Literally, THE BEST pizza spot in Toronto! 🍕 Nestled halfway between The Beaches and the Distillery District, my friend and I tried a few pies: The “No Name”, the “Truff Guy”, and “Daddy’s Favourite”. Verdict: Every pie was outstanding and had something uniquely different to them. It was my first time trying Detroit style pizza and it surpassed all my expectations! The best way I could describe it was this pillowy dough in the center with a crunchy exterior, yet light and airy. My favourite ones were the “No Name” and “Truff Guy” pies. If you’ve never had Detroit style pizza, now’s your chance to bring a friend or two and enjoy a night out! Tip: I would definitely recommend ordering the smaller-sized pies (4 squares), so you can order a few different ones and happily sample them individually, instead of the larger 8-squared ones. My friend and I did this and it worked out perfectly. I’d also recommend ordering each pie one-by-one because the tables are quite small and won’t fit 3 different pizzas, our plates, and drinks in one go. Additionally, the service was amazing and the staff were so friendly! It felt like a homey, neighbourhood spot with great vibes! Would definitely come back and try a few more different pies! Thank you so much for the cool experience!🙏

Smashing IT! 😋🍕😋 I have found the best pizza in the City! Located along Queen Street East in trendy Leslieville you will find the most decadent and delicious pizza you can get your hands on! The crust is thick, chewy and caramelized at the edges. The sauce is sweet and tangy, the cheese is gooey, and the toppings are so creative that it's basically an explosion of flavors in your mouth. I ordered The No Name: This pizza had an array of ingredients that blended so well. It had the sweet, the hot, the herbs and the delicious crunch from the way they bake the pizza in the own. The No Name Pizza includes the following: Gooey delicious cheese, ezzo pepperoni, house made fennel sausage, dollops of ricotta, hot honey, fresh herbs, pecorino Romano, Calabrian chilis. It was absolutely remarkable. Words cannot describe how amazing this pizza is. So if you're looking for a different type of pizza that's Detroit style then you definitely have to take a trip down Queen Street East and treat yourself to Descendant Detroit Style Pizza! Your taste buds will thank you! The customer service as well is fantastic. An A++++. Forget turkey dinners for the holidays. Order a couple of Descendant Detroit Style Pizzas instead!

The dough was good texture but lacked flavor. The fennel sausage was nice. The sauce was also just okay. Ricotta is mild and slightly grainy but this was bland and just a blop. It looks 9/10 but taste wise its a 5/10. Need more mini Peppers to balance the honey and the 2 types of cheese. A little more meat would be great too because the small pizza is $28 & the dough is thickkkk. Honestly I'd add some salt and garlic oil to the dough, and definitely some lemon zest to the ricotta.

Google
This is the best Detroit style pizza in Toronto. It was incredible. Everything about it was perfect. I don't know if it could have been better. I would continue to go back here if I lived in the area. The ranch sauce that they put on this pizza was incredible and the right amount. The pizza sauce was exactly the way it should be. The mushrooms and pepperoni were on point and the cheese tasted grate 🤣 I can't imagine that there's better Pizza in the city. If there is, I'd love to try it.

Google
One of the best, if not the best, Detroit-style pizzas in Toronto! The cheese crust was fantastic, perfectly caramelized and packed with flavor. The sauce was rich and delicious, and the dough was soft and fluffy on the inside while staying crispy on the outside, exactly how Detroit-style pizza should be. Portions were generous, the toppings were well balanced, and every bite had that perfect mix of crunch, cheese, and sauce. Highly recommended. P.S. The picture is the small size portion.

One of my favourite pizza spots in Toronto. Definitely the most unique! Food: Electric Avenue - 4.5/5 - the pizza is full of flavour, and more filling than you’d think! All of the flavours with the chicken go so well together, it’s such a fun and tasty, thick crusted pizza. Definitely my favourite here! The hot sauce and basil dipping sauce are great touches as well! Service - 5/5 - Friendly, fast, and efficient! Especially given how busy it gets. Ambiance - 4/5 - Mostly a take out spot, but a few places to sit too!

Google
I had an exceptional experience at Descendant's Pizza, especially on a holiday (Canada Day) when most places were closed. The eating area was intimate, and the food was amazing full of flavour and served in generous portions. The small pizza comes with four slices, more than enough for one person. This place deserves a five-star rating; it's a cut above the rest.

Google
Is it really one of the top pizza spots in the GTA? Not really. The location feels a bit sketchy at night. They don’t serve Coke or Pepsi and instead push their own soda brand, which costs more but has just as much sugar. feels like a bit of a trap. The pizza edges were nicely crispy, but overall it didn’t stand out. Maybe Detroit-style just isn’t for me. A large pepperoni pizza, a soda, and a ranch dip came to about $50 after tax, which didn’t feel worth it. Large pizza was good for 2 people.

Yelp
I've heard raving reviews for the place from many people so we finally made it out to the east end to try. The space itself is fairly small with a few 2 seater tables, a large bench which is shared by several guest and a bar table space. The service was super friendly but it did take a bit of time for the food to come out. It is quite a popular place so you could see a lot of people were ordering take out. In terms of the pizza, the dough was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. We got the Electric Avenue and Truff Guy which were both tasty but to be honest, I wasn't blown away. Maybe my expectation was set a bit high from previous raving reviews. Toppings tasted good but nothing spectacular. It's also a bit on the pricier side considering the size of the pizza. I totally get why it's a Toronto favourite, but I can't say it's my favourite pizza place.

Yelp
When I found out I was taking a trip to Toronto last year, the first thing I did was check out the Yelp Toronto Instagram to see where I should eat. That's how I came across Descendant Detroit Style Pizza, and I'm so glad I did because this place absolutely lives up to the hype! I ordered the No Name Pizza, and it was incredible. The thick, crispy Detroit-style crust was perfection, and the toppings were so well-balanced. The Ezzo pepperoni and house-made fennel sausage added so much flavor, while the hot honey, ricotta dollops, Calabrian chilis, and pecorino romano took it to another level. Every bite had the perfect mix of heat, sweetness, and richness. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were great. I can confidently say this was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. If you're in Toronto, you need to make a stop here. You won't regret it!

Yelp
This place does some amazing Detroit style pizzas. I tried the mushroom one which was loaded with three kinds of cheese and also had a cheese pull when pulled apart. The taste was creamy and on point. They also hover some in house made fresh sauces with real Ingredients that paired well with my pizza. I also tried a peach ice tea here and again it was also a perfection. The service is great, it takes you 20 mins to get the food on table cuz it's freshly baked but worth the wait.

Yelp
Food 4.5 Service 4.5 -take-out I am not particularly a fan of deep dish pizza but I am making an exception! The dough on the No Name pizza was pillowy and airy. That was a surprise on the appearance of the thickish square pizza. The toppings generously covered the top. I had called ahead for a take-out and ordered the small 8x10 size pizza. They told us it would take 25 minutes. It was the perfect size for the 2 of us. No Name has a bit of a kick but it's not overpowering. I really like the ricotta, and I wish there was more of it on the top. I'd like to return and try the Truff-Ghe the next time I visit. The restaurant is on the north side of Queen St east with limited street parking outside.

Yelp
Descendant's Detroit Style Pizza is the place for unique pizza combinations and deep dish servings of pizza. The portions are good for how deep and topping filled the pizzas are made. They also sell dips that compliment the pizza flavors very well. The interior is pretty small for this type of restaurant, there is some bar seating and some tables, but it is probably a better idea to go takeout for large orders/gatherings. Service and staff was good, the food came out in decent time, remember, this is a sit down pizza place, not a fast delivery, it was pretty good at 20 ish minutes for the pizzas. We ordered two smalls sizes for two people to share (took home a few slices since it was quite filling): - Electric Avenue; was very tropical and fruity plus a bit of heat, it was well executed for a pineapple pizza, though we wanted more pineapple to really get that juicy hit at every bite - Truff-Guy; this is a great mushroom pizza plus that creamy dipping sauce was super satisfying - Garlic Parm Aioli dip Overall, it is one of the best pizzas in the city and the only one that does Detroit style justice, but it is pretty pricy... definitely worth it for special occasions and the flavor combinations are all hits.

Yelp
always hits the spot for my deep dish pizza cravings! staff are friendly and so polite, food is always made to order so its hot and fresh! descendant team, when are you expanding!? we need you all over the city!

Yelp
I'm not a huge pizza fan but this has been on my list to try. I ordered it from ubereats so I could only comment on the food. I'd say its a 3.5/5 - maybe because its not as fresh as it would have been if I got from the store but I was slightly underwhelmed it overall. Flavour is there, I just feel like something is missing. We got the No Name pizza and my favourite part of it was probably the dollop of ricotta. I think if there was a hint of sweetness, it would have been so much better. I also prefer thin sliced pizza better but this was good enough. Probably won't get it again but it was worth a try!
google avatar

Kandice W.

Yelp
We ordered our pizza ahead for pick-up and appreciated that it was being made fresh when we arrived, even if it meant waiting a few extra minutes. We tried the Electric Avenue pizza, which features jerk chicken, fresh pineapple, green onions, curried lime aioli, Mama Lil's peppers, and a side of hot sauce for dipping. None of the toppings really stood out, and the overall taste ended up feeling a bit flat as the flavours didn't come together as expected. It wasn't bad--just not as mind blowing as we had hoped.
google avatar

Yelp
We tried the truff-guy, gat daddy, and no name small size pizzas. The slices were unevenly cut which kind of annoyed me.... why is a whole pizza institution creating unevenly sliced pizzas!!?? Gat daddy and truffle-guy were 2.5 and 3 stars respectively, but the no name pizza is sooo good (4.5 stars). The star of the show was definitely the hot honey... Get that as a sauce if you're looking to get sauces on the side. Garlic parm aioli sauce is really good, we were told the smoked paprika aioli is the most popular so we got that too but it was bad LOL Interior is super whatever, come when it's nice out and just get some takeout to sit in a park somewhere. Verdict: only come here to get the no name pizza.
google avatar

Alyssa Z.

Yelp
3.5 stars Don't get me wrong, this pizza is delicious. Service was fantastic. Small restaurant front group seating when I can't get over is the price tag $25 for four slices we got two pizzas between the three of us as well as three of their loggers with tip or total came to $106 seems a little pricey for eight slices of pizza and beer. It being a bucket list item. It was great the first try. I don't know if I would come back per se as there could be other pizza at a more affordable price.
google avatar

Esmond L.

Yelp
The pizza was so good. Its thick but pillow. The cheese on the crust is crispy and delicious. Instantly became one of my favourite pizza spots. Staff are attentive and serious about keeping their products fresh. If delivery drivers are not bringing proper food storage bags, they're not handing it to them. It's a cozy spot on the east and definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Detroit style pizza? Delicious! It was my first time having this kind of pizza and it did not disappoint. Perfectly cheesy, not too saucy, and the right amount of crisp. The pepperoni was a bit too burnt, but I guess it had to be so that everything cooks well. I thought it was interesting that the sauce is a dollop onto the pie. Although I'm more of a crust person, the edges were crispy and tasted delicious. I got the garlic parmesan aioli and it was so good! The space is a little small inside but I think we got there at a good time as there was no other diners. There is free street parking in front. The waiters were very attentive and kind! I'll have to get it again if i'm in the area!

Yelp
While we were traveling to Canada we didn't have time to stop in Detroit for some Detroit style pizza, so while we were in Toronto we thought... this city is closer to Detroit than our home is! After reading good reviews about Descendant, we decided to give it a try. The service here was fast, friendly and enjoyable. The server had a smile on her face and lots of knowledge about the menu and she steered us towards ordering the Truff guy. I cross referenced that with seeing it was also one of their most popular and most reviewed pizzas and choose to order it. We ordered one side with their double smoked bacon how it normally comes and one side without since my fiancé doesn't usually like bacon. Funny thing is after eating the first slice and letting him try a taste of mine he soon wanted to have more of the original recipe with the bacon haha. It was doughy, cheesy, had a crispy outer edge, and we dipped it in some of their sauces which were good. I felt like it was a close re creation of good Detroit style pizza, we were happy with our decision to come here.

Daisy W.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Descendant Pizza. We ordered a small truffle pizza online for pick up. It may look petite, but it's perfect to share between 2. The pizza is thicker than how I usually like it, but surprisingly very delicious. I also like how they have bacon on it which really enhances the overall flavour of the pizza.

Yelp
I discovered Descendant Detroit Style Pizza early this year. I have had pizza from this establishment a couple of times. The first time, I got the Truff-guy. I loved it so much that I got it again recently. When I love a menu item, I tend to get it on repeat to the point where I neglect the other items. It's the case when I'm at Gushi. It's now the case here. I dig Detroit-style pizza. The cheese layer is at the bottom of the pizza and the sauce is on top. It's different. Perhaps it's peculiar to folks who are used to the reverse. Live a little. It's yummy. This eatery is in Leslieville. I dropped by in the evening both times. All Green P parking spots on both sides of Queen Street East were packed. Instead, I drove up Jones Avenue a bit and had better luck. I now parallel park on this street and don't even bother trying on Queen Street East. Parking is free along Jones Avenue. Technically, you do need a parking permit if you are parking overnight. However, if you're there for an hour or two, you're fine parking in the evening. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. The first time, I walked in and placed my order for the Truff-guy, which has everything that I love: - Cheese blend - Caramelized onions - Truffle aioli - Roasted garlic cremini mushrooms - Grana padano cheese - Double-smoked bacon - Lemon zest - Fresh thyme I learned my first time that it would take thirty minutes to bake my small pizza. You can't rush perfection. I decided to roam around the neighbourhood to kill some time. It was wonderful getting acquainted with the neighbourhood. On my most recent visit, I called ahead and placed my order. By the time I had arrived, my pizza was ready. If you want to avoid waiting, this option is for you. I paid with a debit card and tipped both times. The transactions were seamless and a breeze. There are seats on the main floor, but they do fill up fast. Both times, I ended up eating in my car. The original thought was to drive home and eat. However, my car smelled so good that I could resist but to devour everything immediately. The Truff-guy pizza is my jam. If you are a huge mushroom fan, you must try it. I love mushrooms and the roasted garlic creminis were so good. There was enough garlic that you tasted it and it mildly lingered after I had eaten my pizza. You definitely get a cheese pull when you grab your first piece of pizza. It was cool. Because you don't see the cheese on top of the pizza, it was a nice surprise seeing cheese strings coming from the middle of the slice. The double-smoked bacon was enough to know that you had a meat protein, but you knew that the mushrooms were the stars of this pizza. Delicious! The pizza was bright with the lemon zest and thyme. You do need to pay attention to the caramelized onions. They don't hit you at full force. Rather, they are subtle. The truffle aioli was fantastic. I could put it on anything that I eat and be the happiest person ever. You do need a drink to wash everything down. I had a bottle of lemon iced tea the first time and a cold can of Diet Coke the second. Both work well and pair nicely with this pizza. This pizza is filling. I first thought that I was full after my second slice. However, the first slice was so good that I polished off the remaining slices. The crust had a good crunch while still being chewy. It was perfectly balanced. It also didn't feel carb-heavy. I never felt sluggish driving home with pizza stuffed in me both times. It you want to save some money staying in Toronto for Detroit-style pizza instead of crossing the border to search for an authentic version, come here. You and your appetite will be fully satisfied. Yelp
Quick update: 7 years later, still slaying. Amazing pizza. Cool staff. They've changed the seating so there's a long communal table in the centre.

Yelp
LOVED descendant and can't wait to be back! We got a small truff guy - Cheese Blend, Caramelized Onions, Truffle Aioli, Roasted Garlic Cremini Mushrooms, Grana Padano Cheese, Double Smoked Bacon, Lemon Zest, Fresh Thyme. A small was 4 good sized pieces. Perfect for 2 people. It was DELICIOUS. The area inside is cute to sit and eat. There were probably 20ish seats inside. Small place but clean and well decorated. I'll be visiting here every time I go to Toronto!

Yelp
Just an update, still like the "No Name" pizza with an extra side of Hot Honey the most. I did also try the Get Daddy this time too but the sauce topping wasn't for me. I feel like maybe the Basil aioli and herbs were a bit overpowering. GAT DADDY Cheese Blend, House-Made Fennel Sausage, Mama Lil's Peppers, Red Onions, Tomato Sauce, Basil Aioli, Fresh Herbs

Alaleh P.

Yelp
There is plenty of Green P parking spots available on the Queen Street, in front of the store and slice to it. You can also find free parking on Jones Street and if you're lucky like me, you can find one closest to the res, lol. I arrived at the restaurant right before noon and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff. They helped me find the pizza according to my taste and unique to their restaurant. I ordered a small Barese Pizza. It was nicely presented and included lamb & pork sausage, pepper, pecorino romano, kalamata olives and vodka cream tomato sauce. The dough crust was crunchy and tasted really good. The combination of the ingredients has created a wonder and creamy taste.

Yelp
Was on my to try list and finally got to stop by. I got the motor city pizza and it did not disappoint at all. The ingredients were fresh and cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed and will most definitely be back. Price wise, you get what you pay for, so more on the pricey side.

Yelp
The best pizza in Toronto!!! Correction. The Truff-Guy pizza is the best pizza I've ever had. Truffle aioli with cheese, mushroom, and bacon... such a tasty combination and I'm almost salivating and thinking of the next time to visit. Call ahead to order as it takes them about 30 minutes to prepare. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Been here couple times for takeout. Their pizza are amazing and taste great. Of course it's Detroit style, don't expect thin crust. Check out their day off to avoid disappointment. When you are craving satisfying food, this is what you should get! Let's try it!

Yelp
I am an absolute sucker for Detroit style pizza. But Detroit style in Canada?! Seems like a far fetched idea....or is it? Here's a fun fact: the drive from Detroit to Windsor Canada is actually a mere 2 miles, with Toronto being a 200 mile drive. Descendent hails as Toronto's first Detroit style pizza restaurant. Although the base on which it's built on is familiar, this is nothing like your typical Detroit red top. Descendant is Detroit on steroids....an explosion of toppings. Pineapple, jerk chicken, roti, and mango chutney are just a few of the featured toppings on various pies. I go for the Truff-ghi and was honestly shocked to see how festive the pizza looked: caramelized onions, cremini mushrooms, bacon, and a beyond generous drizzle of truffle aioli. The crust itself has the crispy Detroit edges that make this style so distinctive, while still maintaining a delicious deep chewy dough. Although the aioli is a lot more mayonnaisee than I'm used to(maybe this is a Canadian thing?) it's still an absolutely delicious pie overall. The satisfaction of a Detroit style crust cannot be overstated. It's always great to see Detroit style, which has easily become one of my favorites, recognized for how good it really is. If you call yourself a pizza lover and have not tried a Detroit style pie, you really have not lived. And to be frank, your pizza license should be subject to revocation! People of Toronto, descend here if you can! See what I did there?!

Eros M.

Yelp
I love an app or dessert but the pizza was delicious and filling. Service was personable and the aesthetic was artsy meets grunge.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
Great place for a different kind of pizza. The crust is all caramelized so every bite is delicious. If you don't want any leftovers you can probably share a small between two people. I got the electric avenue and truff guy. Both super delicious and my favourites on the menu. Keep in mind they are a bit greasy so you'll need napkins. This was my first time dining in and I wouldn't recommend it unless you like cramped dining experience. It does taste much better dining in vs take out though (or try eating it on the curb lol). Also a warning that it takes AT LEAST 30 minutes to make your pizza (many signs inside the restaurant too) Overall I would recommend this place for different kind of pizza!

Yelp
Really great Detroit style pizza place. I had not tried a Detroit Style pizza before so this was new to me. They have some great options to choose from, I went with Electric Avenue which has jerk chicken on it. The hot sauce that comes with it really quote good and works really with the pizza flavours. Split a small size pizza with one other and we both were satisfied with the amount of food. Really cool vibe inside if you are looking to sit and eat.

Yelp
Definitely a unique pizza experience (for the good) that I would recommend anyone to try. Its deep dish but not Chicago (wet) style. The crust is thick, but crispy on the outer & moist in the inner. They offer a most eclectic combo of ingredients for each pizza, which you really won't see anywhere else. A definite treat if you're tired of the pizza combos & feel like something unique. Even when aware of the ingredients, it may be difficult to predict the taste. We had the 'Our Canadian' & their only vegetarian pizza 'Jaffna' (without chilis - thank you). The 'Our Canadian' went first - definitely a delicious combo. The 'Jaffna' was good tho the touch of sweetness took a little getting used to. LOVED the base / crust, which is saying something considering I usually only like a thin minimal crust / base. Will be back! *Very limited seating - plan for just take out dining* (Find me on Instagram @aida.loves )

Yelp
Went recently and tried Detroit style pizza for the first time. Did not disappoint. Service was amazing and friendly and ambiance is comfortable although it could be cramped if it was full. No wait times and pizza is great. Although I have no prior history to great Detroit style pizza, it is safe to say that descendants being my first intro and taste into Detroit style pizza has set the bar high in Toronto. Pizza dough was soft and crunchy at the same time, the cheese was tasty and great and the pepperoni and bacon was flavourful. The Truff guy was my preference over the no name pizza. Cant go wrong with mushrooms. Would come here again and hope to come again soon.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
Some of the best Detroit pizza in the city. My partner and I ordered the Tuff Guy and the No Name. I loved both of them, but the Tuff Guy was my fave. I can't take too much spice, so we took the chili's off of the No Name. It had a nice kick, but not too much. My partner liked that one better. We got some garlic parm aoili for dipping, which was delicious. I particularly liked it balanced with the spicier pizza. I loved the pop bottles they had. I had a cherry cola. We had a piece of each and took the rest home. The pizza was filling and incredibly flavourful. Fantastic service.

Sally L.

Yelp
Came here because I was in the area. I heard a lot about this pizza shop and how good it was so I decide to stop by after going to the beach with my boyfriend for some take out. I ordered prior via ritual which was the truff guy pizza and the barese pizza. Both pizzas were good, but I preferred the truff guy. It has more flavour and the garlic sauce definitely made it tastier. I liked how efficient it was and the process of pick up was seamless. They even provided me with plates and napkins which was perfect because my boyfriend and I decided to stop by riverdale park and watch the sunset and eat before we headed uptown.

Hands down one of the best pizza I ever tasted in my life, it was pricey but wow, service was quick waited 20 mins exactly as what the cashier said, ambiance was small more of a pick up place, I got the electric avenue pizza which has jerk chicken, pineapple, curried lime aioli and a diego fuego hot sauce, the crust was amazing crispy and moist, the chicken was tender, but the wow is the curried lime aioli and Diego hot sauce, I could come back here but parking here is a pain, ambiance was small, I just went and and went out and ate in the car, I wanted to try this place for along time and it was worth it, small is four slices for over 30 bucks expensive but if it tastes good I don't care, crust was so different, now I'm a fan of Detroit pizza, they know what they're doing, this pizza is so unique put it in a nice box and gave us plates, great job

Yelp
This pizzeria specializes in Detroit-style pizza that is super thick and square shaped. The restaurant is quite small with a few tables and window seating. We went around lunch time and the place was pretty empty - more of a take-out spot. We ordered: Truff-Guy A large size of 8 pieces, this pizza was loaded with caramelized onions, mushrooms, bacon and truffle aioli. We mainly ordered this for the truffle but found it very mild to nonexistent. The pizza itself was large and super thick. We enjoyed the cheese and amount of toppings, but the pizza needed some extra flavour - honey, hot sauce and chilli - after a few bites. The large size was a lot for two people, super filling and we for sure had left overs. Overall, this spot was definitely something new to try for pizzas. We would come back to try some other flavours! @alot.eats

Yelp
I've never had the chart style pizza before, but the sentence was a great way to take the plunge. I tried their vegetarian Jaffna pizza and the Truff-Ghi pizza. I have a soft spot for all mushroom pizzas, so I found their version of funghi pizza absolutely delicious. The thick crust was not doughy or too hard, providing the perfect base to deliver the deep umami taste of mushrooms, caramelized onions, cheese, and truffle aioli. I particularly liked the caramelized crisp edge to each square. The Jeffna was good also, like eating Indian food in each bite. This one has a bit of kick, so be careful for those adverse to spicy foods.Because each square is so thick, I found myself quite full after having only two slices. One small pizza would be perfect to split between two people.

Yelp
Like many of the fellow members in the food community, I was very impressed with the quality and amazing service from my visit! These guys are busy (dine in or take out) for very good reason for their authentic Detroit style pizza! Starting with their freshly handmade dough, you can choose from a variety of styles to enjoy the crisp crust you can expect from Detroit style pizza. I went with the Truff-Guy Pizza and I went home a happy customer! The Roasted Garlic Cremini Mushrooms pair very well with the sharp truffle aioli with enough double smoked bacon to bring all the flavors together. The sprinkle of Grana Padano Cheese lifts each slice to new heights. I certainly can't wait for my next visit!

Yelp
So I had my first ever Yelp Elite event and I picked an awesome place to break the ice I went to Descendant Detroit Style Pizza in Toronto's event.....Pizza My Heart Very fitting that it started on National Pizza Day Descendant is located in Leslieville on Queen East near Jones It's a small little pizzeria We went on a weeknight as suggested by them While we waited for the pizza they were quite busy with takeout orders so you know this place is popular in the area Now to Detroit style pizza Move over Chicago If you want a proper fresh deep dish pizza that is not as heavy as a Chicago style ....then this is for you The wait for pizza is minimum 30 minutes but it is worth the wait Pizza came hot and fresh My wife had the cheese pizza I had the Gat Daddy pizza Both were amazing!!!! I lovvvvvvved the crust on the edges of the pizza The sauce tasted super fresh Little curls of pecorino Romano cheese on top make the presentation tip top Somebody posted on here that they couldn't finish a small..... They were not lying I would definitely recommend to check this place out when down in Leslieville and would definitely hit them up again

Yelp
Back in the day when I would go to NYC twice a year just to eat pizza I would long for that desired mouthfeel, the fresh tomato sauce and the char on the bottom of the pizza. And that brings me to Detroit... style?? Although better than the deep dish in the CHI (lou malnatis. UNO) we have a contender for the best pizza in Toronto. A 30-60 minute wait for four/eight slices (S/L) will have you coming back for more. Having tried the pepperoni and no name, the burnt thick crust edges, crisping hard complimented by the fresh tangy tomato sauce and whatever toppings you may have on your pie leave you coming back for more. There's something about these thick slices that make me want to try every single one of these (maybe not the Canadian and veggie option). 5/5

Yelp
Many things to like about here. Friendly staff. Small venue but enough space between tables. Great location. Pizza itself was fresh and not overly oily. Pizza base was soft and airy with a good crusty exterior. The amount of toppings was perfect and well balanced in every bite. Truff Guy was a solid 4.5/5. Good amount of mushroom flavour and the savoury from the sauce, cheese and bacon was just enough. Can use a tiny bit more caramelized onions but that's just because it's my fav! Highly recommend this though. Also a small is good to share between 2 people as a big snack. Probably can finish one myself but it does get filling! Would love to try the other flavpurs soon!

Yelp
Came here for a yelp event cause i don't eat pizza, but was super curious. I can't eat cheese due to lactose issues. :( This was the one time in 6 years I have had pizza and had to take a lactose pill. I ordered the Electric Avenue because of the spice factor. They provide you with a specialty spice sauce to dip your pizza in. It take a while for the pizza to be made, about 30minutes so it is best to order ahead. Overall it was a pretty good pizza, different than the typical pizza I had as a kid.

Yelp
Just had the most amazing experience at Descendant Detroit Style Pizza on Queen St E in Leslieville. We ordered two delicious pizzas - Truff-Guy and Gatt-Daddy. Both were so scrumptious that we were completely filled up and satisfied our pizza craving. The gentleman working front of house was super nice and made our experience even better. The Truff-Guy had a cheese blend, slow-roasted garlic cremini mushrooms, caramelized onions, double-smoked bacon, white truffle sauce, fresh thyme and grana padano, while the Gatt-Daddy had house-made fennel sausage, Mama Lil's peppers, red onion, sauce, basil aioli, fresh parsley and basil. If you're a pizza lover like me, be sure to check out Descendant Detroit Style Pizza - you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Descendant Detroit Style Pizza in Leslieville will make all your pizza dreams come true--whether you're in lockdown or not. The Barese, for example, is for cheese lovers as it's stuffed into the crust. The pie is generously topped with sausage, pickled peppers and balsamic-brined olives and a creamy vodka tomato sauce. There's definitely something for every pie lover out there!

Yelp
Looking forward to my next visit already! Went here yesterday and got the same pizza I did during the Yelp Elite event- Electric avenue. Obviously the perk of not paying then, wasn't noticed until my bill came out to about $30 for an 8 by 10 pizza. Pretty expensive I thought. Since I like this pizza place, I dont mind forking out the money, at least its not an everyday thing. The staff were nice. I was asked how everything was, with my mouth full, so I couldn't really talk, just motioned by nodding my head. Going on the weekend is something I will reconsider for next time. The place filled out fairly quickly. It doesn't take long, with a super small dinning area. Yet, with still some seats available the noise level got too much for me. I felt it necessary to put in my earplugs. Hard rock playing.. a plus.... Definitely worth going!

Yelp
Genuinely some of the best pizza in the city. Their tomato sauce is so unique and delicious. I love their pepperoni pizza, and order frequently. I often show people who don't live in the East End this spot.

Yelp
The pie style pizza here is some of the best pizza I've ever had. We tried the ""no name" pizza ($21 for small) and it was spectacular. The first time I've thought crust was DELICIOUS and the sauce was fresh along with a great set of toppings. Price is also really good for what you're getting. Staff was also friendly with good service.

Yelp
Sooo good! This is a place you don't come for just a pepperoni pizza because you'd be selling yourself short. Although I'm sure pepperoni is probably very good. I ordered the Electric Avenue and it came with a sauce similar to a salsa with Indian spice. It had a kick to it. I ordered garlic parm dipping sauce but it really didn't need it. It came with a curry lime aioli drizzled on top. I might say this aioli is one of the best I've had. I'd give this 5 star but the price is just outrageous. A small pizza which is 4 slices came out to $27 including tax. Unless you can afford this regularly, this is probably a place you come to occasionally. Also the interior is quite small and feels crammed when busy. There's 4 tables of 2 and a bar table with about 5-6 stools. Luckily there's a park with picnic tables across the street.

Yelp
Great pizza and assorted combinations. The sauces are worth a try. Enjoyed the hot honey. On the expensive side‼

Yelp
The pizza wasn't greasy and oily, it was very light and not doughy. It was full of flavour. For the "No Name" I only wish the ricotta want in one big glob, but the tomato sauce was rich and delicious. The electric avenue pizza was a BIG surprise. It was nice and refreshing. The pineapple was great and I wish they had more spice for the jerk chicken. I would definitely be back.

Yelp
Terrific Detroit style pie, friendly staff. Right off of Queen St East and Jones. Great sauce extremely light crust!
