"Kirkland may have a few more claims to fame than Costco, but none are more important to us than Deru Market. It’s a magical little cafe smack in the middle of a quiet neighborhood with delicious sandwiches, soups, pizzas, and a pepita- and roasted carrot-loaded entree salad that will inspire you to become a farmer. "Jenny and her partner just bought a new construction on the Eastside, and she wants you all to meet her on that side of the bridge for dinner. Luckily, Deru is well worth an evening schlep to Kirkland. It’s rather awkwardly wedged in the middle of a residential neighborhood, but the rustic barn ambience pairs well with excellent wood-fired pizzas, salads, risotto, herbal iced teas, and some wine. The Seattleites among you will find one more reason not to hate the Eastside, and Jenny can sleep easy knowing that her trip to Home Goods for meal prep containers wasn’t the most exciting thing she did this weekend. "Among all the pricey restaurants on the Eastside, there’s Deru to restore your faith in humanity. (Though, it’s still pretty pricey.) The market is in the middle of a Kirkland suburb, but it looks like it could be in LA, with marble galore, plants you don’t need to water, and a garage door that swings open for warm weather. Split wood-fired pizzas and rosemary fries, the market entree of the moment, and, of course, a big ol’ wedge of salted peanut butter dark chocolate layer cake. Or coconut cake. Or both.
