excited to try it here.
My sister and I shared the following:
-Bò né ($10.00): a piece of steak, pâté, a fried egg on top of a bed of grilled onions/mushrooms served on a sizzling platter along with a baguette
-bánh tráng tron ($6.00): snippets of uncooked rice paper topped with a medley of things
-house cold cut combo ($9.00): a Vietnamese charcuterie board
I thought the bò né was good, although it was a little too sweet for my liking. Really though. Sweet. But hey, there aren't that many options in Westminster, so you have to make due with what you have.
The house cold cut combo was comprised of rolled lunch ham, salami, some pâté, some pickles, and a fried egg. To be honest, if you're gonna make a Vietnamese charcuterie board, why not use Vietnamese cold cuts? Nam would have been good. Some cha would have been good too. All of these choices would have made more sense than salami and ham.
The bánh tráng tron was nothing I have ever tasted - I believe it's a fairly new Vietnamese creation and there are many versions of this dish. The flavors and toppings here were great, however, the rice paper was SO, SO chewy, it was slightly hard to enjoy this dish. I liked it so-so.
I'd come back. There are some gems on their menu that they don't serve elsewhere.
