I had a fantastic evening at Dessous in Melbourne CBD, what an outstanding steak night! We visited on a Wednesday for their standout Steak Night special, and the offering did not disappoint: a dry-aged hanger steak, Thai herb salad and sticky rice. We also enjoyed the Potato Rosti with Larb­Spiced Tuna Tartare, this was very small but tasted great. The drink menu had a great range of cocktails, The setting is moody, stylish and intimate basement on Flinders Lane, ideal for a date or a special midweek dinner. Despite it being a popular night, the service was smooth and attentive everything felt well looked after without being rushed. the steak night deal was outstanding quality for the price. the did not come with chips but we ordered separately The blend of Thai accented cuisine with fine dining steak gave it a unique edge, definitely not your average steak night.

We went for the steak night, having been a few times before. Definitely has gone down hill. Okay serves, confused and unmotivated service, and did not acknowledge our ‘special occasion’. Food is still good, however when the restaurant misses the mark otherwise, in a city full of great places, Dessous can be skipped over.

It was alright! Totally enjoyed the moscato..some chilled litchy rose vibes typa drink.Also they allowed me to play a song on the system. Which was nice Also that barramudi has literal bones.not the best

We recently hosted our wedding dinner at Dessous after our city elopement at the Old Treasury Building and it was absolutely amazing. The planning process was SO easy with Wenona and Lal, both women extremely helpful, kind, attentive and accommodating. We had full trust in everyone involved in the lead up, and Rob (Dessous venue manager) and his staff were all absolutely amazing and took such incredible care of us on the day. The styling for the space was immaculate, the food completely divine (our guests raved about it), and they were super helpful at accommodating to dietary requirements. We honestly could not have picked a better venue and wish we could do it all over again! Thank you everyone <3

Our waiter Buster was just AMAZING. Knowledge, polite, funny and made us all feel so comfortable. The candles on our deserts for our birthdays was a beautiful touch. The food is flawless ! Usually there’s the one thing you didn’t enjoy when eating out , but the menu is so interesting and so well developed and cooked that there’s nothing I’d change! We love the atmosphere of Dessous and will return again and again! Thanks so much 🫶🏼

I'd give it 3.5 stars but closer to 3 than 4. The food's tasty and it has a nice vibe, but the service left a lot to be desired. First of all, the website does mention steak night bookings are only for 90 minutes, which I respect and I was happy to leave on time if there's another party waiting for the table or if it's really busy. What I don't appreciate, however, is the way they went about it. Their staff kept telling us throughout the whole dinner that they needed to clear up the table by 8pm. They mentioned it at least 4 times, even to a point where they tried to take away the plates while we're still not finished eating. This was when a staff came over to inform us we only had 5 minutes left, and another staff came about 1-2 minutes after to repeat the same thing as if we're in Masterchef's pressure test. To their credit, the first staff provided another table for us near the bar so we could still stay after we moved from our table, and that's why service's 2 instead of 1 star. I always try my best to be polite to restaurant staff because I understand it's a challenging industry, especially in regards to dealing with patrons, but I believe respect should go both ways. I don't expect to be treated like a king, but I don't expect to be treated like a beggar either. Maybe it happened to be a bad day for the staff or there were other reasons, but I'm sure there are better and less pushy ways to let patrons know about it. It's such a shame because the food's delicious and I like the ambiance, but I don't think I'll be back. I hope other people will have better experience than me. Edit: Removed the part about the table being empty as the reply explained the other booking didn't arrive on time.

My absolute favourite in the CBD! A friend introduced me a few years ago & I’ve loved it ever since, everything the organisation stands for, & food service, etc outstanding. I took my family for the first time on Christmas Eve & we were a “high needs” table in terms of dietaries, the staff were incredible! patient, kind & accommodated all of our needs! Can’t recommend more highly! The family loved it 😋♥️🤶
