On the Grid : Wonder Wheel

"With sweeping arial views, the Wonder Wheel has remained a mainstay and become the iconic symbol of Coney Island since it’s opening in 1920. The 150 foot tall ferris wheel has both stationary cars and ones that slide along the track, creating an uneasy adrenaline rush for riders. The 200 ton structure lights up at night to create an omnipresent circle over the boardwalk." - work x work

Overall great experience. Great rides. Would recommend with family. If you are an adventurous person who likes to get on every ride then definitely get the wristband to save money. If you are not planning to sit in all rides then they have option to pay for ones you want usually ranging from $5-$8 per ride.

I LOVE CONEY ISLAND! The cyclone, Wonderwheel, Sligshot, Thunderbolt,Soaring Eagle... Awesome! I also jog/ bikeride and exercise on the boardwalk because I live a good strong bikeride away!

Deno's is so great!!! Lots of choices for kid's rides, adult rides, and a few thrills too. The Phoenix roller coaster was a hit with our group, and we loved the nostalgic feel of the park. The staff was very helpful too. Marcus at the bumper cars was SO patient and good-humored with our group when we had to find partners for the little kids. It took us a while to get organized for the ride, but with his help we had a blast. Also, I LOVE that you can buy ride cards that are shareable and refillable. The credits don't expire--which means you can come for the afternoon or fit in a few rides if you're doing something else at the beach. We'll definitely be back!!!

Visited Jun 7, 2024 -Dad took me and my brothers 40 years ago and I finally took my 7 daughter here for the first time. My daughter had loads of fun at the kiddie park and we went to the adult side for the bumper cars. I had to sit with her on the ride as she is only 7 so we paid double but it was worth it. Rides are $5 and the adult rides are $8. We bought the $50 card but it wasn't enough so we topped up a few dollars for the last rides. Overall, a great time 👍 I made a video on YouTube and my handle is @wilching. Take a look and if you like it 🙏 please like 👍 and subscribe🔔so I can continue to bring more great content 😊

Yelp
It was the building anticipation of sand and surf on the hour and half trek from Eastern Queens to Southern Brooklyn on the F train, but Coney Island was and is still a special destination from my childhood. Deno's is one of those Coney Island mainstays that conjures up a certain nostalgia and lets you leave your worries behind for awhile enjoying a day of happiness. Coney Island is one of New York's sacred places, and Deno's and the Wonder Wheel should be where you take out-of-town visitors to experience "The Real New York" as opposed to Times Square! Deno's reminds me of simpler and happier times as a child and I'm fortunate to created memories here as a father by bringing my son to Deno's from the time he could walk; I'll certainly cherish all the smiles the children's park brought to his face and I hope I have the opportunity to take my niece and future generations of kids in our family down to Deno's in the years to come. Coney Island, and Deno's, are a throwback to the best of New York City: a place where anyone from any race, religion, and social strata can find reprieve from the hustle and grind of our demanding city. May Deno's continue to thrive forever under the stewardship of the Vourderis who have brought so much joy to generations of New Yorkers and people worldwide who've made the trip to our shared pocket of wonderful in Southern Brooklyn.

Yelp
Took my kids up on the Wonder Wheel...two trips around for $10 bucks did little to impress. The high view was awesome and the amazing breeze was fantastic but two revolutions for $10 was not much to enjoy...especially since there was no line of people waiting and the wheel wasn't close to full. The bumper cars for $8 on the other hand were mostly worth it. These cars are fast and hit freaking hard. I didn't read the signs on the wall and my daughter and I hit my son and my other daughter head on a couple of times. Almost made him cry. He was so mad at me afterwards. Don't believe their ride height signs. The girls were in the green zone and supposedly could drive their own cars. They could not touch the gas pedal so we had to double up. Paying $8 for each of them as non-drivers was a rip off. Ah well...Don't pay for your kids to drive unless they are at least 4'6" tall or they will not be able to reach the gas pedal!

Yelp
Deno's park is next door to Luna park with kiddie rides by the beach and mature rides by the street. They also have a scary/spooky section for older children/adults with the Wonder Wheel that can swing or be stationary; take the swinging one, so much fun! The spooky house was very spooky to me! Go if you're brave! They also have bumper cars. Overall, great amusement park, but higher priced than Luna park. I would say, do the roller coasters, or simple rides in Luna Park to save. Each rides here are about 5 credits which is $5.

Yelp
Deno's what more can I say other than what an awesome park right on the boardwalk! This is totally a family park as well as a park for coaster enthusiasts as they have a ton of kiddy rides as well as that amazing Wonder Wheel and then the cherry on top that super fun Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster Phoenix that has an amazing layout from start to finish with just the right elements to make it a perfect roller coaster for all ages! The two times I've been to this park have been awesome and both times I've met one of the owners DJ and I must say he is very nice and a super cool guy to talk to as you can very much so see his passion for this park runs really high and that right there is what's totally good for an awesome park like this! Overall I'm sure I'll get back to Deno's at some point not sure when but I do know Phoenix will be calling my name until then!

Yelp
Walking into Deno's is almost like stepping back into the Coney Island of the early 20th century. A classic boardwalk amusement park, Deno's combines the best of Coney Island's storied history with some 21st century conveniences to make your park experience easy, enjoyable, and memorable. We were really just there to ride the Wonder Wheel, but the parts of the park we saw looked clean and tidy, the staff was nice, and getting in and on the ride was easy and convenient. The Wonder Wheel is still the classic Ferris wheel that you expect, but these days you load ride points onto a card that they swipe at the entrance to the ride. (The card also makes a cute souvenir. Lol) I had never ridden a Ferris wheel before, and didn't quite know what to expect, but it was awesome!! I tend to be scared of heights, so this ride was a little terrifying, but the cage felt safe and secure and the view was spectacular, so, even if I was a little nervous, I still had a great time. Great place, would love to see it in the summer, I can't imagine how crazy it would be. Definitely worth a trip out to Coney Island to take a whirl on the Wheel!

Yelp
This place is so trashy also filled with trash people. The place is basically a landfill filled with discarded hot dogs, fries, and so much other gunk littered on the ground. I never see any janitors cleaning anything up. The tickets are way over priced as you will get a better deal at 6 Flags. The ride operators sometimes don't check if you are strapped in the ride harnesses and most are very rude. This place has filthy people who run the games and beg you to pay for the game to play then just try to hit on girls. Its nasty. The rides all in all are boring for the most part.

Yelp
If you gonna visit Coney Island you gotta come to Deno's! Its separate from LUNA Park, so don't pay for the crazy priced LUNA Park wrist band price. If you want go to on the WONDER WHEEL, you gotta come to DENO's since its a sperate park right next to the LUNA Park. For those visiting for the first time, and want to go on the iconic rides from Coney, you gotta visit DENO's, you pay per ride and the kids rides are typically 5 tickets each. So if you plan to visit with the family and you have friends they gain access to the park for FREE to SPECETATE which is better than LUNA's charge of $20 for spectators. So you basically pay per ride, which if you pay $100 you get 150 tickets basically. Each ride for the little ones are typically 5 tickets each, the Wonder Wheel is 10 tickets each, so you can do the math and quickly figure out how much you need, plus the tickets you purchase on the card doesn't expire so if you have any left over you can always save them for next time. Also the card is refillable. Keep in mind that the Cyclone is a separate ticket at $10 each. So if you plan to spend the full day in not just ride but with food, and other activities Deno's is your best bet currently. Plus they have the new coaster call The Phoenix which is a great ride. I know the parks are raising the prices on everything so try to bring your own food if you can. Sometimes you might find good deals around the park so keep an eye out.

Yelp
Wonder Wheel I grew up calling this amusement ride a Ferris Wheel. The original Ferris Wheel, sometimes also referred to as the Chicago Wheel, was designed and built by George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. as the centerpiece of the Midway at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. The Wheel I live near in NYC is in Coney Island and it's called the Wonder Wheel. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have ridden. I remember riding the Ferris Wheel every where I've lived growing up. I only had a few bad experiences. It is directly related to the person you ride with! I'm not a fan of someone that likes to rock the car. I get scared. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I also hate when they decide to stop the ride for some reason. The older I get the more my fear of heights grows. Enjoy the ride when you get the opportunity. From now on I prefer to keep my feet on the ground! I do enjoy looking at (and taking photos of) the beautiful ride when I go to Coney Island.

Yelp
$10 per ride. Is it worth it? Depends who you're with. My son loves it every time we come to Coney Island. He likes the carriage that rocks back and forth. The Ferris wheel makes about 3-4 rotations before they let you off. The view from the top is quite nice on a sunset. Even just looking at the ocean and Brooklyn, it's a nice Kodak moment. But for $10 and with a kid that wants to ride multiple times could be killer...

Yelp
Despite being a bit nervous about riding any Ferris wheel, I love to watch the Wonderwheel make its rotations. It's like a puzzle game with moving pieces, cars sliding as it goes around. The park itself offers quite a bit for all ages to do. I like to see all the little people screeching in having fun on the smallest rise as the adults in teens hoop and holler on the thrill rides. With all the games rides and little stands with confections, it has all the makings of its own tiny carnival or state fair in its fenced in area. On my last visit I noticed they were painting new artwork on the gates outside of the fence in sprucing it up a bit before the arrival of its newest rollercoaster. I know I will definitely check that out. Glad to see Deno's is back for their big 101 year celebration.

Yelp
I absolutely love the Wonder Wheel. Since I was very young I always enjoyed the thrill of actually riding the cars as they glide along the track and swing about, leaving you in suspension of disbelief. The Wonder Wheel is not your typical Ferris wheel in that it just spins you around. It is known as an Eccentric Wheel, which as mentioned, adds a more thrilling element to the ride as a result of the swinging car along the track. Yes, they also have stationary cars, but the swinging cars bring in much more memories. I remember riding this Ferris wheel with my grandparents and how scared I was when the cars moved like that. At the time it was the only Ferris wheel in the world that did that. Soon others popped up, but none can ever duplicate it. Especially when the ride is running at night. Last bit of trivia. When the city had it's power outage in the 1970's, the Wonder Wheel was operated hand-crank style to get riders off rather than having them be stuck for hours. Yeah, you could say I have a crush on this ride.

Yelp
A very quick walk through here. Luckily, they were checking temperatures, but you didn't have to purchase tickets/wristbands to enter, like Luna Park. And they still allow pay-per-ride. Ended up riding both of their small family coasters to show some support for the park, and to check out the progress of the new Phoenix coaster, coming later this year. Staff was friendly and quick, and wiped down seats and lap bars between riders.

Yelp
One of the best parts of Coney Island is going on the Wonder Wheel! The way the park works is that each ride is worth points ranging from 10-5. Each point is approximately one dollar, but they have some specials. We purchased a 50 pointS for $40. You have to go to the ticket booth, get a pro loaded card, then they scan it at the rides Is $10 expensive for a Ferris wheel ride, yes it is. But I t's worth going on the ride for sure. It has a really pretty view from the top. The stationary cars are nice for catching the views, and the moving cars and fun and a lot more exciting. This park is kind of a new frills experience, but if you go in with the expectation that it's just an average carnival you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I came here with Deno reservations, only to find that it's actually just a ferris wheel. The Wonder Wheel is one of the iconic images of NYC. It's not in the heart of Brooklyn by any means, in fact a far-flung corner of Brooklyn that most people never visit these days, opting instead to dine with the hipsters in Williamsburg. But you're missing out. The boardwalk and the fresh air and feel of Coney Island are incomparable. It's a lovely place, with so many ghosts of the past and memories. The Wonder Wheel has been immortalized on so many films. To ride it is actually relaxing and quaint and fun, but it is so much more than the sum of its ferris wheel parts. I only hope that it will stand forever.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
Deno's is one of the best known Ferris wheels around. It has a long and rich history so there's a nostalgia factor. The actual experience is pretty good for a Ferris wheel. It's not actually part of the park. That means you won't have to pay admission, which is astronomical, so be thankful for that. Along with the Cyclone, it's one of the iconic images of Coney Island. It may be located around Luna Park, but it's not part of it. This means you won't have to pay the $69 admission, which doesn't even include actually riding any rides. It has stationary and swinging carts. The stationary carts give you the better view. If you're a Ferris wheel fan this is on your must do list. It's all right for a ride, even though it's kind of expensive for it. The best part is just being able to say you were on this.
google avatar

Julie Ying X.

Yelp
I've never ridden the Wonder Wheel or any of the rides here even though I've lived in Brooklyn for a long time. I admit I'm not really an amusement park type person. However, I'm a huge fan of Stranger Things so I was excited that there was a Stranger Things Season 3 takeover during July 4th weekend. There was a Stranger Things photobooth, giveaways, and signs. I got the 50 credits for $40 for rides. The Wonder Wheel was a bit expensive for $10 but it was pretty fun. The swinging car was more fun and gave it a more thrilling experience. There was a great view of Coney Island from the top. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would come back if I have out of town visitors.

Yelp
Looking for a fun-filled wholesome day? Coney Island is the place to go! And of course, while here, the second most important thing you have to do (besides eat a Nathan's dog of course) is ride the famous Ferris Wheel! The Ferris Wheel is a historical landmark, and has been operating smoothly for close to 100 years!! How impressive. The massive ride is more than just your basic ferris wheel - you have the option to ride in a "swinging" cart, or your standard ferris wheel cart. The swinging carts add an additional element of fun while they swing twice during the rotation of the wheel. It was a lot of fun riding around, seeing all of the boardwalk from above! There are many other rides in this park, as well as arcade-style games. My boyfriend has been trying to win me a stuffed animal at countless fair/arcade games over the past year, and this was his lucky day. The staff were so friendly and allowed him some extra shots on the slow day - and he finally won me the most adorable Husky, who we appropriately named Nathan! Great spot to visit - fun for all ages!

Yelp
I visited for the first time and only rode the Wonder Wheel on a March weekday. I was still queasy after riding The Cyclone so perhaps choosing a swinging car wasn't the best idea. I'm generally afraid of heights but I was calm during the rotations and occasionally rattled during the swinging. Gotta admit that I enjoyed the view.

Yelp
Of all the parks in the area Deno's has the worst attractions, the most worn down rides and above all, the most rude staff. When they got us off our ride right before it started because of rain, they refused to let us back on it when the rain stopped. "No refunds, no refunds" is all this rude kid kept yelling at us through the ticket window. I didn't want a refund, just our credits to get back on the ride. I'll never come back to this park and I'll make sure everyone I know doesn't either. There are plenty more parks around anyway. It's just a shame they had to ruin a classic place like this for us.

Yelp
3.5. (Yelp, please start to allow us to put half stars) it's summer time, so I usually venture out here, many times, during the summer. Usually to either, The boardwalk (Friday night fireworks) or Luna Park. However, i came with a few friends and our kids-- we came here to Deno's. I've never been here before but it was cool. We each purchased our cards for $40, which gives you an extra ten credits. Each ride I encountered was 5 credits or $5 dollars. (-1) because in Luna Park; they have various price ranges. Usually the rides for toddlers would be around 3 credits, but here, everything is 5 credits. My next issue was, the duration of time. Two or three of the rides were an absolute waste of time, they were about one minute. The kids had fun, and that's what matters; however, I started to notice how short the rides were and thought maybe going forward, I'd prefer to just stay in Luna Park.

Yelp
People like me ride the Wonder Wheel for nostalgia. (Good date destination, back in the day.) The ferris wheel is a Coney Island landmark, practically 100 years old. Is it the most thrilling ride in the park? Hardly. But you get a great view of the area. And if you choose one of the swinging cars there's a moment or so of anticipation before the initial swing. (It's neither scary nor gut wrenching.) $8 for two rotations. Four people to a car. Opt for the front seats.

Yelp
:: For the Wonder Wheel ride :: Holy crap is this really high! I can see my apartment from up here! It's been years since I have taken a ride on the Wonder Wheel and forgotten how big this ride really is. When you are up near the top the views are tremendous. It's really an engineering feat. As an iconic and historic Coney Island feature the monsterous ferris wheel is worth spending the $7 to do at least once. I also love that there are two choices for seating. Each one is basically a giant bird cage that can seat up four to six people. One is fixed and doesn't move much, and the other is a swinging and sliding terror chamber that you can really mess with your fellow riders on. Especially if they are scared of heights. I did this to my girl once. She was hating on me. I think I slept on the couch that night. Totally worth it! ;-)
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
*Spoiler Alert* If I died by the arms of a Cloverfield monster or if I were crushed by a helicopter, I would like my last memory to be of me and my luvah laughing on Deno's Wonder Wheel. On top of the world, or Brooklyn at least. The heat on our shoulders. Sugar highs. They sell cotton candy at Coney Island, right? Lock me up in one of those carriages and spin me around. I don't mind. I'll let the wind blow through my hair while I stare down at the beach and listen to the carnival tunes. Laughter. I hear laughter. And then I see you smile. And you hold my hand. One soft passionate slow kiss. The Wonder Wheel creates romantic moments. Cherish em because you never know when a big pissy Cloverfield monster is going to bash the living daylights out of you.

Yelp
Whenever I see THE WONDER WHEEL I think of The Warriors! Now the amusement ride is what Coney Island is all about. Basic rides for all to enjoy with your family and the boardwalk of Coney Island. It's awesome that the park is open and operating in 2014. WARRIORS COME OUT & PLAY!
google avatar

Yelp
Massive Wonder Wheel in the background; tickets separate from the little rides below. Most rides are $3.50 (one ticket). Nice and simple payment, credit cards accepted, and ticket booths all over. The equipment is showing its age, but it entertains the little ones. Multi-tickets if you stay are a must; keeps it simple when going back and forth. While I'm at Luna Park nearby more due to some of the newer rides, there is some simple entertainment for the little ones here and fewer lines to worry about.

Yelp
Deno's may not be as visible as it used to be with "Luna Park" dominating the Coney Island amusement scene nowadays, but it still has its big landmark: the Wonder Wheel itself. Originally the world's tallest Ferris Wheel when it opened in 1920, the Wonder Wheel remains an imposing sight in the area. There are both typical stationary cars as well as swinging cars which move towards the center of the ride when you're high enough. I prefer the stationary cars as they offer better views of the surrounding area and are just generally more peaceful. The swinging cars feel out of control and that's because they are; their move is simply based on gravity so expect to swing quite a bit! This ride isn't cheap at $8 but it's worth at least 1 ride if you're down here. As for the rest of the rides, unfortunately they aren't as noteworthy. The most interesting is Spook-A-Rama. This was once the longest haunted house ride in the world at over 10 minutes, but still lasts about a third of that time which is pretty good. It was renovated a few years ago so most of the original props are gone in lieu of more modern ones (spoiler: werewolves) but the jerking motion of the ride remains intact. It's still worth a ride if you're in the mood for this, although the $7 price tag isn't cheap. Do these if you'd like, but as much as I'd like to be loyal to Coney Island originals, I'd prefer to spend any non-Wonder Wheel money on the Cyclone or Thunderbolt personally.
google avatar

Tony T.

Yelp
Kiddie park is great for kids but isn't cheap. For the Kiddie park (I didn't go onto the Wonder wheel), you can either line up outside to buy tickets or find a booth inside (which has a much shorter line). You can buy 1 ticket for $3.50, 10 for $30, or 20 for $45. If an adult rides with a child, it is 2 tickets. There are 16 rides and it is nice for small children.
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
Ok rides but please watch out for the scam artists manning the games area. Visited with family and got scammed out of $40. They come and offer you a throw which you assume to be free. Then they say $20 please and get their buddy to back you up. Same scam as the Elmos in Times Square.

Yelp
Review Milestone Alert: 700!!!! I've done my share of daring things in my time, some of them at Coney Island (see Review #600), some of them many of you would consider quite tame. For instance, I have never gone sky diving. Nor have I explored the Amazon solo (or with a tour, even). But I have ridden the Wonder Wheel. It helps to know this fun fact when you're staring dubiously up at its old structure, creaking along up to great heights, several of the cars maniacally swinging its passengers into screamsville: in the almost 100 years that it's been in operation there has not been one fatality! Oh and the only time it has ever stopped was during the blackout of 77. No worries, they hand-cranked it so everyone got down safely and could go merrily on their way home, or looting or whatever it is one did back during the blackout of 77 (I, myself, might have hit up Bloomingdales or Barney's...) Blackout looting fantasies aside... I've done many things in a Wonder Wheel car (except take a swinging car. OH HELLS NO). One of the most memorable would be the time I rode with friends after the Mermaid Parade. That day we had smuggled in bottles of Chianti in my bag (yes, every other normal person would have been drinking beer on this hot day, but we had a taste level to maintain). While on the WW, we polished off the rest of a bottle (check out my profile pix for proof). Next, one of us decided that he couldn't wait to get off the wheel before relieving himself so he made use of the empty bottle right there at the top. That this is incredibly gauche, especially considering my earlier mention of taste levels, is not lost on me. He did not, however, empty the bottle from the top of the WW. That would be unforgivably rude. It's the grande dame of Ferris Wheels, people. It will stop and afford you a choice of views: the shore and endless ocean or that of all of Coney Island, South Brooklyn and beyond, if it's a clear day or night. Or you may just be able to watch helplessly as someone breaks into your vehicle parked on Surf Avenue...

I always liked the Wonder Wheel because I always liked to watch the dogs ride it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYEDnG6Om1g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gojqWslnkXY&feature=related http://gothamist.com/2009/07/21/wonder_wheel_dog_gets_close-up_as_c.php There have been many dogs over the years. http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/01/nyregion/this-dog-gets-around-and-around.html There is a pet costume contest on the board walk that you can see from the Wonder Wheel. http://www.coneyislandfunguide.com/Events/Pet-Day-at-Denos-Wonder-Wheel-Park_6_11_2011-2850.htm Coney Island is not as clean or wholesome or safe as the Jersey shore or as fun but the dogs on the Wonder Wheel always makes me smile! 4 stars for the dog rides making people smile! (and Coney island smells like pee) But the Wonder Wheel and dogs on the Wonder Wheel is the reason to go and have fun!

Yelp
The Wonder Wheel was probably the best 6ish bucks I spent all summer. No. Joke. I've been a passenger on both the swinging cars (blue and red) and the stationary cars (white). If you enjoy feeling as if you're going to fly off the ferris wheel and die, chose the swinging cars. If you'd rather pass on that feeling, the stationary cars are your BFF. This logic is faulty if you're on a date. Do yourself a favor and chose the stationary car, regardless of your near-death-experience tendencies. Sometimes it's worth it in the long run to sacrifice a little adventure for a lot of romance. You'll thank me later. Awesome views of Coney Island, the faint vision of the Manhattan skyline in the distance, AND wind in the face? Yes please!

Yelp
$10 per person, about a 10 minute ride. The cart swings back and forth at some sports which is unique.

Yelp
It was finally the day to go on the Wonder Wheel after seeing it my whole life. It did not disappoint. After being at Six Flags the day before and just getting off the Cyclone, I was not up for the swinging cars and took the white stationary one. The view was great and the experience wonderful. My only wish was for a little longer, more fluid, ride. it is not often you get to ride on a 91 year old icon. Looking to get back, and maybe get on the swinging cars next time.

Yelp
If you seen the movie "The Warriors"? This is their Turf! I came here for the Wonder Wheel. The whole amusement park closed due to snow, but hey this Wonder Wheel is a historical landmark in Coney Island and I was destined to come here no matter what. I would like to say for Cali folks this is like the famed Santa Monica Pier, with the boardwalk and beaches. But on this part of the east coast, this amusement park is in a grander scale! More rides, Creepy looking big rides, and it has the famous original Nathan's Hot Dogs nearby. This is probably the oldest theme park in this country and it gives me the creeps, even in snowy conditions when everything in here closes, it's like a white ghost town well, except Nathan's and a candy shop they stayed open. I'd be overwhelmed seeing this Wonder Wheel at night, this thing is huge! and I get those flashbacks from the Warriors opening movie scene with the N train nearing its destination. FYI: be careful walking on patches of snow plenty of dog shit around.

Yelp
My 500th review goes to the wonder wheel. A landmark for sure. If you come to Coney Island you must ride the Wonder Wheel - and not one of the sissy, old fart fixed cars that don't go around the inside of the wheel - the relaxing/scary cars that do roll around. This is the only Ferris Wheel that I know of that does such a thing (and may be the only one in existence - perhaps I should do some research). Proud to hand #500 to you Deno and your wonderful Wonder Wheel. Not only are you a backdrop for photos every time I visit Coney, you're always a thrill.

Yelp
The Wonder Wheel is the real reason to visit Deno's. Yeah, rag on me all you want but I actually enjoy the relaxing views that can only be enjoyed in the stationary white carraiges. The only thing I enjoy about the swinging carraiges is watching the horrified riders swing dangerously close to our cart before being pulled away by physics. Their expressions are priceless. At $6 a pop Wonder Wheel is worth your 10 minutes in the air. I wish they let you ride for longer though...

Yelp
Was in Coney on the evening of the Mermaid Parade and the place was still crowded and really alive. Good vibes and loads of scantilly clad young ladies made for a great time. I have to admit Im not a huge lover of rides but I was with my two besties and none of us had ever rode the Wonderwheel so what the hell we forked up the 7 bucks and got on. Chose the stationary car because were all chickens. It was at sunset and the views were just spectacular. Great time. Glad we did it.

Yelp
So this is the part of coney island that has the wonder wheel and the kiddie rides, kind of inside Lunar park. Iconic Deno's Wonder Wheel is nostalgically wonderful and is a landmark. Some of the carts swing as you go around and the rest are still. Your classic easy breezy ride into the sky. Great views of surrounding coney island, go on after dark if your being romantical. Den'os Wonder Wheel hosts an annual "pet day" where owners can ride the wonder wheel with there doggie babies, I couldn't go this year, but Gia and I are looking forward to it next year!! Kiddie rides are awsum! My nephew and his cousin had a ball on these rides. He's 1 and his cousin is 3 and I think the rides were pretty good for both ages. Not sure how much each individual ride is, but I do know that the coupon sites sometimes have deals on wrist bands for this place, which I think is a great idea! Surrounded by adult thrill rides, ya know the type that make you want to throw up....lol

Yelp
$8/person. 4 adults can fit in a cart. Sliding carts aren't so thrilling and the bars will impede your view. If you want a view, you should sit in the white stationary carts. 6 minutes total time. Going at night is super empty and windy (good if you like wind), but you can't see much distance at night. Go before sunset to see the 360 view.

Yelp
Very cute amusement park with a great staff. My young son fell there (his fault!) and they went above and beyond to take care of him - first aid attention, ice cream to take his mind off things, etc. They even came to check on us later. Thank you Deno's!

Yelp
Classic Coney Island ride that everyone will enjoy at least once in their life time. I have been on this ride many times since I am a Brooklyn native. Such a fun and enjoyable ride. You can choose to do the regular normal ride or the swinging ride. The swinging ride makes it a little more fun. Tickets are $7 per person. Something you have to ride when you come to Coney Island.

Yelp
There is never a time that I come here and memories of my childhood comes back. Makes me feel nostalgic, but not enough to make me sad. Just enough to make me enjoy everything all over again even though I'm older and fatter. Overall, it is always a fun experience whether your young or old or with a child there is always something for everyone to do.

Yelp
A nice relic from the past to give you great views of the water and the neighborhood. Always, always go for the moving cars, it's just more fun that way.

Yelp
While spending time at Coney Island we decided to ride the famous Wonder Wheel and after our experience we weren't dissapointed. The ride itself was incredible because it provided a great alternative to the average ferris wheel. My family and I loved sharing a cart and a few different times their screams made me laugh hysterically. In the end, this ride was a blast and a must ride while at Coney Island.

Yelp
Beware the games. My wife, eleven-month-old daughter, and I were passing through the area to get to the train station when my daughter had a diaper explosion. There was no bathroom close by, so I walked a bit passed the bumper cars and found this area that felt secluded enough to change her diaper. Out of nowhere, this man approaches me and puts something in my hand. It's a dart. He wants me to play. I tell him I can't, I have to take care of my daughter. I proceed to change my daughter, the guy sticks around and starts small talk with my wife. Once I finish changing the diaper, he continues to try and lure me to play the game. I ask him how much. He says $5 for three shots. He assures me, win or lose, I will walk away with a prize for my daughter. I figure, there's no harm in playing a quick round. I play and get my prize (a small fish). I pay the man $5, but he doesn't let me leave. He demands I keep going. I do. I take a total of 6 shots, so therefore, an additional $10. I inadvertently opened my wallet in front of him, and he spots a couple of bills. I hand him a $20 expecting $10 dollars back, but he says keep going, giving me this ominous look. His dart booth is not in direct pathway that visitors take, but rather off to the side. Secluded. By this point, I notice a couple of his goons watching me closely, and I realized that I fallen into a trap. Fearing for the safety of my pregnant wife, and my child, I hand over my money to the scam artist. He takes $75 (he took four $20's, and returned my $5). He then gave me a dirty stuffed toy, and we left as fast possible. PLEASE, PLEASE, beware the games. Do not let your kids fall victim to this. If this happened to me, it must happen everyday to unsuspecting victims. I have never been so scared in my life. These crooks should be arrested for using one's family to score a couple of bucks. I will definitely be proceeding with criminal charges.

Yelp
I have sky-dived without a whimper. I have eaten scorpions and laughed. I have scuba'd in barracuda infested waters without a care. I have driven through Compton in the middle of the night, in a brand new convertable and asked the nice gentleman with the super adorable coordinating headbands how to get back on the freeway...and even offered one of them a lift if they were going in my direction. I have even faced down my mother on occasion without passing out in fear. But Ferris Wheels? Yeah, they terrify the BEEJEESUS out of me. The first time I went on the Wonder Wheel it was with my BFF (and fellow wimp) and my husband. The two of us whined so much, that he caved and we all went on the stationary car - which had us squealing in fear as it is. This time, it was just my husband and I, and he somehow convinced me that the swinging car "wouldn't be that bad". I proceeded to scream so loudly through our ride that after we got off, everyone asked if I was OK. Yes, I'm a little loud...but that swinging car is TERRIFYING!!! Clearly, I'm super proud to have survived the WONDER WHEEL OF DOOOOOOOOOM and lived to tell the tale.

Yelp
Deno's is the LAST remaining independently owned ride at what was once called Astroland (see my review for The Cyclone to understand fully...) - this incredible relic is one of my absolute favorite places in the world. Regardless of whether you get into the moving or stationary cars, you will experience an awesome Ferris Wheel ride with views to remember :) The stationary cars are kinda of romantic - I wont lie! The ride around is a few minutes and they let you go twice. If you have kids they will lose their minds! The moving cars -- OH BOY. Up until about 7 or 8 years ago they were being renovated and unavailable. One day, my BFF and I went for a ride and saw they were operational so we thought "why not we've never been let's do it". HOLY CRAP, the drops were so unexpected that we both held on for dear life.... and i'm a total dare-devil but man, there are no seat belts or anything on these babies and the drops are, well, kinda steep. But alas we had a great time on this little adventure of ours but these days i stick to the stationary cars. On a very personal note, several weeks ago (October, right before Sandy hit) my younger brother got married and the entire bridal party went to Coney to get pictures done. We all grew up here and this place is incredibly sentimental to us. The Deno's people let our entire party of 14 (plus 2 photographers) ride for free to take our pics which came out incredible. The hospitality of this family is beyond amazing and it was a day none of us will ever forget. If you have never been to Coney Island it is highly recommended by me and mine that you go the minute it opens next year.
