Where To Eat Outside In Jersey City & Hoboken

"Some places have put up string lights over their outdoor seating, and others have set up canopies to help with passing rain showers, but the award for unique outdoor space has to go to this Jersey City brewery. Not only have they turned their patio into a pirate ship, but they’ve also set up a few holes of mini-golf, which you can play while drinking their housemade beers." - hannah albertine, nikko duren, matt tervooren

Google
Popular brewery in NJ! They have really good IPA’s and this is coming from someone who usually doesn’t like IPA’s. There’s no food here but it is right next to a nice bakery with fantastic sandwiches. Seating is limited but I usually have no trouble finding a spot. It is dog friendly! Give it a try. You’ll know why it’s a local favorite.

Google
Fun little brewery. Lots of funky decor. They have a good variety of beers— IPAs, stouts, lagers, belgians, etc. They also have a wide variety of gluten-free beers which is cool! They are dog-friendly and they have plenty of board games if that’s your thing. No food, but there is a bakery right next door and some other restaurants nearby.

Google
Great place! Love their beers and the atmosphere. We went here for our friend’s birthday and she was able to secure karaoke from porcci nyc who we used from our wedding as well. We basically made it an emo night.

Love this brewery ! The beers are served extra cold and there are definitely some good varieties. The space itself is funky and great for private events. Def recommended! Cheers 🍻.

Google
My wife surprised me with a trip to Departed Soles on our wedding anniversary. The place is awesome! Grab a seat at one of their high tops, or some really cool custom made furniture. Tons to look at, great music playing and cards and board games if you and you friends are hanging around for a few. Staff were on point, all were very nice and professional. We had some beer… I mean, we had to try all the gluten free beers which are by far the best gluten free brews around. Had a couple flights, which come in mini skateboards and my wife tried a few of their non-gluten free beers, all were excellent. Had to buy one of their awesome shirts and a couple growlers on the way out, can wait to crack them open. Great job Departed soles. Lastly, ample parking in the parking garage across the street.

Google
My experience here is always positive. The bears are great and they rotate some taps so it keeps things interesting. Service is authentic and they take care of people who don't know what they want. It's such a good experience every time.

UPDATE: Visited and the beer is amazing, got really tempted and tried some beers with gluten too. Amazing service. Wish they had more snacks 😭 I haven't been here yet, but I just bought some cans from this brewery and I'm so ready to go for some gluten free beer. I've been taking a very long break away from my love for craft beer due to a recent diagnosis of celiac disease. Thank you so much for accommodating!!!

Google
Super nice place! Great beers. I prefer Belgium ales. No food. But you can bring your own.

Yelp
Cool brewery and taproom adjoined to Prato on its left. It's fairly nondescript and no frills (bring your own food, pets, etc.), but the vibe is cool, the beers are pretty dope, and the merch is pretty cool. Great place to either enjoy a quick drink or flights with a few friends. It's pretty small inside, but I figure there may be some more spacing elsewhere that I don't know of. There's also a bunch of events that are held here, from yoga to drawing classes.... so I'm sure the people of JC can certainly enjoy coming here for whatsoever reason.

Yelp
Great little brewery in Jersey City! They have a large beer list including a lot of gluten free options. They have beertender was super friendly and the flight is a great option to try different stuff. They have all sorts of events here as well. Will definitely come back.

Yelp
Friday night drop in for a few drinks before dinner and very happy we stopped in. They have a singer with a guitar and a fun selection of drinks. I'd be back to hang out again before going to get dinner. Everything in this area is walking distance. Shout out to the manager for stopping by our table to introduce himself and meet us!

Yelp
JERSEY CITY: we are saying this in the best, most amazing way possible, Departed Soles is a brewery and tap room that feels like you're in the middle of a video game or cartoon that takes place in a subway. It's a place you have to visit to understand and we are so happy we did to experience the uniqueness. The tasting room is comfortably cozy and leashed and friendly dogs are allowed inside! There is also an outdoor space. There are 14 beers are tap, a few more in cans, gluten free options, and those that contain lactose are clearly labeled. We love the name and the flavor of the "This meeting shoulda been an email" wheat beer. You can take cans to-go and fill up a growler. Sit at the bar or a table and watch the game on their TVs, you can bring your own food, and they validate parking for the LAZ lot on First Street. They have great merchandise and we scored a t-shirt that says Can I Pet Your Dog?

Yelp
Fantastic brewery, staff, and vibes. If you get a flight, it comes on a mini skateboard. I sincerely enjoyed my time there and I appreciate the wonderful company! I bought tons of swag, including some incredibly soft T-shirts. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Excellent staff. Ok beer. Nothing really stood out from our flights - we had 8 different choices between us. Nothing was bad, but nothing was unique. Since we like trying beer when we travel it was a bit of a let down to not find anything memorable. The staff were awesome though and we had a great time chatting with everyone. It made the vibe of the place very nice.

Yelp
Awesome brewery! Love the fun vibes to nostalgic pop culture touch tones of a few decades ago, especially Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles references on merchandise. Their new long bar counter added last summer is a nice touch, and I hope they continue expanding on over the years.

Yelp
Great selection of beers, fun environment and good service. If in the area, it's worth a visit.

Yelp
Great first visit to Departed Soles! We've purchased 4packs from local 6pack shops and were excited to visit the actual brewery. The main reason is the quality gluten free beer they are producing. Our son is GF and the Departed Soles beer is some of the best tasting GF beer around! The vibe of the brewery is relaxed and welcoming. The staff was great-friendly and helpful. One of the owners/brewers was seated at a table near us and we enjoyed chatting with him for a while about the brewery and craft beer in general. Even though it was our first visit, we were welcomed like regulars. In addition to the tasty GF beer, the non-gf selections are all solid! We both left with 4 packs and growlers! Definitely worth the hour+ trip!

Yelp
Came here with my boyfriend Saturday for the flight of beers and I had a glass of the Spongehop Sourpants lmaooo. LOVE the name and it tasted so good!! The prices are on point!! You can see where they make the beer. The owners partner in business spoke with us and he was very nice. He explained their process and how it's all done. They've been there for 7 years! They serve the flight of beers on a skateboard. So fun! My boyfriend likes IPA's and he tried 4 theirs. Keep in mind they are a microbrew, which is so cool. He likes the trash one haha. I thought they were all delicious! The fruity one was my favorite, it's called good drift. Please come support this small business!!! They're worth it and I want them to stay. :) They also have amazing prices!!!

Yelp
Departed Soles Brewing is a gluten free brewery which I personally enjoy these kind of breweries because they don't have the bloat factor like most breweries have with their beers. I also have mentioned before that breweries without gluten have gotten it down pat pretty well on making enjoyable and appealing beers without gluten. I can't say that's the case with breweries that make only non-alcoholic beer but maybe as time goes on something good might come along. For the beer I tried from Depared Soles Steve and I shared the Go Big or Go Home beer. This is a Belgian style beer which we liked and it indeed had banana and clove. Now sometimes those two things can be overkill with their flavoring in a beer but it does make a difference as to who makes it. In this case it was very well balanced those two flavors and were an asset to the beer rather than flavors dominating all others within the beer.

Yelp
Cool little brewery, minimal snacks, but you can get samples in a skateboard. Mellow, dog friendly.

Yelp
Another awesome find this year with Departed Soles Brewing Company! Located in JC and within walking distance of several food spots, the brewery is away from the crowd. On a Friday evening, my group was able to get a table quickly and place our orders with the staff. There's a great selection of gluten-free and non-gf beer to choose from. The staff were awesome and helpful with us making selections, especially since I opted for a skateboard flight. The music and vibe of the place is beyond chill, it's a great spot to hang out with friends or have a date. There's only a small selection of snacks available, so it's a good idea to eat before arriving or plan to after somewhere else.

Yelp
This place was sooo cool! A great theme and vibe. The guy working inside was so helpful too. And they have a great beer selection

Yelp
I am not a beer drinker 90% of the time, but I LOVE this place. The flights are server on a miniature skateboard (penny board?) and make for a cool photo. My flight included the April Oat'Neill (an oatmeal stout), Ego is not your Amigo, and Jersey Juice I believe? One was orange flavored and very easy to drink. They have some snacks available like fruit snacks and chex mix, but if you do get hungry, there is an Italian bakery adjacent to them. Take advantage of the board game section! Such a fun place to visit on the weekend with friends.

Yelp
(Drank 12/31/21 FR @ 2:00pm): My soul didn't want to depart from this place! On Day 12 of my vacation as I visited a very dear friend for the Christmas and New Year holidays, I was determined to visit a brewery and Departed Soles Brewing Co. was the lone lucky one and the closest option. How did this east coast brewery compare to all the ones I've enjoyed on the west coast!? We easily closed out our tab, exchanged "Happy New Years', and off we went happy as could be - thank you! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) We took the light rail to the Harsimus Cove stop and walked about 10 minutes to the burgeoning arts district. They didn't have an onsite lot. Otherwise, this place was totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Departed Soles Brewing Co. simply made me giddy. The beers were generally tasty, a limited selection, comparable prices, and adequate service. No onsite food or trucks, it was a BYO style. I found total value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $62.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Yelp
No better place to have fresh beers in the area. Menu change frequently enough for you to try different beers but still have your favorite. It's kid & pet friendly. Also you can order food in. The service is just excellent. They have many events in for you to check and follow their page.

Yelp
What a great spot. With plenty of choices and all the beers are delicious. They also have merchandise for sale. And they are dog friendly if your dog is friendly. I've been here two times already plan on many more. They have multiple nights with different things going on call ahead and see what's going on

Yelp
My friend had her husband's birthday party here. We had a great casual space in the back to gather and birthday hug. Pizza and burgers were brought in by us with no problem. Staff was awesome and friendly. We had drink tickets which helped everything run smooth and samples of what was on tap helped us drink the choices we loved. Great neighborhood vibe there in an area which is trying hard to transform to be upscale and luxury. They are quirky & artsy & real, and I'd definitely go back with friends or a date.

Yelp
As one of the few breweries located in Jersey City, Departed Soles is one of my favorite local gems. I'm always excited about their selection here - every time I visit, there's different and unique beers on draft (even if it's only 1-2 weeks since my last visit), and I love coming to try something new! Nothing has ever disappointed; I've also seen test batches on the menu, which is always cool to check out. Currently they're serving drafts for consumption in their outdoor tables and cans to grab-and-go. Great spot to grab a beer while the weather is warm!

Yelp
Loved the beer, the vibe and the friendly service. We will devin return next time we're in Jersey City

Yelp
Great micro brewer in downtown Jersey City. Located behind a coffee shop. Great way to spend a afternoon trying a flight of beers!

Yelp
If you love a hipster vibe with a doggo friendly atmosphere and really delicious beer...this is your place. Came here with a friend and thought this would be something completely different. I thought departed SOUL not SOLE. Rather than paranormal, other worldly....the decor is skater chic. Very cool & unexpected. We came here on a Thursday night little did we know there was trivia at 6pm. The tables were reserved for what I would imagine is a ROCKIN' time. Every table, chair, bench was taken. Next time we will call ahead and get in on the action. Love the beer, love the vibe. Cheers.

Yelp
I've been to this place a few times and the beers were good. Our last visit, the beers just missed the mark. We were surprised how empty it was, but decided to give 2 beers a try. Considering how many breweries there are, I expected Departed Soles to be on par. Both beers were totally flavorless and difficult to ingest. I could not taste any flavor notes nor could my partner. The bathrooms were the worst part here. The women's room was trashed with urine, dirty diapers on the floor, paper towels all over the place, a garbage of dirty diapers and paper towels to the ceiling if you must.... We used to love coming here to hang out and sample the beers. The place itself has potential, but there is very little to no experience to be had here. I used to love this place and the beers they offered, well after supporting local and buying a 4-pack and then showing some support, the love felt quite EH here. However, a couple walked in and ordered a few samplers and CRINGED, one person passed the beer to another friend which that friend cringed too. As we walked out, we said to ourselves how disappointing! I've never really had a bad IPA anywhere, but either their brew recipes have changed or the stuff on tap currently is just lacking flavor.
google avatar

Tyler R.

Yelp
I can't ever get enough IPAs, and Departed Soles has a solid rotation of that delicious unfiltered yellow gold. I am generally always able to fill my tasting skateboard (yes, skateboard) up with four similarly-colored glasses of delicious, ripe for tasting and comparing. After 7 minutes of tasting, thinking, tasting more, talking, and downing the final sips, I make my pint selection (flight & a pint, as others have mentioned, is a great option) and either stay indoors...or if the weather is nice, transfer to plastic and head outside for warm breeze, corn hole, and people watching on the narrow but definitely manageable patio area. But if you do want to stay in, there's a good amount of seating and plenty of games to keep you busy. The beers themselves are delicious; i've even strayed beyond the IPA to try some ales and one or two of their GF beers. All excellent, just depends on your individual taste. Get there just at 5pm on a weekday (it's like happy hour, only full price and way better) and be first in line to IPA the day away.

Yelp
Stopped by to try some newly released sours while enjoying this amazing weather! My boyfriend and I both ordered flights to try 4 different beers. The sizes of the flights were sufficient to be able to form an option of each brew. We took advantage of the outdoor seating but there were plenty of available seats and games inside as well. The sours we tried were the secret of the brews (a blue raspberry sour) and the funk rock princess (a dragonfruit Berliner Weiss) I loved the bright pink and green colors of these beers and both were delicious. The funk rock princess was crisp and refreshing and the secret of the brews was more fruit forward. Ended up purchasing both of these cans to go. The other two beers (birdie and a gingerbread ale) I was less fond of. The birdie was too bitter and I could not drink it. And the gingerbread, which tasted good, was very reminiscent of the fall and cold weather and was sort of strange to drink in the hot sun... But maybe this is just me! A big downside of this brewery is the uncleanly bathrooms... I immediately turned around. Reading other reviews I see that this is not a new problem! Overall, this place has great sours and a cool laid back vibe. I will definitely stop by the next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
A great brewery in the heart of downtown Jersey city. They offer Indoor and outdoor seating. Like most breweries you can bring your own food. Overall it's a great place to hang out but the best part is that they offer GLUTEN FREE beers. This makes me and my tummy so happy.

Yelp
Jersey City's Go-To Brewery! In the art district, you'll find a brewery with an expansive tap list (everything from IPAs to lagers and even (one or two) sours) with a unique and chill place to hang out in. Beers - 4/5 - They brew and carry an extensive list of beers with different styles and ingredients. You'll find a couple of unique IPAs here, but surprisingly they brew a couple of experimental beers (such as a Honey Blonde Ale). With some beers, it can be a bit off or not as flavorful as their mainstays, so when ordering, I would say give a taster of the new beers to check if it fits your taste buds. Hopefully, you'll find something on the tap list that you'll like, and they do occasionally rotate a couple of new beers. Service - 4/5 - The staff is always friendly and approachable. They are quick to help answer any questions and provide suggestions based on your preferences or taste. They are also dog-friendly and even allow people to bring in scooters (if there's space). I would say that sometimes the service can be off or a bit off-putting when certain topics are brought up or maybe it's an off day (usually a busy night - service is great). Venue - 4/5 - Nice indoor space with some interesting decor, like a bench made out of skateboards (which is neat). You'll see art on the walls, and (what I consider my favorite) fermentors and equipment in the back of the space. The venue also includes an outdoor space, so you can chill around barrels. The bathrooms are alright for a bar standard, depending on the night and how busy it is, though I would say it could help to be cleaner.

Yelp
What a cool spot, I'm not a big beer drinker but made my way over here. They have an arcade machine and the overall vibe is cool and 80's like. They're super friendly here and they will make sure you get something you like. The girl ended up recommending a sour, sayonara sucka (fruited sour with raspberry and lime). It was light and easy to drink!

Yelp
Enjoyed beers at Departed Soles Brewing on Friday evening. Delicious and creative beers, a laid-back style, and a large and chill space to enjoy a drink with friends, Departed Soles Brewing is doing things right. Quality: As soon as I saw pictures of the Red Bandana Pilsner made in honor of Welles Crowther, I knew I needed to visit Departed Soles Brewing immediately. As a Boston College alumni myself, the story of the man in the red bandana is something close to my heart, and to see it honored in this way, and learning how much money it helped raise for 9/11 charities, it is simply amazing. And the beer is delicious as well, same with the other beers I tried out. During my visit I went with Ghost Of Pumpkins Passed GF Pumpkin, Red Bandana Pilsner, Casey Cones Strawberry Milkshake IPA, Trini Saison With Basil/Coriander, SpongeHop SourPants Pineapple Sour, and Heyyy Youuu Ryyyes PB&J Rye Pale Ale. I think Case Cones was my favorite of the bunch, but each was high in quality and in creativity. Quantity: Standard size for Draft Beers, and the Beer Flights may be a little messy to open, but still provide a good sample of four selections. Value: $7 for a Draft Beer. $14 for Beer Flights. Ambiance: Departed Soles Brewing is located in Jersey City. A little removed from the action, it is located in an area currently dominated by construction. However, if you stroll down Bay Street, you will absolutely notice the large outdoor drinking area. With two layers, the first along the raised sidewalk with roof covering, and the second stretched into the street, there is plenty of room for guests to spread out and enjoy. They are also well prepared for a dip in the temperature with multiple heating lamps spread across the space. And while they haven't figured out a way to get the screens with sports outside yet, you can always peek inside to check on the score. Crowd: As soon as the clock turned five on Friday, the space began to fill up. With a good setup and tasty beer, it is definitely a popular after work and weekend spot. Service: Due to COVID they have guests order inside and bring beer to their seats outside. An easy and safe way to keep their employees from being unnecessarily exposed. I was actually most impressed with how they managed to still offer Flights with disposable materials. Parking: Even with construction in the area, still plenty of street spots.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to go in JC. it's super chill and unpretentious, it feels like you're hanging out in your millennial buddy's garage with an arcade drawer and skateboard chairs/flights. There's and outdoor area with barrels as tables which is perfect in a hot day. As a brewery they only serve pints and flights of beer, no seltzer, no wine, no hard alcohol. On the plus side, you can BYOF (bring your own food) and it's dog friendly as they don't serve food! They have Wi-Fi so you can come work in the afternoon to make those WFH afternoons more manageable and then invite a date over for a drink, all without leaving your seat. This can be a plus for some and minus for others but as a brewery they are constantly trying out different recipes so week to week you're unlikely to find the same beers.

Yelp
What a great place to hang out with friends while drinking delicious brews. I went for the first time this afternoon and truly enjoyed myself. The atmosphere is that of your typical brewery: beer and board games and a relaxing space. I did the flight & pint: for $15 you get a flight of 4 beers of your choosing and then a pint when you are done. I liked that you got to sample a few brews before choosing one for a pint. Very affordable. I can't wait to go back and try more of their beers.

Yelp
Love visiting local breweries and this one is located at a great spot in Jersey City! I was introduced by my friends who first recommended one of their popular drafts called SpongeHop SourPants. My first impression was - "What a fun name" but when I took a sip, "wow, this is really tasty!". It's a pineapple sour but it wasn't too sour which is nice for a change. This is a good starter if you want something fruity. I also tried the Maple Variant which is an imperial stout and it was really nice. The sweet maple pairs well with the dark beer. With Covid-19 in session, they set up a great, ample outdoor seating on the deck and at ground level with barrels and wooden tables. It's possible to enjoy their drinks with groups of 4-6 or you can buy their cans or growlers to take home.

Yelp
Checked out Departed Sole late on a Saturday afternoon with a friend for first time. Good location, close to Grove street scene. The place isn't very big but they have a good amount of seating. And you can bring dogs in! We each did a flight for $15 which includes 4 samples and a full beer. I really liked the Island Gurl ipa and their lager. Would come back again.

Yelp
A jewel in Newport (Jersey City) which is fast becoming a hipster neighborhood. The Departed Soles brewery serves beer flights on mini skateboards and welcomes dogs! For $15, you can get a flight of beers plus a pint of beer. Their selection of beers in incredible and gluten free options is a major plus. Simply ask for a tour and they will give you one for FREE and fill you on all the secrets to their awesome brews! The only downside that I can see of this place is that the seating is really quite limited, but that's in part due to the fact that it's a relatively small place. I also wish these guys were open more often but either way you should make it a point to check these guys out!

Yelp
I love this brewery! A real gem in jersey City with a great bf relaxed ambiance. There are plenty of food options nearby you can bring in or get delivered. The service is great as well and there are plenty of different types of beer to try!

Yelp
Interesting place that is all about beer. Lots to choose from. Dog and baseball friendly. Brew on site which I didn't expect. Free WiFi too! The before I die wall has 2 things so far - visit Departed and drink. Met both! I lucked out and Brant - super knowledgeable and genuinely cool dude - pointed me in the right direction. Duces - Trash Can - Highlands and Philosorapper All super well brewed and tasty. I really love their beers. Something for everybody.

Yelp
Fun place to hang out, place some games (they have Guess Who!!!!), and taste some beers. We did a beer flight, which is $15 for four 5-oz samples, and a full pour when you're with the flight. Plus, it comes served on this really cute skateboard. We did the NJ Ninja (only one I remember), and three other fruity ones. Nothing really stood out to me, but it seems a lot of their beers are seasonal. So if you don't like this season's, just come back in a few months. And I think that's just what I'll do!

Yelp
A hidden gem is jersey city. I am so thankful for this place because it brightened Jersey city where wind blows your mind and stops you from going anywhere. But this place is the motivation. They have new, seasonal flavor and their price is Legit. You can pay 10 dollars for a flight and basically I like their tastes I general. It also has some board games for you and your friends to hangout. Overall cheap and fun and delicious. Come

Yelp
Great themed brewery! Love the flights on skateboards! I ordered two flights to try all of the beers on tap. That were very good. One thing to note it is kind of small inside so if you go on a weekend definitely try and get there early it was hard to find seating for our flights with a group of 3.

Yelp
It feels so good to have options. First place in years I finally got a real flight of beer. For $15 you get a flight that consists of 4 different beers then a pint of your favorite. Since they have 3 types of gluten free beers, I got 2 of the same. Fun and casual environment and they are dog friendly!!! Bring your dog and maybe your friends too and enjoy.

Yelp
Love this brewery. The early novembeer is the best IPA I've ever had. Their merch is great too.

Yelp
In town, family and Yankees. Ending the days adventure at the Departed Sole. Its a JC neighborhood brewery in a gentrified warehouse area. Youve got to cut through a storefront to get into the brewery. Easy enough to do, no issue. The initial walk in gives a feel of cozy, some TVs, some games, tables and it was busy. A dog friendly joint. We were greeted as we bellied up to the bar. The quaff menu was prominent, nice array. I complimented the staff on a mostly non IPA menu. I challenge anyone to tell the difference in IPAs. Fighting words? Easy there. Lol. I did a flight. Mean muggin, a mild english ale was my favorite, nailed it. They covered a nice spectrum of styles. They also have new beers coming, they are working it. Good place. Stop in.

Yelp
I'm obsessed w/ this local gem. It's great for anyone who has gluten allergies as many of their beers are gluten-free & delicious. They always do interesting partnerships with local spots, like Razza. The people who work there are super informative & friendly. Get the flight, you'll thank me later.

Yelp
Six of us stopped in at Departed Soles Brewery on a Friday night. A few customers but not many when we arrived. Seemed to be a strady stream of folks stopping in for one beer and moving on or just stopping in for to-go package. First round, we all did the flights, which consisted of four 4oz beers for $14, if memory serves me correct. 2nd round, everyone picked their favorite from the flights and had a full-size order. They have a wide selection of beers on tap along with canned beers. The canning is done on premises They do have growlers for purchase if you want to take your favorite beer home with you. Decent place, would go back. Would have given 5 stars if we were offered a tour of the facility or any information at all about the brewing process.

Yelp
Departed Soles is one of my newest hangout places in Jersey City! After hearing about it for a while now, I finally visited with a friend visiting from out of state and we had such a great time. It is connected to Bucket & Bay Gelato so you get a nice, sweet aroma walking in to Departed Soles and then enter a really laid back, hipster vibe at the brewery. There's ninja mutant turtle decor, colorful furniture, oversized board games, a video game machine and more! The entire concept is very creative with the beer selections written on skateboards and a minimalist feel with kegs laying throughout the brewery. We got the Flight + Pint (Four 5 oz. Samples and One Full Pint) ($15). This was a great deal, we were essentially able to try five different beers and they were all delicious and didn't disappoint! The only one I might skip next time around would be the Liberty State Light Pilsner, as it was a bit too light for my taste but wasn't bad. The flights come atop cool mini skateboards, which is amazing! Then when you're done with the flight, you just trade it in for a full pint, well worth the price! Me and my friend ended up playing Jenga while catching up over good conversations and really enjoyed ourselves. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their beers. Can't wait to keep coming back to hang out at Departed Soles!

Yelp
I've started to notice some things about Jersey breweries in general. Some focus on all appearance, yet neglect the TLC that goes into great beer. Others are focused on the beer but are severely lacking when it comes to a welcoming brewery. Departed Soles has seemed to capture both elements. They make some solid beer and have a kick ass brewery. As the only brewery in Jersey City, DS has already made a name for themselves by winning an award for best Gluten Free beer courtesy of the World Beer Cup. I was also told by one of the staff that they entered a beer into the Great American Beer Fest, which is great for a brand new brewery. Regardless if you're a beer fanatic, you will find this brewery super chill and laid back. The theme here is the ninja turtles and skateboarding which can be seen on their shirts, skateboard flights (cool, right) and various memorabilia. On a recent visit, I tried their Modern Cup of Sole (coffee stout) and Ghosts of Pumpkins Passed (pumpkin beer). Both were very good and it was nice to see that they are collaborating with other Jersey City businesses (Mod Cup). In the past, I've tired their Four My Homie (GF IPA) and A Dark Night (GF black IPA). I've also tried samples of their rye saison, IIPA, and Belgian ale. Flights and pints are available with purchase along with growler fills and cans to go. They also do some cool events one of which included a beer that was brewed for the New York Red Bulls. Looking to exercise your brain? You can play Connect Four, Hungry Hippos, and a number of other great games from your childhood. Also be sure to write on their giant chalkboard: Before I Die, I Want to: ______. Me personally? High five Bruce Springsteen. I know I'm not the only one...

Yelp
I remember first trying Departed Soles at last year's Yelp does Newport event, they were great to talk to there and the beer was damn good. Finally made it over to the actual brewery. It's great that JC has this, it's much needed in Hudson County. After devouring some gelato at Bucket and Bay we headed in to grab some beers. It's a small space but cool, with a few communal tables, a chalk board to write your wishes on basically and a projector showing how they brew their beer. There's a small little bar, and you can get $5 pints or $15 flights that come with 4 samples and a pint of your favorite at the end. I tried their Pumpkin, Dark Night, Mod Cop and Philosopher I think it was called. I loved every one of them. I decided on the Dark Night for my pint. You won't go wrong with any of the beers here. I decided to take a risk and order just a pint of their golden ale and it was also delicious! You can keep a tab open, when you order your flight they put it on a skateboard, pretty cool. When you order a flight you need to hand over your ID, they give it back to you when you return the skateboard, which makes sense. They also have board games, the wife and I played Connect 4 for about an hour. Because the wife is preggers she didn't try anything obviously, so we didn't stay long. But I will definitely be back here!

Yelp
Nice spot in jersey city that has outdoor seating. I am a fan of sour beers and this spot had one called Spongebob Sourpants, a pineapple infused sour. I'd recommend it.
