The Best Vegetarian Restaurants in New York City

"It can be extraordinarily hard to find options for late-night drunchies that are vegan or vegetarian. Behold Desi Stop: At this 24-hour deli, the samosa burger will only run you $5 and it’s made with actual vegetables: quinoa, chickpeas, and walnuts. It’s a worthy on-the-go snack no matter the time of day." - Eater Staff

The Best Late-Night Food in New York City

"Hours: 24/7 When it comes to late-night food, it can be hard to find vegetarian-friendly options. Not so, at Desi Stop, a small snack shop serving one of Manhattan’s better veggie burgers, with a handmade patty." - Luke Fortney, Robert Sietsema

Desi Stop and Deli Serves a $5 Veggie Burger Served 24 Hours a Day - Eater NY

"Desi Stop and Deli is a small vegetarian snack shop located at 75 Second Avenue, between East Fourth and Fifth streets. It caters mainly to taxi drivers and college students with affordable and diverse food options. Among its offerings is the 'samosa burger', a vegetarian burger made with a patty of potato and onion, lettuce, tomato, and cottage cheese, served on a sesame seed bun with mayonnaise and hot sauce. The shop also offers items like roti, curries, grilled paneer sandwiches, stuffed paratha, and vegetarian hot dogs." - Luke Fortney

Desi Stop and Deli is a fantastic spot for affordable and delicious Indian and Punjabi food. The homemade taste really stands out, especially with their soft, fresh rotis that feel like they’re straight from a home kitchen. Their platters, priced around $13, are the best deal, including 2 vegetarian curries, 2 rotis, and rice—a perfect, satisfying meal. Occasionally, they also offer free sweet dishes like Rasmalai or Kheer, depending on the size of your order, which is a delightful touch. Every dish is flavorful, though the salt can be a little less sometimes, but it’s easy to adjust. The staff is warm, welcoming, and respectful, making the experience even better. Highly recommend this place for anyone craving authentic, homemade Indian food!

Stumbled upon this small Punjabi deli in the heart of the city around midnight, and what an absolute treasure it turned out to be! The food was nothing short of soul-satisfying. The malai kofta was rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced — melt-in-your-mouth good. The palak paneer was fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor, with that perfect balance of garlic and spice. And the roti? Soft, warm, and just the right kind of chewy to scoop up every last bite. Beyond the food, the hospitality was truly heartwarming. Despite the late hour, the staff greeted us with smiles and genuine warmth, making us feel like guests in their own home rather than just customers. For a small deli, this place delivers big on flavor, comfort, and kindness. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic Indian comfort food — especially when the city sleeps.

Google
I was surprised how good this place is. Randomly stopped by to have a small snack and ended up having a bunch of things. Got a bread pakora which they had made freshly, the taste was very close to home. Also got a mixed paratha, it was very simple, not too buttery, and tasted home made. The prices are very cheap too. Would surely stop next time again.

Google
The food was absolutely perfect! In a city where finding Indian food after 12 AM is nearly impossible, these guys are doing an incredible job. They maintain 100% quality and taste without any compromise on freshness. Truly appreciate the effort—thank you for the amazing food.

Before with the old management and how the store looked I didn’t have any hopes that it would last longer than 3 months. New management came in and they turned it AROUND. The food is so good, and the owner is pure and down to Earth. Will be recommending this to many people. Wish them the best

Google
One of the best punjabi indian food place. Real authentic taste. We found it after a few days of our NY trip, and it made the rest of the vacation easy and the entire family loved the food. Very reasonable prices also.

Google
Food was so bad I can’t say enough I felt sick after eating this food and top of that serving was so damn slow they made us waited for 1 hours and 30 min I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anybody there wasn’t enough people they should limited their menu based on dining or breakfast. They cannot make everything good. It was bad experience overall.

Yelp
Do not be discouraged by the lack of good photos of the food... We ate the food too quickly to take photos... This spot is the best for fresh fast vegetarian Indian food. The service is friendly and family oriented and nothing beats the five dollars Samosa burger. You can get yummy ginger lentil daal, okra dish, chai, mango lassi and burger for under 20 bucks Total! Bring cash for a 4% discount. This is an authentically stoked review love this place must have in New York City

Yelp
Full disclosure: this was late night DoorDash, and I don't think my order was even totally correct. I ordered the Maggi noodles, which is the Indian version of ramen. Perfect food for a late night after bar hopping. Flavorful and not hard on the stomach. I also ordered the samosa, which was hot and crisp. I also ordered the heavier mixed pakora, which is fried/battered mixed veggies. Not greasy, we'll seasoned, and the batter was perfect. The last item is where things went wrong. I ordered aloo matar, which is a veggie dish with green peas and potatoes. What I got was good, but just not what I ordered. My best guess of what I DID get was some type of roti or chapati and veggies. And it was good too! So I'm not complaining. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with this place or any of their dishes. Everything is super affordable and filling. Portion sizes are large! They have a ton of veggie dishes, breads, paneer, curries, and more. Punjabi Grocery is probably going to always be one of my favorites, but this place definitely deserves a place in your Indian/Punjabi/Pakistani food rotation.

Yelp
This is a decent choice for late night food. It's very convenient that this place stays open late. The food is nothing too remarkable - I had a combo with dal makhani and paneer, which was just ok. Prices were reasonable.

Yelp
Literally the BEST vegan Indian food in NY. Can't wait to come back. Food and service was amazing!!!

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Everything we had was delicious. Can't wait to come back and try everything else on the menu. My favorite is the mango lassi and the bahtoora Channa. Cozy atmosphere with bar style seating along the wall. There is a area with some Indian grocery items and snacks.

Yelp
Desi Stop Deli is nearby and open 24 hours making it a convenient stop to quell my Indian food cravings! This is a quick-service, no frills shop with authentic, home style vegetarian Indian food and some non-perishable groceries also available. I got the combo platter which was a great deal! For $13 you can pick 2 vegetables or curries along with rice, 2 rotis, and pickled onions. The food was not too spicy or creamy too!

Yelp
Just finished one of their samosa burgers and omg what a deal! $5?!? And I am positively stuffed. Can not wait to come back for this delicious meal. If you're in the east village and hungry this place is it!!!! Kind sweet staff, great flavors!

Yelp
24-hour version of Punjabi Deli... except this place might offer even more options. BEST PANEER PARATHA. I've had a lot of frozen ones but this was next level. Everything is made to order. They literally assemble the samosa together and fry it to order. It takes longer than other places but totally worth it. They have a simple aloo sandwich on hot dog buns for $2-3 for quick easy snack if you're on the go before a NY Comedy club show. Nice option when you want something more than dollar pizza.

Yelp
Phenomenal across the board, veggie burger and mango lassi are to die for. The Paneer Bhurji is like the ultimate breakfast scramble. Prices are ridiculously reasonable. Staff are super friendly and obviously take pride in their food. What an amazing late night stop, we're going to stop by so many more times!

Yelp
Food was great in this 24 hour deli. I had the veggie burger which is $4.99 and a mango lassi. The burger is a samosa with lettuce, tomator, firm cottage cheese and some spicy sauce. Very tasty and filling. The lassi is kind of overpriced considering its tiny size, but really delicious. It's not fine dining but it's the taste and quality that counts. I'll be back.

Yelp
Fantastic service no tip required and most authentic food. Students get discount! Kaala Chana the best, their platters are huge for only $11.99

Yelp
I stopped here for dinner on a whim and I'm so glad I did! I grabbed the samosa burger, an absolute steal at $5, and it was fantastic. You'll leave feeling happy and full. Once I was done, I got up to clean my tray and the person working came over with a free cup of rice pudding. It was such a nice, pleasant surprise, really lovely and tasty! I now know my go-to spot for a quick bite that's affordable and tasty. Can't beat it.

Yelp
The best food made by the best people. All of their dishes and sides are unbelievably good-- and especially taste homemade. Try the parantha with raita, the rajmah and definitely the paneer bhurji. Down it all stuff with the mango lassi and finish with a strong chai and parle g biscuits. 10/10 I literally eat here every day

Aaron B.

Yelp
Whoever came up with the paneer and vegetables grilled cheese style sandwich is a genius. This food is so good, and the selection of drinks and Indian chips was great fun. Plus it's opened late.

Yelp
So happy they're open. 24-7 and delicious and affordable dishes. Freshly made chole, parathas, etc. Menu is expanding. Great for tea and dessert as well.

Yelp
A new and welcome gem in the neighborhood. The owners / staff are incredibly kind and the food was truly delicious -- fresh and flavorful. I had the aloo ghobi. And I'm floored by how reasonable the pricing was. They gave me little sweets that I found later in my to go bag which was so thoughtful and kind. I highly recommend this place and hope they stay -- give them a try!

Maxwell P.

Yelp
Open late night! Extremely kind staff! Was waiting for food and they offered me some sweets to taste, which were delicious. Had a Chickpea curry, soooo good! Everything is made to order, they are a super amazing small business. 11/10 would recommend!

Sam S.

Yelp
Good food. Who opens 24hrs anyway? Luv this place for a midnight snack or early bird.
